Good evening!

I took daughter and a friend to a fun swim today, where the pool was full of floats, inflatables and balls. I “supervised” from the viewing gallery with my book, and had a nice, quiet hour lol.

Lady Hawke, the only thing I know of that is in anyway similar is something that appeared on a lot of buffet menus some years ago. My Mum calls them “curried eggs,” and, as far as I am aware, you mash the yolks with mayonnaise and curry powder before putting them back in the yolks. I’ve had a quick look, but can’t find an actual recipe for them.
I LOVE the serving dish!
And why is it traditional for a bride to be given one?
And please know you are in my thoughts. xx

MM, yay for pulling a sicky for such a lovely reason! Enjoy your day, and I won’t breathe a word on Facebook, lol!

They are popular here in the Midwest too. I love Deviled Eggs. Everyone in my family loves the too. I save them for special occasions only. New Years, pot lucks, picnics, birthdays, showers, etc. not that they are hard to make. It’s just that you feel they are party food.

I am sitting here holding my grand baby and enjoying my day off. He is such a bundle of energy. He is starting to walk and can crawl very fast. His squeals of laughter can lighten your heart. After a nap he is the happiest baby in the whole wide world. He gives me so much pleasure. :). Well worth a day off work.

We have a deviled egg religion here in Southern Maryland… Along with our steamed Blue Crabs & Shrimp. This is my grandma’s recipe for true Maryland style deviled eggs to die for! 1 doz hard boiled large eggs, halved & yolks removed. 1/2 lb of Smithfield bacon cooked well done & drained and degreased with paper towels. 1/4 cup of Dukes mayonnaise. (Hellmans/Best’s) an ok substitute. 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning. Salt, & pepper (cayenne) to taste.
Mash yolks & mix with Mayo, Old Bay, & s&p. Pulverize bacon in a food processor & blend in to yolk/mayo mixture. Refrigerate the mixture covered in a non metallic bowl covered with plastic wrap for 24 hours. Add mixture using a spoon or melon baller to egg white halves. Serve right away. God, I am drooling just from thinking about this… :+)

ASTI, most Southerners view an egg plate as essential. You are going to use it for every family function. You can’t just borrow your mother’s. You must have your own. Sometimes my mother and I will both make them for the same dinner. So, traditional brides used to put them on their bridal registry. Capsized eggs are not as nice as carefully balanced ones.

You see; there are all sorts of variations of which your curried eggs are a close relative.

Ironsos I do love your sense of humour:-) I looked up your link above and then found myself totally side-tracked by several of the other available interesting snippets.

Won-Two Great to hear from you! How are you getting on with your new teeth, and is your jaw fully healed? I still can’t believe the amount of damage that poorly secured bike did to you. I’ve thought through your grandma’s meticulous recipe and tasted it in my imagination and, apart from the egg white which I couldn’t bring myself to eat, it sounds rather delicious. I will have to look up Old Bay and Smithfield bacon though. I’m fascinated by this Devilled egg tradition.

CoolG What is your take on Devilled eggs?

Lady Hawke Now I want to know if Dr. Lew is a Devilled Egg fancier …

I actually don’t eat many deviled eggs. I do think they’re good (as long as they don’t taste like mayo), but they aren’t my choice food when presented with other options. I will occasionally when they’re on a buffet or brought to a party, but I don’t know that I’ve ever made them myself (maybe helped my mom out once if I have made them).

I do not have a deviled egg dish on my registry. ;)

This is a deviled egg plate very similar to the one I inherited from my mom. It dates from the mid 1950’s…. The only big difference is that instead of the lil blue birdies salt & pepper shakers, mine has a hen & rooster.

The money has hit the bank. I found the Facebook page for Great American Insurance Company yesterday and did a multi paragraph rant about how negligent their process has been in giving us our money. They contacted me through Facebook and asked for the policy number of the account and my contact information. I gave them the contact information of the lady at the bank as well, By 2 PM yesterday I received a phone call telling me the check had been cut. By 12:30 PM today I received word from the bank the money had arrived.

Now, it turns out there has to be a new title search. It was done over a month ago and must be done again. Now we can’t close until Wednesday.

WON, that is a sweet looking egg plate. Is your plate in blue and white or a different color scheme?

It is quite windy here. We have a possibility of some severe weather moving in the next few hours. All after school activities have been canceled.

I only worked half day today. So, I am home roasting some veggies and making French Onion Soup. With the wind gusting and the dark stormy skies it suits my mood to be home. I will have to go pick up my daughter in less than an hour.

The Watches are not so bad. It is the Warnings that are the problem. A Watch just means the conditions are favorable. A Warning means there is a verified one out there and in your general vicinity. We had a Warning for a short time late this afternoon. Although our sirens were going off, the radar tracks indicated it was south and east of us. They generally track to the north and east. So, we weren’t in the path. Now, they can tell you street by street where the tornado is tracking and its estimated time of arrival.

The wind is still very high but the Watch is about to expire.

The last few weeks it has been snow and ice. Now it is flooding, high winds, and tornadoes.

Won I hope your’s passes without damage.

Lady Hawke Thank goodness you found somewhere to get the financial institution on the ball. I think my brother-in-law had to threaten one for my in laws to get them to release their money.

Graymanye We have tornado watches and warnings anytime the weather changes from hot to cold. We have been under tornadoe watches the last two days.

MM Nice to take a day to be with your grandchild. He is really growing.

As far as deviled eggs go, I love them. I had several egg plates and tupperware egg covers but my daughters have cobbed on to them over the years. Since I hardly ever make them now, I am glad they have my egg plates. Whenever I want them, I just remind one or the other that since they have my plates they should just make them. One thing different with mine is that I put sweet pickel juice in the mix and I like to use both mayo and mustard .

