I went to town this morning to pay my car insurance. While in town, I went to buy some cheap vanilia wafers to use in banana pudding. Also went to the Farmers Market and got some tomatoes, green tomatoes, and corn. I also stopped at the grocery store and picked up milk and bread etc. Can you guess what I have been doing since I got home?

Made the banana pudding first. Then the fried green tomatoes. Next I made the corn bread and put the corn on. Finally I put the potatoes on for buttered potatoes and great northern beans. I really have a feast here just for myself. I would invite my kids over for supper but it is Thursday and they are busy tonight.

Ironsos I hope every thing goes well with your eyes. I will have to have that done before too long.

Dr. Lew This is nice that you have found a friend even if it doesn;t turn out to be boyfriend girlfriend. You never know. You do have the beginnings since you like him and he makes you laugh.

ASTI, didn’t you see it in the theater?

COOLG, my inclination to cook sort of bit the dust a bit after the freezer event. I do have some “starter” food back in there now. My mother, bless her, went to the meat department at the grocery yesterday and loaded her cart up with meat and gave it to me. So, I have some beef, chicken and pork. I use mostly fresh veggies except for brussel sprouts and spinach. So, I have a couple of bags of each of those and some bags of mixed veggies I can use for a quick soup.

This is Homecoming Week for the highschool football team but even the Middle and Elementary schools are participating in the hoopla leading up to the game. Tuesday they went to school in pajamas. Yesterday they were supposed to go to school dressed in some sort of historical costume (the Goddess Athena from Halloween two years ago). Today was Spirit Day and they were meant to wear purple and gold, purple and gold face paint and spray their hair purple and gold. We had no purple or gold clothes so my daughter did herself up as a jaguar, the school’s mascot. She wore people clothes but did her face up like a jaguar using eye liner and eyebrow pencil. Then her hair was teased and sprayed to stand up off her head with little tufts to look like ears.

Thanks Everyone for the well wishes. The surgery went great with no problems. Have to wear
cover over eye till I see the doctor tomorrow afternoon. was mostly awake during the procedure
so as to be able to follow doctors instructions. got a low dose of joy juice so it was
not disconcerting. Streching my reading glasses to the limit to wear them.

Talk about timing! ironsos I didn’t know you had a procedure last night. Around noon today, I had an urge to bake. Talk to your receptionist. ;)

I just checked here now to see if you are posting. I knocked on your door at around 3 pm but after two tries I thought you might have gone to Harmon’s . Apparently not, still taking the happy juice? 0.0

Hugs. Back later to flurk.

Well, wow! I was really, really impressed by The Hunger Games! Stunning to look at, stunning to listen to, SO close to the book I was jumping in my seat, and set up perfectly for the second book. The President was perfect, ooozing menace, and whoever cast that girl as Katniss gets a big hug from me, she was perfect. I had tears in my eyes at the Rue bit.
Two quibbles……..didn’t District 11 send Katniss a gift in recognition of her honouring Rue with the flowers?
AND the jerky camera work! It really bothered me for the first half hour or so, my eyes don’t like that at all. Had it been a film I wanted to see less, I would have given up. But, it either got less jerky, or I got used to it, and I loved the film.

My DS is feeling a lot better.

Ironsos, I am so glad all went well. I hope you get a good report tomorrow. xx

asti we got the disc too but have not had the time to watch again. Gives me that lump in my throat every time! I can not remember clearly but I think the jerky camera movement is supposed to let the audience feel how frenzied and anxiety ridden the people felt. Sort of compensating to have a 3D effect.

wolfie, that’s how the scammer did it. I learned it was not us but my aunt’s (the nun) email address that was hacked. She has changed it and so far, everything seems okay. Fortunately, she only uses it to send family news and never uses it to buy from the Internet. Whew.

JOSEPHINE, what did you bake? I’m certain IRONSOS will be glad to see it when he hears about it.

