[edit] Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Hogwarts is a school of magic, founded in Scotland by Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff and Salazar Slytherin.

[edit] Location

Hogwarts is located in Scotland, near the village of Hogsmeade.

[edit] First Year Arrival

First Year's arrive on the Hogwarts Express with the rest of the student body. However, upon arriving in Hogsmeade the two groups diverge. Years Two through Seven take the carriages to the castle while the First Years go with Rubeus Hagrid to the Black Lake. There the students are seated in self propelling boats which take them across the lake to Hogwarts. Upon arriving at Hogwarts the students are taken to the Great Hall where the rest of the student body are seated awaiting their arrival. They enter and the Sorting Ceremony begins whereby the students are sorted into one of the four Houses of Hogwarts: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. The Sorting Ceremony is conducted by the Sorting Hat which sings a celebratory or warning song before being placed upon the head of each individual First Year in turn. The Hat's magical powers grant it the ability to see into the mind of the students and based on character traits, personality and the individual wish of the student assigns the pupil a House. From there the pupil sits at the appropriate House table and when all the students have been sorted the Headmaster of Headmistress will welcome them all and issue the usual warnings about not entering the Forbidden Forest or breaking the rules. The Feast begins and the Hogwarts academic year begins proper.

[edit] Hogwarts Houses

[edit] Gryffindor

Gryffindor house values bravery and loyalty, and was founded by Godric Gryffindor, one of the four Hogwarts founders. The house ghost is Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, generally known (to his displeasure) as Nearly-Headless Nick. It's house colours are red and gold and its mascot is a lion. The common room can be found behind the portrait of The Fat Lady and can only be accessed by giving her the correct password. The password changes regularly and is sometimes reflective of current holidays or circumstances. The Head of House is the Transfiguration professor, Minerva McGonagall.

It's house colours are green and silver and its mascot is a lion. The common room can be found behind a bare, damp stone wall down near the dungeons which opens when you give the password. The password changes regularly and seems to reflect their values. The one time we hear the password it is Pure Blood. [edit] The Room of Requirement

Also known as the Come and Go Room, the Room of Requirement is a hidden chamber at Hogwarts. It is always equipped for the seeker's needs, and only appears (at least to deliberate seekers) when walking past it three times, concentrating on the needs of the seeker. When apparent, the door to the Room of Requirement sits in a stretch of otherwise blank wall opposite a tapestry depicting Barnabas the Barmy's attempt to train trolls for the ballet.

[edit] The Hogwarts Express

The Hogwarts Express is the scarlet steam engine that takes the students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to Hogsmeade Station from King's Cross Station.

It can be found on platform nine and three quarters at King's Cross Station. The Express leaves pricisely at 11:00 AM on the first of September. It takes most of the day to reach Scotland, passing through towns/villages, hills, forests, fields, and over viaducts and bridges. The Hogwarts Express employs a "smiling, dimpled woman" who pushes a trolly of sweets including: Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, Drooble's Best Blowing Gum, Chocolate Frogs, Pumpkin Pasties, Cauldron Cakes, Licorice Wands and more.
