CoolG you had me laughing out loud with your comment. It reminded me of the picture you used as an avatar of the girl holding two cantaloupes. LOLOL

LadyHawke – my comment that you didn’t post, posted numerously. :D

I went out with my sisters and had a great time. We had breakfast and shopping. It was a great start to my summer!

Asti I realised after I had posted that I hadn’t answered your question about going to Stonehenge for the solstice. Way back in 1974 when BigG was only two, we traveled south to visit my sister in Wilts then on to my sister-in-law in West Sussex via Stonehenge. We had a new motorcaravan, bought with money from my parent’s estate so we slept in the van and didn’t cause too much upheaval in their homes. I visited as a tourist before the surge in New Age thinking and all the barbed wire nonsense and it was the morning after the solstice and only a handful of people were there. It was very special simply because Stonehenge is that kind of place, ancient and awesome, and I couldn’t improve on that experience even though intellectually I am now so different. That was my moment, like Wordsworth’s daffodils, to be treasured in memory in quiet moments.

I am busy prepping anything I can before we head to my parent’s apartment for birthday/Father’s Day. We are having the tempura fried oysters which I will cook there. So, I have to have my electric skillet, electrical cord and lid. I also have to take the oil. Other than the oysters we are having slaw, potato salad, deviled eggs, a cranberry salad, blue cheese stuffed green olives and black olives. All the salads have been made ahead of time.

I have made up the tempura batter except for the eggs and club soda.

Tomorrow my daughter and I are taking a friend with us to see the matinee performance of The Color Purple at our local professional theatre.

GRAYMAYNE, I saw Stonehenge in 1987, By then there were barriers and people had to keep to the paths.

I’m packed but I’m sure I will have forgotten something. I have my electric skillet, cooking tongs, and whisk, even my own colander. This is in an attempt to not go mess my mother’s kitchen implements up.

The oysters, salads, eggs and olives are in a insulated case with freezer blocks. The club soda is in a separate insulated bag with freezer blocks.

My son came by today. He wanted to look at his baby pictures and take some with him. We dug up a portrait thatnImhad of him and his sister. When we saw it our jaws dropped. My grandson looks just like him. :D

I knew he looked like my son but this mirror image is amazing. My grandson is only 6 weeks old and my son is about 5 months old in the portrait but you can see them. Those of you with Facebook can go see. :)

Got back earlier than planned. I smell like redwood stain.
Time for a good scrub.

Good evening!

My DS has just gone to get my daughter from a party. They’ve all been swimming, then back to the birthday girls house for something to eat. She has been so excited all afternoon. I had to send her off with a damp swimming costume after her lesson this morning!

MM, something similar happened to me when son was small. I came across a photo of 16 year old me cuddling my newborn cousin, and son was the very image of him. As he’s grown, there are still many similarities with my cousin, though son looks so very like his Dad. It’s a funny thing!

Lady Hawke, good luck! I hope you all have a lovely day.

Graymayne, what a lovely memory to have. It is certainly a very atmospheric place, and I would give a LOT to see it without all those fences.

Lady Hawke wouldn’t it have been easier to have this dinner at your house? ;)

Oops! The laundry lion is roaring. I suppose I should do at least 2 loads today. I will need unmentionables tomorrow and slacks to wear to work all week. I think I will do the blue slacks and either the black or tan ones. That comes ou to 3 or 4 loads. I’ll do the extra one(s) tomorrow. ;)

My printer has an error message and will not allow me to turn it off. I have unplugged it from the power and from the data cord. Now I will turn off the computer, re-plug the printer and then turn the computer back on. I hope that will reset everything and get rid of the problem. ;)

My house is still not functional. If you will remember we were off to a funeral the week after my parents moved. Then, we were off to another funeral less than two weeks later. We were home for three weekends and made progress but then we have been gone the last two weekends to more funerals. My DS did not work on the transition while we were gone. Today we focused on Father’s Day and birthday and tomorrow we have theatre tickets. So, it is a slow process and I still have a daybed in my dining room. On top of it all with the funerals coming right on the heels of the move and now the whole cataract thing and all those appointments I am tired. This will get done but I am overwhelmed at the moment.

ASTI, once again our common language causes surprise. I don’t believe in the US we have used the term swimming costume since the turn of the twentieth century. Here we used the term swim suits. I’m glad your daughter had a good day.

If you look at photographs of my mother, myself and my daughter at the same age you can see the apple does not fall far from the tree. My daughter looks very like my mother. The strange thing is when I look at her next to her other grandmother I can see elements that make me realize she looks just like my DS and his mother as well. She is a fusion of parts so that she looks like whichever side of the family next to whom she is sitting.

