Asti I was born in Knoxville, TN which is about 40+ miles from Gatlinburg. We often went to Gatlinburg for a Sunday Afternoon drive. Well we usually took the whole day since we always went up the mountains too. My daughter Becky was married in Gatlinburg because it was half way between where we lived and her husband’s parents. She now lives around the same area in NC.

Ironsos It has been in the high 70’s here too but a cold front is coming in again. It is suppose to be below freezing in the morning but will be warm again by the end of the week.

ASTI, Gatlinburg is the town in the mountains where my parents, daughter and I frequently visited in the last several years. It is the town at the entrance to the Smoky Mountains National Park. I have a somewhat silly notion that since where you live is a park town at the entrance to one of your national parks that there is some similarity on some level.

COOLG, my mother has been mentioning the idea of going to Gatlinburg after all the probate business is settled. It would probably be in October, during Fall Break, and not the summer. I wonder if it is possible we might overlap our stays.

Lady Hawke The girls say we are going Oct. 3 staying 4 days so if you come during that time, we could certainly meet up. Beth will have all the info about our plans well befor then. She is very organized. She will get discounts on everything. She is going sometime in May to celebrate her anniversary. Everything is already paid for . She says she will look for things for us to do while she is there.

I was going to mow this morning but it looks like it is going to rain. I think I will just curl up and read.

I looked at this past year’s school schedule. Our Fall Break tends to fall on the weekend after you will be in Gatlinburg. They have been fiddling with the school calendar a bit this year so I won’t know for certain until next year’s calendar comes out.

If it has been awhile since you’ve made a trip to the mountains it is worth a drive over to Cataloochie, NC on the other side of the park to see the elk in rut. It is an impressive sight and sound, the snorting, stomping, clashing and eerie bugling. The trees are beautiful too.

I have news that I can’t hold in!!!!

When we were at Easter dinner at my daughters the DS was with my daughter’s boyfriend in the basement and us ladies were upstairs preparing the food. The BF took the opportunity to ask my DS for my daughters hand. WOWOWOW!!

Neither let on that they had been having a serious talk. We had dinner and not until today did the DS tell me. My daughter has NO idea. He is proposing on the day she graduates with her masters. May 17th!!
Not telling my daughter and holding this secret will be extremely hard! I have three weeks to wait. I may not survive. :(

I am so excited for her. She has been so patient waiting for his proposal. He is a very nice young man. I am so proud!

Very windy day with a few trees down and a couple trucks blown over. Heavy snow in the mountains but
but not much at all in the valleys. Maybe a very light dusting in the morning.

MM This is lovely news, and so charming that your husband was asked for his consent. I am pleased that you have let off steam by whispering in our ears so that we can keep the secret with you. If you are caught grinning to yourself say that you are thinking of your grandchild. Sssshhh!

Ironsos I hope that is the last of the winter weather!

Lady Hawke I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a get-together:)

The sun is struggling to show itself through the clouds but we are in for some showers later this morning.

I am thoroughly enjoying my third reading of A Discovery of Witches, savouring the slow burn of this important relationship and the details of the surroundings and the treasured books in the library. Deborah Harkness is a fine writer.

MM, so happy for you. I know the lack of a ring has worried you and that is about to be rectified. I don’t know how you will hold it in but you must. Your daughter is going to wonder why you are so excessively happy she is finishing her Master’s.

I’m not working today. There are more papers to sign at the bank.

Morning

I have been mowing the inside of my fense. It is done but my flower gardens need some work. I have looked everywhere for my garden tools. The only thing I found was a small hand shovel. I know they were here because my children have used them when they have come for the first and only yard work they do here. I guess they have taken them home along with other things. I really need to prune my rose bushes but have no pruning sheers. Or at least I can’t find them. I bet Jennifer took them home last year to get her boyfriend to sharpen them. Looks like I will need to go to the hardware store to buy some new ones.

MM That is great news.

Lady Hawke Maybe things will work out. I would hate missing you by a week.

Graymayne You have made me want to reread the book too. I might need to wait until it is closer to the new book coming out so I can remember the details.

Ironsos That took some time. My score was 150/170. The 80’s were when my girls were teenagers and the VHS plus player came out. We would rent about 6 movies a weekend during the winter so the girls would be busy watching movies. Did not have sattalite or other movie channels. We were lucky to have cable but the cable did not have HBO or other movie stations then. I thought we were lucky to have USA etc.

I finished mowing the front yard. I even mowed down the fense row next to the road next door. I started mowing it when I remembered I did not own it anymore. Since I parked by the fense most of the snow days , I decided to mow the parking place anyway. We kept gravel there for parking all the time even though grass had grown up and you could not see the gravel. It makes the place look better to have in front of the fense mowed. I will wait until tomorrow to mow the side and back yard.

I washed the dishes too. I had enough to wash since I cooked yesterday. That reminds me I should heat up left overs for lunch or supper now.

Good evening!

MM, I am so, so pleased, and thank you for telling us! Hug your lovely secret to your heart for a few more weeks, knowing how happy your daughter will be!! Please do try to survive!

LEW, good to see you! Wedding update, please?

Lady Hawke, of course, I also know Gatlinburg through you. I do so hope you and CoolG can meet up, that would be so special. And no, my town is nothing like it. Just a very ordinary English town.

Ironsos, I will have a look at your link, but have a feeling my low score will be embarrassing!

Hi Mistic. I forgot to tell you that Leaky has been dusting the last two days. It looks like it was back up when you got here.

