Hogsmeade is an entirely wizarding village located near Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Students in their third year or higher at Hogwarts are allowed to visit Hogsmeade on weekends if they have a signed permission form.[1]

Places in Hogsmeade include Honeydukes, Zonko's Joke Shop, the Shrieking Shack, Dervish and Banges, the Three Broomsticks, a post office[2], the Hog's Head, and Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop.

Albus Dumbledore interviews Sybill Trelawney at the Hog's Head, where she makes a prophecy regarding the one who has the power to vanquish the Dark Lord. This prophecy is partially overheard by Severus Snape.

Harry Potter visits the village for the first time after Fred and George give him the Marauder's map. At the Three Broomsticks, Harry overhears Madam Rosmerta, Professor McGonagall, Hagrid, Flitwick, and Cornelius Fudge discussing Sirius Black. Harry learns that Sirius Black was his dad's best friend and his godfather, but he is believed to have been the Potter's secret keeper and betrayed their whereabouts to Lord Voldemort.[3]

Harry, Hermione and Ron aparate into Hogsmeade and take refuge in the Hog's Head. There they use a secret passage to enter the room of requirement in Hogwarts.
