That is funny. My local TV news channel announced the pregnancy of the Duchess of Cambridge just ahead of the official British Monarchy Facebook page.

I sort of hope the baby is a girl, the first female heir to the throne who will be born heir and not waiting around to see if a brother shows up.

Lady Hawke I can appreciate your attachment to your Christmas treasures. We had a rather spindly imitation tree which was unwrapped each year and decorated by my Dad with my assistance with the unwrapping of the ornaments and the attaching of a hook. I can remember some of them quite vividly, they were all very delicate and easily broken. The tree was put together on Christmas Eve and taken down again on Twelfth Night. Mother was always busy with her mother in the kitchen preparing the stuffing for the turkey and the breadcrumbs for the bread sauce. After Granny died I was pressed into service grating the bread, not my favourite chore.

I am sorry that the Duchess is having such a horrid time with morning sickness and has been admitted to hospital for a good rest. They would probably have witheld any announcements until the first twelve weeks were over except for this upset.

I ended up spending the day with my parent’s at the doctor again. On Wednesday we were there to get their usual three month prescription refills. Friday we were there to get my father x-rayed after he fell Thursday night. We were back today because he felt a bit dizzy and weak. I didn’t think there was really an issue today. He is on pain killers for his hand with the neural damage from the shingles so he is a bit woozy from them from time to time.

So, I am far behind on my housework around here. Tomorrow my mother and I have hair appointments and my daughter has her Christmas concert in the evening. In addition to the hair appointments we must purchase a post office box to have mounted on the house so my mother will not have to walk down the drive to the mail box across the street. AND I found out the reeds we purchased for my daughter’s clarinet on Saturday were the wrong size so I must drive in town to exchange reeds tomorrow morning. I am picking my mother up after 9 AM for another long day. Then, Wednesday will be Wednesday.

I so hope I get to stay home on Thursday and Friday.

My daughter tells me the principal/head master spoke over the intercom system today, telling them no roll would be taken on Monday or Tuesday, Dec. 17 & 18. The school doors will be open and there will be some teachers there to watch those who show up but they are requesting the students not come to school if they or their parents have any alternative for their care those days. The school website indicates there is end of semester testing on those days but the students are being informed their testing will actually all be next week. It seems the school district does not authorize Christmas parties for Middle School students so the school has chosen to call them celebrations. I am to acquire appropriate party foods to send to school for the celebrations. It appears the school is in a state of insurrection, led by the principal.

Morning

Lady Hawke I didn’t realize you were still in disaray from the bed bugs issue. How long do you have to wait until you can use the bedroom again?

I have a lot of my daughter’s things here. I really won’t know what to do with room when she finally gets her things moved to her new house. I need to get a new bed for company after she moves. I don’t think she is going to let me have my trundle bed back. I mentioned that I would like to have it back and she hem hawed about needing it for her new home. Since she won’t have a basement maybe she’ll let me have it back. I will have to buy new mattresses for it since the ones for it got water damaged. Who knows, I may have to buy a complete bed.

I need to get ready to go get my eyes checked. We are not going until this afternoon but I need to have time to rest after I get ready. Wouldn’t you know now that I am getting them checked, I can see a little bit better out of my right eye. It has been so fussey that I couldn’t see anything clearly out of it. That is a problem when you are a diabetic and it affects your eyes. They are never the same on a daily basis. Some don’t want to give you a prescription for glasses. They want you to use reading glasses. This doesn’t work for me since I can’t see well at a distance without prescription lenses.

Evening all! We are in for a progressively chilly week:( Today I ordered some Christmas cards online from a cancer charity which feels a bit odd. I have been designing and printing my own cards since 1999, but my hardware has let me down. I have just taken my third antibiotic capsule of the day, I find it a chore.

BigG’s firm has moved to premises in Windsor and this evening he is dining out. I hope the food is good. Unfortunately the cost of living will go up.

I’m back from getting my eyes checked. It took forever. No glasses right now. Instead I have to have cateracks taken off both eyes. Then I will probably only need reading glasses. I seem to remember that Ironsos had this done not long ago. So all of next month will be taken up with follow up check ups etc.

