Won_Two Yes, I have been getting dusting messages from about lunchtime until 10.0pm roughly.

Asti Our bedroom has no storage heater provided but we have a small heater on wheels which plugs in and heats oil in its tubes, I believe. We switch this on about an hour before bedtime or longer in very cold weather then switch it off when we go to bed. This seems to be very effective. I need to use two hot water bottles to get me warm enough to go to sleep but they are discarded during the night. I’m not happy in cold weather, I would rather hibernate, lol.

I am relieved to find that other touch typists don’t consciously know the whereabouts of the keys. Isn’t the brain an amazing organ? I did a years’ course at a commercial college after leaving school at 16 to prepare me for office work. I did shorthand of course, but I don’t function well at speed so I wasn’t one of the high flyers.

I’m getting sleepy, I’m in need of my bed.

ASTI,

I thought it was just American Southerners who panic shopped before impending snows. I am relieved to find it is an international madness. I will cross my fingers the snow holds off until after your son has managed to arrive at school to sit his paper. It would not do for him to arrive for such an important event soggy and wet. I became very cold this morning since I was forced to go out in this ice and I have still not recovered from the cold, even though I’ve had a hot shower and have warm dry clothes. I have to confess I have become desperate. I have made a cup of hot coffee and liberally dosed it with amaretto. My daughter is home from school so I don’t need to go out again or drive. So, I can pamper myself a bit.

ASTI, did you not have to take typing in school. I attended a university preparatory high school and we were all required to take typing. Then, some people who expected to go on to secretarial training or those who anticipated typing many, many papers continued to take additional typing. By my senior year I had taken all my requirements and I took another course in typing. I was comparatively pitiful at it. Timed writings were trauma for me. I made fairly decent grades on prepared assignements in terms of style but I did very poorly on timed typings, barely passing. I was so worrying about making mistakes I could hardly type. I was liberated by word processors and computers. I can type as fast as I like and I can always remedy mistakes with no fuss or muss.

So, I am glad I took those typing courses. I worried at the time it was a waste of my time but I would never had managed all the papers I wrote and turned in during university and grad school without it.

It is most mysterious, this morning I tried to access Leaky via my usual bookmark in Mozilla and got the dusting screen, so I went back to my Windows 7 start button and used the link on the support page instead of clicking onto Mozilla, and here I am. I used the same route last night after a day of dusting messages.

We have a dental checkup this afternoon and I see that we had a sprinkle of snow in the night. Yuck!

Morning

I only go to other places on this site ocassionly. I sort of forget them. It seems when I visit the groups I belong to, mine is the last post no matter how long it has been. I wrote a post on my Nascar group and asked anyone visiting to leave a post. No one did. I don’t visit it often myself now. What is the point when no one else is visting the site.

I bought me a garment rack so I could hang clothes to dry. It will be nice if the electrician can get here sometime soon. At least I am staying warm. I would hate it if I didn;t have electricity. I couldn’t stay here. As it is I am doing ok. I will have to wait to wash another load until my towels get dry.

I have to go for another eye appointment this afternoon. Last week I was taken off two of the eye drops for my right eye. I think I still have to go next week too. I can not remember how many appointments I have left.

I got dusting messages all day yesterday and again this morning. So I came here via the history. ;)

The cold front is supposed to get here later today or overnight tonight. The map looks like it should actually just brush us and the worst will pass to the north of Atlanta. The map could easily (read has frequently been) be wrong. The personnel office emailed the Inclement Weather Policy to all of us. ;)

I go see the orthopaedic surgeon tomorrow afternoon. So unless his office calls to cancel, I will still go, even if I don’t have to come to work. ;)

I watched the new American Idol this morning. I had to tape it since I fall asleep so early. I wonder if I will get on a later schedule since my daughter is not staying here? Anyway, it seems as if the judges are being more selective this year. I know several of the contestants didn’t make it and they would have in previous years. It will be interesting to see what happens tonight.

