Whoops, sorry, wrong button!

MM, I am glad your family gathering was such a success! I hope you had an easier day today, and get to rest a bit.

ASTI, are the people you listed as your favorites because you love to hate them or have they turned out to be some of the better people? I haven’t read as far as you have.

I think Asti has solved my problem of whether to get the book. If she doesn’t care for any of the characters, then I am sure I wouldn’t. As I said before, I don’t like reading a depressing book. I find the tears flowing when I read a sad part of a good book.

I have made myself stay awake today and tonight. I am hoping to get back on a more regular sleep schedule.

This is better. I fell asleep after 11:30 and woke up this morning a little after 5 AM. This is a more normal sleep pattern for me.

My trash has been picked up on Wednesdays around 6 PM since last spring. Last week they came around noon so I didn’t have my trash can near the road. Yesterday I took the trash out and moved the can next to the road. It is a good thing because they have just came by to pick up the trash. This is at 8:15 AM. I wonder how many others have failed to put their cans near the road this early. You would think they would give you warning if they were changing the pick up times.

graymayne I didnt realise there were other books. I just read the first one. I really liked it and liked the mystery behind the ending . . . maybe I should leave it at that and not read any of the other books if it will ruin the story for me.

I am off to my bookclub tonight so it will be interesting to see if anyone else enjoyed it or not

This is shopping day. I was out all day yesterday, unexpectedly. Now I’ll be gone again all day today. I desperately need to stay home and do laundry. I have a load in the drier from yesterday and a load in the washer from last night. I need to stay home and fold and dry and hang some more.

I don’t have a “safe place” where I can throw a pile of laundry to be folded later. Everything is coming out, being folded and going into plastic bags. I don’t have time to take care of what I have in the process before I leave home.

I have finished A Casual Vacancy.

Lady Hawke, Definitely the former!

I really don’t want to say anymore about the book until you, and others who are reading it, have finished. Then I would very much like to discuss aspects of it.

*Graymayne,?? how are you getting on with it?

Won thanks for the tip. I tried it and this is the message I got : Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities (what are they?) or other programs that are using this drive (would that be any of my anti-virus, etc software that are is use?) and make sure that no window is displaying the content of the drive. Then try formatting again. … do I need to uninstall the anti-virus, anti malware, etc software I have and then try to format ? Thanks. I know you gave me a link to an eraser download a few years ago that all I had to do is download it and run it and it cleaned everything out and solved my problem then. Do you still have that link? I didn’t save it :-(. I do have a valid, legally owned Windows x/p disk…. thanks

Asti I am reading in short bursts between chores and I am enjoying Jo’s “voice”. I think the last chapter was the chaotic maths lesson. I find “Fats” a rather detestable young man. For a couple of years in my late twenties I worked as a visiting officer for the DHSS so some of the characters are not unfamiliar. I only stuck it for two years, you either have to grow a thick skin or get out before the whole scene gets you down.

Off to bed, I’m whacked.

I just read an article about the usage of the words autumn and fall. As I’m certain GRAYMAYNE would tell us the original English word for this season was Harvest but in the 16th century as people moved toward cities harvest became an agricultural event and the words autumn and fall came into usage in reference to the season.

It seems the British favor the word Autumn and perceive the word Fall to be a bit “archaic and poetic” and the US primarily uses the word fall and views Autumn as “archaic and poetic”.

We are having some lovely days this week, even a bit warm, up to 88F (31.1 C) today and tomorrow but Saturday we are only expecting a high of 58F (14.4C) with rain again. So, I’m certain I will be chilled and miserable with that big of a shift in our weather.

Graymayne we reviewed K-Pax at the book club last night and everyone really liked it . ..we had a long discussion about whether we actually wanted to go to K-Pax or not. I mentioned your comment about there being additional books in the series and we all agreed that we wouldnt want to read them and that we liked the ambiguity of the original novel.

Good evening!

I woke up this morning feeling pretty grotty with the start of a cold, so I am doing my usual and overdosing on Vitamin C to try and fend it off! I also have a very wierd craving for black tea, which I have never, ever had before! I have to say, it’s very refreshing!

Asti: Must be something in black tea that your body needs.

Am I the only one here who is not a fan of Nutella?

Am a total fan of this station. Sydney Australia. 16 hrs ahead it time so I get a lot of early morning programs
which are great.

I’m watching the first episode of CALL THE MIDWIFE. It appears we have it fairly quickly here. I do wish we could just manage to see the televsion from either side of the Atlantic when it is current.

ASTI, I thought Lipton, the most common brand of tea, was made of black tea. We put lemon and honey in tea when we are fending off colds and flus. Many people here prefer it that way all the time. I am sorry you are not feeling well.

Hello, JOSEPHINE, come back and tell us once you think once you are finished. I am going quite slowly but I am anxious to discuss it when I am finished.

WOLFIE, I entertained my MIL today with tales of your exploits, the recent calendar mishap, the camel, the missed plane with no hotel to be found in London and the horrible night trip to Manchester on the train.

Sorry, IRONSOS, quite a fan of Nutella here, even generic store brands. Jif peanut butter now has a mocha hazlenut spread, very much the same thing as Nutella, but even more calories and fat. I am happy with Nutella and its other generic knockoffs. Why did Jif need to make something even more decadent?

Next to the never spilling bucket of milk the butter art work was a favorite of mine at the state fair in my youth.

Wolfie Amazon has the other novels in the series so you can read other readers’ opinions. Several stated that they thought the first book was the best.

Lady Hawke I loved Call the Midwife, it is quite an eye-opener about mid-wifery in the earlier period of the 20th century and good use of a very tall actress who usually performs in her own comedy series which didn’t appeal to me, so I never watched it.

After all the work and preparation we did for the council asbestos check no-one turned up! This morning my DS rang the firm and was asked to give his phone number but there was no subsequent call-back. We are not best pleased.

My neighbour brought up the surplus food she had following a visit from relatives, so we had our first experience of shop-bought tortillas. We were underwhelmed:( Now at least we do not feel that we are missing an eating experience we might enjoy. I can turn out a much better-tasting dish using my pancakes/crepes with a savoury filling and my own home-made sauce. I realise that my version requires us to sit down and use cutlery but flavour, not convenience, is our greatest concern.

Asti We watched Hunted tonight and found it fast-paced but good quality entertainment. It reminded me a little of Nikita the Australian series which used to be on late at night. I was a real fan of that.

Will do, Lady Hawke. I am slowly reading TCV because I am actually reading, and almost done with, the first book in the Nicholas Flamel series(the Alchemist). Just couldn’t resist starting JKR’s newest.

ironsos no sympathies from me. I absolutely luuuurve my Nutella! I even use it as filling in between layers of chocolate cakes, a bit melted so I can easily spread it. Nom nom nom.

Josephine I havent been anyplace online to see CHIB, even in passing. I’ll go look for them tonight. ;)

My right arm has been painful for the past 3 weeks or so. I finally realized that I may have a hairline fracture in my humerus bone. So I’m going to see my doctor tomorrow. They cannot “set” it, but they can x-ray it and rule out other stuff, or refer me to a specialist, if I need one. Just using my trackball is highly uncomfortable. Typing, unless done very carefully (slow), gets into the area of decided pain! ;)

So I will be lurking or flurking, but not too often. ;)

Funny how memories come back to you. I remember I was playing the piano and my mother and I were singing a song. I was taping it for some program we were doing at church I think. It was probably for……vacation bible school. Anyway it sounded like one person. My mother and myself sounded so much alike that you couldn’t tell the difference or seperate our voices. I wonder what happened to that tape?
