thanks graymayne and deanie and Mr Deanie too. Its gorgeous and such a nice present.

What problems are you having with the fire? I found that I struggled a little bit at first to understand how to get onto the apps etc, but its fine now. The worst thing with my fire is that I joined the amazon ‘1 click to pay’ scheme . . .having just seem my credit card bill that was definitely a bad bad bad idea

I got my Christmas tree from Mr. Deanie last year I think. Anyway, I have it on my bookcase all year long. The dust just slides off it thank goodness. Lol

I was talking to my brother and mentioned that the best photo of our other brother was taken at his wedding. I have always regretted that I did not order one for myself. I opened his Christmas card yesterday and the picture was in it. I was looking for a photo frame to put it in and found one still in the box. It is silver and very heavy. Any way it now sits beside his urn. I don’t know how much longer I will have him with me. My brother is coming to get him so we will have it at his memeorial next week.

The rain has already started here. It is suppose to turn into snow by this evening. We are suppose to catch only a small portion of the blizzard as it heads up toward MM way. My granddaughter just left for school. She is going to get wet going to her car. All of my first group of grandchildren now have their own car. I say first group because two of my daughters only had one child. Ten years later, they decided to have more children. I am only close to two of this new group because they live out of town or out of state. One of my grandsons is suppose to arrive home from Germany today. I hope I get a chance to visit with him but since he is newly married, you never know. I may just get a hug and then he will be gone somewhere else. Lol I don’t think I will see his older brother. He got married this summer too but he seldom comes to my house. I usually see him at his Dad’s. Since I am not driving until after I get my eyes done, I will probably miss him.

It gets harder every year to see the extended family. When we were younger, my brothers all came to my house for our Christmas get togethers. Since our children have grown and have faimly of their own, we are lucky to get together at all over the holidays. I am afraid that after I am gone, the extended family will drift apart.

Wolfie If BigG had not been around to enlighten me I might have become totally discouraged by the unfamiliar technology. I have no previous experience of touch-screen devices so the only gesture I have seen used is the pinching or widening of photos. I knew nothing about sliding down from the top of the screen, or tapping to enlarge print when reading the BBC News site. I’ve never used a touch-screen keyboard so pressing firmly on a letter to reveal specialized versions for foreign words would not have occurred to me. Usually pressing on keys merely produces a long line of type! What I really need is a User’s guide in printed form that I can refer to, not one built into the device, provided it was written in plain English, not Geek-speak. It’s getting better but I still get totally stumped.

MM. have you really not heard the world is ending tomorrow? You must have a much busier life than even we realized. This has been building up for years, decades. Tomorrow is D-Day. Either it all ends or we can put it in a box and forget about it. I think that has something to do with some of the horrific behavior of people in the recent days and weeks. Some people believe it, have lost all hope and are acting out badly.

COOLG, our family has not managed to get together since my oldest cousin turned 80, when I was 40 and my daughter was about 3 months old. My grandfather died in 1965 and my grandmother in 1973. My oldest aunt stepped in and acted as Matron of the family but she was not able to continue after the mid 80s and passed away in 2001. I had a cousin who was able to step in for my aunt and rally the family but she passed away about five years ago. Now, my uncle is gone and my mother is far from the family and not able to do anything, there is no one to hold us together. That is why I am going visiting to my girl cousins after Christmas. If I don’t none of us will stick together. They are the Matrons of their own families now. They have their own grandchildren and great grandchildren.

WOLFIE, good to see you (and sweet, innocent little Elmo, of course). You have been almost as absent as ADELLA and POTTERBOY. So, when are you headed this way? What are the travel plans?

I made my pumpkin bread last night and I’m about to go make crepes and put them between Saran Wrap and wrap them until I have the filling made. I have time to get them made and myself spackled to wait and see if I hear DR LEW has arrived in town early enough to go have lunch.

I use to make crepes in different shapes. I would deep fry them. I made the batter different colors and sprinkled powder sugar over the finished one. Then I would box them up and give as Christmas Presents to extended family and friends. They tasted delicious. I still have the different shapes utinsels. I wonder if the receipe is still with them?

I am debating on whether to mop the floors. I have already swept. I guess I should wait since it is going to be raining all day. I will need to mop after it all stops. I don’t expect any company since we are spending Christmas at my daughters. It is raining so hard that the dogs have not gone off the porch. I hope it will stop for a little while so they will want to go out. I have a little steam in front of the house and the dogs don’t want to cross it.

graymayne a printed user guide is a good idea. I had a few problems understanding how to download music from the cloud to my device and had to keep jumping backwards and forwards between the instructions and the cloud . .It got a bit confusing.

coolg I agree the deanie ornaments are nice enough to keep out all year. I’ve been trying to find somewhere I can put it up permanently after christmas is over.

LH I’ve been really busy with work and have been up and down the country to london, shrewsbury, cambridge and farnborough. I’ve barely been home so have not had time to get online. I’m so looking forward to having a week off next week as I can feel that I’m really tired.

