Good Morning

I didn’t wake up so early this morning. This is an improvement. I hate waking up at 4AM especially when I have no where to go. I was just looking around. I think I will be able to straighten things up. It looks so cluttered right now. When you have the things I need to keep out so I won’t forget them and the things my daughter has scattered around, it is really getting cluttered.

My daughter is waiting to make sure the owner is going to fix the things they found on the home inspection. Not a whole lot but they need to fix the covering over the insulation under the house. Not a whole lot of repairs but enough to be a deal breaker if the owner does not repair them. If she agrees, my daughter will be moving. She took this week off to move which is a good thing. Instead of moving, she is taking me to the doctor’s appointments.

I wrote the above early this morning. I don’t know why I am forgetting to post. I went back to the eye doctor and everything is fine. I got distracted by paying my bills online.

We stopped for dinner at Applebee’s. It is the first time I have ate there. We got a lemon fettuchina with shrimp and a Ceasar Salad. It tasted very good. I was tired of getting fast food but it is cheaper than our meal today.

Shoot I have forgotten what I was going to say. I usually read the post so I remember but now they are on a different page.

Good to see you Cool G.

My post disappeared. I was saying that I love Applebee’s. I don’t go there as often because we usually go to Olive Garden. The DS likes to go there when we go on vacation.

I have had a very exciting morning!!!!!

DR LEW, it is too bad you can’t turn back the clock to your holiday. Now the only hope is to push through to Spring Break.

I don’t have a land line so this morning, after leaving my daughter at school, I drove over to my parent’s house to sit and wait for the phone to ring.

ASTI and I made arrangements yesterday to have a conversation by phone. She was lovely to call me from the UK to my parents phone. I was a wonderful conversation, a fabulous phone call, off and running and talking about this and that. We talked for over a half hour. It was wonderful, unrushed cozy conversation, except when I would become excited and tred to talk at the same time as ASTI. I had anticipated five to ten minutes and was worried about forcing everything I could think of in as quickly as possible.

ASTI has a lovely vowels from the roof of her mouth with crisp forward placed consonants. She has a very “grown up” voice. I loved it and had to fight myself from imitating it. Now I so wish I could go to visit the UK. I love traveling there but when I think of going to the UK now it is as much to visit with my friends as it is to see the sights.

I am running off the adrenalin from the call. I’m surprised I slept at all last night and I got straight up from bed and showered and dressed before 7 AM so I could take my daughter to school and head straight to my parent’s house. I would usually not have gone to the trouble of cleaning up and dressing for the day in street clothes until after taking my daughter to school.

Good evening!

I find myself ridiculously excited about that phone call! It was just lovely to talk to you, Lady Hawke, and I can’t believe how quickly the time went. The connection was so clear it was as if we were talking face to face; I wish we could one day! And I believe I heard your Mother’s voice in the background too, that was really nice.

Whilst waiting the day away until it was time to phone, daughter and I went to the library. She has been devouring books in this fortnight off school. I really must investigate the free stuff on the Kindle Fire and push her towards trying some. The library is becoming more and more of a challenge as she has read most of it!
I bought her a little book journal for Christmas. I keep one myself, and it is lovely to see her go to it after each book, and fill it in. I have told her to take it to school to show her teachers.

Yall do know that you can video Skype from computer-to-computer for free, right?

ASTI, six hours ago we were on our phone call. It is time for me to pick my daughter up from school. I do not know how you made it through the day until it was time to talk. I have been absolutely useless since we spoke. It felt like Christmas all over again and you were my present for the day.

I have to go get in line and when I return I will have to start making preparations for dinner. We are having roast beef, grilled onion and Swiss cheese sandwiches tonight. I never serve sandwiches for dinner except when we have hamburgers but I had some thinly sliced beef in the freezer and it suited my mood, hot sandwiches instead of a hot dinner. I will serve roasted potato planks on the side.

Just go to Skype.com, click the download tab, then pick your poison (computer, phone, tablet, etc.). It will then take you through the (free) registration and you’ll pick a user name. Just remember that computer-to-computer is free, but computer-to-phone has a price.