Nassa has said the world will not end on Dec.21. They have checked the sky and no asteriod, comet , or anything else will hit the earth. Nice to know. Lol

Cool G: There were 3 follow ups with my surgery with one more in April.
As they say “results may vary” yet I am extremely happy with the results
of mine. I had a two/three day, I can’t remember wait between surgeries.
No discomfort and LOTS of eye drops. I only need reading glasses and
my vision is now 20/20.

We are back from my daughter’s Christmas Band Concert. It is amazing to me how much they have learned in 3.5 months of playing their instruments. The sixth grade played two pieces and it sounded as if they were a unit.

COOLG, both my mother and MIL need to have cataracts removed. This will be the second set for my MIL. I am tempted to get appointments with them for the same doctor and have their surgeries done the same day and then line them up and put drops in their eyes. I had no life while I was putting drops in my DS’s eyes after he had his lasix surgery. Some of his drops were every hour. Some were every three hours. Some were every four or every six. I can’t remember now but I had to write a chart and keep up with it for three days.

Don’t worry, LH, I told him about my HP tree very early in our relationship.

He’s being really cute. He’s not much of a holiday guy, but I live for Christmas, so he’s trying really hard to get into it because he knows how much it means to me. I think I got a good one. :D

Now I know why I was thinking about not putting up my big Christmas tree. Just dragging the tree out plus the decorations has made me very tired. I will have to rest awhile before I can start putting the lights on. I just hate not having a big tree and other decorations up at Christmas time. I don’t even think about decorating outside now. I just don’t want to become someone who doesn’t decorate at all for Christmas. I am one who keeps my tree up until sometime in February before I take it down. This comes from never having time to take it down until after I had the year end things down for accountingl.

COOLG, a lot of us are struggling over our tree issues this year. My friend who went to LeakyCon with me is under a lot of pressure at work and she doesn’t have any children. It is just her and her husband. She is determined to put up her big tree, even though she doesn’t have the time or the energy, because she is convinced that if she lets it go one time she will have set a precedent and will never bother to do it again. It will always be too much trouble and, having failed to put it up once, she is afraid she will just get in the habit. She said she did not put her tree up the year she got married because the wedding was in December and they ran off on their honeymoon to London so it seemed like too much to put up a real tree, so she put up a little one. She said it was the saddest thing and she wishes she had not put one up at all. She has taken a lot of trouble with her big tree, collecting ornaments, putting on things that have meaning to her. She said she has always tried to copy my parent’s tree so putting up a little substitute did not work for her emotionally.

Good evening!

Work is getting really busy. People are spreading their shopping more this year, taking more care with money. There is no overtime available, which means I can’t earn extra money, and also means there are no extra people to lighten the workload. It’s tough.

I got a card from Rhiannon yesterday. Thankyou! I do love getting cards from all of you, it really is very special.

CoolG, I am glad you’re still doing your tree. Just take your time, there is no hurry. Enjoy doing little bits when you feel like it!
Please don’t forget to let us know when you have your eye surgery. I hope it goes as smoothly for you as it did for Ironsos, and that you notice as big an improvement.

Lady Hawke, might you and your daughter be able to get out some of the decorations, tell your stories, then, instead of the tree, string them up? Maybe loop them round the kitchen at ceiling level, out of the way of the pets? I am trying to think of some way you can reinvent some of your Christmas traditions without being able to have the tree. Our little traditions are important to us….even my 16 year old son is still looking forward to making cookies for Father Christmas! I hope you find a way.
Congrats to your daughter for her concert, and I hope your Wednesday hasn’t been too stressful.

LEW, he sounds lovely!

Evening all! My card from Rhiannon arrived this morning along with two others. I feel very strange not having any cards ready to send off at this point. I have transferred my Xmas Card List Table from my laptop to the PC, so at least I can keep track of what has arrived.

I am putting my heaviest duvet on my bed tonight because the weather is turning colder. I really do not enjoy winter. I’m just drinking my hot chocolate before I tackle the duvet again.

LadyHwake – I feel your pain about your tree. I was so grateful when my daughter put the tree up for me. It takes so much energy to do it.

I did not take my lights off my tree last year. I remembered that I just got too tired to do them. The only thing I had to do was find the ends to plug them in. I can not believe that all of them still work. I did find my fiber optic Christmas Angel topper so it is back on my tree. I thought I had lost it last year but not long ago I found it put away on a shelf. I have made room for my tree by not putting the back limbs out fully so I can put it closer to the wall.

