I remember the good old days when we changed avatars to go to parties, to cheerlead at football games, my fondest memory was when I challenged Mistic to a sluttier dress challenge and she posted an avatar with a see through dress and a thong. I nearly fell over laughing.

Remember the “momokini”? “SlutsRUs”? “the Hoff”?? “Beastie?”

We have such a long history. I miss that so much. :(

Just lourking. ;)

Bought a new TV today, may actually unpack it tomorrow. ;)

My old TV in the living room sort of “deres-es” along the top 2 or 3 inches. It does not pixilate, it actually looks like half the lines do not register. Repair to the crt TV would cost more than the new one we bought at a sale. ;)

Deanie: I got my new, same size TV for half what I paid for the old(7 years) one and it weighs half as much.
They have really come down in price.

Ironsos, My elves left entirely. I have nothing to click. I can’t upload any to leaky. They were there until I tried to change them.

Morning

My brother did make it in time for the Indy 500 Race. He lives close to Indy so it was blacked out. He came down to watch it with me. The roast and the rest of the meal was a success. Later I went to Jennifer’s for a little while. She has been working outside with her daughter. Reminds me of how we use to spend the holidays working on the yard. I brought the bottom of a bed home with me. She is keeping my trundel bed but giving me her twin bed in place. After I purchase a new mattress, this will be a spare bed for company. Before I put it together, I will put down the new carpet in the bedroom. I didn’t put it down yet because I did not want to take my bed apart.

MM That is why I had so many email accounts. To keep my identy secret when I was playing a part of a man for our dances. I knew I couldn’t change my avatar on the same account because it would change on everything I had posted. It gave me a use for all the emails accounts I would never had used otherwise. If we still used Gravatar I would have to change my email address since I no longer have all the extra ones that came with Verizon. Lol

Speaking of emails, I see that Hotmail (I have had since they started it at least 15 years) is changing to something else. This is a problem for me since I have used it for everything. I have not changed over yet because once you do, you can no longer use your hotmail account. I will probably wait until they change it over for me. I hate the thought of changing it on so many internet accounts.

COOLG, I assumed we would have it here, unless Leaky goes poo and then we would move over to the New Castle. I think everyone involved can get into those two locations.

My DS made pancakes for breakfast this morning. At 1 PM we are picking up his mother and some fried chicken from a drive through and heading to my parent’s apartment to play games.

My daughter’s new cat is a horrible klutz. I think she was meant to belong to WOLFIE. I never saw such a physically awkward cat. When she runs she scuttles or hops like a bunny. She has a tendency to run into things; this morning she barely missed running headlong into the support under the dining room table. She has an unfortunate tendency to fall off the back of the couch or recliner. When she tries to jump up onto furniture sometimes she doesn’t make it and clings to the edge of the surface as her body weight drags her back down to the ground. A few minutes ago she leapt from the floor to the arm of the couch trying to get into my daughter’s lap and managed to knock over a glass of ice water on her way. She is sitting here now trying to clean herself up and save her dignity.

Good Morning. Memorial Day what is everyone doing?

The DS has worked on the backyard. Yesterday we went to see my grandson and my son grilled for us.
Today I think we are going to go to the movies and enjoy some dinner out. I slept late. It has been a lazy morning. :)

Good evening!

Today is a Bank Holiday here. My DS and I went for a LONG LONG LONG walk in the forest. I threw together a picnic lunch, which we ate in the sunshine, the trees shielding us from most of a chilly wind. When we got home, we sat in the garden, drinking Pimm’s and lemonade, with mint, orange, apple and strawberries, which felt very civilised!

I miss Old Leaky too!!

MM, how is your Grandson doing? And how are the new parents?

FreeElf, it is good to see you!

Lady Hawke, I love it when cats try so hard to keep their dignity! So funny!

Today’s weather was a disappointment after the warmth of the last two days. We tend not to go out at Bank holidays because the traffic can be dreadful, and my DS doesn’t like being in crowds.

Tomorrow my DS goes to the Cardiothorasic Department of our nearest city so the investigation continues. He is familar with this place, it’s where he had his radiotherapy treatment for prostate cancer ten years ago, and I have be an in-patient there on three occasions. He is still feeling discomfort in his back and chest.

Why did you have a Bank Holiday today? Our holiday was Memorial Day, in honor of all those who have given their lives in military service to this country. It is a bit of a somber holiday but more casually it marks the beginning of the summer vacation season and is usually spent barbecuing.

We have eaten chicken, played games and now we are home.

Later we may have cheese and apples for a snack/dinner. We ate about 2 PM and now it is 8 PM. If we go to bed without eating anything at all we will probably wake up hungry later and I have never been one to get up out of bed in search of food.

ASTI, it sounds as if you had a pleasant, productive day.

MM, I’m glad you were able to spend this holiday with your grandson since you missed Mother’s Day. How many more weeks of school do you have before the children are gone?

