I have read and listened to them all many, many times and even though something has always been bothering me at the back of my mind, but today it finally hit what the problem was.

I know you cannot put raw manure on plants, but there is still a very distictive smell from even very well composted manure. I suppose I was better able to focus on it because traffic was very light coming to work this morning. I was’t dodging as many idiots today as usual. ;)

Yes, it is a very long, backbreaking list of outdoor jobs. Presumably most of them were in the sun, therefore hot. Even in GB July 30 is apt to be a bit warmer in the sun than in the shade. ;)

I have a copy but not a used copy, a 10% discount on a new paperback. My local used bookstore had eight used copies of SS/PS and no copies of CoS, nor any other paperbacks except for HBP. I did purchase that one in anticipation of needing it. Now I will have to keep my nose to the ground for other used copies long before I need them.

Good evening!

Wolfie has been in touch…….the review edition of her book has been published, and she actually has a physical copy in her possession! How exciting!

Hi, PB! Thanks for popping in. I am so glad you all had such a good time. I enjoyed the pictures, and would love to hear all about it.

PB Was here??? :D

Looking around o see if he hiding somewhere.

LadyHawke – I must have missed it but what happened to your “old” copies of HP?

I will be reading CoS on my trip to Texas and Insurgent. Thankfully the IPad will allow me to post from the road.

LadyHawke – I don’t mind using my vacation time to stay home with my mother-in-law because I know I will have more than enough days for my trips with the DS. This year I had 3 days left over. Also, I NEED to stay home with her. The dogs need time to adjust to a new person in the house. :) it will help if I’m home to supervise their acquaintance with her. Once I know their comfortable, it should be okay to leave her alone with them. They are really good dogs.

Won – have you tried blending in the blender your favorite foods. I once had to do tat when they pulled a back molar and they tasted quite good blended. Rice and chicken were particularly good.

MM, almost all my books went into storage to wait to bake in the summer heat when we had the bedbug catastrophe. Everything in the bedroom that could not be washed in very hot water or drenched in alcohol went into storage. I’m even doing without most of my shoes.

We are watching PoA tonight.

LadyHake – I remember now. I did not realize how devastating it would be to loose the use of your HP books too. :(
At least they are not gone, they are just baking. :(

My DS has pointed out in PoA, the movie, when Hermione slugs Draco, she in fact pokes him in the face with her fingers. He slowed it down very, very slow. It certainly looks as if she sends a hand with extended fingers into his face and not a fist.

Had pancakes today… Just soaked ‘em in syrup till they got all mushy… HEAVEN! You truly do not appreciate anything until it’s gone… You all have no idea how much I would love to be able to munch on a nice crunchy, salty pretzel stick. :+/

won – Every part of your body is essential and you don’t appreciate them until you injure that part.
When I twisted my neck and I couldn’t turn it I spent days so aware of how much I needed my neck.
The same with my hand.

Even the pinkie Is missed when injured. :(

I had a thought as I was reading CoS.

Why would Uncle Vernon want to lock up Harry and ruin his chances of going “AWAY” to school? Wouldn’t he want to make sure he leaves?

Another thing that startled me was that I have seen the movie so many times, I forgot that the dessert was not dropped on the guests head, that Dobby just let it drop. The movie was funnier I guess. :/

I’m not sure that I have properly watched all of the movies. I do own them all on DVD or Blu-ray, I’m just not sure that I have actually sat down and watched them all from beginning to end. I know I have seen part to most of all of them, just not necessarily every scene in every movie in order from start to finish. Hmmmmm…. ;)

I thought Hermione slapped Draco in the movie. I know she punched him in the book. ;)

I have a question for those across the pond. It is about mens undergarments. What do you call undershirts with sleeves and without sleeves? Not with the sleeves torn out, but designed that way. Here we generally call undershirts with sleeves, t-shirts (usually considered underwear if white and unadorned and outerwear if colored or adorned with words or designs of some sort) and without sleeves they are called just undershirts (at least on the package). The sleeveless style are also colloquially known as “wife beaters” (especially if worn under an unbuttoned outer shirt or no outer shirt at all). I just wondered if “vest” meant only one style or all styles of undershirt type garments. ;)

I could not get into Leaky from work today. Did anyone else have difficulty or is it something they “enhanced” the system at work with? ;)

I need to go to bed. It is almost 3:30 in the morning and tomorrow (later today?) at work is anyone’s guess as to how busy it will be. ;)

MM, I was thinking the same think about Vernon and his seemingly insane desire to keep Harry imprisoned. Logic says he would be thrilled to get rid of him as soon as possible and as long as possible. I think the key word here is insane. I think for Vernon it has become almost a psychopathic need to torture Harry. He would rather keep Harry imprisoned and available for abuse than to get him out of the house.

DEANIE, in the movie the hand goes in for a punch, not a swipe for a slap, but the hand is not fisted if you move it very, very slowly. The fingers are still unfurled. No one could get into Leaky yesterday as is attested by our posts on our other venues.

ASTI, since Leaky is back you may not think to go to the New Castle. My daughter had me leave you a fairly lengthy message there in regard to what you posted yesterday.

I am off to pick my mother up for shopping. My parents are doing their closing on their house today. The buyer’s closing is next Tuesday.

