My DS is an Optician. As an eye care professional he may err on the side of caution, but that’s better than not caring at all. ;)

We in the US seem to overdo the “antibacterial” soaps, cleansers and wipes. the result is that the resistant strains get a better foothold and sometimes run rampant.

If you kill all of the bacteria, including the helpful ones, but not the resistant ones, you give the resistant bacteria a much better chance of growing and causing problems. The regular bacteria on your skin tends to crowd out and suppress the resistant strains, which grow slower.

When the faster growing strains are gone, the slow growing ones prosper. And cause a whole lot more damage than the faster growing ones. So go easy on the “antibacterial” stuff.

I have only one bottle of antibacterial liquid hand soap in the house and it is only used after handling raw meats. I do have the wipes to use on the kitchen and bathroom counters, but I do not use them for regular spills and splatters, just after raw meats and during illnesses. ;)

Yes, Mother recovered, but it was a very inconvenient year for her, Dad and my sister and her family. My sister missed a lot of work that year due to my mother’s lack of health. ;)

Deanie, I’d heard before that you should go easy on the antibacterial stuff, but the explanation I’d been given was that you could build up a tolerance to it and then it wouldn’t be as effective. Your explanation makes much more sense! Thanks!

I got my information way back in 1997(?) from my Discover magazine way before the antibacterial stuff was as common as it is now. They tend to report things that later become more or less mainstream science. And they put it in easy to read language with clear pictures and illustrations.

You can get as many bacteria off your hands in cold water without soap, if you scrub vigorously for 30 seconds, as wih the antibacterial soaps. And the vigorous scrubbing removes the resistant strains, too.

So warm water and regular soap just with less scrubbing does not remove as many of the bacteria. Regular soap does however help get rid of dirt that may not come off in cold water or without soap.

Soap for dirt, scrub for bacteria! ;)

Huff, here conjuncivitis is just treated as a mild irritant. I don’t think we’d even go to the doctor unless it was really bad.

Deanie, that info is interesting. Mostly common sense, but it’s easy to go over the top, and think you can avoid all bacteria. Another danger is people believe anti – bac stuff is magic, and actually take less care with hygiene!

Why do people keep voting for May when they have already announced that the opening for HP Theme Park will be 18 JUNE 2010??? Yesterday we had 70 degrees here today they said it is going to drop down to 40 degrees and a possibility of snow flakes mixed with MORE RAIN!!!!! this is when I wish I LIVE IN THE BAHAMMA’S!!! FOR REAL!!! I AM WISHING EVERYBODY TO HAVE A SPECTACULAR WEEKEND!!!!! lol

We’ve got rain here too, which is making it very difficult to get up and get motivated. But, I have to; there’s lots to do today. Writing a paper this morning, babysitting this afternoon, and going to a dinner event at school this evening – they’ll be announcing my scholarship there. :)

I have a very busy day ahead; there’s so much due tomorrow. Actually, looking at my calendar, it appears that pretty much the whole next month is going to be hectic. I guess this is why this semester seemed easier at first – everything’s been crammed into the last part! Still, it’s gone by very quickly. My last major project is due exactly one month from today, and then I’ll be back to play for the summer! ;)

Goodness, the last time I was here it was page 11 for days. Now I understand why there were two more pages. It seems l learned more here than the other place. Don’t know why. Maybe because I can see the post all at once. I just came by to see if Jen had posted anything and found all of you.

Won So glad you are recovering so quickly.

Next week on the Apprentince, hey are going to be doing sonething Harry Potter. It should be interesting. Lol

Deanie, we’re having a few days away in Somerset in two weeks time. I’m looking forward to a little holiday. Are you going away, or resting at home?

I have posted a picture elsewhere of my daughter after her ballet performance.

We are staying home and taking care of a few things. The dog is due for his annual check up and he needs his teeth cleaned. We need to go by the Social Security office to check on a few things fo my DS. We will probably start looking in earnest for my next car. And we want to take a couple of day-trips to nearby attractions.

It will be a busy week. ;)

You’re right, Deanie, no real cleaning after the past Thursday, just a touch up here and there. Since kiddies are on Spring Break, I am taking it easy and doing some very welcome lying in. Lots of leftovers help feed them too. LOL

It’s fine I guess if I only have a less hard time adjusting to the darker screen which always looks fuzzy whenever I wear those 3D glasses.

Thank goodness!!! tomorrow 68 degrees and the Sun will be shinning!!! For those who do not know, I have a Settlement date on my house tomorrow at 11am, It is likely that I will not be able to post here gain until 5 April, by then I also hope to have been hooked up finally at home also!!!!!!! lol I hope everybody has a FANTASTIC DAY AND WEEKEND!!!! lol

The family reunion is on the north side of Atlanta this year. It saves us a bunch of travel time and leave time. We will stay in the hotel instead of trying to commute. That’s the end of June. ;)
