HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all who are celebrating it, whether you are a mother yourself or are celebrating with someone who is! :)

Okay, I just had to go look up “Mother’s Day” to see how to punctuate it. I had been taught that it was a day to celebrate mothers, plural, so should be ‘s apostrophe’…but I’ve been noticing that a lot of the mentions I’ve seen online and on greeting cards have ‘apostrophe s’. Apparently that is correct, according to the Chicago Manual of Style, because that is how it was spelled on the original proclamation marking the occassion. So, I’ve been spelling it wrong for many years. :S

I am going to try to catch up on emails this afternoon, then I am babysitting at 3. My sister’s having a crappy Mother’s Day this year. She finally went to court two weeks ago to get child support from my nephew’s father, which was good…but the judge ordered visitation to begin today – he said he didn’t care if it was Mother’s Day. :( Then, she’s got to work tonight…I’m thinking I’ll bring my nephew to Friendly’s (restaurant where she works) for supper to surprise her.

Afternoon all! I have been in the garden this morning while the sun was shining, cutting back a bamboo plant which is threatening the upward growth of a buddleia bush.

There seems to be a lull in the HP news at the moment so I am obsessing over New Moon. There is no shortage of websites or news, gossip, photos, or fan-made posters or videos. I can even have a daily picture of Taylor Lautner on my iGoogle page:)

Time to get back to CoS.

I am making a point of avoiding restaurants today. They will be so packed that the waitstaff will not be able to move. That is entirely too claustrophobic for me (or perhaps I am too claustophobia prone for that situation). ;)

I think we may have KFC if I can convince the DS to go get it. We have a general deal that one of us buys and the other one “flys”. ;)

I have at least 5 more loads to wash to make sure we both have clothes to wear to work this week. ;)

Jen I see that I make it plura but not with any apostrophe. Don’t think I’ll start changing it now regardless of which is suppose to be correct. Lol Jen that is strange about the judge. Mothers automatically get mothers day and the fathers get Fathers day. I know my daughter had to make special arrangements with her ex to trade days. They are going to a theme park and the special rate for tickets was for Fathers day. Since this would save them both having to make a long trip to exchange the girls two times, he agreed

Sirius Won is right. All the coverage for the Indy 500 that used to be on local TV is now all on Versus. For me this is the Outdoors Channel on cable. I looked it up since we couldn’t find anything again today on the regular channels. I should have looked it up earlier. Lol While I was at it, I looked up the schedule for the month of May. It seems that the Versus channel is even covering the parade. The parade was always covered locally before. Since Nascar is not on today, we are watching the Indy coverage. The only thing that’s going to be on local channels is the race itself. If you are in Indy local viewing area, you have to wait until the race is over and then they show it on tape. We get Lousiville channels too so always watch it live.

Some more bad news for you, The All Star Race is only going to be on the Speed Channel. I don’t know what is going to happen when they switch over to all digital. I may have to upgrade my cable package. I think they are changing coverage around to different packages so don’t know if we will lose the Speed Channel. That can’t happen. Lol

I’m fixing dinner just for us today. We caught some corn on the cob yesterday, so I’m fixing that along with red potatoes, green beans, peppers, etc in a casserole and hambugers. Lol This is our cook out meal but I’m not cooking it on the grill. Speaking of dinner, I need to get it started.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY I have already been to brunch with daughter #2 and the grandbabies. Now I am off to see Star Trek big sigh for Spock and have lunch with daughter #1. I have a great idea for the book that is just itching to be writen, but it will have to wait. See all of you later.

Jen, I’m sorry for your sister, that’s not nice. (Though at least your nephew still sees his Dad. So often contact is lost.) I think taking him for supper to your sisters work is a nice idea.

I’m sure you’ll all be relieved to know that I survived Hannah Montana. In fact, to the surprise of cynical old me, I actually quite enjoyed it!!! I’ve seen far worse. It was very sugary and sweet, but well acted, and quite well done. My daughter felt very grown up. When we came out she said that it was “a film for big girls.”

Talking of films, I found out yesterday that they are filming a version of an outstanding book called Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro. One of the stars is Kiera Knightly. (Elizabeth in the film version of P+P.) I really really hope it’s going to be well done, I can’t see how they would begin to adapt the book for the screen, but if it’s done well it could be very good indeed.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY ALL!!!

We had our celebration yesterday. Today my DS is going to work for the afternoon and I am taking my MIL home. She has a plate of left overs from yesterday and we will have leftovers tonight. I try to send her home with something when she has been here. It is no fun to arrive back in your own place after being away and have to figure out how to feed yourself. So, that way she has a little of the weekend to take with her. It eases her way back into regular life.

My mother actually did the heavy cooking for yesterday. I only made Mexican Cornbread and green beans. She made a pot roast and veggies, an eggpant casserole and dessert. I felt a little guilty having her do most of the cooking. I suppose I was so wiped out from last week and all the doctor’s visits and sick kid and broken refrigerator and night time breathing treatments that I didn’t have the energy to fight her. That is my excuse. It was nice to eat something that I didn’t cook.

I made breakfast this morning and then we played cards and ate some frozen chicken taquitos while we played and called it lunch.

I feel a sense of relief. School is all but over. We just have to make an appearance for the next nine days. No more homework. No more melting face for almost 3 months!!!!!

My daughter felt the Gifted screening test was a breeze. I hope it was. She said all the questions were just pages of pictures, about 4 to a page and she had to choose the one that didn’t belong with the others, that sort of thing. She felt it was beyond easy and the correct answers were obvious. As I said, I hope so. She said the test took about 2 hours. They came and took her to lunch with the principal part of the way through and then she had to come back after lunch and finish. She started the test with a group of less than 30 people and came back and finished alone. She said they told her I might be hearing from them to bring her back to the school during the summer for further evaluation.

I think we are just going to do KFC and board games for my birthday. Usually we go to Sam’s Town, one of the casinos, for dinner but we are scaling back this year. It is okay. Instead of loading up all the walkers and staggering into the casino we will just keep it simple at home and I still won’t have to cook, just clean my house up again which will do it some good.

We are lucky today. Our air conditioner is out and they won’t be coming to repair it until Tuesday but it is so cool I am wearing sweats. How lucky can you get in May to have to wear sweats when your air conditioner is out? It could just as easily have been sweltering. I am grateful.
