House-elf

A House-elf is a creature that typically works as a servant, cooking and cleaning, for a wizarding family. House-elves are generally inherited with a wizard's house. House-elves have powerful magic of their own, but are usually not allowed to use it unless given their master's permission. However, some house-elves may use their magic independently, but are forced to punish themselves for this act.^[1] There are also not permitted to use wands.
