Asti No comment was made about my angina symptoms, possibly because it is on record that I have had a heart attack back in 2001, which was discovered nine years later on a read-out from an ECG. I was then duly issued with the standard “under the tongue” spray, and aspirin to take daily.

Lady Hawke My DS and I both lost a niece each to brain tumours in their mid-thirties. It is a deeply painful experience because it seems so unfair to lose young intelligent women in such a way. Age does not appear to be of any relevance to the Grim Reaper.

Asti I’ve just remembered. I was browsing through Apps on my Kindle Fire today and looked at the Lifestyle category. There are things on there that I feel you would not wish your daughter to view:) I was a bit shaken.

A happy footnote! The day we went out to lunch I noticed that a lot of trees were in blossom, it seems to have happened almost overnight. The wayside flowers are a little behind but the general effect is of Nature being in a festive mood after a long, cold start to Spring.

Goodness I had 4 pages to read. I did not even notice that I had not been on. I have lost a few phone calls and text that just showed up on my phone. I think I did not hear the phone ring since I was probably in the back of the house. I have been cleaning so when I need to rest I have just been reading.

I had about 6 different text from my daughter and her husband. They were from this morning so I don’t know why I did not get them until later. It seems I am to go to their house for breakfast on Mother’s day. Breakfast because they will be at his mother’s for supper. This will be nice. Money is tight this year so I was not expecting any flowers or a card.

I will have to remember to get gas. I meant to stop for gas when I went to get my meds but when I came out of the store, it was starting to rain so I hurried home. You never know if my wipers will work. There is a short somewhere so if I hit a bump or hole, sometimes they do not work.

Those little bitty ants were all over my sink this morning. So I had to spray them with bleach water again. I just got the last bunch cleaned up yesterday. Maybe I should have left them to warn others not to come around.

I was looking for a new battery operated drill on the internet. My Dewalt battery is just about shot. Trouble is, I can not afford to buy a new one so I was looking at a Black and Decker. I realized that I had one and the battery charger had been found for it. So I was busy looking for the battery charger. I found the drill and several batteries for it. When I found the charger I hooked up two batteries. Later I tried one out and it worked. I need to try the other batteries to see if they took charge. At least now I can make the door frame for the bi fold door to the hallway. I am gradually getting things to work. I also want to build a wall in the mud room for next winter. I am trying to keep the electric bill down by cutting off half of the mud room in the winter time.

I need to mow the lawn again fut it just looks like rain. I guess I will wait until Monday.

I heard from Mistic Willow. She is doing ok but is thinking about quitting her job at Walmart. She was just working to get enough credits to be able to draw SS. She has finally done that so can quit any thime she wants to. So if they don’t reduce her hours, she may just do that.

Lady Hawke I can sympathize with the shock of losing relatives in your age bracket. It comes as a shock even though it shouldn’t. I have worried about you since most of your family seems to be in an older age bracket. I think I told you I only have one aunt left. Most of my mother’s family lived into their 80’s. She did not but most of her brother’s did as well as one of her sisters. My older brothers all have the same health problems that I do. They were fortunate and did not have a stroke because they only had sugar problems and did not get blood pressure problems until later. Santa is on diaylis and has been for a while. I am very worried about him. My youngest brother decided that he better get healtheir before he has the same problems the rest of us do. He lost a lot of weight and is now running in marathons. Beth is now running in marathons too. Jennifer is running in one next month with Beth. I am glad. It is hard to remember but two of my daughters are in their 40’s now.

The cousin’s daughter who passed away turns out to be the one who was six weeks older than myself. Yesterday I didn’t know which on it was but now I’ve seen the obituarly online. My mother has not managed to speak to my cousin and his wife yet so we still don’t know the circumstances. The funeral is tomorrow and my mother is going to talk to my father and determine if he feels like making the trip. If so, I may well end up spending my day packing for an unexpected overnight trip.

GRAYMAYNE, our spring flowers and flowering trees came late and didn’t last long. Even with the unseasonably cold temperatures our trees are now summer green with no leftover flowers.

Forgot to post this. It has been sitting here about three hours. I don’t know if we are going to the funeral at all. My father is having some issues this morning and may not feel like getting in the car. We are waiting to see if the issue will resolve itself. In the meantime I’ve spent an hour looking for a hotel and making reservations which I may have to cancel. I’ve also made some chicken, mushroom, onion, garlic and pesto pasta sauce. We will have it for dinner tonight, tomorrow night or Sunday, depending on when we are home.