ASTI, yes, I think the people of District 11 did send a gift to Katniss in the arena. My daughter says they sent bread like they made in District 11 to her. I agree with JOSEPHINE the jerky camera work was very deliberate. Not only did it create a feeling of frenzy it actually kept us from seeing too much. It allowed the wholesale killing around the cornucopia to look more violent than what we really saw, if analyzed.

Lady Hawke, tell your daughter thankyou! I too, thought it was bread that they sent. I am going to have to read the book again, having seen the film!
To Josephine as well, ( and it is SO nice to see your flurk!) I agree that the camera work was very effective, and worked very well. But my eyes do find it difficult. This is why I dislike going to the cinema; my eyes cannot cope with the contrast between the dark theatre and the brightness of the screen. I don’t know if it is anything to do with my being so very shortsighted, but anything like that makes me feel very disorientated and weird!

I laid down for what I thought was a short nap and slept for a couple hours instead. I missed
Josephine!!!!! Desk called around 5:00 and said I had a pizza delivery? The banana bread
was in a California Pizza bag. Already had a small piece. Good stuff.

I will be taking light rail to the Doctor’s. My total walk is only 3 blocks. No problem at

all as far as getting around. The doctor called a few minutes ago to check on me. I have
to wear the patch till I see him tomorrow afternoon. The patch is to keep me from rubbing
the eye. The patch is vented and you can see a little through it. Eye feel perfectly normal.
By the way the joy juice was a mild dose of what is givin during a colonoscopy. Nothing
to take home. Darn it!

We are having a MASSIVE thunderstorm right now. We only had a 20% chance of rain tonight but we are about to float away. It is very loud and boomy. Tomorrow night we are expected to have LOTS of rain and BIG storms. This was just a maybe but it has been impressive and is just going and going and going.

IRONSOS, I’m glad it is such an easy commute and you are feeling well.

We have had a beautiful morning so I took my morning out into the garden to watch butterflies and despair over the state of the garden.

Asti I am glad to hear that your DS was feeling a little better yesterday evening. I haven’t watched my DVD of The Hunger Games yet, but I did watch the whole of the accompanying disc about the making of the film. I am just sorry that Gary Ross will not be at the helm of Catching Fire because I was impressed by the quality of his work.

Last night I fell asleep around 5 P<M and didn;t wake up until 11:00PM. I was just in time to watch the ending of the President’s speech. This meant I had to watch other news shows to get the repeat. This is not the way I like to get the news. I went back to sleep and woke up at 4 AM. Have been up since.

I washed the dishes from yesterday. They had been waiting on the sink rinsed off but not washed with soap and water. When I say rinsed I mean I have washed all the food off the items so it won;t dry on the dishes. I have used a dish washer for too many years so I still get the dishes ready to be put in the dish washer. Too bad I don;t have one hooked up here. Lol I have clothes washing and need to sweep in a few minutes. Right now I am drinking my coffee and watching the news.

I usually have the lights on dim . I actually look like I did when I was in my 30’s until I turn the lights up. Then I get a shock when I see all the wrinkles. Lol

I need to clean the table and counters off. They are no longer piled up with papers but do have other things piled. You know I still have to keep things in view so I don;t forget about them. I think it is time to put away most of my summer clothes. By the time I get around to getting them all put away, it will be time for winter. I never actually put them completely packed away. I just transfer them from easy access to storage trunks.

I am just rattling on this morning.

COOLG, I never really put my summer clothes away. Even in December or January there can be days I have to have a short sleeve shirt.

LOL, COOLG, we all look like we did in our 30s until we turn the lights up.

I am home doing laundry today and trying to figure out what to cook for dinner. I’m officially watching what I eat now. When I say watching what I eat, I mean like a research scientist. If I eat it I have to look it up and write the calories down in a book. Once I’ve used my available calories up I’m finished. So, I tend to do a lot of research BEFORE I eat anything. So, deciding what to cook the family for dinner now involves a lot of figuring out what I can allow myself to eat of what I cook.

Fish is very likely to be on the menu. Fish is really low caloried compared to just about anything else we can have.

