LadyHawke: There is a slide show that views when you open the page. I think this is
the video.

For my walk today I am going up to the State Capitol Bldg. By up I mean a rise of 1060ft(323.09m)
in 3.5 blocks. Now that’s an incline. Blocks here are quite long, 730ft(222.5m) But it is still one heck
of a rise.

Oh, and I’m cooking today to have some food prepared for the weekend. Doesn’t that sound more normal?

I am making a chili relleno casserole of my own devising, meaning I am not using a recipe. I have a seasoned ground turkey, onion, tomatoes mixture cooking now. I also have some chilis in the oven under the broiler blackening their skins. Once their skins are black I will put them in a gallon size freezer bag to sweat the skins off. I’m not going to try to keep the chilis together to stuff them. Instead I am going to layer strips of them with the meat mixture, cheese and enchilada sauce, sort of like a Mexican lasagna. I’ll serve it over yellow Spanish rice on Saturday night.

I wanted something for dinner to be prepared ahead of time. We need to do some serious work here on the house to move these items we brought from my parents house to their new places. I don’t want to have to cook after I am tired on Saturday evening.

We had our end of the year meeting at our daughter’s school this morning. As you know she has a diagnosis for Aspergers Syndrome. Aspergers as a term/diagnosis is being discontinued this month and they are changing the diagnosis to Autism, not just for my daughter but for everyone. My daughter was actually happy with the Aspergers diagnosis but is not thrilled with the Autism label. She knows people who are much lower functioning and she does not want to be confused with someone with that sort of involvement. She has as little Autism as someone can have, just barely.

She has been followed by the speech therapist for the last couple of years without having actual therapy. The next step was to dismiss her from any speech therapy services at all. She is considered “finished” with that.

So, the only services she will have from now on is additional time if needed for testing. In most subjects she is able to finish before most of the other students. They will continue to work on the legibility of her handwriting and her organizational skills. They will also continue to work on her skills in conversational speech, how to give other people a chance to talk and when she has talked enough.

Otherwise, we were told how fabulous and marvelous she is. Even though she has difficulty keeping her own binder organized she has undertaken the massive job of reorganizing her English teacher’s in room library. She has organized them by genre and then alphabetically by author, several bookcases full.

They said she is generally well liked and respected by the other students. She is seen as a leader to whom other students can go to ask questions and be given guidance. It is generally accepted that if you need to know something my daughter will be able to provide the answer. She is seen as a serious student and other pay attention to her and defer to her knowledge and expertise. Even the teachers told us they have learned from her this year.

They noted her creative skills in writing and art, even mentioned her extravagant costumes which she wore to school during Spirit week.

They see her on track to go straight through high school and onto college and graduate school, finally ending up as a professor at a university.

They ended by telling us how much they loved, loved, loved her.

They told us one thing that made me laugh. They did an evaluation to see what her learning type was. She came out as a kinesthetic and tactile learner. She learns best from hands on experience, jumping in and seeing how something is done. It seems those people are often good dancers. This made me laugh. My daughter went through the drama club audition worshop yesterday after school and she might as well have had five left feet. It was the same this last summer when she did summer theatre camp. She was physically the most awkward person on stage.

The other thing besides dancing these people often do well is public speaking and acting. Now, there they have her.

Lady Hawke Video may have been the incorrect term. The picture heading at the top of the web site whizzes through the Gallery photos. If you click on Gallery at the top of the website and stop at the one showing the dining area you will be able to see one of the comedy cow paintings on the R.hand wall. There were three different paintings on three walls, one in the bar area by the main entrance and two in the dining area. Like Queen Victoria, we were not amused, lol.

Good evening!

I worked more overtime today, and it was hectic.

Today, daughter has visited a farm where they make goat’s cheese, and to a bakery to make her own French bread. She is currently enjoying a disco.
I love having her itinerary so I know what she is doing and when, lol. Tomorrow they’re off to a chocolaterie before heading home. I’m not entirely sure that letting them loose on chocolate just prior to boarding a boat is a very good idea!! We get her back at about 9pm tomorrow.

Lady Hawke, what a lovely meeting that must have been! I am so happy for you all that this new school has worked so well for your daughter. I am cheering for her!

