I am going to have to ask my son-in-law to bring one of my chain saws over and cut the limbs from the trees. They are still connected even though they are on the roof. He has them since I can’t use them myself. It quit raining long enough for me to go outside to get a good look at the roof. I moved my truck to the opposite side of my driveway. There are 6 inch ruts where the truck was sitting. All the gravel was washed out of these ruts. If it ever stops raining and dries up, I can shovel the gravel back in the ruts. This is the most damage that has been done by storms in a long time. The strong storms are suppose to come in a little over an hour. The news is saying it will be a bad one.

I have found myself sucked in again – I’m reading A Discovery of Witches on my Kindle Fire.

One of the true icons of American sport- Don Zimmer- has passed away at 83 years of age. I cannot
believe how sad this makes me feel.

Ironsos I am guessing that he would have been a childhood hero of yours. That’s never easy:(

Dr. Lew Absolutely! It is about time young children were steered away from the stereotyping that has gone on for far too long.

Graymayne: you are correct. A lot of the players and other baseball people interviewed about how they
felt at his passing prove that there IS crying in baseball.

I have had only two sports figures I could call hero/icon. One was Don Zimmer and the other
was Art Donovan. Watch this clip and you will understand why.

We’ve had some terrible storms this afternoon. We were away from home at our pottery painting place and after the storms were over we had to head home. Our main road home was blocked. Pine trees had snapped off and taken down the power line and poles across the street. So, we had to turn around and reroute ourselves to bypass the destruction.

DR. LEW, pretty cool, I’m certain the Lego people you had in mind.

IRONSOS, I’m not a sports person but you have my sympathy. I know what it is like to lose someone iconic to your personal interest.

GRAYMAYNE, we listened to ADOW and SON when we drove to Texas in October and I’m still trying to talk myself out of rereading them before July. Unfortunately, they are much fresher in my mind than the most recent Diana Gabaldon. It has been three years and it was an enormous book. Diana Harkness works more quickly. Of course, Diana Gabaldon writes a lot of auxiliary books which distract her from the important work of her main story.

It turns out it was worse than pine trees, power lines and poles down across the road that blocked our way home. It seems the hospital across the street from the downed pine trees had a transformer blow during the storm which ignited a gas leak which caused and explosion. No one at the hospital experienced more than a twisted ankle ( a fireman) but some patients were moved to other hospitals while the fire was managed. It was a tremendous storm not to have been a tornado.

I am home trying to pack for the camping trip today. I will also have to make dinner tonight. We can’t continue living off the cooking I did on Monday.

Tomorrow my DS and daughter are attending a seminar and I am staying home to continue packing and doing laundry for my DS for the week ahead. During the afternoon I will move across the street to my mother’s washer and dryer so we can watch the Belmont Stakes together. We are excited to have the possibility of a Triple Crown winner as there has been none since Affirmed in 1978.

Got through the home inspection with very few concerns – just requests for two small fixes. Last big hurdle jumped. Two weeks until closing!

Closing on a house and getting married about five weeks later is a lot. Are you going to be moved in before the wedding? I don’t suppose you want to come home after the honeymoon and have to move.

It is storming again, Flash Flood Warning for three hours. My phone has been sending our alerts. It is nothing compared to yesterday when my phone never said a word.

Thanks, ironsos, us too!

We will be moved in before the wedding. We have 5 weeks between when we close and when we leave town for the wedding. So that should give us enough time to unpack. The main floor is move-in ready. There is one small hallway I want to repaint, but I won’t kill myself if it doesn’t get done before we leave (though no furniture will need to be moved in that area, so should be a one day event). Otherwise, I’m fine with the color scheme for the time being (maybe one day I’ll give myself a yellow kitchen). The basement needs work, but the type of work I want done is months to years down the line. We’ll probably end up taking the ceiling tiles out down there and staining the exposed floor and joints above and using that as the ceiling to gain a few more inches of head room. There’s no real rush, it’s live-able for now, especially since that will be my fiance’s man-cave living space, not mine (he has a love affair with basements I just don’t get). My main house project before the wedding will be to stain and seal the back deck, that should hopefully just be a weekend project – maybe 4th of July weekend where I have an extra day. It’s too late in the summer and drought to worry too much about landscaping (though it’s not bad, just needs some life and grass seed); though I probably will transplant my herbs. And seeing that we cancelled the honeymoon to help with the downpayment (and not gain even more debt), I’ll have a day or two more for house projects between the wedding and when classes start.

DR. LEW, that is very sensible of you. You will have plenty of future vacations you can call a honeymoon. The only thing missing on those future trips is you won’t both be wearing rings so blindingly, shiny new that everyone who sees you will know you are on your honeymoon. Even though my DS was 40 and I was 31 everyone could take one look at those brand new rings and tell we were on our honeymoon.

We need to stain and reseal the deck on my mother’s house. It is quite large and has two levels. We don’t know where to start. We don’t know if we need to sand it first or if we can just stain it and reseal it.

I would like to have a basement, especially if I lived in Kansas. It would be great to have a comfortable place to go during tornadoes instead of hiding in the interior bathroom.

That’s a relief, thank you:)

Talking of storms, we are having one at the moment. I was woken by a very odd sounding roll of thunder which was fortunate because five minutes later came a clap of thunder right overhead which was very loud and startling. I was glad to know that our cat was safely indoors because my DS was already up and had let him in.

My basement is the place where I have my wood working tools and it is usually cool. It gives me a place to escape and plan my next job or just to think. I know some men use it to watch a TV program that the DS is not into. Yes I do love my man cave!

I am prepping my dinner early so I can go over to my mother’s house to watch the Belmont Stakes this afternoon. I decided the easiest thing I could do was fajitas. I can get all my slicing, chopping and marinating done before I leave and then I can just apply heat to the meat, onions and poblano peppers when I get home. I’ve chopped some onion for garnish and I’ll chop up a tomato and slice some avocado when I get home.

I put together a quick impromtu pie for my DS. I had an excess amount of cream cheese so I went looking for a recipe to make a dessert to leave him while we are gone. I had some pumpkin and enough eggs so I ended up making cream cheese pumpkin pies. I hope they are edible.

My mother, daughter and I went to see a movie theater streaming of DRIVING MISS DAISY with Angela Lansbury and James Earl Jones. It was filmed on stage in Australia.

I have made my DS an enormous load of cabbage and noodles for while m daughter and I are gone. I’ve divided the batch four ways after taking out enough for side portion servings tonight. I’ll be home for dinner on Friday but I hope my DS will stop and bring home some chicken or a pizza as I’ll be driving in late in the afternoon or early evening. I will not be in the mood to cook.

It is almost time for the Tony Awards to start.

GRAYMAYNE, COOLG has worked today filling in the ruts in her driveway caused by the terrible storms. She also posted a recipe for lemon brownies on Facebook. I think she must be very tired and has just forgotten to come here.

I may or may not have internet access this week. I know there is no wifi connection at the park. I may or may not have 4G access so I could fall off the end of the earth until Friday night.
