Appearances
First book
Harry first meets Mr Ollivander in his shop in Diagon Alley, where Harry goes to purchase a wand. Mr Ollivander is quite pleased that Harry is a tricky customer and has Harry try many different wands until he finds the perfect match. Mr Ollivander tells him that his wand is the brother of the wand that gave him his scar. Mr Ollivander tells Harry that, "we must expect great things from you, Mr Potter.... After all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great thing -- terrible, yes, but great." Harry is troubled by these words and is unsure if he likes Mr Ollivander.[1]
Fourth book
Mr Ollivander checks the wands of the four Triwizard champions to ensure that they are in good working condition before the tournament. Mr Ollivander examines Fleur Delacour's wand first and notes that the core is from a veela. He makes a point of saying he would never use veela hair in his own wands because it makes for rather temperamental wands. Mr Ollivander then makes a bunch of flowers appear from the tip of Fleur's wand. Second, he examines Cedric Diggory's wand, which is one he himself made. He sends a stream of silver smoke rings from Cedric's wand and declares it is in good working order. Next, Mr Ollivander examines Viktor Krum's wand, which was made by Gregorovitch . He then makes birds fly out of Krum's wand. Finally, Mr Ollivander examines Harry Potter's wand. He spends a longer time looking at Harry's wand than he did with the others, but eventually makes a fountain of wine shoot out of it and declares it to be in perfect condition. [2]
Sixth book
Mr Ollivander is missing and his shop is abandoned. The Order is worried that the Death Eaters have taken him and are having him make new wands for them. Remus Lupin notes, "Ollivander was the best, and if the other side have got him it's not so good for us."[3]
Final book
Mr Ollivander is being held captive in the cellar of Malfoy Manor. When the trio is captured and brought to Malfoy Manor, Harry calls for help and Dobby appears and brings Luna Lovegood, Dean Thomas and Mr Ollivander to Bill and Fleur's home. At shell cottage Harry asks Mr Ollivander about wandlore and the Elder wand.