I am over in the US in May. I’m very excited I just wish I could come and see all of you, but I only have 2 weeks. . . can you imagine what would happen if I travelled over there and didnt go and see lemon She would be so mad her head would explode right off her shoulders. When i was catching up on posts earlier today I noticed that you mentioned it was your birthday when I’m over there so we should definitely do a call.

elmo is reading your post with suspiciously narrowed eyes – he thinks you are being way too nice to him and might have a nasty surprise up your sleeve for him .. . like a large hard rock cookie that you will bounce off his head before laughing and running away. . . .I’ve promised to buy him a football helmet for christmas so that he can successfully deflect any cookie attacks from his castle friends.

BTW – I know I am a bad christmas card sender. I haven’t done them again this year. I was full of good intentions, but I literally have been getting up at 5am, travelling to the client and then getting to my hotel at 10-10.30 in an evening . . at which point I just fall into bed. So I’m sorry – I love getting all your cards and feel like a right heel not sending any out, but I promise next year things will be different :-)

I have a bit of a cold at the moment and am feeling a bit fluey so I wont be hanging around tonight but will hopefully get online tomorrow. If anyone needs any help wrapping presents then let me know and I’ll send elmo over

COOLG, I am making “savory” crepes for dinner on Christmas Eve. These are limp so I can fold them up like a burrito with filling inside. They are going to be filled with chicken, ham, mushrooms and onions with a Gruyere cheese sauce on top. If I have some left over I might make some sweet ones too.

Just heard from DR. LEW. She is making good time. As long as traffic stays with her she should arrive in time. :-)

THE BAD NEWS IS THAT ACCORDING TO THE MAYAN LONG COUNT CALENDAR, THE WORLD WILL END TOMORROW, DEC. 21ST, 2012…

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT IT IS ALREADY DEC. 21ST, 2012 IN SEVERAL PLACES AROUND THE WORLD!

WOLFIE, I would LOVE to talk to you after you arrive on my birthday!!!!! We can at least hear each other speak with our respective weird accents. Since we both come from the parts of our countries with accents that are a bit off of the “standard American/British” accents we are either not going to be able to understand each other or have no problem at all. When you arrive at your hotel you can email me and give me the phone number of the hotel and your room number and I can call you.

Don’t worry about the Christmas Cards this year. Your address is not on CC and I was in a hurry to send out my cards. I didn’t think to go dig your address out. I know I have it somewhere but with our bedbug situation I have stuff packed away and hidden from myself. I was overwhelmed.

Why would Elmo be suspicious of anything I have written in reference to him (even if am certain my tree doesn’t need any special attention)?

Won That is nice to remember about it being Dec. 21 in other parts of the world. The trouble with that is the Mayans were in South America so should be around our time zones. I am one of the ones that believe that the world will change as we know it. Maybe not tomorrow but soon. We are such an internet connected world and computer driven that the solar flares could be strong enough to disrupt everything. Remember all the scares in 1999 when it was changing to 2000? I felt we adverted a big one there but have they solved the problem and not just a patch?

The wind is really strong. It would be blizzard if we get a lot of snow. I hate it when the wind blows because it caused down tree limbs which cause down elelctric lines. It is getting cold so the rain might change to freezing rain which I hate too. I don’d mind just snow. It is the ice that causes most of the problems.

To use a terribly scientific cooking term, I have a “GOB” of crepes.

I am expecting to hear DR LEW has crossed the river at any moment. So, I need to be ready to jump in the car and go. I finished with the crepes at the right moment.

Good evening!

I am SO glad to be home from work! I am now off for three days. I have to work Christmas Eve, but then I have another four days off. My shift pattern has worked well for me this year. I am going to enjoy every minute of my time off.

Oh wow, Lady Hawke……so right now this minute you and LEW are together? That is a lovely thing to think about.

CoolG, my little tree from Mr. Deanie sits on one of my bookshelves all year too!

Wolfie, the "buy now with iclick " is a BAD BAD BAD button.

I am home. After we left DR. LEW I had to go to the grocery and pick up some sugar and things my mother needed to continue her holiday cooking. Then, I had to go get the things I needed for my part of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day food. I did not want to have to fo do heavy shopping this weekend. I will have to go in to get some tomatoes closer to time.

DR. LEW called as she was crossing the bridge and we started out to meet her. I had not calculated we would be going through the retail section of town en route to the restaurant so she beat us there. As I drove up I said to my daughter, “There is her car.” Yes, we can recognize each others cars when we haven’t yet met the other person. I had not yet seen the license plate.

We walked in and DR. LEW looked exactly as I had expected. We talked about all sorts of things and shared pork ribs for our lunch. She treated us to lunch which was quite generous of her. :-) I especially liked a story she told me about the family Christmas trees. It seems there are dinosaurs lurking on her mother’s designer “bird” tree. We were together about an hour and a half before we had to set out for the airport. We led the way into the airport complex and took her through the loop that leads past Baggage Claim for off loading passengers. We waved off and set out to do our grocery runs.