Happy Belated Beltane, Graymayne. I’m glad the lunch was good.

I do not know how they arrived at the elevation numbers but the change appeared to be
about half what the math said.

Stopped here on the way back.

We appear to be breaking records today. Our high is meant to be 57 F (13.8 C) and our low is meant to be 36 F (2.22 C). The historical low range for the day is 45 F (7.2 C) to 79 F (26.1 C).

I don’t think we are going to see that 57 F (13.8 C). When I first looked this morning it was 51 F (10.5 C) and now it is 46 F (7.77 C). Instead of the temperature rising and then falling it appears to just be falling.

It is also raining relentlessly, a very unpleasant day for May 3.

Lady Hawke We’re definitely experiencing weird weather around the world:( After an unexpectedly beautiful day yesterday we had a sunny morning followed by alternating sun and shade and now we just have cloud. I did manage to do some more garden tidying this morning. Sunday is meant to be sunny.

Morning

Another year when the American Idol cast off will become famous. She really is a young …………..Oh the singer that drowned in her hotel room right before one of the awards show…..Whitney Houston. Of the 3 left, Constant is the best singer. She reminds me sometimes of Queen Latiffa in looks. I will be surprised if she wins. It will probably be the slim pretty one that I don’t remember her name. Funny I know the names of all the others. Have you noticed how many times the one who did not win becomes the famous one-not the winner?

I slept later this morning for some reason. I am still drinking my coffee.

Reading Lady Hawke’s post about cooking for the weekend reminded me to put on my beef roast in the crock pot. I have meant to cook it for the last couple of days but remember when it is too late to put it on. I have left the window open all week and the door going downstairs open. I have left the door for downstairs open so the dogs can rest down there and not be under my feet all day.

I will go to town and get my glasses fixed today. I really need to go before it rains. Oh no I can not go because I have the pot roast on. Always something. It is suppose to rain tomorrow according to the Derby report.

I was sitting here at the computer when I heard a loud noise. I went outside to check it out. Harley Dog had pulled the lawn mower sitting on the porch into the yard. I had put a cardboard box over it and that is what he used to pull it off the porch. I was going to ,move it but now I needed to do it today. I put the lawnmower on the back porch. He had torn the cardboard box up enough that I was able to tear it the rest of the way down. I put it in the trash can. I had it sitting on the porch so it could get weak enough so I could break it down. This is not the lawn mower I use but the older one that the pull it self line was broken. My daughter had borrowed it and just put it on the porch when she brought it back. The trouble was she put it on the wrong porch.

Did I mention that I did all this outside without putting on a jacket? It still looks like it is going to rain.

It is 43 F (6.1 C) at approximately 10:30 AM. The temperature is working its way steadily downward.

COOLG, why can’t you leave the pot roast in the slow cooker on low and go do your business? That is the whole point of them. You load them and leave them.

I have the dishwasher and clotheswasher going. I have a music channel playing, Singers and Swing, mostly old ballads and not so much swing. I have a book. I have food for the next two nights. Unless something unexpected happens I am sitting right where I am except for moving some laundry around and picking my daughter up from school. It is too dark and nasty.

New kitty just came to say hello. I think she may join me in the chair.

ASTI, you must be thinking of going to pick your daughter up soon. It must be close to tea time for you. Are they eating before they arrive back at the school or will you have to feed her something late? I know she will be very tired and I know she won’t be coming in until her bedtime or thereafter. I hope the school took lots of photos of the trip and will post them online. I’m anxious to hear her observations.

Good evening!

I get my daughter back in about an hour and a half, and I am very much looking forward to seeing her again!
I cooked her her favourite…… carrot and ginger soup. I honestly don’t know if she’ll want it when she gets home; she is going to be very tired. But I wanted it there in case. And it will keep ’til tomorrow.

Lady Hawke, they will have had something to eat on the ferry. 9pm is only an ETA, I do hope they’re not much later. They will all need their beds.
I don’t know if the school will post pictures……I will find out, and will certainly post the link if they do. We did send daughter off with my DS’s camera, and I am expecting, at a conservative estimate, at least 500 pics from her, lol! I’ll post some over the next few days.
I hope you are enjoying a relaxing sort of day, even if you are hibernating against your weather!

