Nice to see you CORDELIA.

ASTI: Worst of cold snap was this morning. Not supposed to get above 23F(-5C) the rest of the week though.

Won_Two: Like the cat in the paper yesterday your Christmas card made its way back home.
Do not know why. All seems correct.

WON moved. I don’t think the address at CC is the right one anymore.

Cordelia How nice to see you:) Try and pop in now and again.

I have downloaded an app called My Alarm Clock for my Kindle Fire. I would have to keep my device plugged in to prevent draining the battery. It will display digital or clock face time and there are several alarm options including my favourite music, were I to load any. It also gives brief weather details. I’m trying to make my Fire a very useful item, not just a source of entertainment. I really like to have a portable IMDb.

We awoke to snow this morning but it was pretty light and already thawing. A troublesome cable on our street was shorting out in the thawing conditions but someone sent for the appropriate firm to deal with it, so that was very satisfactory. Our downstairs neighbour is being fitted with a new bathroom and kitchen and they have decided to do a re-wiring job as well. The noise has been horrendous but the weather has been too unpleasant to consider going out in self defence.

CoolG I am capable of forgetting stuff kept in my salad drawer in the fridge, so I don’t think having a freezer would be a good idea for me.

Ironsos I was browsing in the kitchen section of Amazon and came across plug-in machines that resemble kettles but in fact are capable of producing soup safely and efficiently if they are filled with chopped vegetables and stock/water, in about twenty minutes. I thought of you and your reduced catering facilities and wondered whether such an item would be of use to you, particularly in wintry weather.

Time for bed.

Graymayne: Thank you very much for the idea. So far microwaved pre-made soups have been a
staple. I will go to the mall and see what they have.

Thanks for the info Lady Hawke.

All things considered I think a crock pot will end up being the best idea.

They waited until 5:18 AM to send out emails saying schools are closed for the day. The “city” streets are okay. It is the rural county roads that are the problem. They are afraid to move the buses. Considering it never went above 30F (-1.11C) yesterday and dropped to 27F(-2.77C) during the night I can only imagine they knew the conditions of the rural roads last night.

I am griping because if they had called the closures last night I would not be up and around right now. I would still be cuddled up under the covers asleep. Instead I got out of bed and went to turn on water for coffee and tea and checked my email and Facebook and saw the closures that were called 45 minutes before I got out of bed.

She will lose her long weekend break in February now and it isn’t even as if we have a beautiful world of snow to justify it.

It seems we are not finished. When I went to bed last night the weather was supposed to have improved and moved on today. During the night we have been put under and ICE STORM WARNING. It is meant to start as sleet and be topped off with freezing rain, up to half an inch of ice expected. That will mean trees coming down. So, now I see why they closed schools today. They managed to get the children home yesterday and don’t want to have to do it again in a much worse weather situation.

I am glad now I don’t live in Memphis or Shelby County. They are open for three hours today and are dismissing at 10 AM , 11 AM and 12 PM. So, they will be emptying the schools as the weather starts going bad.

Make sure you have all of your devices charged. At least then you can read or play solitaire when the power lines go down from the weight of the ice or the tree limbs faling on them. ;)

Bundle up and stay warm. ;)

Good morning all. Not much to report from here. Class-prep and meetings for the most part this week. Classes start next Tuesday and I’m enjoying my last few days of freedom….

My DS is being sent home to work from home in the face of the incoming storm. This is quite unusual. They didn’t send anyone home yesterday.

I have everything out of the kitchen that belongs to my daughter. I also added a few things that were mine but I don’t really need anymore. I do not cook every day like I use to. We need to finish removing things from the bedroom. She still has a lot of things in my storage rooms. I guess she will take her time removing these things.

I think I will do spring cleaning after she has moved out. Now that I see better I am noticing things that need done. For example the globes on my overhead lights have not been cleaned in a year and they need it.

Good evening!

I spent the afternoon cooking a batch of carrot and ginger soup for daughter. She has her cross country club after school tomorrow, and I thought she might welcome something warming! It is cold here, well not very, compared to some of your temperatures, lol. At the moment it seems pretty likely we will have snow on Friday.