Super simple. Let me know if you get it, I’ll give you my user name and we can try out a call.

I had a Canadian on my dissertation committee and all of my committee meetings, including my oral comprehensive exams and dissertation defense, were over Skype. VERY hand, and awesome that it’s free – even for international computer-to-compter calls. Wolfie and I called each other a few times before we met, as I was planning my England trip.

Skype is pretty cool, sophisticated stuff… If you watch the evening news, I guarantee you have seen Skype in action many times when reporters were in hotel rooms, or remote locations with no access to a professional video studio. If you use a good quality camera, (most new camcorders have usb outputs & built in microphones) you can really send out a pretty respectable picture…

I’m going to check into Skype today and see if I can find my headset which I know I purchased to use for Skype. I think I set up an account when I first got my little mini HP years ago but the plug ins didn’t work for the headphones. I think I could plug into the audio but I had nowhere to plug in my microphone so someone could hear me. I’m not sure if that was the problem but I was never able to get it functional. I’ll try again with this laptop and see if it works better.

It is cold and rainy today. I have no interest in going anywhere but I’m certain I will be put under all sorts of pressure to go have fun.

If our vet is in today we are going to take our boy cat in. He is losing weight and is having lots of gagging, screaming and hair balls. Sometimes he bathrooms himself in inappropriate places. He is sixteen this winter/spring.

Our boy kitty is not in kidney failure but his kidneys are not working as well as they should. He was a 17 pound cat and he is down to 12 pounds. We are to change both our old cats to a special kidney diet. As long as our boy cat keeps drinking he should be okay for a while. We are very worried about him.

Good evening!

It’s been a good day! DS, son and daughter had tickets for a football match, so I planned an afternoon shopping. This turned into a plan to meet up with my Mum, who then arranged for my sister to join us………….which I only found out about through my sister posting about it on FB!! So, we had a nice afternoon. There was a lot of sitting in cafe’s and chatting, as Mum’s back is playing up a lot. She was also talking, again, of retirement. The trouble is, when things are going well, she loves what she does, and it is not an easy job to walk away from.

Lady Hawke, your poor boy cat. I hope the new diet makes both of them happier and more comfortable.

It has occurred tp me all our furry family are becoming old. The female cat was born July 5. 1998 so she is 14.5 years old. Our girl dog had her 7th birthday on Dec. 29 and our boy dog will turn 7 on Feb. 18. So, we have a housefull of senior pets. We did not think this out properly. It has not dawned on the female dog that she is now old. She is still a demented crazy wild creature and has never properly calmed down since puppyhood. The boy dog already has gray in his muzzle and on his ear tips, even though he is six weeks younger.

ASTI, it is lovely you were able to spend the day with your mother and sister, even nicer since it was an unexpected pleasure. We will have to make this Skype thing work. I looked at the international rates from the US to the UK and I shuddered. I hope you do not have a very unpleasant surprise when you receive your phone bill.

Hi folks, I dunno if any of you have gotten this email from Leaky or not, so I will C&P it below…

>>WON_TWO,

Ex-Leaky_Staffers has sent you a new personal conversation entitled “The hole got too big in the Cauldron”.

Ex-Leaky_Staffers said:

Hi everyone,

After experiencing what seem to be insurmountable (at least in the foreseeable future) technical and other problems over the past couple of years, most of the staff and managers in many teams (Forum Mods, Reading Groups, The Quibbler, etc) now feel unable to carry on here and have either become inactive or have informed Senior Admin Staff that they have stepped down and are now awaiting depipping as staff members. However, we strongly value the friendships, skills and connections we’ve developed here at Leaky and don’t want to lose that, so we’ve decided to move on to pastures new. We also want to widen our discussions to include more book, tv and movie discussions. Don’t worry, we’re not leaving Harry behind, we’ve given him a room of his own and it’s not just the one under the stairs http://www.leakylounge.com/public/style_emoticons/default/harry.gif. If you’re interested in visiting our new home you can find us at Discussion Station (http://www.discussionstation.com/)!
. Whether you visit or not we’d like to just say thanks for all the fun and discussions over the years and wish you happiness in your future discussions.