She’s home! She looks exhausted, but is tucking into soup and toast, and is bubbling over with news in between mouthfuls! She’s had a wonderful time. I asked her what her favourite bit was, and she said, “all of it!”

Once she gets some sleep and calms down I would love to hear some details. Also, since she is all safe at home now I would love to know what her itenerary was for the trip.

It is a tremendous let down when a trip you have looked forward to so much is in the past.

Lady Hawke

I know you can leave a slow cooker on and leave but…….Since I have a real problem about forgetting, I never leave anything turned on if I am not within reach to turn off.

I put curtains back up after washing and drying them. I had to move one of the hooks because it wasn’t on a stud. Now my arms are so tired that I couldn’t go shopping if I wanted too.

Well I did go get my glasses fixed. Jennifer was going to Seymour where I purchased my glasses. I went with her and got the glasses fixed and it did not cost me anything. I turned the crock pot off so had to start it back again when I got home. If I had not turned it off, it would have been done when I got back.

I wore my flats and my feet hurt. I got a pair of things you put in the shoes to keep your foot from sliding. I don’t know if they helped because my feet were swollen. Now I need to put my feet up so they will go back down. Next time I will just wear some sandels.

COOLG, I guess I was thinking that even if you left a slow cooker on while you were gone you would smell it cooking when you came back so you would not be able to forget it. Usually when I cook in my slow cooker the aroma hits me in the face when I come through the door.

Got the carrots and potatoes in the pot roast. I never put them in until the meat is almost done. There is something about putting veggies with raw meat that I do not like.

We’re having hamburgers tonight with oven fries. That was the extent of my motivation for today.

Tomorrow I have the poblano chili, seasoned ground turkey and cheese casserole to serve with Spanish rice and veggies sauted in olive oil and garlic. All done, just need to be heated.

It makes me much calmer to know what I’m feeding us when I have a lot of work to do.

I have been busy moving my bed into the smaller bedroom. Now I am waiting on the bed clothing to get dry from washing them. The big thing is the bed skirt so I can put the mattress back on the bed. I am getting ready for summer when I need the A/C on. I am putting up a door at the beginning of the hall way so I can close it. I don’t intend on cooling the back part of the house this summer. I will just use open windows to let air in. I am just trying to keep the electric bill lower. I have taxes and dues to pay so need the electric bill to be smaller to give extra money to pay the other things. It is hard to be on an limited income especially when you have to pay extra stuff.

All the local stations are covering the Kentucky Derby. It is raining there and they can only have ponchos-no umbrella’s. The stuff they can bring in this year is less than last year. They will let you buy a sterafoam cooler plus ice for $7 to keep your drinks in. Of course these have to be in clear bottles. Ladies can only have a 12 inch purse and only small camers- no removable lense. I spoke too soon. Now we are down to only one channel covering the Derby. They will be covering it all day.

I have made some brownies this morning. As long as I don’t put any iceing on it, I can eat the brownies. I am smelling them now so they must be done.

Lady Hawke Nice that the cable guy came on time for a change. Since I have Comcast too, I always pay close attention to your cable problems.

Graymayne I haven’t been to CC for awhile. When my window gets closed, I don’t think about going there every day. I will try to get over there to see your pictures.

Dryer load is done so need to swape things around.

I have switch from the Derby to Nascar. After qualifing and the Nationwide race if it happens , I will switch back to the Derby. Gee just realize they are showing yesterday’s practice. I guess I will go back to the Derby for now. Either way, both are having rain troubles.

It will take me all day to get my bed back together. I needed to wash the mattress cover and get it dried. I do have the bed skirt back on the bed. It took so long because I forgot it is one that I had to iron to get wrinkles out of it before I put it back on the bed. Not my favorite thing to do but I just bite the bullet and ironed it. Lol At least the sheets and pillow cases are washed and dried.

Hi LH, Hi Cool G, I am doing well lately. Sally is much, much better & is making plans to leave Provence as soon as she completely recovers from the radiation & chemo. That therapy really takes the ‘stuffing’ out of you… Her prognosis is as good as can be, so she is quite upbeat & chomping at the bit to get back to running her business. All in all I guess it could not be much better news I think. :+)