My daughter spent the night with my parent’s last night. She took her cat with her. Our poor fifteen year old little girl cat was quite bereft last night. She howled at our door during the night. She misses her boy cat dreadfully and as it turns out she must miss the distraction of the new interloper girl cat. She appears to hate the new cat, always hissing at her, and sometimes gets into minor scuffles with her. However, last night with no other kitty in the house at all, she suffered loudly.

MM, also, with Vernon it is about power. He feels inferior to Harry and his magical power. Vernon is a bully and is afraid of the idea of not being the person in control. So, he feels empowered by keeping Harry whose hands are tied by the decree against underage wizardry under his thumb. He is controlling and abusing a wizard, a thing he not only despises, but a thing her fears as well. When Harry slips the net Vernon cannot stand the feeling of losing control over him.

I think at this point MM Vernon is still trying desperatly to squash the magic out of Harry and try and force him to be normal. I also agree with LH Vernon cannot stand when everything in his world is not perfectly under his control. Dudley seems to be an exception to the control issue, however Vernon and Petunia seem to be the “not my child, he’s a perfect little angel” type parents.

If she had already been locked up for over a month, what did they feed Hedwig? Harry gave her the veggies at the bottom of the cold soup, but owls, being predators, are carnivorous. How did she stay healthy enough to fly all the way to the Burrow with no exercise and an inadequate diet? There is no mention of owl treats or packaged owl food until later in the series.

Of course, the book does not say she flew all the way, but it also does not again mention her being inside the car until they all leave for King’s Cross. ;)

We have been open for 7 hours today and of the entire staff of 16 peple, 15 are in today. We have only had 411 calls today. Booorring! ;)

Good evening!

My DS has suggested that we go for a meal and a few hours out of the house on Friday. I think/hope this might be a good idea.

Lady Hawke, yes, I saw, and have answered. Thanks to you both. I hope all goes well with the house closing.

Deanie, I am no expert, neither my DS or Dad wears that type of under garment, but, if it designed and sold as underwear, it would be called a vest. If it had sleeves, it would be described as a “long/short sleeved vest.” A t shirt of any colour, worn as an extra layer for warmth, would still be called a t shirt.
The t shirts for women, with the little spaghetti straps, are known as “vest tops.”

never knew what a waistcoat was till I just looked up what the American term “vest” was called in the U.K.
You would think I would have known that.

I just got back from the grocery store. The groceries are in and put away. Now I am resting. Decided I would try to see if I could get in to Leaky and was able to.

I saw my grandson at Walmart. He walked with me to my car. He invited me to his house tomorrow but unless his mother does, I won’t be going. They are having a big pool party on the 14th so probably are not planning on anything big tomorrow. They are celebrating both sons graduating and the older coming in on vacation from Germany. That is why they waited to have the graduation party so the other son could be here. My oldest daughter will be coming home on vacation from North Carolina at the same time.

Lady Hawke I bought COS for my Kindel. I bought the first 3 books for the Kindel. The rest I have in hardback. They did not get destroyed like the paperback books did.

I went to the doctor today. Not very good news. I have to go on daily insulin shots. I had been hoping to avoid that. I am so sad. But when I reported that although i felt that I had ate all the right foods yet I still had a high sugar reading she felt it was best I go on insulin. The doctor explained to me that as Diabetics get older their bodies can not process any sugar. I needed to be on insulin. My last blood work showed her that too. I sadly received my first insulin shot in the doctor’s office.

I feel like crying. :(

Morning all! We have a grey overcast sky mid-morning despite having woken up to sunshine, but I don’t believe that rain is expected. Starting tomorrow we can expect sun and a noticeable rise in temperature which will round off the Wimbledon Tennis Championship nicely.

MM I’m sorry to hear about the daily insulin shots, I wouldn’t welcome that either. I do know that most manufactured food products contain sugar and it is easy to overlook this. We had spaghetti recently to which we had added a tin of Bolognese mince which my DS had added to the shopping cart. I noticed immediately that it tasted sweet rather than meaty so I was not very impressed.

A word to the wise. If you have a device that allows you to download apps I feel it my duty to warn you that crosswords are a poor investment in my experience. I have used two on my Kindle fire and find myself putting my high blood pressure at risk through sheer irritation. They seem to be written by people with a poor grasp of English grammar: the convention has always been to to give clues that will fit the answer exactly, so if the answer has to be in the plural to fit the spaces then the question has to be phrased so that you know that is what you have to supply. Oh, and the latest idiocy was failing to number a column and supply a clue! My DS had already decided that the app was rubbish a couple of weeks ago but I slogged on. Grrrrrrrrrrr!

MM I am a diabetic also and I do not look forward to having to switch to the shots. I am on the oral meds now and trying to take them when they will be ok with the other meds I take can be a bother. As my DS says “it does beat the alternative”, seems she wants me around a while longer. That said, we all want you around a lot longer,

If it doesn’t come a big rain, I am going to my daughters for a cook out. It has been raining off and on all day so there will be no swimming in the pool. I got some corn on the cob so I will be taking that. I got more than I would have for myself just in case I went to one of my daughters for a cookout.

I decided I would wear white shorts or capris. I must be bloated today because everyone but one pair just felt too tight at the waist. Maybe wearing all those low riders skinny jeans are bad for wearing something that fits at your waist. Lol