Lady Hawke The 1970’s brought three changes to Bank Holidays in the U.K. In l971 the government decided to reduce the confusion of moveable holidays, Easter and Whitsuntide, by one. We still have the moveable Easter, but Whitsuntide (celebrating the Ascension), was exchanged for a fixed (Spring) Bank Holiday on the last Monday in May, which is the one you queried. In l974 we gained a new Bank Holiday, New Year’s Day, mostly due to unofficial days off due to excessive celebration of the New Year I suspect. Finally, in l978 we fell in line with the rest of Europe by observing May Day, fixed as the first Monday in May. This seems to be because of our membership of the European Union. Those of us who grew up before these changes still have some difficulty remembering the May holidays because they weren’t part of our childhood. Our War Dead are remembered officially on the Sunday nearest to November 11th with a huge parade in London attended by the Sovereign and members of the Royal Family, and locally by parades attended by the Mayor or Lord Mayor. All of these parades observe a one minute silence at 11.0am.

Now I need to go and make my toast and try not to get crumbs in the computer keyboard, lol.

Morning

I spent yesterday by myself. I spent it reading. I fell asleep watching TV and did not wake up until this morning. I hardly ever sleep thru the night. The dogs spent the night on the porch. They never barked to come in. They have been sleeping ever since I let them back in this morning. I have just finished going over the free ebooks from yesterday. Unfortunately not all of them are still free.

I have just bout decided not to go to the wedding this weekend. I need to buy 2 new tires for my truck before I drive it out of town. So until I pay the dues and taxes, I have to wait to buy the tires. Always something to pay for before I can do other things. I had actually forgotten that I should get new tires. I remember that I went to have the front tires checked out a couple of years ago because the front tire kept loosing air. They said nothing was wrong with it. When it went flat again, my son-in-law gave them a good talking to. It seems this tire was dry rotted and they did not see it. They gave me another tire to replace it at no charge. This was from a company where we had bought our tires for 30 years. Anyway, I meant to buy two new tires then but sort of forgot about it until now. I probably need to have it serviced too. I don’t think I have put many miles on it since it was serviced last but it has been awhile.

Graymayne November 11th is celebrated here as Veteran’s Day and honors our still living veterans. In late May we honor the war dead from all our wars, including the one that parted us from England.

Earlier in May we have Armed Forces Day, supposedly to recognize those currently serving. Most US citizens aren’t even aware of Armed Forces Day. Usually military installations throw the gates open to the public and display various pieces of equipment. They sometimes give rides on some of the equipment and there are usually food booths sponsored by schools, civic groups or the teen club. Having been raised on various military istallations, I remember a lot of fun times on Armed Forces Day. ;)

My Daughters of the American Revolution chapter goes to the WWI memorial in a local park and places flowers on November 11 at 11 AM. My great uncles’s name is on the monument. We called November 11 Armistice Day until after WWII when it became Veteran’s Day. We already had Memorial Day on the last Monday in May to commemorate the Civil War Dead so Memorial Day became the day to commemorate the war dead from all American wars and Armistice Day/Veteran’s Day became the day to commemorate the veterans from all American wars, living or dead.

GRAYMAYNE, we have only added one Monday holiday in my life in 1986, Martin Luther King Day, observed on the third Monday in January. I would have a difficult time remembering it if I didn’t have a child in school. For the most part it is only actively observed by schools and government offices. Otherwise life goes on as usual for everyone else. In Mississippi it is also celebrated as the Robert E. Lee holiday; his birthday fell within days of MLK’s.

In 1971 they changed Washington’s Birthday from February 22 to the third Monday in February and called it President’s Day. So, it became a fixed day on the calendar instead of a movable holiday. Both Washington and Lincoln, two of our better known presidents, were born in February. When I was a child there were many school projects and art work designed to teach children about Washington and Lincoln during February. By the time my daughter came along and the long term adoption of the holiday as Presidents Day there were no longer any little art projects for her to bring home to me to show they had learned about Washington and Lincoln specifically.

FREE ELF, I found this sitting in a posting window from three days ago. You asked about LEMON’s anniversary and how her
writing was going and I started to answer and appear to have abandoned it.

FREE ELF, I have no idea what the HEADMISTRESS Anniversary thing is about at CC. I think it is just an announcement about how long she has been posting there. She has not been here in over a year. Those of us who keep up with her do it through private emails and a little on Facebook. She is so busy trying to write that she doesn’t take much time to hang out online anymore. I don’t even think she gets to read much that is not directly related to her writing pursuits. She reads and reviews books that are being published online by her writing group friends. She did reread HP back in February to give herself a break but I don’t remember the last time she read a new book just because she wanted to read one. It may have been the first of The Hunger Games books just before the movie came out.

She has several ebooks available on Amazon but her big book is still in progress. She belongs to several writers groups and sometimes gets sucked into acting as officer for them, running conferences, etc.

Good evening!

It has rained constantly and heavily all day. My poor son had a big golf competition, and suffered badly. He didn’t play well, and was still shivering when I got home from work. I just HOPE he doesn’t have any ill effects…… It is half term here, but his exams start up again on Monday.

My lovely boss let me swap shifts, so I can go and see my author discuss her new book tomorrow. I don’t really know what to expect, I have never been to anything like this before. There are few details in the festival programme. I am hoping my sister and I can go for something to eat afterwards…..I am waiting for her to ring me.

Graymayne, how did your DS get on at the hospital?