I got the mower in the side yard ready to mow. I looked and there were just too many limbs in the yard. By the time I picked most of them up I was too dizzy to mow. Leaning over gets me every time. Mistic called so I rested while I was talking to her. I thought I would try mowing again but instead I had to put everything away. Maybe I can finish mowing tomorrow. I hope I remember not to spend time picking up limbs etc.

I still think JK should have written another chapter after the battle. It would be nice to know what happened in the 19 years. I do think JK said who the others married but I don’t remember. Hmm I wonder if I read some fanfic that told about the others ? Maybe it was on her site Pottermore?

While sitting in a classroom today I heard a boy ask, “Who’s Tom Riddle?” I said, “Voldemort.” He siad, “Huh?” I said, “Voldemort, Lord Voldemort.” He said, “I said Tom Riddle. R I D D L E, TOMm” I said, " Yes, Tom Riddle is Lord Voldemort." Some other student said, “You asked who Tom Riddle was.” I said, “Lord Voldemort, Harry @otter.”

He opened the cover of the school issued Biology textbook he was using. It has the list of students to whom the book had been assigned. He was just asking who this kid was he didn’t know. No wonder he looked at me like I was crazy.A Harry Potter fan had obviously written Tom Riddle on the list and this boy had no idea what the joke was.

Later I had to formally write the boy up for using profanity and dropping the F word multipe times as he stood up and stormed out of class without permission. I had him in two classes and he was spoiiling for a fight all day. He had even suggested earlier in the day he might just walk out in the afternoon class. He did. He was written up and will likely do some time at in house suspension at school.

CoolG After the final book was released Jo addressed several groups of fans and was asked quite a few questions. I’m pretty sure I copied some of those reports but they don’t appear to be on this computer. I know that I have a copy of family trees written out by Jo which included the husbands and offspring of the most prominent characters, I haven’t located it yet.

Hello, all! I’m in a bit of a rotten mood carried over from yesterday, but I’m showing a movie in my first class and giving an exam in my second class, so it really isn’t a bad Friday. Two more weeks of class and they couldn’t be over soon enough. I’m over this semester, this year, these first two years. It seems like all of the faculty in my department are dragging and have bad cases of spring fever. We’re all just surviving at this point – it’s been a really rough semester.

Asti asked for a wedding update. I don’t really have anything to report. I’ve pretty much been working 60-80+ hour weeks all term – worse over the second half over the semester, and haven’t done anything. My maternal grandfather passed away in the beginning of March, so my mom has been taking care of her parents full time, so hasn’t done anything either. That being said, there’s not much to do right now. I did confirm my minister a few weeks ago. The minister I grew up with retired, so his schedule isn’t as open as it used to be; I’ve been waiting for him to confirm his summer vacation schedule. He’s amazing and has postponed his trip in August by a day so he can perform my wedding. I’m honored and thrilled.

Other than that, I’ll get home in early June for dress fitting, cake picking, menu picking, hair trial, meeting with the florist, church, music people, and reception venue…and other detail crap that should take me through July. I"m exhausted and stressed just thinking about it. Especially since we’re trying to pull together a huge fundraiser for the Museum in later June, and now my Matron of Honor is trying to organize a bachlorette in June, as well. Le sigh.

And because I’m a masochist, the fiance and I are trying to buy a house. We’ve been casually looking for a few months, and then rather unexpectedly, we put in an offer on Monday on a house I loved. Sadly is was not accepted, and I’m still not over it. But we’ve definitely ramped up the search and are actually considering buying at this point, rather than just looking.

Anywho, I’m getting stressed out just writing this, so I think I’ll return to the video I’m showing in class and stressing over the length of the exam I’m giving in my next class. I’ll be lurking!

Graymayne Thanks. I knew I had read about who married whom and their children. Like you, I think it is on another computer that I can’t get to. I use to save everything HP after the last book too. I think I need to reread the books. I only got to the second one on the reread we did here.

No mowing for me today. It has been raining. I am afraid the back yard may get so high that I will have to weed eat it instead of mowing. Jennifer did it for me last year. She is too busy now to help. I was going to go walking but figured pushing the mower was just as good. I may have to walk today instead if it stops raining.

Lady Hawke That is the reason I never did sub for teachers. I thought about it for a little while but knew I had spent too much time with my own children and their friends to want to be closed in with more children all day.

Lady Hawke I guess I should clarify about the sub. The one I did consider seriously was in college and they wanted me to be a sub for accounting classes. Not only would I sub and take classes over for the regular teacher but I would have to do other work when I was not subing so it would be a full time job. It was a good opportunity but my DS did not want me to do it. He was at his limit with my being away so much from home. With his work and my going to school, we were away from each other a lot. I decided that a happy home life was more important than having a job I would love. Funny he did not object to my working with him for his company. LoL

I know this seems so very old fashion for most of you modern ladies. You have to remember that my generation still mainly stayed home instead of working outside of the home. My DS was very old fashion. He was the bread winner but as we grew older, a lot of that notions changed. He did not mind me going to college which I did to get two degrees but he still wanted me to work with him. Even after he retired, he stil wanted me to work with him. That is how I had several jobs that had nothing yo do with my degrees. I knew I would only work so long before I had to quit. So I just worked because I wanted to for a while.

Dr. LEW It sounds like you have things under control for your wedding. Getting stressed over the details is just a part of the whole wedding thing.
