Yes we are boh in our sixties. I will be 69 in May, my ds is younger than me. She only has about 17 to 18 months to go till she can retire, I am semiretired now working on as need be basis. I still get to enjoy my woodworking hobby.

We had a chilly day with several feeble attempts at snow. We’ve never made a big thing out of Mothering Sunday but I’ve certainly had better ones:( BigG phoned this evening having spent the day in bed with the onset of a nasty cold. He had been down in Devon at an archeological site with some slinging mates to do some slinging for a research project by an archeological team. They set off on Friday and stayed overnight at a B&B paid for by the research professor. They had a good time on the Saturday but it was cold and wet. If you Google “Hod Hill, Devon” there is a Wikipedia article and a photo.

Lady Hawke I can relate to clothing too small to wear hanging in the wardrobe. I need a clear-out too:(

Lady Hawke You don’t have to have a Kindle to read e-books. Just download “Kindle for PC” and you can read them on your laptop, that’s what I did before I bought my Kindle. Problem solved.

Good evening!

It is COLD! The windchill is making it about -8C, and I have spent far too much time outside today. Brrrrrrrr.

Ironsos, the Hitchhikers thingy doesn’t do anything clever for me :( Even the google home page just sends me to an info page. It’s a fun pic though!

Graymayne, I’m so pleased you enjoyed it!

Asti: Works from the google search bar for me not from the google main page for some reason.
make sure sound in lower right corner is on. Hitting different buttons on the guide table does
different things. Also can find Marvin.

Morning

Mr. Deanie I remembered when you retired. For some reason I thought you were retiring because you had your time in with your company not that you were old enough to retire. Similar to Mistic Willow retireing because she had her time in. That is why she is working now to get enough points to be able to collect social security next year along with her pension from her work. As for Deanie I still thought she was 59. I guess that was a few years ago. Lol

I hadn’t watched the Bacholor in years until I watched some of it with my daughter a couple of years ago. I watched enough that I liked the winner. So when the winner was coming on the Bachlorette last summer, I decided I would watch it to see what had happened with Emeily. Before it was over I was getting a little aggravated with her especially when she sent my favorite Shaun home. So since Shaun was this year Bachlor, I had to watch again. Now he did pick one of the ones I liked. So not only are they actually getting married, it will be on TV. To get ready he is doing Dancing With The Stars to learn how to dance. Could it get any better? Lol It does!. My other favorite woman who was sent home is going to be on the new Bachlorette this summer. Now I see how they have made it so many years. They suck you in again because you like who is playing. I tried to watch the Bachlor Pad last summer because of this but I just couldn’t make it through it.

Asti It has gotten colder here too. My dogs are smart. They have started drying their feet by staying on the porch before they come inside. Now when they come in, they don’t have to stay in the mud room until their feet dry. I can dry their bodies but I stopped drying their feet. It is too hard on your back staying down long enough to dry 8 feet. If it is raining and I forget to dry them, they just stay downstairs and look at me waiting for me to remember befor they come upstairs.

I worry about you walking to work in the dark. It must be a lot safer where you live.

Graymayne That is nice about Big G. Every time I see a program on the history channel about throwing slings, I always watch just to see if Big G will be on. A lot of times they show people in the background. I can’t be sure but I think I did see him one time. I think it was a program on that you sent links to a article. It might not have been the same program but Big G is hard to miss because of his hair and hat. Well he didn’t have the hat on when he was throwing the sling but his hair is unforgetable.

Ironsos I can see you punching all the buttons. Lol We know that you love The Hitchhikers Guide To the Universe.

We went through our own packages of processed film that had been turned into prints, the ones from our own vacations and family events, not the grandparents and great grandparent photos. It was horrifying to just throw away bundle after bundle of processed film while only extracting one or two photos out of most of them. It was hundreds and hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars we threw away.

I am so glad we have digital cameras now. If you take the photo and don’t like it you just delete it. You don’t have to pay to have it processed and find it is no good.

Most of the photos we threw away looked fine. We knew where they were taken and some of them were quite good but what would we do with them? We ended up retaining the ones that had photos of our family and friends in them. Even then we kept far too many but how do you throw away a good photo of someone you love doing something that evokes a good or sad memory?

I just boxed up the photographic slides to go through at a later date. We will have to put them up on a screen to see what is there. The slides we don’t keep I will try to sell. It seems slides have a value, especially vintage slides of identifiable places in the past.

