Hi Lady Hawke! I don’t know if she’s in a nominated movie but she was a presenter, so perhaps that’s why she got such a nice seat! And they used one of the HP theme songs leading into a commercial break!

For the first time in a while I haven’t seen any of the Best Pic nominees. sigh Maybe next weekend! :)

I’ve seen Gravity and that is it. A lot of the nominees are people you already know. I’m enjoying looking at the dresses. It is also helping me determine what movies I care about seeing on DVD.

I thought Emma looked beautiful, very sophisticated and elegant. She didn’t allow her dress to wear her. You could see how beautiful she is without a dress that made her fight not to look ridiculous.

LH, Emma is in Noah with Russell Crowe, which is coming out at the end of the month. Don’t forget that the Oscars are all about Marketing. I liked Emma’s dress, but I thought her hair looked horrible.

I’d only seen one nominee – Gravity. I’m the only person I know who was less than impressed with it.

DRAT, we did have ice last night, sometime after we went to bed at midnight. When we went to bed it was still thundering and lightning and pouring rain.

I say DRAT because in addition to making it possible for me to stay home without taking an official day off it has caused the flooring people to call me and tell me they can’t get here today either. So, that means I will have to take tomorrow off to get the floor laid in.

So, that means I won’t be paid two days this week.

I am also trying to call and get the utility services switched today. Unfortunately, the utility companies are being deluged with calls from people whose service has been interrupted because of fallen trees and broken pipes. They don’t have time to talk to me about switching services.

Lady Hawke I believe the weather complications which you are experiencing would be termed by insurance companies an act of God. Perhaps prayer might be an antidote:-/

I was able to watch the Oscars. I even watched the Oscars After Party. I did not lose power. I think we only got about 3 inches of snow where I live. Surrounding areas got more. Needless to say, I was very happy. I was hoping all the things I did to prepare for no electric did not have to be put to use.

I finally got through to the electric company. It was a battle, involved waiting for returned calls (electing to stay in line electronically and await a return call). After the first return call I thought I could complete the process online but I was being given a “hook up” date for Mar. 11, indicating the service would come and turn on our service at that time. Since we didn’t need turning on, just a name change on the service I called them again and had to wait for another return call. That person completed my request herself and explained because of the bad weather and because all the trucks were out dealing with problems it might be Mar. 11 before a meter reader can come and switch service to us. Until then the former owner is paying the water bill. He won’t be able to turn off the service any faster than it can take us to get it switched. They will do it sooner if they can.

My DS is going to drive me to City Hall to see if I can handle the water switch over in person since no one is calling me back.

I don’t know if the house has any gas other than the fireplace. I’ve left a message with the previous owner, asking him to let me know if he has an account with the gas company I need to transfer. I haven’t heard from him either.

Act of God or not, no one is going to pay me for days I don’t work. The previous owner can’t hold it against me for not being able to transfer services when there is a state of emergency. I’m doing the best I can to notify those in authority that he is no longer responsible for the house and that we want to be.

I meant the previous owner is paying the electricity until the electric company does the switch over. I am going to try to deal with the water department today.

School is back in session today so I’m officially taking the day off.

Tomorrow we are travelling about 70 miles to attend my DS’s neice’s funeral. Our new neighbour, who has three cats, has promised to let our cat into our kitchen after lunch and we will be back about tea-time. Our son will be at the gathering so that will be something to look forward to. I am hoping that the promised frost in the morning soon dissipates

GRAYMAYNE, it seems they held the funeral quite a long time. Were they waiting for family to make the trip? The good part about funerals is the survivors have an opportunity to see one another, many times for the first time in years. Will you have an opportunity to have a meal with BigG?

I have managed to switch the utilities. The floor men have most of the hardwood in the living room/dining room down. They will finish that today and come back tomorrow to put the hardwood down in the one bedroom and carpet the two additional downstairs bedrooms. They have the key and are leaving their equipment in the house so it is to their advantage to lock up tight. I will check once they are gone this evening just to make myself feel more secure.

Lady Hawke Unfortunately, my DS forgot to renew his driving licence last month so we couldn’t hire a car, but our wonderful downstairs neighbour volunteered to drive us, together with her boyfriend, and have a few hours around Manchester before meeting up with us after the refreshments which follow the event at the crematorium. This means that we are not as free as we might have been, but we do have to get back home to our cat. My DS will be tired anyway, not having had his afternoon nap, but he might nod off in the car on the way home.

Well done with regard to the utilities and the progress with the flooring, I think you have worked miracles!

We went back to school today, although county directly north of us and the City of Memphis did not. I drove all over Memphis today searching for discount wallpaper. There was no ice on the roads.

