I have been successful in staying home. We listened to a bit more of MOCKINGJAY. Then, my daughter decided to take a bit of a nap. My DS and I switched over to OUTLANDER and worked on a puzzle that has been set up on a cardtable in my living room for the last three weeks, the most difficult puzzle I have ever worked. It is a photo of gemstones. The photo is quite attractive but upon opening the box we have found the colors to lack the brilliance of the cover photo and the resolution to be muddied. Most of the pieces you are looking for do not turn out to be the color you are anticipating, not do the shapes of them have the clarity you expect. We have worked on it for close to twenty four hours at this point and we are only about 2/3s done. We are down to the difficult parts now so the rest may take just as long as that which we have already finished.

We have taken a break for my DS to mow the lawn and for me to pull together dinner. When my daughter wakes up we will probably resume with MOCKINGJAY.

IRONSOS, our girl Shetland Sheepdog, miniature Lassie, often comes to tell us “Timmy has fallen down the well”, completely with the barking and the head being tossed over her shoulder as she backs up, runs forward, and darts away. Mostly we find she is “crying wolf”. It mostly means there are an over abundance of birds in the trees in the backyard and she desperately needs to defend her territory. We have definitely never found that Timmy is actually down the well.

Lady Hawke: I just like the fact that Lassie had enough of Timmy.

“Garfield” Spoiler Alert: For Asti.
Lassie finally had enough of Timmy and pushed him down the well.
End spoiler alert.

Goodness I am so glad that Mistic Willow retired. If not she could have been at the Naval Yard in Washington DC.

I have been thinking all week end that I was glad that Laura did not live in Boulder now. I am terrible that I only think of the people I know. I do feel bad for all that are being effected by the floods and the gunman.

My cousin lives in Boulder. Friday they could’t leave their house the water was so high. Their neighbors flooded but they didn’t.

CoolG I have a slightly different slant on our reactions to disasters in areas associated with our friends; I feel we take more notice and have more compassion for those affected. I have also been thinking of Laura during the reports of the flooding in Colorado, but the Naval Yard angle had not struck me. I hope that situation will soon be fully under control.

Good evening.

I have had a very woozy day. I was so deeply asleep when the alarm went off, I didn’t feel properly awake all day long. It feels as if my head is about 5 seconds behind the rest of me.

Thanks, Ironsos!

Lady Hawke, I sent you an email, but am never quite sure which is the correct address!

ASTI, I have emailed you back. No problem. I am an offender as I have explained.

Today was a long day and is going to continue to be long. I did not sleep well during the night and could hardly wake up when the alarm went off. By then I was nailed to the mattress.

This was my father’s first day of therapy. Then we realized he needed a haircut and we realized we needed to check the Social Security office so we can change the mailing address for my mother. We have attempted to do it online and by phone but they ask some strange questions about my mother’s past, where she has lived, where she has worked, when she changed jobs. She answers them. I have answered them and although we think we are answering correctly the automated voice or the computer website tells us we got the answers wrong and to try again in another week. So, we need to go directly to the source.

We ended up having lunch and I didn’t get home until less than an hour before picking my daughter up from school. Now I have to go to the hospital for the monthly meeting.

My father is going to have therapy three times a week for the next month. I will get very little else done on those days. It is too easy to end up running additional necessary errands.

I have followed the terrible news from my phone during the day.

I had a bit of a surreal moment when you all started talking about my book and posting spoiler alerts . . . . it made me giggle a bit, because that’s what we do with all of the proper authors we read and talk about. I had a bit of a scary ‘blooming eck my books about to be published and people are going to have opinions’ moment. Its not scary at all . . .!!!!!! Nope not in the slightest bit scary.

Ironsos thanks for your lovely email. It really was a pre-publication boost :-) and you don’t need your beauty sleep because you always look beautiful to me :-)

FYI this is the first book where I’ve written a female lead character. In the past I have always written male characters. I’ve started to plan out 2 other books in addition to this series and both of them have female lead characters too . . . .after 42 years I must finally be channelling my inner female.

LH glad your daughter liked it too.

. . .and I taught the Americans a new word kerb. I’m not just a writer, I’m a teacher too hahahaha. I didn’t even know that was an english word.

