One of the four Hogwarts Houses, named after Godric Gryffindor. Gryffindor house values bravery and loyalty. The house ghost is Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, generally known (to his displeasure) as Nearly-Headless Nick. Its house colours are red and gold and its mascot is a lion. The Head of House is the Transfiguration professor, Minerva McGonagall. The Quidditch team is the Gryffindor Quidditch Team.

The common room can be found behind the portrait of The Fat Lady and can only be accessed by giving her the correct password. The password changes regularly and is sometimes reflective of current holidays or circumstances. The common room is in a tall tower, and is very large. It has two staircases that lead to the girls' and boys' dormitories. It also has a fireplace and comfy chairs and many gryffindors use it as a place to relax or study.
