near the top end of proficient in Math for any state. Miss that.

ASTI, the last time I wrote a letter complaining about that school my complaint was forwarded to the principal. The Board of Education told me she would deal with it, that she was a fine Christian lady. So, when I complained nothing was done other than turning me in to the person I was complaining about.

I am just glad to be free of her. I would like to figure out how to ensure other children are not similarly tormented.

The local paper? Keeping your daughters name out of it of course, but a nice interview from a parent concerned about standards? Or even a letter to the paper?
Or, as I did when we couldn’t get a date for son’s operation, contact your local politician. It’s election year, and education is always a big issue! I am cross enough to say “go for it!” That school needs to be exposed. Your daughter has been treated appallingly.

Minxie, the prezzy is on it’s way via USPS Priority Mail. Barring any unforeseen incidents you should have it on Wednesday the 12th. The P.O. tracking # is: 03113260000121732891 :+)

Well, she didn’t make it. The test was a pattern test, looking at this series, what comes next? My poor child is genetically challenged in that respect. Her very intelligent father with an MBA has problems with those as does her very intelligent grandfather. For some reason none of them can see patterns.

The Gifted and Talented teacher told her using any other criteria she would be in the program. She is disappointed but I am still proud of her.

As her teachers told her, regardless of what happened on the test they know she is gifted.

IRONSOS, what is a MAYPO?

Lady Hawke, one of the most eye opening things I remember reading as a young grad student, were translations of comments written on Einstein’s report cards by his high school math & science teachers. You would think they were writing about Alfred E. Neuman as opposed to Albert Einstein!

My DS says he can do the pattern test so it is some other intelligent person in my daughter’s DNA who has a difficult time with that.

We will live with it. There are many things she is very good at and not being in the Gifted and Talented class won’t stop her.

IRONSOS, those math quizes irritate me. It depends on whether you work the line one number at a time or whether you work them in units. If they want you to work them in units there should be parenthesis around the numbers they want you to work first.

Lady Hawke: I considered the “X” sign was acting like a silent parenthesis. Not sure if that is correct.

Wolfie Don’t worry about getting the dates wrong. US military put the day before the month, too. So do I, frequently. When I write checks, I aways put the date that way, but I do spell out the month. (10 September 2012, 4 June 2012, etc)

Having been raised on military installations and taught by (mostly) civillian schools, I tend to switch it up a bit, but I usually spell the month. I like not putting in the comma, though. ;)

Good evening!

I had the Dreaded Dentist today, and am VERY happy to report I am cavity free, yay yippee and thank goodness for that.

LEW, what was it??!

Lady Hawke, it’s a shame she’s not in the official programme…….another example of having to “fit” expectations. But her teachers think so highly of her, I have no doubt they’ll make sure she gets everything possible from her classes. They can see her potential, which is wonderful.

The tooth ache I have been enduring for 10 days will end Friday. I am scheduled to have it extracted then. The DS called and reminded me that I will need to take an antibiotic before the procedure. That is required because of the knee replacements. One thing always leads to another – usually complications. ;)

I went to the Rheumatology clinic today, referred by the doctor who has been dealling with my bursitis. Apart from his letter there was no information in the file, so the consultant had to ask me to supply lots of back details. Fortunately I had typed out a list of my current medication which he found extremely helpful and gave him clues about other problems I am dealing with. He sees no connection between my bursitis and my apparent gout, but pointed out that taking water pills can cause gout, as can aspirin. He wants me to make changes to my diet to reduce the intake of purines and to lose weight rather than simply use pills. I am worried that by not taking my water pills the problem with my legs will return just when we are working to get them back to a normal state:( I am really irritated that my medical details were not available to this new consultant, simply because the Rheumatology clinic is no longer on the hospital site.

Asti Good news about LMG!!

Ironsos I am delighted that you are making such good progress.

Deanie Good riddance to a painful tooth.

Lady Hawke Since your daughter has done very well solely backed by her family’s efforts I am sure she will thrive even more in view of the good opinion of several members of staff at her new school.