I am a bit anxiety ridden this morning. We have an ongoing ethics and criminal charges going on against the mayor of my town. He was caught last year having charged hundreds of thousands of dollars of personal expenses on his city credit card and then it turned out he was turning in his business receipts for reimbursement to two different divisions of city government. Then, it turned out when he and his wife divorced he forced people at city hall to falsify his pay vouchers so she would not know what his actual salary was for child support payments and alimony. (They split when he came “out”.) He also stupidly made charged to a “alternative” sex toy shop on the city credit card. A few weeks ago he was charged with failing to stop for a school bus, the only time he was actually behind bars. This man is appears to be a sociopath and he is still in office. No one understands why he is not in jail.

The rumor is today he is going to either resign or announce he will not be running for re-election.

The mayor’s wife’s attorney announced last night that he will be running for mayor.

The wife’s attorney was the boy who persecuted me throughout elementary school and high school. He egged my house when I wouldn’t let him cheat off my algebra test one time. This person harassed me and bullied for years and I finally snapped one day and I swung my very heavy purse at him and hit him in the face. This person is not my friend. I have seen things recently that tell me he has not changed. I’ve seen a fight on Facebook in real time during which someone else accused him of cheating on tests later in his academic career. The online fight was quickly deleted.

I do not want this person as my mayor either. While the other one is a criminal this one is potentially a criminal with a history of personal enmity between us.

This feels a bit like A Casual Vacancy in real life.

Lady Hawke What a situation. Neither appears to have a happy ending. Hopefully someone else better will decide to run.

I am waiting on Jennifer to get here from her work. I am wondering where we will eat after going to the eye doctor. I need to go to the grocery store too. I could probably drive myself later to the grocery. My Schwann man came today and I got catfish plus a pasta and shrimp dish.

Good evening!

Work, as I predicted, was pretty foul today. I will be interested to see how much money we took. I am really tired, and am grateful for a day off tomorrow…….even if it seems likely I will have a full house. We are predicted between 10 and 12cm of snow, which is more than enough to bring this country to a standstill. We shall see.
I am working overtime on Saturday. If it does snow overnight, I might well get a panicked phonecall tomorrow to see if I can go in as an emergency. If there are problems on the roads, many people won’t be able to get in.

I get the dusting if I go to the main site, but I have had no problems at all getting here.

Lady Hawke and Graymayne, I was taught no typing at all at school. I think it was no longer correct to assume girls would become secretaries, though lots still did, and it was too soon to kow we would need to know how to type on computers. I remember I had ONE lesson, aged about 15, on using a computer.
My Mother is a much, much better typist than I am. Even my Dad uses more fingers than I do!

CoolG, I hope all goes well with your appointment. How long do they think it will be before your eyes settle down?

We went food shopping after our trip to the dentist. It was obvious that the shop had been very busy in the morning. There were tiny snowflakes falling for a couple of hours and proper snow is forecast overnight and tomorrow. Our area is only predicted to receive about four inches, but south Wales seems to be expected to receive a lot more. Roll on Spring.

ASTI, I just found out a friend of mine I used to work with has a son who used to be a Methodist minister but who has now been ordained an Anglican priest, not an Episcopal priest. I looked on his Facebook page and he has JAFFA CAKES on his favorites list. I wonder how he came in contact with Jaffa Cakes.

I would have liked a bit of real snow and then on to spring. We had a very strange bit of additional accumulation in crevices during the night. It was white and round like sleet but it was soft like sponge and it was very sticky and held together. My DS was telling me it was sleet but I told him sleet is hard and hurts when it falls. These little balls had no more weight than a snow flake. I have never seen anything like them. I wish I had thought to take a photo. They really just looked like sleet but when you touched them they were squishy.

ASTI, my school avoided the whole prejudicial business by making everyone take typing for half a year. You might not be any good at it but at least you could get through a paper.

I have typed this entire post without thinking about where the letters are but when I start thinking about it my fingers start shaking.

We have snow. 7cm at least and still falling hard.
The schools are shut……even the exam candidates have been told to stay at home.
The road is impassible. DS and daughter went to the shop and saw cars skidding all over the place.
My son went straight back to bed. My daughter and DS and the cats are a little over excited.

I used my first “free” day in two weeks to go take the car to be serviced.