The county directly west of us and Memphis, across the Mississippi River, has closed schools again tomorrow. Everyone around us appears to have been devastated while it was a blip for us. I heard the interstate, heading north in Arkansas out of Memphis toward St. Louis and Chicago, was a parking lot for 12 hours yesterday. Nothing moved at all. People were out there with no gas, no food, no anything. It is a rural area so there would have been nowhere to walk if you abandoned your car. It was a desperate situation. Here we were with no ice or snow by midday and no more than a twenty minute drive away.

GRAYMAYNE, how difficult will it be for your DS to renew his driver’s license. Will he have to retest or will he just have to pay a fine and a reinstatement fee? If he will be tired it is just as well he won’t have to drive. At least you will see BigG at the reception after the funeral.

I did check the progress at the house on my way home. The installers had finished the living room/dining room area and it appears to have been quality work and well done. Having a beautiful wood floor down is exciting after seeing the room with nothing but a concrete floor. It is quite dusty from all the work boots and dust from cutting the boards to fit. I presume they will clean it up for us before finishing the job.

I was looking for discount wall paper because my mother wants to line the kitchen cabinets before moving her kitchen things in. At the apartment we used shelf paper from a dollar store, very cheap stuff in quality but very expensive in cost. She decided she wanted something of better quality in a house and wanted to look into better quality shelf paper. I found good quality shelf paper was cripplingly expensive for a very small amount.

My mother had used a paper 38 years ago when we moved into the house they sold last summer that had lasted for all that time, still in prime condition. She was worried it would be quite expensive now and shelf paper definitely was. Then, suddenly, yesterday I remembered what she used wasn’t shelf paper at all. It was a roll of industrial wallpaper she had found on discount for the purpose. So, today I checked with the flooring installers and headed out to find discount wallpaper. I was able to get 54 yards (49.4 m) 27 inches (68.6 cm) wide for $13.00. I could have only had two small pieces of proper shelf paper for that. This has a slightly rubbery feel so it should be easy to wipe down as was the paper my mother used 38 years ago.

For the third day in a row the school district to our north is going to be closed. There is no ice left on the roads in the city but there are schools with no electricity and still some ice in the northern area of the county.

It is amazing next week is Spring Break for all schools in this region.

After I came home I made lentil soup for my DS and I have roasted mixed vegetables and stir fried asparagus, onions and mushrooms. I will be working the rest of the week and I decided I wanted to have as much food precooked as possible for the rest of the week.

It is not as if I have not been busy, busy, busy all day long but I’m happy to have some of the heavy lifting done for dinner the next two nights.

Lady Hawke It looks like things are turning around for the better. When do you think your parents will make the move?

Do you remember I told you I had no hot water? Well I reset the hot water heater but it never felt like the water was warming. Today I was running the hot water to fill a pan to heat it to wash dishes. Low and behold, the water turned hot. So I guess the hot water heater is working.

It seems every year about this time I have problem with my SS. Either it is depostied the wrong amount or not deposited at all. Well this time the part that was from the DS was not deposited. I have not received anything in the mail from SS so this is a mistake on someone’s part again. I have texted my daughter to check on this for me. Since she deals with SS so much in her work, she can find out things more quickly than I can. Plus she is my designated person to deal with problems for me. She will have to check with the bank to make sure they did not send it back. They have several times over the years. January they deposited my check twice. It seems when they do this over the weekend they never get it right.

We are home again after a very satisfactory family and friends gathering to celebrate my neice-by-marriage’s life. There was a huge turnout of friends and colleagues and she was obviously greatly loved and appreciated. It was good to catch up with relatives, and I was pleased to discover a husband and wife who were both keen on The Hunger Games, in line with their daughter.

Good evening!

Wow, WHAT a few days. Sister and I got a lot of work done at the parents, clearing out all our belongings, and organising the loft, so that when aged parents are ready to tackle the contents, they are easily accessable. We wanted to bring everything down, to save them getting up there, but Mum said there was nowhere to put it. Which is true. Apart from two piles of bin bags, one for the skip, and one for charity shops, NOTHING has been packed or sorted. I despair.

Sister and I spent the evenings reminiscing, staying up very late, and drinking positively obscene amounts of wine.

In the boxes of my belongings, I have found some old school books, a lot of piano music that I thought had gone forever, some poems and stories that I wrote, lots of letters and photos, and screams of horror, my diaries from aged 14 to 18. I have been reading through them, and am spending most of my time blushing. I was completely boy obsessed!

One lovely find was a pair of earrings that I was given by my aunt for being her bridesmaid aged 14. It has bugged me often that I didn’t know where they were. I assumed they had been lost. I was delighted to find them.

I will catch up properly soon. I’ve just managed to get my nose out of my diaries long enough to pop in so you know I’m still here. The contents may be making me cringe, but they are compelling reading, lol!