ASTI, so pleased LMG is going to be “elsewhere” when she returns. I know that is a gift to you.

GRAYMAYNE, did the consultant completely take your water pills away from you? It seems it should be your option to make an informed decision whether you want to risk the return of the swollen legs or live with the gout. I hope he told you to change your diet and allowed you to keep you pills for the interim.

I have a most repulsive and horrible problem here. I know where at least MOST of my rash is coming from. When I first started the rash on my arm my DS and I were also getting bites on our legs. I am very succeptable to chiggers hopping on my legs and biting me when I walk through grass and if there is one mosquito and 500 people the mosquito will choose me. Strangely, my DS was being bitten on his legs almost as much as I was. He just didn’t have a rash.

At the beginning I checked my bed. There is an outbreak of bed bugs in this country since pest control companies can no longer use DDT. We travel quite a bit and I always check the beds when we get to a hotel room.My daughter and I and my parents went to the mountains in March and my DS went to Orlando, the two trips we took before the rash and bites showed up. I know my DS did not check the bed in Orlando. When we started having bites I checked the bed and pulled back the topper mattress and check the seams on the mattress and found nothing out of order. We have even turned the mattresses recently and did not see anything.

My rash is improving dramatically, almost invisible, with the very strong medication I am using topically on my arm but the bites have just kept coming on both my DS and myself.

So, yesterday morning I pulled back the topper mattress again and I found them. There must not have been enough for me to find easily when I checked weeks ago. There were enough to find when I went looking yesterday.

We killed all the live ones we could see by spraying them with rubbing alcohol and took the mattresses and box springs out to the side of the garage.

After vacuuming the floor we spread Diatomaceous Earth all over the carpet in the bedroom and great room. I started super heating our clothes in the dryer and bagging them into black garbage bags. I put my shoes in a black garbage bag and sprinkled in the Diatomaceous Earth in the bag and sealed it. I’m going to do the same with my books. We’ll leave all these items in these black bags with this powder for a month. This process is going to be almost as time consuming as packing to move, except I’ll be packing my entire bedroom into black garbage bags and sprinkling any items I can’t super heat in the dryer with this powder before I seal it up.

Dietomaceous Earth is a powder made of the shells of freshwater organisms. It is safe to have in the house and food quality DE can actually be eaten. It kills shelled bugs who crawl through it. Apparently it is like us crawling through powdered glass.

I went out and purchased two very high inflatable camping mattresses. We are going to be spending at least the next month out in the great room on these mattresses while we let any stragglers in the bedroom commit suicide by crawling through the Dietomaceous Earth.

Happily, once we had the bed out of the room I did not find any evidence of them on the floor boards, behind the pictures on the wall, or on the draperies.I emptied my bedside table of its contents and inspected it. I don’t think we have had them long enough for them to start branching out. We have been very cooperative in offering ourselves up to them each night.

At least the mattress was no great loss, other than the mass havoc it has created and having to spend money to replace it. When my DS and I married it was ten years old but he was a contractor and had not been home to sleep on it often. Well, twenty years down the road it desperately needed replacing anyway.

I was completely out of commission yesterday, trying to clear up the worse of the mess before my DS arrived home to help me carry the mattresses out. I wanted to have inspected the mattresses and kill everything I could find so as to not risk dropping them on the way out.

So, I am in horror here. I almost didn’t tell you what was going on it has made me so ill but this is going to take me days or weeks to process and it will probably be at least a couple of months before I get my house put back to rights. So, my activities for the next couple of months are going to reflect my attempt to reclaim my bedroom.

My DS is very sensitive to pesticides. He was doused in a pesticide as a young many and it made him very ill. So, ever since then he has had to avoid exposure. So, having professional spraying in the house doesn’t really work for him. Even if we had professionals in to spray we would still have to sack up all the books and clothes. Using this Dietomaceous Earth will extend the time before we are willing to put a new mattress in the bedroom.