That is too strange. I came back and found the first two paragraphs of those two previous posts still sitting in the post window so I thought I had not posted it.

So, I added more to it and hit post again. It turns out it did post the first time but it remained in the post window as well.

I don’t think that has ever happened. As DEANIE noted I managed to splinch my post on either side of another one. I am getting really creative.

COOLG, we are having torrential rain here. It rains about 1.5 inches (3.81 C) during the night and it is coming down so hard I can feel the house shaking. We are under a Flash Flood Warning.

If we do end up driving today I hope this passes and we don’t catch up with it driving east.

I saw somewhere that MISTIC was unhappy at Walmart, that they were demanding she work more hours than she had intended and at times she did not want to be there. So, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if she quit if she has the quarters she needs to get her Social Security check.

I don’t get a lot of phone calls anymore so I do not expect them. To my surprise I got a phone call that only buzzed and did not ring. It was my younger brother who has been calling me for a couple of days. Since my phone did not ring I checked to see if I had any missed calls. My younger daughter had called me 9 times from last night to this morning. She hardly ever calls me but text so for her to have called me 9 times something was wrong. I did have about 6 text show up between her and her husband this morning but I did not hear any notification that I was getting a text. She thought I was in bed when she called last night but was getting a lot worried this morning when I did not answer the phone or her text.

When Jennifer stopped by she said that she had called and texted her. She wanted her to check on me when she got off after work. She then called her back and said she had heard from me. I did text her this morning when I found the test. She did not say she had called me 9 times or that she had been worried about me since I had not answered anything.

I went into the phone stuff to see if I could see if anything was wrong. I changed my phone ring and text notification and made sure the ringer was on high. When Jennifer came by I had her call me. It did not ring. I finally told her to check the side of my phone. There was a button that I did not know what it did. It turns out to be a silencer. It silence everything. I must have turned it off when I was taking my phone out of it’s holder. So now my phone is working again. I had just noticed the button on the side of my phone that was smaller and different from the other buttons that I use to turn the volume up or down.

While Jennifer was here I remembered to ask her to help me get the cloth rope thing out from under my lawn mower. I had got it out but where it was stuck on the side of the under carriage. She really had to pull to get it out where it was stuck on the side. Now I will be able to mow my lawn again when it isn’t raining.

Joe Gibbs Racing has the first 4 position for the Nationwide Race tonight. Kyle Bush has the first place. It should be an interesting race tonigh on ESPN. It is almost time for qualifying for Sprint Cup on Speed.

Good Morning Everybody!!!! We have had some thunderstorms here this morning, and I hope they are done!!!!
I am wishing ALL Mother’s here to have a Wonderful and Fabulous Mother’s Day!!!! I am going to visit my father tomorrow in LaPlata Maryland, and I am glad that I am off work!!!! My daughter came down last weekend with my Grandson Tylor who is now 7 months old!!! WOW!!! time has flown!!!!! I will probably not be working at Walmart after June because I have earned the rest of my Quarters and can now stay at home totally!!!! yeah!!!! which will give me lots of time to come here!!!!! I am 5pm to 12am tonight which means I won’t get home until 1am for sure!!!! sometimes I have to be there at 5:30am so my hours are a bit unusual for sure!! not to mention about 34 hours a week for just being part-time and even full time people have a hard time getting 32 hours of which they are suppose to be garanteed so why give a part-time person 34 or 36 especially if they don’t want that many hours? Don’t ASk me I just work there!!!! I love all of you and miss you very much so God Bless each and every one of you!!!!!

Wow Cool G, I am glad that you got it out I ran over a rubber mat one day that was lying nicely on my side walk and it got caught up in the blade and really made a mess and I had to get it unwrapped from around the blades under the lawn mower needles to say there wasn’t much left of the mat after that and I threw it away!!!! the reason Ihad a mat there to start with there was the cement was cracked there and I had it repaired and painted over it, so the mat just look nicer over it, and I did not think that the lawn mower would suck it up like a vacuum but it did and shreded it also!!!! Yes I learned my lesson and now that place on my sidewalk is just a darker shade of Grey!!!! but I am going to just let it be!!! lol

Well I went from not knowing what was happening for Mother’s day to having a full day planned. I am going for brunch at my youngest daughter’s house. Later my granddaughter is picking me up and we are going to Olive Garden at Greenwood. I think we are meeting Jennifer’s boyfriend there.

