Asti Of course your branch falls apart when you aren’t there! Thanks for the heads up about Jo on TV, I’ve used a sticky note on my PC wallpaper to remind me.

morning all

I’m going through serious book withdrawal today. When I finished my interview on Wednesday I had a few hours to spare before my train and found the box set of the Hunger Games for £6 in HMV. I originally bought the books when they where first released, but when I had finished I lent them to my niece – who then took possession of them and I’ve never been able to get them back. I havent read them in so long I thought it would be good to do a re-read . . .I’d forgotten just how good they were. I couldnt put them down. I ended up reading the 1st and 2nd book on Wednesday evening (I didnt get to bed till 4am). Then I stayed up till 2am this morning reading the last book. Now I am at a loss as to what I should do with my time. I suppose I could always do some work :-)

asti we always knew you where indispensible :-)

ooooh and some good news. I got my brand new car today (its a Nissan Quashqai) . Its fab . . it has a video camera to help with reversing, an iPod dock and best of all a smart dashboard with a screen that tells me what song is playing on the radio. I’m driving over to Hull this evening to stay with my brother and am really exited at getting some time to go on a proper drive

I’ve added the link below if anyone is interested in seeing what it looks like

http://www.nissan.co.uk/GB/en/vehicles/crossovers/qashqai.html#vehicles/crossovers/qashqai,psyma

right back to work for me

have a good weekend everyone in case I dont get back later today

Thank you for the anniversary wishes.

Posting before my trip. I am not sure where we are going but I really don’t care. I took today off and the DS has left soccer instructions for his assistant coaches. I will enjoy my overnight trip.

I will post from the road. :)

It is dark and grumbly here today.

I have some fish to cook for tonight along with some snow peas, portobello mushrooms, and potatoes. I think I am going to do a quick stir fry of the mushrooms and snow peas with some onions. I’ll bake the tilapia in some sort of sauce and I’ll make some potato planks.

Tomorrow I have ribeye steaks.

We put my DS on a plane for Las Vegas on Sunday morning so I don’t have to worry about making real meals for most of the week. My daughter and I will have lunch with my parents on Sunday and our regular dinner with them on Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday we will just figure something out.

I’m about to go do an hour or two in the bedroom and then I’ll clean up and emerge to deal with laundry and the kitchen. I’m already doing laundry but I’ll concentrate on it once I emerge from the bedroom.

I’ve done my time in the bedroom for the day. So, now I’m working on my DS’s clothes for him to take with him to Las Vegas.

I also picked up the ingredients to make chili so I’m making some to put into freezer containers so I have something ready and easy to eat.

Good evening!

I have left a post at CC…..

Work today was utter chaos. I don’t quite know how it’s all got so bad so fast, but I do know I am not looking forward to going back in tomorrow. Never mind!

Wolfie, I too must ask what colour did you choose! my DS gets a new company car every 3 years, and he and son spend what seems like hours and hours pouring over details of different makes and models, choosing what added extras to have. DS involves me only in relation to the colour, and that is only out of politeness!
I am glad you are enjoying your new car, and hope you have a fun drive tonight.
I want to read THG again too, after watching the film, but have to admit to going back to Book 1 of Game of Thrones after watching the first episode of the repeat the other night.

Lady Hawke, I love tilapia, it is so delicate, but it is not easy to find over here. I have cooked it several time in an Indian style sauce, and it works well with the flavours.
I cooked a new recipe tonight….. Stir fried basmati rice with king prawns, chill, egg, and spring onions, and was very surprised at how bland it turned out! I can think of lots of ways to jazz it up a bit, but I’m not sure it’s worth the effort. I have plenty of other new recipes that I want to try!

Just after I picked my daughter up from school my MIL called. My DS had asked her to call me. They were on their way to the emergency room. My MIL has been very dizzy since Tuesday and only just decided to call the doctor on Friday afternoon. Of course they had no available appointments and would have none until Tuesday. Snce she was actively dizzy the only place to go was the emergency room.

I don’t know what will happen if she can’t go home alone. My house is not fit for visitors. I can’t guarantee it is habitable. We are also minus a bed. My DS and I are on air mattresses and can hardly get off the floor.

Left hospital at 11PM. Keepining MIL for an MRI and to see neurology. Afraid she could be having a precursor stroke to a BIG one. Want to identify the problem and prevent it if that is what is going on.

We are having dinner before heading home. It is a good thing it is Friday night and there are some places open late.

They gave my MIL an Anitvert (Meclizine) while in the ER. I really hope it steadies her. They sent me into the bathroom with her when they needed a urine sample and she was okay and then she just teetered sideways and crashed into a wall. If the medication doesn’t help there is no way she can go home alone. There is no way she can come here. I can’t be here to follow her to the bathroom and, even worse than two years ago, we have even less options in terms of beds and the house is almost impassable with bags full of stuff we’ve washed, sacked and moved out of the bedroom. There is no room for someone with a walker to move around.