Asti You make me laugh about your diary. I have one too when I was younger than your’s. It seems like every other page there is a new boy that I am interested in. Mine was not lost. I kept it in a box of old pictures which all of my daughters have gone thru when they were younger. Since they have all read it, it was good that I was young when I wrote in it. Lol

The snow has been melting all day. It is almost gone in my yard but the ground is saturated. I thought about moving my truck into the driveway but decided to wait a few days to make sure it doesn’t snow again. I am going to have gravel put in the driveway this summer. With all the snow melting and running down the driveway, a lot of my gravel has piled up against the fense. I might be able to park in the driveway next winter if I have gravel put down. I can put it next to the paved road and not have a big ……to go over if it snows and has ice left on the driveway.

repeated pushes for the floor I was on why the darn thing would not take me to the floor I wished to go to.

IRONSOS, I call that distracted when I do it.

The floor is down in the house. So, now I can book a moving van for early next week. We are going to hand carry the boxes and drawers this weekend.

I’m only working half day today so I can take the vacuum to the house. All the little bits and pieces of carpet fibers cut off at the edges are all over the new carpet. I’ll also dust mop the floor to get the saw dust off the new floor.

ASTI, I had a diary a time or two as a teenager but I never could bring myself to write in them properly. I was always afraid someone would see what I wrote or I would get killed and my parents would read what I wrote. So, the few days or weeks I ever attempted to use a journal always ended up in a weather report and maybe a record of what I did that day. “It was 88 degrees and sunny. I went to school today.” So, there wasn’t much point in writing one.

I’m ready a book right now that is written as a diary of a pioneer woman in Colorado after the Civil War. Her diary is found in a trunk in an attic trunk and the person who opens it notes that the diary looks like a real personal diary rather than one meant for public consumption as a record of her travels, something she could allow someone at home to read. Instead, there is language that leads the reader to believe this is a real personal diary, filled with private thoughts and records.

I just got through with a very hot shower. It felt so good that I think I washed my body 3 times. I usually wash in order so I don’t forget any body parts. I have my clothes on and my hair is half dried. I am resting before I finish drying. Although I am better, I still can not keep my arms over my head for very long. This is not my regular day to wash my hair but when I had no hot water, I missed a couple of days where I would normally wash my hair.

My daughter checked with the SS department. It seems that something the State paid for I no longer qualify for at this time. So I will be receiveing less money for the next couple of months. Not exactly less money just more taken out of my SS check automatically before it is deposited. When the electric bill is double it is not a good time to be receiving less money. It would have been nice to have received advanced notice.

I think my grandson has made it home from Germany for the birth of his daughter. I have not heard and have not seem them on FB so figure he made it home OK. I may see him this weekend if his daughter has not arrived. Otherwise I don’t know when he will have time for other family.

Lady Hawke Hope everything goes as planned on the move.

MM I hope you are having a good time without any snow and warmer weather.

I’ve booked the movers for Monday.

I did vacuum the cut fibers off the carpet but …someone….has torn the pad off my Swiffer Sweeper. It smacks of someone thinking they were taking it apart for cleaning when in reality they ripped it apart for good. So, I’ll have to get another dust mop with the static clothes.

I’ve arranged for pest treatment and termite traps.

I’ve arranged for my father to be transported since I don’t believe I can get him into a wheelchair and in and out of a car anymore.

I’ve started cutting the shelf paper but I need a yardstick instead of a ruler and I can’t find one. I guess I need to go to a hardware store.

Good evening!

No overtime tomorrow, and while I regret the money, I am relieved. After last weekend I need a break. Though I had an email from Mum earlier, suggesting that we come over again to help. Humph. Had she done ANYTHING over the last few weeks, she might not be panicking now, with three to go. Humph grr.

I had to go to a meeting at the school tonight about Uni, and the process of applying. It’s all a LOT more serious and intense than in my day. I’m pleased to see that the school mentor each student closely during the application process.

Still reading through my diaries. I’m up to 1986 now, and am grateful beyond belief that my parents have respected my privacy for all these years! Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t a tearaway, or do anything they would lose sleep over, but oh gosh, I am cringing at pretty much every page! So many boys are mentioned, in love with a different one every week! I’d also forgotton quite how much time I spent babysitting for people. (So I must have been pretty well thought of!!) I was practically a cottage industry, the entire village seemed to rely on me to look after their children.

Lady Hawke, I am glad that you are all finally getting there with the house. It will be a relief all round to have your parents in there.

MM, it is lovely to see your pics on Facebook, looking so well and happy. xx

LEW, on a beach……..and married!!

So, tomorrow I have to call the moving company and hope I can delay until Friday and then I have to call hospice and reschedule it all with them. Sigh…