I am up again and feeling a little sad. I should be happy and I am but still sad at the same time. My daughter is not going to close on her house at the time she was suppose to. I expected that since something always happens to slow things up. So I wasn’t expecting her to move until at least another month. It seems she is going to rent her house until the closing so she will be moving next week as she had planned. This is probably good since she had taken days off from work to move. I was just expecting her to still be here next month too. The good thing is she has to come by the house on her way home from work so she can still stop by to check on me.

It is so nice that LH and Dr. LEW got to meet up. I just wish there was somewhere we could all meet up when Wolfie comes to the US. Oh well, it will be nice that she gets to meet some of us.

HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE!

GRAYMAYNE, I would guess you have already gone off to your Solstice lunch. I hope your DS remembered his camera.

It is a cold beautiful day here. The sun is not fully up yet but I can tell there are not clouds.

My DS is on his first day of holiday break from work. I intend to make the filling for the crepes I made yesterday and put them in the freezer until Monday morning. My recipe tells me where in the process I can stop and freeze the filled crepes.

I looked up the exact time of WINTER SOLSTICE. It was 5:12 AM Central Time in the US.

I’ve been waiting impatiently all day for the zombie apocalypse to arrive . . .its 5pm and still nothing. Honestly if people are going to waste time predicting the end of the world then they should at least get their facts right. I’ve got my bug out bag packed and ready to go :-) I was reading about people in Russia who paid £1000 each for a place in a bunker to hide out for the day. They’re entitled to a 50% refund if the world doesnt end. MM I hope you dont mind but I told a few work colleagues about the letter you received and they thought it was hilarious. One of the guys I managed actually choked on a mouthfull of coke.

PB on my CV in the hobbies section I’ve included ‘insulting PB’ as my favourite passtime. . . I hope you realise how selfish you are to have a life outside of leaky. If you arent around for me to insult then I have to direct my insults at other people . . .think of poor MM, Sirius and Ironsos who end up bearing the brunt of it. Honestly, the youth of today – selfish the lot of em.

Adella being trapped in a castle with vampires trying to suck your blood (hahaha just made lemon wince) and werewolves trying to tear of an arm or leg is a definite H&S risk . . . but diving headfirst into a pool of cookie goodness thats like heaven. I’ve been sending lemon a wish list of things she has to do for me when I visit her next year – is it rude for me to ask her to build a cookie swimming pool in her back garden? I’m not sure whether I’m pushing the bounds of our friendship and her well reknowned hospitality too far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LH I should call you when I get to lemons house then she can act as our interpreter :-) I actually had to deliver a web conference a couple of weeks ago about some research I’ve been conducting and most of the people in the conference where American. I had to make sure I was logged into my instant messenger so that my other colleagues online could message me when I was talking too quickly and not making sense. The most hilarious moment was when I recieved a message to ask me to speak up because my voice wasnt loud enough . . . I am well known in the office for having the loudest voice imaginable (in fact when I was younger my mum thought I had a hearing problem and thats why I shouted all the time so she took me to a specialist – turns out I just talk loudly). I actually copied and pasted the message and sent it out to everyone in my team so they could see it.

Lew how come you shared pork ribs with LH and not me? Somehow I feel cheated. Can we do veggie ribs when I come and visit.

coolg I would really have loved to meet up with more people. I’m hopefully going to get to see BWJen, LEW, lemon and Debi which is nice. If anyone is free to come up to meet me when I’m in New York then I have 3 days to fill. I need to speak to BWjen about her movements, but think as its a weekday she might be at work during the day. Hopefully I’ll get to see her in the evening.

Graymaye Happy winter solstice . . . .wish it was the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere too – then I’d be outside enjoying the sunshine.

Asti I need someone to break all my fingers so I can no longer press the 1click button. Last night I bought 5 new e books. I actually bought the sequel to a book that your daughter and *LH*s daughter might like (if they haven’t read it already). Its a series of 3 books by Gemma Malley the first one is called Declaration. Its a dystopian future novel set in the UK in a world where a drug has been developed so that people live forever. This means that there is a law banning people from having children. The book follows a ‘surplus’ – a young girl who’s parents disobeyed the law, so she was taken from them and put into an institution were she is being trained as a servant for rich people. Despite the subject matter its surprisingly easy to read . . and well thought out.

Whoooppeeeeeeeeeee there is an end of the world film on the SyFy channel. I can watch it while finishing up work. I’d better head off and try and get finished for the day. Once I close my work laptop I dont have to open it for 10 whole days yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Good evening!

My DS has now finished for Christmas. He worked ’til lunchtime, then endured a somewhat awkward Christmas lunch with his soon to be ex colleagues.

Some good news though. He had a phonecall today from the MD of another company, who asked my DS to email his CV. So, tomorrow will be spent scrabbling around, creating the first CV for 14 years! Wolfie, I am sorry to ask just as you are finishing work, but does your offer still stand? Reassurance and suggestions might well be needed!

Wolfie, have you found the link for the 20p Kindle books? They don’t add new ones that often, but I have picked up quite a few, notably the new C J Sansom, which has only been out in hardback for a few weeks!

Graymayne, a Very Happy Solstice to you. I hope you both had a lovely meal.
