Okay, IRONSOS, I can see your point. Would someone there help you move?

GRAYMAYNE, I believe you will find your inbox quite full again.

Good evening!

I was incredibly lazy this morning, and didn’t wake up ‘til 9.45! I couldn’t believe I’d slept that late.

We have pre ordered a Kindle Fire for daughter’s Christmas present. She is going to be amazed on Christmas morning. I hope to be able to link it to my own Amazon account.

Ironsos, I’m pleased you like the room. It sounds like it will have it’s advantages. Is it just one room, with a bathroom?

LEW, hi, and hugs!

Graymayne: I have made a couple lists to help with the move. Went through each room
to decide what I want to/not keep. Need to get a set of headphones to keep noise from tv
down since I am a little hard of hearing.

Asti: Short entry hall has closet and bathroom entries and opens to a room about 15×15(4.57×4.57)

Hi DR. LEW, come back and tell us how things are going when you get a chance.

ASTI, I’m certain your daughter will be thrilled. My daughter’s Kindle Fire practically grows from her hand. With it being broken the next week until the replacement comes will be a long one.

IRONSOS, I’m glad there is someone to help you move.

Lady Hawke, I won’t leave the house without my Kindle. I have the Kindle app on my iPad, but much prefer reading on the Kindle.
Your daughter is my only reference to the Fire. It’s not out here quite yet. Her enjoyment of it has certainly been a factor in our decision to get one for our daughter.
I still buy far too many real books, and will wait for a real book if it is one I really want, just so I can have it on my shelves. Having it on the Kindle is still not quite the same as owning the physical copy. I am in love with my iPad, and am SO happy to be able to get daughter the Kindle Fire. She is going to LOVE it. And she has no idea that getting one is even a possibility.
Is your daughter’s Fire on your Amazon account? I take it it is easy to set up?

Hi all.

Things are pretty crazy. I’m keeping up with my classes, though am slightly behind on grading and midterm grades are due by Monday. I’m not really sure how to do those…

I still haven’t found time to do any research since I got here, and I’m way behind at the Museum with my curatorial responsibilities. Every time I walk into my office my predecesor has left something new on my desk to take care of and I just can’t get it done right now. After leading tours and field trips and answering emails, I start to panic about getting lectures done, so I go back to that. The museum is definitely getting the short end of the stick right now, though I’m trying to not let that show. I don’t want to say that I’m overwhelmed because then it sounds like I’m unqualified and unprepared for my job, but things are piling up a bit in some departments.

We also have our big annual paleo conference next week. I’m giving a talk and I haven’t even STARTED putting it together yet. I’m really counting on being able to just reorganize some things from my PhD defense talk and don’t really have to make too many new powerpoint slides. My talk is also the afternoon of the last day of the conference, so I have the whole conference to work on it. Mostly I’m just excited to get out of teaching 4 classes and eating BBQ….

As a side note, I totally picked the wrong time to start dating….

Whew. Sorry for the whining, but I haven’t really been able to be truthful about how I’m doing when people ask me because I don’t want to admit that the museum isn’t getting 50% of my time and sometimes I feel things pile up too high (see, I still can’t use the term “overwhelmed”).

My daughter’s Kindle is on the family Amazon account since neither of us have Kindles. I have my father’s Kindle on one of my secondary emails.

My daughter loves her Kindle Fire to watch music videos on Youtube and movies on Netflix. She has her own group of “imaginary” friends who I have made her promise NEVER to reveal her identity or location. She knows some of them are in England and Australia from comments they make about going up to London or by expressions they use. My daughter is not on Facebook. I worry more about online bullying from people she sees everyday than from people she has never met. If someone gets mean the group chastises them and if that doesn’t work they ostracize them and refuse further communications. The website she is on is very anonymous. She has real lfe friends who go there and they can’t find each other.

DR. LEW, I’m certain the powers that be realize how out of control your predecessor left things. I know you would like to be current and innovative sooner and not later, but you are one person in a new job. You’ve put your personal life on hold for too long. Don’t wait forever. Time can pass you by if you don’t seize it and go along for the ride.

Enjoy that nasty vinegar based BBQ, if you can. Enjoy having a little more elevation, anyway.

Dr. Lew. Not whining …. But friends that listen. You have a lot on your plate. They can’t expect you to excel the first few months. That takes years. Next year you will do better and the year after that and so on. Also, as a mother, I am so glad you are dating. You need romance in your life. Don’t regret that for a minute. No job is worth loosing the possible Mr. Right. :D

I am glad you are moving. Is it far from where you are right now?

Good evening!

Daughter and I made chocolate gingerbread today, covered in chocolate icing. As well as the chocolate, it involves quite sinful amounts of golden syrup and black treacle. The recipe made a HUGE amount, so I am leaving several platefuls in The Great Hall for you all to enjoy, though I take no responsibility for any weight gain!

DR. LEW, I am not surprised you feel you have rather a lot on your plate. You WILL get things just as you want them, but you need to give it time. You have never been in a situation like this before, you will find a balance between the two sides.
Are you still getting support from your senior collegues? Do you have a mentor with whom you could talk things through? Good luck, you wonderful woman!
And I am delighted you are dating! I know you’ve always had a great social life, but dating is different. I am glad you have something so positive to focus on outside of your work.
