I’m still trying to recover from my unfortunate setback. I haven’t really eaten anything of significance since Wednesday that has stayed with me. I can tell I’m feeling better but the thought of food nauseates me and when I force myself to eat something bland my stomach resists. I ate most of an egg sandwich this morning. I can’t say I enjoyed it much but I hope it is my “turn around”.

I am going to try to do at least one load from my parent’s house to the apartment today.

We finally allowed the new kitty out of my daughter’s room without being in a crate for about 15 minutes. There was a bit of hissing and posturing from our existing female kitty but no one attacked anyone else. The new kitty acted as if she didn’t even notice she was an object of hissing. We had my daughter pack her back off to her bedroom. It had gone well enough and we didn’t want to risk and altercation that would leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. We’ll try again for a bit later and every day until we feel they are okay.

Good evening!

Ooooh, did someone say ice cream?

I am looking forward to tomorrow, and so is my son……he gets his traintracks removed! We have to go back on Tuesday to have him fitted with a retainer brace, but I CANNOT WAIT for him to be free of bits of metal attached to him.

Lady Hawke, I’m glad you are beginning to feel a bit more like yourself.

ASTI, congratulations to the son for getting rid of his braces removed. I certainly hope the retainers are made of a material preferrable to the ones when I was his age. No matter how much you brushed them the plastic bits never did come completely clean so I was always putting something in my mouth I felt was a bit nasty. There was no soaking them overnight either because they were worn day and night and I wore them for years. UNTIL…I dropped one of them in my dog’s water bowl and it broke. They told me I could discontinue the use of the retainer. I can tell you that retainer was never going to have gone back in my mouth. It was going to be a brand new one or nothing.

I did take a load to the apartment and unpacked it under the direction of my mother. Then, I went into the grocery for both of us. I can tell you once I was finished in the grocery I was FINISHED. My energy was completely depleted. I was out for the count. I took her home but at least I did accomplish something for the day.

Mandy has decided to guard “her fireplace” from Maude. I guess she is willing to consign the rest of the house to her but she is not going to give up the fireplace.

New Kitty, Maude, wandered about the house and laid herself out across the floor. No objections were heard on the part of anyone. However, after about an hour she put herself back in her crate and curled up. We took that as a sign she was ready to be taken back to her room for the night. We are so relieved there seems to be no sign of bloodshed.

I have spent the day with my mother. Now I must go pick my daughter up at school.

Good evening!

The traintracks are OFF, and my son feels great! Every time he smiles, I get a flash of straight, white, perfect teeth. And I know he keeps looking at himself in the bathroom mirror, lol. Back tomorrow for his retainer, but the worst is most certainly over.

Margaret Thatcher’s death feels like the real end of an era. Whatever our views on her politics and policies, she was, without a doubt, the strongest leader this country has had since Churchill. She deserved a decent retirement and a long, happy old age. Dementia is a cruel illness.

It was quite illuminating, watching the extended news at lunchtime, to see the strength of character of our first female Prime Minister. She definitely seemed to be in charge and confident that she knew wnat to do, come what may. I’ll bet she scared the living daylights out of the men in her cabinet. Nobody since has come near her since for presence, and I hadn’t realised that until today. R.I.P. Baroness Thatcher.

Lady Hawke I am glad to hear that you are on the mend slowly. Just take care not to overdo things.

Asti How good to hear about your son’s successful orthodontics. It will be such a boost to his self esteem.

I have just finished an ebook version of How it all Began by Penelope Lively, I haven’t read anything by her before but I didn’t like her writing style so I would be disinclined to try another one.

We need photos of your son’s mouth and your new hair, ASTI.

I took another load of kitchen and miscellaneous items to the apartment. We were relieved and surprised to find the boxes that are intended to go to the apartment are all there. I need to move the drawers from their dresser and chest of drawers in the bedroom and their clothing. Otherwise, there are boxes of things I am supposed to absorb into my house and I don’t know what I am going to do with them.

Tomorrow we are going to manage the clothing and take some rejected clothing to Salvation Army. I suppose I’ll have to start bringing home my own boxes. There are hardback antique books I haven’t been able to sell and don’t want to dump. I spent some money on their acquisition when I was young. My mother has “gifted” me with her Christmas China. It is very nice but I honestly don’t know I will ever use it. I never seem to have the presence of mind in December to switch out china for a month.

I guess I’ll start hauling drawers on Wednesday.

It was such a relief for my mother to realize she really has almost harvested everything from the house she intends to take with her. She still has room in drawers and cabinets in the kitchen and baths. The closets are full of boxes but once the furniture arrives most of the boxes can be unloaded into the furniture, leaving the closets much more empty.

I also moved their stereo equipment today. I’m leaving the TVs for the movers. One of them is an older TV, quite large and heavy.

I just left the Christmas Tree standing after I took the ornaments off. There was no point in dragging out to the garage. We needed the space to work and store things. So, one of the last things I will do this week will be to take off enough of the lights that I can pull the tree into two parts and lay it down in its sack. The horizontal tree is going to be in the way so I’ll leave that until the last possible minute.

