A wand is a tool used by wizards and witches to channel magical powers. Most spells are done with the aid of wands. It is possible to do magic without a wand, but is very difficult and requires much concentration and skill.
Wandlore is, according to Mr. Ollivander, "a complex and mysterious branch of magic". Their are only two mentioned wandmakers in the books and three in the films. Mr. Ollivander is the first mentioned and seen, appearing in the fifth chapter of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and in Diagon Alley in the film (same place as in the book). The next is Mr. Gregorovitch, who is first mentioned in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire during the Wand-weighing Ceremony, however is noy seen until the Deathly Hallows, when Voldemort questions and kills him. The last wandmaker, only mentioned in the movie, is Jimmy Kiddell, whose name is seen on a sign reading "Jimmy Kiddell's Wonderful Wands."
Their is an Ollivander's Wand Shop located in Hogsmeade run by an asocciate of Ollivanders.