I thought something had happened to my Kindel Fire. It would not come on. Since it was plugged in, I thought something had happened. I checked the cords and found the electric cord was almost unplugged. I plugged it somewhere else but nothing happened. Today I got my regular kindel cord and plugged it into the Kindel Fire. In just a few minutes it came on enough that I could check and the battery was barely charged. So now I am going to have to check the cord that came with it to make sure it is making connection. I am glad I finally got it to come on. I had hunted for the box it cam in and my insurance number to get ready to send it back for replacement.

Yesterday I realized that I had not been on the computer for several days. I was just reading and watching the olympics. This way I just let the bad day pass by without me realizing it until it was gone for another year.

Attention all fans of Deborah Harkness I found this very interesting article on the BBC News website on 18th February
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-26198471
The manuscript in question is mentioned in Shadow of Night in the section where our heroine is in Prague (I think). It was said to have been swopped for Ashmole 782. I have copied the pictures into my SoN folder.

Good evening!

We’ve had a teriffic couple of days. Yesterday, daughter and I met up with Mum. My sister was able to get the day off work and come too. A lot of cake was eaten, and a lot of books were bought…….Mum and sis both buying for daughters birthday.
The birthday was today. After presents, we went for a FAB bike ride in the forest….about 6 miles through trails, thick trees, and many puddles. Birthday cake for lunch, then we went for an early meal at our Italian restaurant. Daughter managed most of a lasagne, and most of a HUGE slab of chocolate fudge cake with icecream and chocolate sauce.

Now she is pretty tired! So am I!

Asti Please wish your daughter a belated Happy Birthday from both of us. I am vastly impressed by her appetite, perhaps it was the bike ride that did it. I’m delighted that you have had two days of fun and frolicks, after the weather we have been suffering I think that is just the remedy needed to restore our spirits.

Thank you for the link, GRAYMAYNE. That is amazing professional code breakers have been unable to translate the books through all these hundreds of years.

ASTI, I’m so glad you all had such a good day together, that all were able to participate and had a good time. I know your day is over but Happy Belated Birthday to your daughter.

I went and packed ten boxes from my mother’s kitchen. Her cabinets are empty except for the items she uses on a daily basis. I am almost ready to tell a moving company to go collect them.

My daughter was invited to spend the afternoon and the night with her friend from school who has Tourette’s Syndrome. The grandparents have a booth selling chocolate dipped strawberries at the local flea market. They took her with them for the day and she may go back with them tomorrow. She had a fabulous time, much better than she would have had with me. She and her friend are spending the night with the grandparents. I stepped in for a few minutes. I had met them before on several occasions but I thought I would visit before leaving my daughter with them at their home. I found out the friend’s mother graduated from the same high school from which I graduated and had some of the same teachers, some problems with the same teachers. I enjoyed visiting with them. They were very nice people and I left with no qualms about my daughter staying with them.

Good evening!

Thankyou for all the birthday messages, especially my funny dog man friend, you made me smile! I have passed them on, and she says “thank you!”

I go back to work tomorrow, and am having an inner tantrum and drumming my metaphorical heels on the floor screaming " I DON’T WANT TOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! It feels like I have been off forever. Still, needs must.

MM and Graymayne, you would not believe the amount that girl can eat! She’s always eaten well, but she does astound me sometimes. At our evening meal, I usually eat more, but if we are together at lunchtime, she often carries on after I am full up. She just burns it all up. It worries me a lot that she is already aware of being slim and slender, and is the envy of some of her friends. So much pressure.

Lady Hawke, it may comfort you to know that my sister and I are planning on spending at least two weekends out of the coming four over with my parents, going through our belongings that remain in their house, and helping them pack up. Our DS’s will be roped in at some point to transport vans full of furniture. Mum is still very much in the planning stage when it comes to packing…….as in, nothing has yet been done!

We slept in this morning and attended regular service as opposed to early service. We have upgraded our cable service at a discounted price and we now have in house phones. Unfortunately, you can’t hear the phones that are hooked to the computer (as a base phone and locked up in the computer room) and the one in the master bedroom when we are in the living room and kitchen. We went to find a third matching phone to put out in the living area of the house. I have never liked having only cell phones. If you put them down and leave them alone in a room with a door shut you can’t hear them. If the home phones were shut away where we couldn’t hear them we had accomplished nothing by adding phones. My mother panics when she can’t reach me. So, this should make us both feel more secure.

ASTI, I envy you and I don’t envy you. I had a great time going through all those forgotten treasures in my parent’s house last year BUT it was a lot of tiring, emotional work. It was sad to see the things that had deteriorated beyond practical use. It was both happy and sad to see things that held emotional value but had no tangible, useful value any longer. It was exciting to find things whose existence you had forgotten and you were thrilled to see again. It was exhausting dragging out and disposing of all the things that were essentially trash or that had no value except as donation goods.

We have two weeks of school before our week of Spring Break. I would be excited about that normally but now I have anxiety about what two weeks will bring. I may be unpacking at the new house or we could still be “just waiting”. Or I could be finished unpacking and have some free time during our break.

Once we close and get the new floors in I want to be able to call the moving company to schedule and when they ask me when I want to schedule I want to be able to say as soon as you have an opening.

My father is sleeping most of the time. He doesn’t stay awake very long, just enough to eat, and then he is asleep again. When I told him on Friday the closing should be on Wednesday he said, “Today is Friday? And the closing is on Thursday?” When I said, “Yes”, he nodded and closed his eyes. It worried me a bit.