I was told not to do anything today so I will enjoy tomorrow.

Hi Mistic. You did make it over here.

Mr. Deanie What kind of trouble are you having getting on here?

I think I told you I changed my phone’s ringtone yesterday. Today I remembered what song it was……Bad To The Bone. It only plays a little of it so I am surprised I remembered what the name of it was. I only knew I liked it. Lol

Happy Mother’s Day to all the lovely Leaky ladies!

I know that I’m a day early but I will be super busy tomorrow. I have three soccer games before 12:00pm and then I’m going to my son’s house for a barbque. I get to hold my grandson on Mother’s Day!!! He is so cuddly and beautiful. My son invited us and his in-laws. We are all bringing the extras and he is just barbquing.

Yesterday my daughter and her BF took us to the Casino buffet. My husband had not been there been there and he loved it. The prime rib was outstanding. Afterwards we gambled of course. It was a very enjoyable.

LadyHawke – how awful for your cousin’s family. It brought memories for me of that one teacher who never woke up, didn’t show up to work and police had to do a check. She was found dead in her bed.

Cool G – it always amazes me how much you do and accomplish. :)
you deserve all your treats tomorrow. :D

Good evening!

We have had a busy and somewhat unplanned day. My DS took the car for it’s service, (it’s way overdue, but we couldn’t afford to do it until the settlement money came through.) He had about 3 hours to wait for it, so I went to keep him company. To our surprise, we found a street market full of stalls selling both local and continental food and drink. It was great fun to poke around! We bought some handmade macaroons, some bread and cakes and a punnet of picked-that-morning strawberries. Which I demolished quite quickly! We were very tempted by all the cheeses and meats, but were worried about them being out of refrigeration for so long.

And talking of fridges………my fridge-freezer has been on it’s way out for a long while; it’s been limping along for the last few years. We still had a bit of time before the car was ready, so we popped into a showroom to get an idea of prices. Well, we ended up buying one! My DS was very taken by the huge American ones with the double doors and ice water dispensers, but they are too expensive and our kitchen is not big enough, lol! The one we bought is slightly bigger than the one we have now, was £499 reduced to £329, and best of all, it is FROST FREE!!!!!! Never again will I have to spend a morning on my knees in a puddle, bashing away at lumps of built up frost with a wooden spoon!!!!!!

So, knowing we are getting a new fridge-freezer in a fortnight somehow led to a plan to repaint the kitchen. My DS painted the ceiling this afternoon whilst I cooked around him, and tomorrow we’re painting the walls. We are risking it a little bit in just buying the paint without using a tester first to see if we like the colour, but heyho! The walls are pale green at the moment, and we’ve gone for a similar colour, but a slightly more muted shade. I am excited about my new kitchen!

AND, when we got home, I saw on facebook that my young cousin and her BF have just got engaged! Lovely news!

Lady Hawke, whether or not you went to the funeral, I hope you and your parents are ok.

Graymayne, thanks for the warning.

Just when it was almost too late to leave with any hope of arriving in time to attend any of the visitation last night my father went back and started packing. So, there I was, having just taken a shower with my hair wet, trying to throw a suitcase together.

My DS called to find out what was going on and I told him the decision to go had just been made and he told me he would pick our daughter up. So, I unpacked the things I had packed for her, threw my own clothes on and left the house with wet, uncombed hair with no makeup.

I was one of those awful women you see at stop lights putting their makeup on in the visor mirror. I just combed my hair and let it air dry.

When I reached my parent’s apartment I grabbed their suitcases, put them and my parents in the car and took off.

Unfortunately, my directions printed from Google Maps were not the best in terms of description for a person driving at night in a strange city in the rain. I ended up misinterpreting and instruction and turned the wrong direction on the right street and wasted a lot of time going the wrong direction for an unreasonable length of time and then turning around and driving back all that distance and then some to reach my destination. We had hoped for 30 minutes at the visitation and arrived 3 minutes late. Fortunately, the family was still there and we were taken home to their house to eat some of the extensive quantity and types of food left for them by friends. We were with them for two hours and then headed back to check in to our hotel.