I have some stuff to do this evening . . .but will be back later in the week. I’ve been looking after my 4 year old nephew for the last few days while my sister has been on holiday and in between forcing him into his clothes every day, going to the park and dinosaur dancing (don’t ask!!!) I’ve got absolutely nothing done and the jobs are starting to stack up

Read article where a woman in the UK gave birth in the school where she teaches.
Talk about your “show and tell”. Woof!

I’m feeling frustrated! Roughly three weeks ago I remember asking my DS if pipe cleaners were still made and available to sell in tobacconists/sweet shops. We used to have one in our nearest market town but it is no longer there. The point of the conversation was that I had decided that pipe cleaners were just the thing for cleaning . . . .? I have just been presented with a packet of pipe cleaners but WHY did I want them?

Ah, got it! I popped a rosebud from the garden into a small vase because of impending heavy rain, but some days later I found it difficult to clean the interior base of the vase because the neck was rather narrow. Most brushes for cleaning narrow spaces have metal wire cores which could damage porcelain, so that is when I thought of pipe cleaners.

Good evening!

Had a slightly unusual walk to work this morning. It was depressing as it was the first morning where the streetlights were still on when I left the house. It was also raining, with a big black cloud overhead. Then I realised I cold see pink light, and looked behind me to see clear skies and the most glorious sunrise!

Wolfie, how many times to I have to remind you that YOU ARE A PROPER AUTHOR! Lol, enjoy!!

Graymayne, well remembered!

ASTI, we were shocked upon leaving the hospital meeting last night that it had gone dark while we were inside. we did not attend last month’s meeting and it was still day when we left the one in July. It was a hard thing to swallow, that it has once again become dark at 8 PM.

WOLFIE, I am unable to discuss your book until I have read it but when I do read it I will be using SPOILER notices. I must order it. It is contrary to my nature to order something online for which I must use a credit card but I won’t find your book lying around a used bookstore here any time soon. When I do I’m sure I will have to SQUEEEE!!!! with happiness and tell everyone the author is my friend.

I have had a quiet day her, done some laundry, made some black bean soup and talked to my friend who went to Chicago for LeakyCon with me.

My hummingbird are quite active today. We will only have them around for another few days, at the most a week or two.

hahahaha Asti There should be some type of course you can go on were you learn to become a proper author. I missed the christening of my friends daughter on Sunday and arrived just in time for the food . . . .apparently my friends agreed that as one of those ‘creative types’ I could be forgiven as I don’t live in the real world anymore! (in reality I was an hour late because 1) I had to undergo an outfit change because I’d mysteriously cut my finger and bled all over my white dress, 2) I discovered the fog outside the windscreen was because I was driving without my glasses and not because of adverse weather conditions so I had to drive back home to collect said glasses 3) I arrived at the petrol station to find that I’d left my credit card at home . . .so yes you guessed it I had to drive back home (20 mins) to pick up my card . . only to find out it was in the pocket of my coat, which was in the boot of the car. I felt very creative at that point and kicked the bumper of the car before getting back inside and driving to the church.

Creative or stupid . . .. . . .. .I’ll let you decide (ironsos before you comment remember I called you beautiful earlier on today)

As you’ve realised I’ve done none of the things I planned to do today. I’ve just played around on face book. Tomorrow I’m going to do some proper work.

Now I’m off to watch Falling Skies . . . .I like a bit of alien action

by alien action – I mean guns ablazing and swords abuckling . . . nothing rude

LH when you find my book in a book store you will not Squee, instead you will behave like a proper southern lady . . you will pick up the book, peruse it with a look of interest and then wander around the shop commenting loudly about the amazing read you’ve just found and how you are not biased and have no connection to the author at all. Then you will collect an armful of books and drop them in peoples shopping baskets while they’re not looking. (You’ve now become a major part of my marketing strategy . . .just need to get the books in stores first)

Wolfie, you are a delightfully bonkers breath of fresh air! I am now mentally rating my ex boyfriends on The Lizard Scale….. Pun intended!

Lady Hawke, I have realised this will be another BIG bonus of finishing work at 4. Even in the depths of winter, it won’t be quite dark on my way home!

Asti I weakened and ordered A Tale for the Time Being and it arrived today. I will lend it to my neighbour when I have finished it because I think that it will appeal to her. I have one book to finish before I can start on it because this current one is rather erudite and I am afraid to put it on one side in case I can’t will myself to continue. It isn’t exactly a page turner.