Wishing you all the best,

Ex_Leaky-Staffers<<

Won – what are they saying? Are they shutting down Leaky?? How could they do that with their HUGE success at LeakyCon??
What will happen to our page? I know that they are having huge problems when this page has not been updated to new poll in over a year. The count down clock was never updated to the new movies. I have not really visited any of the pages at Leaky in a very long time. If they are shutting down I am at fault too. :(

MM, I never check the News Page anymore and I haven’t used any of the rest of Leaky since LeakyCon 2011. I just come here.

OKAY, EVERYONE…. I have signed up for Skype and my headphone works and MOST UNFORTUNATELY, so does my camera on my laptop. So, that means I will have to dress up and spackle myself before I speak to anyone.

ASTI, get some Skype headphones and sign up. GRAYMAYNE, this means you too. I think WOLFIE JO already has Skype.

The only people I guess this really affects are my UK friends. The rest of us have learned to call each other at will and most of the rest of us have met each other. COOLG, I suppose you are the only one who has not met at least one person in real life. We have to remedy that.

WON, have you had a real life meet up with anyone?

Let’s see.

I met DEANIE and MR. DEANIE first when they came through here and we have seen each other twice now with plans to see each other again.

At LeakyCon 2011 I met LEMON, JEN, FELIPE, and RHIANNON.

At LeakyCon 2012 I added MM in addition to seeing LEMON, JEN and FELIPE again.

During Christmas I met DR. LEW

I’ve spoken to COOLG and ASTI by phone. I’ve spoken to LEMON, JEN and MM on the phone as well.

I came “this close” to meeting WON when we were in DC in Nov. 2011.

So, I’m not doing to badly.

I got a Skype account a few years ago, but only ever made one call with it. I don’t know if the account is still there or not. I am pretty sure my new laptop has both input and output audio jacks, so I can at least be sure to not show the disaster areas of my house as the background. I keep the camera lens covered with a very small square cut from a Post-It note, just in case the camera is ever on by accident.

Besides, I watch “Criminal Minds” and saw a couple of episodes where the bad guys spied on the victims via remote access throuh the laptop cameras. Okay, it may be a bit paranoid, but at least no one is going to see me in my nighty (or my altogether) unless I know about it. ;)

I suppose I should check about the Skype thing, but not for a week or two. I need to make reservations for the family reunion and go get my arm MRI done and then see both the Orthopaedic surgeon and my primary care physician. My dental insurance at work changed companies and I need to get this root canal in the tooth that I lost most of the filling from about 19 months ago.

I want to get all that taken care of before the family reunion in mid February. This year it is in Florida and if we had a few extra days, I would ask Felipe to try and meet up, but it will be a flying visit and we just will not be able to fit in any other visits. Maybe when we go to the theme parks to see the Christmas decorations in December 2013 or 2014. ;)

Hmm I don’t think I have a camera on either computer. I use to have one that was seperate but I don’t know where it is now. A camera on the computer was never on my priority list when buying a new one.

I am up early again. I was thinking I was going to be waking up at 6 AM but I went to sleep early. I have not been able to read for any length of time. After I get my other eye done, I will have to get reading glasses for a few weeks. That is why I haven;t been able to read right now because my glasses don’t work very well. They are too strong and make me feel a little nausious (sp) after awhile.

Morning all! Here I am, large as life and twice as lazy, lol. I have been rather absorbed by a jigsaw puzzle my DS bought for me on a whim as a Christmas treat. I haven’t done one for years and I am really enjoying my return to an old hobby. We signed up for Skype years ago when we were first involved in ukuleles but we haven’t used it for ages, and I don’t know where the headphones are. Like Lady Hawke and Deanie I am less keen on the camera side of things because I live an “indoor” life so my “outside” persona gets neglected. I will look into the matter. I suppose the prospect of Leaky going belly up should galvanise us into action. I have always checked out the news items but all the other sections have fallen into disuse.

Must have breakfast, half the morning has gone:(
