Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a film directed by David Yates and based on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J. K. Rowling. Steve Kloves wrote the screenplay. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released in the US and worldwide on July 15th, 2009 in regular cinemas and IMAX 3D formats. Its release was originally planned to be on November 21st, 2008, but Warner Bros. announced just three months before the scheduled date the movie was going to be released eight months later than originally planned.

Christian Coulson, who portrayed the character in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, expressed interest in returning, but David Heyman said Coulson was too old. Jamie Campbell Bower reportedly wished to be cast in the role, but he was eventually cast as the young Gellert Grindelwald in the series finale.