ASTI, when will the exam be rescheduled? Do you know yet? Was your son disappointed not to be able to get the thing finished?

Now I am home I have some cleaning to do and some ever present laundry to process.

I also brought home a large package of chicken, a large package of beef roast and some ground beef/blue cheese burgers which I need to repackage into reasonable cooking servings. I was down to enormous chunks of meat in my freezer, a large ham, a turkey and a large pork loin. They are pieces of meat I will cook for events when I am feeding a lot of people or when I am expecting for all of us to be home for several days so I can reprocess the initial cooking into several other meals and sandwiches, maybe Spring Break, my husband’s birthday, Easter. I need some meat products for a normal meal.

Tonight I think I am going to roast some chicken thighs and make a sort of Greek pizza/tomato tart with goat cheese and have Italian spinach on the side.

Tomorrow I am going to make a beef roast with vegetables which I hope will extend to Sunday as well. I have carrots, rutabaga, potatoes, onions and brussel sprouts to cook with the roast. I think I might make some Yorkshire pudding to go with it.

I’ve vacuumed, wiped down the kitchen and mopped the kitchen. I packaged my meat products into reasonable amounts and put them in the freezer outside.

When I went out I found I had one package of chicken legs, one small beef roast, one medium steak suitable for making fajitas and two pieces of fish. Otherwise, I had some breakfast meats: sausages, sliced ham and bacon. I didn’t have much of a selection of single meal portions of meat. At least I have something to work with for a bit now.

I have just under an hour before I pick my daughter up from school. The sun has been shining brightly all day and did yesterday afternoon as well. It is such a relief.

Hello again.

Daughter has thoroughly enjoyed herself today. This is the biggest snowfall she has seen, and is indeed a lot for us here in the South. The road became passable by about lunchtime, and is now very wet but clear. The snow is still deep around our little group of houses, and has been compacted down onto the pavements. It will freeze tonight, which will make my walk to work tomorrow very dodgy.

I spent some time today beta reading for Wolfie. She needs to get her manuscript to her publishers by the end of next month. I can highly recommend her book! I am reading carefully, making copious notes for her and am only 5 chapters in, but she has me hooked.

Lady Hawke, son will now have to wait until the summer exam season to sit this paper. It is a pity. He has been attending after school revision classes, and revising hard at home, and it all feels a bit wasted now. It is a long time ’til June.

Hello everyone! Hope y’all are having a lovely mid January… Apparently I have been sorely remiss in updating my address to the database over at CC. Shame on me! I would have been sure I had done so if questioned beforehand, but I would have been totally wrong. Deanie, if you would be so kind, please correct my omission. I will email the correct addy to you. Asti, I did receive your lovely card, thank you. I dunno why only yours was forwarded, and none of the others… A Post Office enigma to be sure.

I have been busy this afternoon shelling, deveining, marinating, and coating with home made beer batter, a couple of pounds of wild caught jumbo prawns. I will be deep frying 8 or 10 of them tonight, and freezing equal portions of the rest in sandwich baggies. My next task will be to whip up a batch of suitable dipping sauce. I have about 3 pounds of Yukon Gold spuds that were formed up into fries (chips) on my mandoline, that presently, are soaking in lightly sugared ice water. Veggie will be steamed broccoli florets in Velveeta based cheese sauce. I needed to be resuscitated after seeing the current price for a gallon of peanut oil! :O For my beverage tonight I will be having a large mug of cold diet cherry cola soda, that I made all by myself!!!! I am really beginning to love all the fun I am having with my home made kegorator… :D

ASTI, without giving us any plot can you tell us the genre of WOLFIE’s book, mystery, romance, sci-fi, adventure? I’m glad your daughter enjoyed the day so much. It will be a good memory for her, maybe for her entire life. I am sorry your son will likely have to go through the whole test revision process again. That is a shame, to be prepared and then to find you are going to have to do it all again.

WON, it sounds like a yummy dinner. I have been watching CC for a new address for ages. I finally decided we were not going to get one. Since I believe your move was more than six months ago I did not attempt to send a card. I think the Postal Service only forwards for six months.

I am up at 3:00am because I slept most of the afternoon yesterday after my colonoscopy.

