Just received my Christmas card from DEANIE, thank you.

We made cookies for my daughter’s teachers after school yesterday.

Most fun was the peppermint candy trays we made to deliver the cookies on. They are made of starbright mints. Do you have mints in the UK that look like this, round white hard candy discs with red stripes on the edges?

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://us.123rf.com/400wm/400/400/mab0440/mab04401210/mab0440121000089/16026300-starlight-mint-candies.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.123rf.com/photo_16026300_starlight-mint-candies.html&h=804&w=1200&sz=197&tbnid=Shf1CD8wtc804M:&tbnh=90&tbnw=134&zoom=1&usg=__1GHaAFuvqbUg2QjaV_shCyIGztA=&docid=Q4JTKAhqOO0hLM&sa=X&ei=xUHLUPHlM6OPyAGLyIHwCQ&ved=0CFAQ9QEwBA&dur=420

It was quite easy to do and the results were much more impressive looking than the effort it took.

You put parchment paper on a baking sheet. Then, you unwrap each candy and line them up in rows, about .25 inches (6mm) apart as many wide and long as you wish. Then, you put the tray in a lowish oven, about 300F (150C) and leave them there about seven minutes before you start watching them. Once they melt together you take them out and let them cool and they become a tray to serve cookies, etc. or chargers for serving dishes, but NOT HOT dishes as they would melt. You can make them into configurations for coasters.

If you work fairly quickly you could cut them into shapes with cookie cutters and make ornaments. I was a little afraid of that as there is a fine line between working with molten candy and working fast enough that the candy is still warm enough to cut and put a hole through it for a piece of string to hang it.

LH, those peppermint trays sound like a really cute idea. I’m going to have to remember that!

DR.LEW, I put a Pinterest link about these candy trays up on my Facebook page yesterday. The trick is to use the cheapest peppermint candies you can find, the ones with the red only on the edges, not the good ones with the red swirls to the middle. The cheap ones melt nicer.

Taking a break. I have been working all morning on my Christmas Cards. I finally have my Leaky ones done. Now I need to start on my family. I seem to do this every year. You would think I would do my family first. Lol I am starting on another box of cards. I must have bought these last year and didn’t use any of them. I only bought one box this year. I only send out a few to my family. I don’t have everyone’s address. Several have moved to new homes but failed to send their new address.

Need to eat something.

18 elementary school kids & 8 adults killed at a school at Newtown CT… I am just sick….

There has been a horrendous shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut. So far they are saying 26 or 27 dead, 18 of them children. This is a school for children who are typically five to ten years old.

It is not confirmed yet but it may have started from a fight between a father and the principal. It appears an entire Kindergarten class is unaccounted for. So, they are assuming the Kindergarten class was the scene of the shooting.

It makes me want to go to school and get my daughter and bring her straight home.

I have to go to the bookstore to pick up the last Christmas present for my daughter. If it is there I need to get it but it doesn’t seem as an important part of my day as it seemed this morning.

I just walked through the office of my daughter’s school this morning, carrying those peppermint trays of cookies. She escorted me down the hall to her classrooms and to the band room, delivering trays. No one challenged me. In the elementary school you can’t get in unless you go through the office and are buzzed in. The flexibility of the middle school suddenly doesn’t seem such a good idea.

Now they are saying 20 children, six adults, one of them the mother of the shooter, one of them the principal of the school. They are saying all the killings were in one section of the school and in two rooms. There is another adult, presumably the shooter’s father, in a house near the school.

Yes, one entire kindergarten class is unaccounted for.

The father is in a house in New Jersey. All those states are so close together I guess they lived in New Jersey and she worked in Connecticut.

I went and purchased tickets to see The Hobbit tonight. I don’t want to sit here and watch this all night.

My daughter is the type that would go and try to intervene. It frightens me to death. Her name means Noble Protector of Man. She always seems to think if she gets in the middle of something she can control altercations. I need to make her understand that as a child she just needs to GO, GET OUT!

I finally turned off the TV regular stations after we found out most of the terrible news. Now it seems to be on the news this morning. Somehow they have more reports from the kids. I just can’t understand this.

I put the stamps on my cards this morning and took them out to the mail box. I didn’t realize that it was still dark until I went outside. Now I need to hunt up my relatives address. I have them written down in my book but I don’t know if they still have the same address.

I have finished my Christmas Cards. I mailed to my family that I had address for. I know my Granddaughter moved into a new home this year but as normal, she didn’t give me her new address. The same for her mother. I never know her address or where she is living. I do keep up with them on Face Book but that doesn’t give me the new address.

I think I will bake some muffins for breakfast.

Just got a good look at myself. If you didn’t see me in bright light, I would look good! You wouldn’t know how old I was. Turn up the lights and then you would get a shock! My hair is shoulder lengthand stylish, I am slim but still have a good figure when I have clothes on. Maybe that explains why I was whistled at when I was walking to a store. They were too far away to realize how old I was. Lol

I have put on a pork loin roast for dinner. Thank goodness I remembered to put it on in time for it to be done by dinner time. Since I cook it in a slow cooker but cook it on high it takes longer than if I cooked it in the oven or just on the stove top. The muffins are already ate. They were blue berry and so good.

I am doing most of my cooking for today and tomorrow now. My tree is almost finished and we intend to go get my parent’s tree standing tomorrow.

I have roasted some chicken and some mixed vegetables to go with it. I’ve also grilled some beef ribs.

I feel incredibly sad and anxious today. There has been such terrible news from so many places.

My daughter and I are headed to my parent’s house to start working on their tree.

Good evening!

I am glad to feel like posting again. It’s been a tough few days.

CoolG, from the photos I have seen, you certainly do look a lot younger than your years. I am glad you’re feeling good about yourself, enjoy!

Lady Hawke, I hope the tree has gone well, and that you have had a fun time with your parents and daughter.

xxxxx to you all.

We have my parent’s tree standing with the lights on and working. It is a very heavy and cumbersome tree. For a normal size home it is quite tall, maybe 7.5ft (2.28m) and I know it must be 4.5ft (1.37m) wide at the base. There are many, many branches with many, many tips. I had to drag it in from the garage, up the wheelchair ramp and through the kitchen to the den. We secured the sections and managed to stand it up. Once we stood it up I managed to lift it a little off the ground and my daughter led the trunk into the stand.

We managed one small steamer trunk of ornaments before it was time to come home for the night. My great grandmother used the trunk on her trip to England and France in 1933. So, the trunk has some family history as well. It has been on two TransAtlantic sailings.

We will go back tomorrow and do more ornaments but we left my parents with something to look at tonight.

This is the finale of Survivor tonight so we are going into popcorn mode here.

I am so glad I had soccer games this weekend to distract me from the horror in CT. As a public school worker and front office personel, it is my nightmare to think I can buzz in a mass murderer. He shot his way in and all our doors are GLASS doors. They could not hold anyone wanting access to the school. :(

We practice lockdown drills twice a year. My job is to get on the intercom and announce a lockdown. I have two sentences to recite but now…in retrospect ….seeing the breakdown of this past event, I don’t see how I could have enought time to recite the words in time to warn the school. I really think it should just be a button I press. Like the ones banks have. Some silent alarm.

It horrifies me and I feel so bad for all those little children. Then I think of my daughter and daughter-in-law who are also teachers and would in an instant give up their lives for their students. Don’t even mention my son who is a police officer and woud need to go be a first responder in a case like this. It just brought it all home for me. :(

Thank you for letting me express my horrific fears to you. :(
hugging you all. {{{{{{Hug}}}}}