Lady Hawke: I thought I was going to a friends house to do some refinishing work on a wardrobe
but his wife had another idea. We did some staining on a deck rail instead.

Hello folks… Good news on 2 fronts. Firstly, I saw my Maxillofacial surgeon today & he unwired my lower jaw. I now can supplement my Ensure liquid “meals” with pureed baby food… Oh joy of joys! Second, Sally is going to visit here for the week of the 4th of July… Needless to say I was struck speechless when she suggested it. She has never seen this place. I wonder how she will react to it. It is 1/3 the size of my old place.

IRONSOS, after you posted Leaky was back at the new Castle it has been a terrible struggle to get back in here. I guess I made at least ten efforts which timed out before I got in and when I got in the formatting was wrong, the left half of the page was off screen and there were no avatars and the text looked funny. I finally managed to access a normal looking page. It was worth it to see your announcement here that Leaky was back on.

WON, I don’t know what I am more excited about, you getting your jaw unwired or SALLY coming to visit. If she has any trepidation left over her looks after her ordeal what has happened to you should more than even things out. Obviously, she is well aware of the circumstances that necessitated the downsizing in your living arrangements. I’m sure she will be understanding. We all hope this visit goes well.

Hurray for pureed baby food. You can doctor it up a bit with powdered spices or even just salt and pepper. Sally is not coming to visit your house and I doubt the size of it will insult her. She is coming to see and check on you. ;)

Besides, your last place was really too large to maintain with your health issues. I am sure this house is much more manageable and more practical for daily life. ;)

The following is a day late because of the downtime.

Won_Two That is good news!! With regard to the last sentence, I would hope that the events of the last few months will have brought about some changes of attitude. It is not the size of the property that is the measure of a man but the quality of his mind and heart.

Lady Hawke Family resemblance can sometimes be difficult to spot. My youngest neice didn’t look like anyone in the immediate family but I came across a young woman in a shop in my locality who could have been her sister. I was quite taken aback.

Ironsos I trust you returned home without a stain on your character, lol.

Good evening!

Son had his very last exam today! It is over. Just Results Day to worry about now, at the end of August. And the end of an era. He will NEVER wear his school uniform again.

Won, that is lovely news. I am glad to hear it, and hope the two of you can continue to build bridges.

ASTI, did he come in stripping the uniform off much more quickly than you were ready? Did you want to tell him to leave it on just a bit longer? Congratulations to him that it is finished. I hope he can enjoy his summer now.

My daughter and I watched REBECCA while folding laundry. It has been nice to have a quiet day at home.

My thoughts about Sally’s reaction to my new home are rooted in her assessment of my previous digs. She once referred to the place as a “quaint country retreat”… 11 acres & a 2 story 14 room house with a finished basement & 2 large out buildings. Quaint… looool. :+/

Quaint is a compliment compared to some of the places I remember from Belgium. Of course we left Belgium in 1957 and I was rather small, but I know at least 2 of our near neighbors still had outhouses. We only had a flush toilet (in it’s own room in the front hall, not in the bathroom upstairs) because our landlord was a wealthy lawyer. The bathroom had a tub, sink and bidet (swanky). ;)

Lady Hawke, he was still in his shirt and tie when I got home from work. I was astonished! I thought he’d be shedding items as he walked home, lol. I don’t think it had dawned on him that today was the last time ever.

Who else is going to this year’s Leaky Con?

PB AND FELIPE………..PLEASE GIVE US LOTS OF UDPATES AND PICTURES! AND HAVE FUN!!!!! xxx

Won, “country retreat” sounds pretty grand!

Won Glad to hear of your improvement. Since Sally has been thru her own …..troubles….. her outlook has probably changed from several years ago. So glad she is going to meet up with you again.

I did not realize this was the time for Leaky Con until I read both Potterboy and Felipe’s post about being at the airport. I hope they all have fun getting together again.

It can not make up it’s mind whether it wants to storm or have the sun shine. I think I meant to go to town today but I guess I will just wait until tomorrow.

I had to run the dog off the couch again today. All in all they have not been too bad about it.

I need to cook something. Do I want to make a meal or just fix something quick? I think I may fix some hot dogs. Lol

Won_Two LOL! In that case you should prepare yourself for “bijou”.

Asti I take it that the sixth form don’t wear uniform. I find that a bit strange. I am obviously totally out of date.

PS/SS Did anyone notice that two of the protective spell chambers showed prior use, keys and unconscious troll, and three did not, Devil’s Snare, chess board and potions? Theories anyone?