The prep period was definitely the worst part since I slept through the whole procedure. :(

6 more day till our vacation. The DS wants me to consider going West through Arizona this year but I’m not sure. We will think about it. We always go to Florida an I love it there. We will see. :(

Morning all! I have sneeked in through the back door again, Leaky is having quite an overhaul. I wonder if we will end up with a proper working website?

The temperature is just on freezing but I don’t think we had any fresh snow overnight, you can see the road surface clearly with a central patchy white stripe in the middle.

Asti How exciting to be proof-reading *Wolfie’s" book! Out of curiosity I looked up P. G. Wodehouse books last night on Amazon and had a peek inside his book that had inspired last Sunday’s TV version. It confirmed my opinion that the director’s interpretation of the characters was grossly exagerated and delivered in pantomime style by very well-known actors. Personally I prefer the books so I will not waste my time watching the TV series. I have also given up on Silent Witness because I no longer find their increasingly gruesome plots entertaining. I am slipping into the typical older generation attitude of “what is the world coming to” but the pace of change seems to be accelerating:(

MM, have you ever been out west or to Arizona before, to the Grand Canyon or Petrofied Forest? It is definitely a different world than Florida. I have friends who winter in southern Arizona since the weather is so much better than in East Tennessee where they live during the summer. If you feel committed to beaches there are certainly none of those to be had there. There are definitely some wonderful places. You could go to Durango, CO or Santa Fe, NM coming and going from Arizona. I would highly recommend either or both of those places, just the sort of little towns where you like to get out and wander up the streets and in and out of the shops, historic buildings with shops and restaurants.

I really missed having my door lock not being a key in the number kind. Yesterday I started my truck so it would warm up befor I left. I was doing several things before I left. When I got in the truck I realized I did not have my purse. So my phone was in my purse as well as my house key. I had taken my house key off my key ring when I went to get my second eye done. I had failed to put it back on my keyring. I knew my daughter was coming over but it could be hours befor she showed up. After going around the house several times looking at my windows (which were all locked since it was winter), I decided I would take out the window a/c in the back bedroom. It had not been taken out of the window for several years. I was able to get up on the deck and took the A/C out of the window. Then I crawled in the window. There is a small deck underneath the back bedroom windows so you have something to crawl out on in case of fire. It is about 10 feet off the ground but I was able to get on the deck from the lower back porch.

It was not long before my daughter came but I was tired from all the crawling around so I didn’t make it to the store. Today I am getting a copy made of my door key and putting it somewhere outside. I don’t have another window to climb in if I forget my key again. Lol

I think since it is suppose to be warmer today that I will fill up my truck with my daughter’s stuff and take it to her house for her. She has been taking a load in her car every day. She is about to the point that she will need a trailer or a pick up truck to take her bed. I am letting her have my swival stools with a back to use at her counter. This will be the second daughter who has used my stools. I have no room for them now.

The worst part of a colonoscopy is the prep, no doubt about it. The prep is a miserable 24 to 30 hours with an extremely miserable six or eight hours in there a little over half way through. I didn’t particularly enjoy the 48 hours before the prep when my diet was so restricted and I had to think about every bite I put in my mouth. I couldn’t eat most of the food we have on hand, no whole grains, no high fiber, no nuts, no seeds, no fruits or veggies with seeds, nothing red. By the time they take you to the procedure room it is all over for you. The next thing you know you are conscious and they are getting you ready to go get some food on the way home.

My DS came home yesterday with the news that he has to have one next month. I dread those three days before the procedure. I’ll have to feed him foods we don’t usually have on hand the first two days and then watch him not have anything but liquids the day before the procedure. Then, he’ll be up half the night. Of course, my day will be taken up with taking my daughter to school, taking my DS to the procedure and sitting with him and taking him home and then going to pick up my daughter. So, I’ll have to be sure I have a gripping book to read. I’ll be doing a lot of waiting for people that day.

COOLG, you always amaze me. If I had to scale a ten foot deck to get to a window with a window unit that had to be removed in order to crawl inside I would still be outside standing next to a car that had run out of gas.
