Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the seventh and final novel in the Harry Potter series written by J. K. Rowling. It was released on 21 July 2007, ending the series that began with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (1997), but also continues the events began in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
The book was published by Bloomsbury Publishing in the United Kingdom, Scholastic in the United States and by Raincoast Books in Canada. Released globally in ninety-three countries, Deathly Hallows broke sales records as the fastest-selling book ever. It sold 15 million copies in the first twenty-four hours following its release[1], including more than 11 million in the U.S. and U.K. alone. The previous record, had been set by its predecessor, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

The start of the book contained two epigraphs, a first for any Harry Potter book. The first is a passage from the play The Libation-Bearers by the Greek playwright Aeschylus. The second is a passage from More Fruits of Solitude by the Quaker leader William Penn.

All books in the Harry Potter series contain dedications, this book contained a dedication in the shape of a Harry Potter's scar, this read: "The dedication of this book is split seven ways: to Neil Murray, to Murray-Rowling family, to Murray-Rowling family, to Murray-Rowling family, to Diane Rowling, to Anne Rowling, and to you, if you have stuck with Harry until the very end."

The book begins at the Malfoy Manor where Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters are holding a meeting, in which, they discuss the Skirmish above Little Whinging and also murder Hogwarts Muggle Studies professor, Charity Burbage.