Won, is your CC address correct? I sent you a card too, but didn’t put a return address on it, so it is presumably lost and lonely in some sorting office somewhere!

Lady Hawke, stay safe and warm! xx

It is raining so steadily ice has not accumulated on surface streets yet even though it is 29F (-1.66). It is washing down the gutters. The trees are bending over and the rain is expected to keep up all night with falling temperatures. At some point the roads should be overcome by the freezing rain.

There have already been many terrible wrecks on bridges and overpasses, some cars sliding off overpasses, one car running up under a large transport truck. People forget bridges and overpasses ice up first and they are not thinking about what they are doing.

We have the fireplace burning and everyone is in a snacking mood. We have some gentle mood music going and are having a cozy day. I somehow expect a similar day tomorrow.

Well, the rain has stopped and it never has built up on the roads. Once again we are reduced to waiting to find out if the roads are too bad out in the country for the buses to run in the morning.

Morning all! I am typing this on my Kindle Fire:) The temperature this morning is three degrees below freezing but we have no snow. I am using my stylus so it seems a slow process because although I am a touch typist it would seem that my fingers know where the keys are but my conscious mind doesn’t. Very odd.

Thank God for touch typing. If it hadn’t been for that, I would have never been able to type on the computer. As it is now, I don’t know where the keys are. I just let my fingers find the keys. If I look at the keyboard, it takes me forever to find the right key. That is why it takes me so long to text. I have to hunt for the correct keys.

I tried out my sister-in-law’s Kindel Fire. This is the same sister-in-law that I introduced to the Kindel. She bought one for my brother. As for me, it was a life saver for my brother. Not only did it allow him to read books again, it keeps him occupied during his diaylis (sp). Now he has a Kindel HD and my sister-in-law has the Kindel Fire. I was planning on getting me a Kindel Fire but since I had to have my eyes done, it has been put on the back burner.

I can’t wait until I can get a regular pair of glasses. I mean bi focals even if the top is just plain glass. I forget to take my reading glasses off until I realize why I can’t see when I am doing other things. This is becoming a big pain. I have wore glasses for so many years that it feels funny not having a pair on.

I am a touch typist too. I have no idea where the letters are on the keyboard but my fingers know as well. I have found as I have started texting and posting from my Blackberry my thumbs have started to learn the keyboard as well. Once my hands are holding my Blackberry and my thumbs are in position they know where to go. So, as you use a stylus I imagine your brain will learn the muscle reflex for that as well.

Our schools are on a 3 hour delay. My daughter will not go to school until after her lunch time. We should be leaving for school in less than 15 minutes and now I have over three hours to wait before I take her.

My DS came home yesterday expecting to work from home today but since the schools are open he is going to go to work but he is not breaking any speed records getting there. He would normally have been at work over twenty minutes ago and he is still in the bedroom getting ready.

Good morning all! Weather is finally supposed to warm up a bit today (read: get above freezing). I’ll be excited to be able to run outside again! I have a running date with a friend for this afternoon.

Less than a week until classes start. I’ve had a ridiculously long break, but now I’ve just gotten lazy and want more break. ;)

DR LEW, it is sort of like with a baby, they say “sleep makes sleep”, that babies who nap also sleep better at night. I never found that to be true but the longer you don’t have something you have to do the more comfortable you can get with the idea. A reasonable break seems like a break. A long break seems like a lifestyle change.

Good evening!

It is cold here. We don’t have the central heating on at night, and I needed my dressing gown draped over the duvet as an extra layer last night. We are still forecast snow for Friday…….son has a GCSE exam, so even if the schools are shut he HAS to get there to sit the paper.
All this means work is going to be stupid tomorrow as people panic buy in case we actually get the snow.

I do admire everyone who can touch type!! I can type fast and pretty accurately (most of the time, lol,) but my eyes are firmly on the keypad, not the screen. Thinking about it, you’d assume it is like the piano……. Once I know a piece, I don’t need to look at the keys to know I am playing the right notes, my fingers know where to go. But it doesn’t work that way for the touch screen. I suppose the piano is muscle memory…..I use all my fingers, and stretch my hands. When I type, I use two or sometimes, (if I’m feeling adventurous,) three or four fingertips.