Hello everyone… Well, file this one under ‘Time Flies’ It was exactly 2 years to the day that I had my compartment hematoma pop in my right thigh… It has taken every bit of those 2 years to recover enough so that I can now walk short distances without a cane or walker… Can’t complain really, many folks who have this happen end up losing the leg. I just thank my lucky stars I had good health insurance. Without it I would have been up poop’s creek!

WON, I can’t believe it has been that long. You were missing while we were doing the whole broken hip thing with my MIL and the shingles thing with my father. I can remember when we were trying to figure out where you had gone. I’m sorry your progress hasn’t been what you would have hoped but it is much better than it might have been.

ASTI, I’m going to cook the tilapia tonight. I am taking my car to the hospital so I can come home when it is time to cook dinner, regardless of how long my DS stays.

Interestingly, tilapia is one of the most common grocery store fish in my area. We see fresh salmon, tilapia, some cod and lots of catfish. We will see sword fish infrequently at our regular stores. I’m certain if you go to a specialty shop you would find a much greater variety. There are some grocery stores in town that only carry catfish. Do you ever see catfish? It is definitely the most indigenous regional fish for us, that and crappie. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen crappie in a grocery. That could be because there are catfish farms that grain feed the catfish so it is clean. In their natural state catfish are bottom dwellers that are opportunistic feeders on trash. So, the groceries sell farm raised catfish. I think the State of Mississippi produces practically all the commercially available catfish in the world. So, if you have ever had catfish it was probably from Mississippi.

I will eat catfish upon occasion but it is not my favorite fish. It is white and when well cooked quite clean tasting. However, it is a naturally fatty fish and if it is cooked improperly it can be quite greasy or quite dry. I might eat it at a restaurant with a known reputation for their catfish. My mother loves it and will try it anywhere until she has determined they don’t cook it well. I have to know it is going to be good before I will try it.

Tilapia is probably the fish I cook most frequently at home with salmon a close second. I never cook catfish. I wouldn’t pretend to know how to cook it properly. It is usually fried but it is much trickier than frying chicken, at least I think so. From viewing the selection of catfish in grocery stores that only offer catfish in the fish department it is apparent there are a lot of people who know how to cook it. The grocery stores that offer nothing but catfish are usually the grocery stores with a large supply of chitlings (pig intestines).

I once went out on a date with a catfish farmer. I met him at a party when he was wearing a suit. When he picked me up on the date he was wearing overalls and I was wearing a sundress with strappy sandals and a full face of makeup and hot rolled hair. He took me to a garage to have his car repaired. We sat in the garage waiting area with a lot of people smoking cigarettes and drinking stale coffee. Then, we stopped at a restaurant to have a soft drink. He offered to split an appetizer with me and took me home. I did not respond when he called and left a message to set up another date. Almost every time I see a catfish I think about that “date”.

My DS is packed for his trip tomorrow. He is going to do some grocery shopping for his mother, stock her cabinets and refrigerator for her, pick up some personal items she needs and meet us at the hospital.

They are meant to do an MRI on her head later today. If they don’t find a problem they are watching to see the medication works on the dizziness and will discharge her tomorrow morning.

My DS will be off on a plane in the morning so I will be taking his mother home and getting her settled. That will also mean getting her prescriptions filled on the way to her apartment and delivering them to her.

I don’t know what will happen if they find she is having a stroke or if the medication does not control the dizziness.

GREETINGS FROM GALENA, IL

Gslena is a historic town in Northern Illinois. To get here we took Highway 20 which is very scenic. We spent the day shopping, sampling food, drinking apple cider and gourmet coffee. It is such a beautiful scenic historical town. I couldn’t ask for a better anniversary present. We walked a lot. We were lucky the town had their Octoberfest and we got to see crafts and polka bands and dog races and food. (I know, too many “ands”) it was so much fun!!

We only came for the overnight but it’s going down as.a town we will visit again. Who knew this was sooo close to us? Only three hours away from home. Thank goodness for Google. :)

Good evening!

Work was horrible :(

Still, day off tomorrow. Even though I was asked to work overtime again. I declined politely, as it is our wedding anniversary, and we are going to treat ourselves at a very nice restaurant. My parents first found this chef many years ago…. They took me to his restaurant for my 18th birthday celebration. They recently rediscovered him at his new place not far at all from where we live, and spoke very very highly of him. So I am looking forward to a memorable meal.

MM, thanks for checking in! I’m so glad you’re having such a nice celebration.

Lady Hawke, well done to your DS for doing all he can for his Mother before he has to go. I hope all goes well with her health, and that you do not have to take on too many extra duties whilst he is away.
I cook mostly salmon. And prawns. I avoid cod, as it is so overfished. Tuna is common here too, though when I cook it, I cook it all the way through. I really dislike fish that is only seared. Fish should not be served still able to swim. Oooh, and I love smoked haddock. I have never seen catfish, in a shop or in a restaurant. From what you say, I think I would probably avoid it…..and those who farm it!!

Won, wow, two years. The fact that most people won’t even have the leg at all makes all you have managed to regain even more remarkable. xx

Graymayne, that is good news! And Happy Autumn Equinox to you too.