COOLG, I agree with you. I worry about ASTI walking in the dark to work. It looks like a fairly non threatening area. I have gone all the way from her work to her house on Google Maps. Here, it doesn’t really matter how nice an area it is. All it takes is one bad person capable of overpowering a lone woman in the dark for things to go badly.

CoolG and Lady Hawke, please don’t worry about me! It is a safe, well lit road, and while I cannot absolutely guarantee my safety, who of us can, anywhere at any time? I have never had cause to be even slighty worried on my walk to or from work.

Lady Hawke, I do love all the advantages of digital cameras, but I really miss taking that film to be developed, and not quite remembering what was on it…..the anticipation when you collected the prints was lovely!
My iPad and the printer have reached the next phase of their relationship…..I think I have the scanning thing sussed! (Though only through my iPad…as yet I cannot make the printer scan to me.) I have a small chest full of old photos, and am looking forward to getting some of them into this machine and seeing what I can do with them.

Ironsos I posted earlier that I had enjoyed your link to Google and had revealed Marvin, but the post didn’t turn up! Anyway, the DS and I are great fans of the original TV series of Hitchhiker… and we also enjoyed the later film. My DS also loves the books but I never read them.

I reported to the consultant at the Rheumatology Clinic today that I had been gout free certainly since before Christmas and he was pleased. He seems to know his job but he gives me the creeps.

CoolG I don’t know whether anyone was doing any filming, my son didn’t say. He took some photos and will send me a link probably when he is over his cold/chest infection.

Graymayne: I have the “Ultimate Guide to the Universe” which has the five novels plus a short story.
It is getting a little page worn from the rereads.

Morning

The only time I have logged out of Leaky has been when the power has gone off. Hope that doesn’t happen.

It snowed sometime during the night. Not much but enough to cover the truck windows and the grass. The weather is crazy. It was warm over the weekend and now snowing!

I think I need to put on a pair of socks. My feet are getting cold.

I dragged stacks of old 78 albums into the house yesterday and reboxed them. They are so heavy. I need to rebox them again because I couldn’t lift the boxes I put them in. There was old Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and lots of old songs and performers I did not know. Some of the music was really old like “Sidewalks of New York”. There were lots of waltzes and fox trots. Each one of those were much heavier than the newer 33 LPs.

We quit using the stereo years ago when we couldn’t find a needle for it. I know albums are supposed to be making a comeback among music snobs, that they prefer the sounds of a vinyl album over that of a CD. So, I called around looking for a needle and couldn’t find one. My father would have liked to have heard some of the 78s.

Lady Hawke That is what happened to my record player. I could not find anyone who made a needle to fit it. I finally gave all my 78’s and 45’s away.

I think it is spitting snow again.

I think I might be slightly psychic: I was watching the special news programme on TV which was covering the action after the white smoke signal. Inevitably the commentators were discussing the likely chosen candidate and wondering whether he would follow tradition with regard to his Papal name or whether he would break new ground. I thought about this and decided that I would be in favour of the name Francis.

Good evening!

I have left an overexcited message at CC!

My DS used to be an avid collecter of vinyl records. He has a lot of rare, extended singles up in the loft, but we too have no way of playing them any more.
I was more of a cassette kind of girl. I still have, somewhere, a tape I complied of “meaningful” songs at about aged 17. I called it “The Bottle of Wine in the Dark Tape!”

Ironsos, I no longer have copies of the books…….I read them to they fell apart. I still get the giggles when I think of the word “yellow.” One of the best openings to a book EVER!

Lady Hawk If you google “Record Player Needle” there are plenty of sites that still carry the needles at not to bad of price.

MR DEANIE, I did Google about needles in general but I haven’t looked to see the model stereo my parents have or what needle it needs. The needle page I found was charging $17 to $20 for a needle. Since they are only going to be in the house for two more weeks with the stereo I don’t think they will want to invest even that much in something to leave behind, just to hear the records again.

That just scared to me death… two more weeks. I have so much work to do, both here and there. My DS HAS to get the computer room cleared and his stuff out of my dining room.

ASTI, since I already commented on Facebook about your daughter’s great success I won’t say any more here than to reiterate how proud we are of her.

It is cold again. I hate that I have so much static electricity in my body. Whenever it is cold, I have to be careful what I touch when I get up from sitting. I have to touch something to discharge the static. The dogs sometimes get the shock if they touch me before I have discharged it. I was looking to see what I had on that would cause it today. I figured it was my socks.