The morning visitation began at 10 AM with the service following at 11 AM. It was a memorial service instead of a funeral. There was an empty urn because the body is still being autopsied and has not yet been cremated.

There were many many poster boards filled with snapshots of her throughout her life with various family members and friends. In the chapel they were running a montage film with music and photos. Her sister and her niece both delivered personal eulogies. We were invited to join the family at their church for lunch.

We were the only family members in attendance who were not immediate and not local. My mother was the only representative of the oldest generation of the family. She is the only one left. Her nephew, the girl’s uncle, is one year older but he is from my generation. I was having to introduce myself to first cousins, twice removed, who I had never met as “your grandfather’s baby cousin”.

After lunch we drove straight home with no stops. I am tired and my knees hurt from two 3.5 hour trips in two days with no breaks in the drives either direction.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to those of us in the US who are mothers and HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY from the US to those in the UK who are mothers, even if you aren’t celebrating today.

We aren’t going to try to take the grandmothers out until next week. The elder generation is not up to waiting in line for a table.

Mother’s Day or not, I have lots of laundry to do this afternoon. We will pay a short visit to the grandparents and distribute Mother’s Day cards.

My daughter came in very soon after I came into the living room this morning. She had a card for me which she was anxious to give me.

It had a very simple verse, "Having you for a mom has taught me a lot about self-worth, self-respect… (open card)

and self preservation. Happy Mother’s Day! Need anything?

It is a musical card and plays “When You Are Good To Mama” from the musical Chicago.

If you are not familiar with the song,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy6j2LUyh24

My daughter said when she found the card, opened it and decided it was the one, another person in the card aisle asked her if she really thought she wanted that one. She told them it was an inside joke between her and her mother and we sing it together in the car.

This is unfortunately the case. We both have a strange preference for the inappropriate songs and characters in Broadway musicals. It all started when I was five years old and saw Man of La Mancha. To my mother’s mortification the song I came out of the performance singing was “One Pair Of Arms Is Like Another”. Upon seeing Les Miserables the song my daughter focused on was “Master of the House”. From Chicago the songs she remembers best are “He Had It Coming” and “When You Are Good To Mama”. From Sweeney Todd it is “Have A Little Priest”.

I think we like these inappropriate songs and characters because they are so far removed from our real life personas.

When I opened the card that horrible song actually made me cry. My daughter and I “get” each other.

ASTI, I meant to comment about your new refrigerator/freezer. Weeee!!!! I just wish you had been able to fit a big American model into your kitchen. You would not have known how you lived without it in less than a week. Frost free freezers are great. I remember my parents defrosting their huge freezer when I was a child. The freezer was over 6ft (1.83 m) tall. They would have to defrost it when the ice built up so the door would not shut. It was catastrophic if the power went off or the freezer failed. Melt ice/water would be everywhere. They eventually replaced it with a frost free which is so much nicer. Yay!!! for the repainting project. At least your living room is still fresh so the improvements won’t have to bleed from the kitchen into the living room.

Aloha! ;)

WorkLurk. ;)

I am now crocheting a small afghan/lap throw. I am surprised that I can still crochet. Tehe arthritis in my hands is much more pronounced than it was the last time I picked up a hook. This is going much faster than projects used to go. Maybe it’s because I can no longer really clinch down on the hook, so I hold it much more loosely. I used to hold so tight that I rubbed blisters on my finger and had too much tension on the yarn.

One of my co-workers asked me for crochet lessons this morning. I need to find some good clear illustrations with simple instructions. I have a set at home, but I’m not certain where it is. If the book is on the bottom shelf of the bookcase, I will have to move furniture to get to it. ;)

Lady hawke We will not be going west this year after all. We will be going twice next year. Once to scout for a temporary rental property and then to actually move. ;)

That is true, DEANIE, elderly women are not forces of nature of inherent destruction other portions of the population may be.

I’ve persisted with laundry. Unfortunately, the next load needs to be my daughter’s things and she went directly to her room after school for a nap. She said it was a hard day crammed full of panic preparations for the tests this week. I suppose I’ll wait and start on her things tomorrow after she is at school. I am about ready to stop anyway after I fold some of my DS’s things.
