Charms is a subject taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Its purpose is to teach students how to cast spells with their wands in general. For example spells that might alter the appearance of an object or make it move in an unusual way, such as changing its colour or making it levitate. Spells that really change the nature of an object, such as turning a desk into a pig, would be taught in Transfiguration.