I am thinking about putting some lights in my windows. I usually put lights on my fense but I don’t think the dogs would leave them alone. I am going to put some trim on the tree so I won’t have to put a lot of ornaments on.

MM, I know you hate to have to go back to the doctor and more testing, especially this time of year, but we don’t want you hitting the floor.

I don’t have to go purchase Christmas Cards. I found several boxes when I rearranged one of the hall linen closets back in the spring. I just have to go get them out of the closet and write on them.

I have some laundry and cooking to do today but maybe I will make myself go and pick up a box and start writing.

ASTI, I have considered what you have suggested. I lay on my poor little mattress and looked up at the walls, trying to figure out how to attach strands of lights on which I could hang ornaments without defacing the walls or having to climb a ladder too many times. I would have to feel the attachments were very secure if I were to hang the ornaments on them. My walls are between 10ft (3.05m) and 13ft (3.96m) high. The ceilings are all 13ft high but in the 10ft wall areas they slant in to the 13ft sections. The walls are all lined in furniture and the kitchen is in the 13ft high section.

I know I am being difficult. You are giving me very good ideas of how to get something going here and I keep shooting them down. I’m just not seeing myself up on a ladder, with my arms over my head, reaching across furniture 10 – 13 ft in the air trying to drive nails into the top of the ceiling molding to keep from driving nails into the walls. I wouldn’t want to trust those stick on temporary wall hooks with the ornaments and I don’t want to drive nails into the wall board.

I’m also still working on my DS about the idea of moving ourselves back into the bedroom. I haven’t seen anything for weeks. I’ve had a few bug bites but I almost always have bug bites somewhere on my body year round. I am very tasty. Any time I get a new bite he becomes convinced it could be a bedbug bite. If we wait until I have no insect bites in December with weather over 70F (21C) we will never go back to our bedroom. I was outside grooming the dogs in a t-shirt and shorts on Sunday. I’m certain I was bitten outside.

My DS was bitten but never to the extreme I was bitten. Just like mosquitoes, they loved me. If I was available to bite they chose me. So, he has a much less educated perception of what a bedbug bite looks like.

I am not seeing any evidence of them on the white sheets we are using. When you have bedbugs coming after you some of them are killed when you roll over on them. On white or light colored sheets you will see a spot or smear of blood. The body of the bug just disintegrates. There is nothing left to see when you crush them except your own blood. I am not finding anything like that. Our sheets for our real bed are burgundy colored so blood spots are not so obvious so we quit using them during this time in favor of white sheets pulled out of my mother’s linen cabinet.

He is erring on the side of great caution. If there is even one adult pregnant female left in the house we could be overrun if we do not continue with diligence. I just don’t see why we can’t keep up the didligence and move our air mattresses back into the bedroom. Just sleep in the bedroom and let me have access to the corner by the fireplace where I put my tree.

We originally moved out when we knew they were in the bedroom and we put up barriers they had to cross that would kill them when they followed us. A few made it through and we have dealt with them. I am fairly convince whatever may have still been in the bedroom has had plenty of time to try to follow us across the barrier at the bedroom door. So, now I am proposing reversing the process. If there is anything left out here I am suggesting we lure them back across the barrier.

He is afraid they have gone into hibernation in the bedroom and have not followed us. I have told him I believe they would have just followed us. It is not as if they have any idea of a door being closed when they simply crawl under it with more than a cm to spare to come for us. They can hibernate for up to 18 months. I can see where this is going. Way deep down he doesn’t want to move back into our bedroom for 18 months.

I am going to try and get my Leaky cards written tomorrow. I’m not sure when the last posting date for the US is, but I don’t want to miss it!

Lady Hawke, I really think that your DS is being over cautious, and you need to try and force the issue. Not only because of the tree, but to be camped out like that must be horrid. For all your sakes, I hope your house is back to normal asap.
Ok, this is my last Alternative Tree Idea! Take out the ornaments, tell your stories with your daughter, take pictures, then pack the ornaments away. Blow up the photos, decorate with glitter/tinsel/sprigs of holly, and hang haphazardly throughout the house.