According to the instructions for use we could go get a mattress today and put it in there and start sleeping on it but we don’t want to involve a new mattress in this process at all.

I am essentially going to be living out of a suitcase (black bag) in my living room. My actual suitcase is going into a black garbage bag with the powder all over it.

Morning

Astie Great news about your co-worker.

Deanie Hope the dental problems are solved and don’t cause more problems.

Graymayne I am surprised your health records were not sent to the new doctor. Well I guess I shouldn’t be since I have a new doctor again and I doubt anything has been forwarded to him. My doctor or I should say my previous doctor that I had for 35 years no longer is taking patients. He is the same age as myself so I felt so comfortable with him. I thought he was retiring but he now takes the patients for urgent care. My daughter sees him when she is ill since she has no new doctor since she moved back. He asked her the last time she saw him who her primary doctor was. She had to tell him that it use to be him when she lived here before she moved. Then he remembered that she was my daughter.

Ironsos Here is hoping everythings goes smoothly with this eye as it did with the other.

Walmart has it’s grand opening of the super center today. I am debating on going this morning. I do want to see what they have that is different from their smaller store. I know I am not going to remember to drive to the new store. Luckily it is across from the grocery store but I will be in the wrong lane when I see the store. It will take some time for me to get use to going to the new store.

COOLG, I find the Walmart super stores way too big. All we have anymore around here are super stores. I know the idea is you can get absolutely everything you need or want in one place but it wears me out walking here, walking there, trying to figure out where they keep everything. Then, the lines are awful.

I find I would rather go many places but just get out of the car, go directly in and get what I want and then leave. Every time I go to Walmart I end up leaving without everything I intended to get because I just get worn out with it.

Today I must be about my usual Wednesday business, parental shopping, banking and doctor appointments.

I’m so glad I have the mattress out of the house and no visible signs of anything unwelcome left in the bedroom. I would not have wanted to have left it yesterday. I felt as if I needed to stand at the bedroom door and guard the exit.

Lady Hawke How terrible. I remember having bed bugs once when we moved to Cinnicinati. I was about 5 but it was terrible. We always lived in the country so never had any problems with any kind of bugs other than the normal outside ones. I don’t remember how my mother got rid of them but she did. I too checked out the beds when we got a motel room last year. I was going to buy a used bed but decided I didn’t want to take any chances so I just got a new metal bed frame. I can understand you not wanting to say anything about it but we all know you got them from being in a motel. It could happen to anyone and does.

I did go to the grand opening. I guess I was too late for any of the prise give aways. I spent about 2 hours walking around checking every thing out. I did get the new blu ray DVD of Titantic. I had a copy but blu ray does give you a great picture plus all the extra’s on it. It has 4 disc with it. I do buy blu ray disc if it is something that has scenery or is a great movie. My blu ray player makes most dvd look a lot better than a normal player does so I don’t buy a blu ray every time I buy a movie.

I will be doing my normal shopping at our local grocery store so it does not go out of business. I will be buying extra things they do not carry at Walmart. I won’t be shopping as often at the Walmart because it is so big. This is too bad because I use to go there if I was tired of being couped up at home. I only saw one normal sales person while I was there. I am sure there were probably more but only one that I recognized.

Lady Hawke He will be writing to my doctor to discontinue the water pills and to change to another BP pill. I remarked that he would be changing the one that had been recommended by the kidney specialist at the hospital. I’m going to make an appointment with my doctor of choice from the one remaining following the retirement of my usual GP. I will discuss the situation with him. I have to say that the gout episodes coincided with the doubling of my water to counteract the swelling of my calves, I’ve never had an attack before.

We had an occurrence of bed bugs in a brand new council flat when we were first married. The council fumigated the bedroom and we had no further trouble for the three years we lived there. The new flats had been built in an area which had been demolished, so it was believed that the bugs had camped out until new accommodation was available, lol. I was the one being bitten and we spotted something on the wall which we didn’t recognise and took advice. It was all over very quickly I am pleased to say. It makes me itch just to remember it.