Good evening!

The second trip to the orthodontist went well, and what is really nice is that the retainers are transparent, so you can’t tell he’s wearing them, and can still see these teeth!

I treated myself today. We have to catch two buses to get to the orthodontist, one of which stops in one of the major towns. So, since I have a nice little stash of overtime money in my savings account, I went and bought some new clothes. Some much needed underwear, (I think ALL my socks have holes in them, lol,) a new pair of black jeans, a shockingly pink blouse, a pair of long shorts and a summer dress, since I am an optimist, and two long cardigans, since I am also a realist! The one thing I failed at was footwear. I am in desparate need of both boots that don’t leak and summer sandals.
Even my daughter thought I’d bought a lot, and while I cannot remember the last time I bought so much, it is needed, and I will NOT feel guilty.

I finished a very good book today. Broken Harbour by Tana French. The author’s name is known to me, but I have never really fancied reading her before. But the blurb on this one got to me, and I am so glad it did. Beautiful, atmospheric descriptive writing, and a very decent story. I would recommend.

Lady Hawke, it sounds like there is still a lot to do, but the end might be in sight! I’m glad the new catty is feeling at home.

Today I moved my parent’s clothes to the apartment, including their winter coats, fall and spring jackets, and my father’s hats. I set up a new elevated toilet seat in the guest bathroom my mother will use. I took the everyday china my mother uses regularly. They will be using two plates for the next five days. They will definitely be “camping” and living out of a suitcase at the house now.

So, now I’m down to the drawers and topping the tree over.

I brought my first load home here today, the Christmas china I will never use, and my antique hardback books.

I still have odds and ends I will cruise around the house and gather, both for my parents and for myself. I can even do that after the furniture has moved.

Last night the new kitty found she could bully our little boy dog. He was out and she spent some time in his crate. When he came in we had our daughter get the cat out of his crate. She held her and the dog went in his crate. When she put the cat down she headed straight across the room toward the crate. The poor boy dog bolted and the kittly chased him, hissing, with her paws waving at him. He was terrified. The kitty ended up back in my daughter’s room for that. It never occured to us she might end up being the bully. She is so passive with us.

ASTI, transparent retainers sound fabulous. That sounds lovely to go shopping and to come back with more than the single item for which you were searching. I don’t think you have ever come here and said you made a purchase of more than one piece of clothing, books…yes, clothing for yourself…no. We will hope for some warm sunny days this summer so you can wear your new dress without the cardigans.

Lady Hawke Perhaps Maude has bad memories of a dog. Perhaps she just wanted to keep his crate. Maybe she just was feeling insecure, since she had just been dispossessed of an item that smelled of him. Whatever, I hope all the four footed members of your household soon learn to live together in peace. ;)

Aloha, all!!! Work lurk. ;)

Lady Hawke I am in awe of your organisational skills as demonstrated in this house move. I doubt that your parent’s will have experienced such a smooth transition to a new property in their lives, despite the delay in the process due to your illness. I hope that your health is returning at full speed. I am definitely in favour of having the kitchen fully stocked with cutlery, china and and paraphernalia, not to mention food, right from the beginning. It lessens the feeling of displacement. I wouldn’t make a good refugee, lol.

It seems that I have forgotten to get on for a few days. I was busy reading a series of books by the same author. I really like reading books that have the same people in them for more than a mention. Of course this began as a free E book and I wound of buying the whole series.

Lady Hawke I am glad you are on the mend. It is nice that you are working thru your illness but one day in the future you will wish you had waited until you were completely better. I know because I use to be the same way. Now I think about what I want to do and that is about as far as it gets.

Yesterday I went to make my morning coffee and discovered no water. It seemed everything I wanted to do involved using water. I checked to see if I had paid my water bill. Thankfully I had. I was able to make my coffee with bottled water. I later went outside and saw all this equipment at the end of the street. This is where the main water line is. So then I knew it was something they were working on that caused the no water. The water came back on during the afternoon.

I did find my insurance was past due. So I had my daughter pay it on her way home. I did not want to drive without it being paid. You never know even thought it was just 2 days past due. So I need to go online and pay my regular bills. I am a little later in the month doing this. Maybe I wanted to have a nice balance in my checking account for a few days. Lol

Good evening!

I was all alone last night. My DS had a meeting at head office to review his performance, followed by a service meeting and a meal. He said there were about 20 of them in total. All food, all drinks, and a hotel paid for by the company. I missed him, but I am glad he had this opportunity to meet up with his colleagues. Working from home can feel a little isolating….his only contact is with the controllers who send him his jobs.
His review went VERY well. He has really impressed them.

I am having a wonderful time with books at the moment! I’ve started another terrific one, The Map of Time by Felix J Palma. It’s a gloriously funny, inventive time travelling story based in Victorian London, paying tribute and homage to the writers, inventors, real life people and imagination of that age. It might possibly be my book of the year so far.