Today was “Twin Day” for Spirit Week. Most of the kids who were planning to try to follow the theme were planning to coordinate what they wore today with another student. My daughter came home and took a white shirt and drew a line down the middle of the shirt. She put half a comedy face on one side and the tragedy half of the face on the other side. This morning she drew a line down the middle of her face and did bright cheerful makeup on one side and dark makeup with tears on the other. Then, she asked me to chalk her hair in bright rainbow colors on one side and dark blues and blacks on the other.

The storm went on and on last night. There was a big red splotch on the radar and it just sat on us. Tonight we have a 90% chance of rain but they are saying the problem will be the wind.

At any rate the real temperature today is expected to be 100F (37.8C) and who knows what the heat index will be. But tomorrow is only meant to be 78F (25.6C). I realize a lot of you think 25.6C is hot but believe me it will be FABULOUS after months of temperatures ranging from 92F 9 (33.3C) to 104F (40C) with additional Heat Indexes piled on top of the real numbers. I could probably live with 25.6C year round, especially if there was a breeze to go with it.

A reformat will take the pc back to the day you bought it.
A system restore will take back the pc to an earlier point in time.

I’ve had a call from my daughter’s school today. It was her study hall teacher. She wanted to tell me how much they have enjoyed my daughter’s costuming this week but what she was specifically calling to talk to me about was that my daughter has come to the attention of the teacher of the Gifted and Talented Program at the school. She wanted me to know they were sending the paperwork home for me to give my permission to have her tested for the program. I need to sign it and return it on Monday.

She went on to tell me how special and wonderful all the teachers think my daughter is, how much they are enjoying her and how much they admire her. May I tell you I was practically in tears?

I had to go to the school this afternoon to sign a permission slip to allow them to use the photos they have taken of her this week. When I was in the office her math teacher came through the office and she told me how wonderful my daughter is, how much they admire her and how creative and imaginative they think she is. Then, she told me how much the STUDENTS LOVE HER AND ADMIRE HER. My jaw nearly hit the floor as tears sprang to my eyes. She has been tormented for seven years and now she is admired.

I am in shock. I am so relieved. I want to run around jumping up and down.

It has been clear here for ages how intelligent and imaginative your daughter is. I am so happy that this is finally being recognised and appreciated by teachers who will be able to help and encourage her. I wish I could give you a huge hug.

Lady Hawke; Great news about you daughter.

The difference in my eyes is amazing. The one they operated on sees bright and lovely colors.
The other one has this dirty grey/brown filter over it that is the cataract. It will take a few weeks
to get the full effect. The doctor says all looks great in the fixed eye. If all goes well on my visit
next thurs. he will do the other eye the following day.

Thank you, Everyone! I appreciate your support. I know you have listened to me moan for over five years now, almost as long as my daughter has been in school, since they failed her in First Grade, saying she couldn’t read and would probably never read well. Now, I have a Sixth Grader who has been reading at the Twelfth Grade level since she was in Fifth Grade.

I so hope my daughter proves to be acceptable to the program. I really don’t understand the criteria. I know a mother at school who grew up in this county. She is a Certified Public Accountant and says she was a straight A student and graduated from high school with a perfect grade point average. I don’t know if you have Certified Public Accountants in the UK but here it is the highest designation of licensure for accountants. It means you are a Geek of financial number crunching. She was tested for Spotlight every year and she was never invited to participate in the program.

Regardless of whether my daughter makes it or not it is a real mark of their regard for her they are attempting to draft her into the program after the school year has already begun. Testing is usually done at the end of the previous year of school for the next year. So, it sounds as if she has been hand picked for consideration this far into the school year.

The Gifted and Talented teacher came to my daughter with her file and told her as an Advanced student she couldn’t understand why she had not been in Spotlight before now. I can tell you. She is a square peg and up until now the other school was spending all their time trying to force my square peg into a round hole. They couldn’t see being a square peg had its own value and could be celebrated, instead of being persecuted for not being a round peg.

My daughter was also shocked when the Gifted and Talented teacher said, “Oh, I know you. I saw you on Facebook yesterday. It seems my daughter’s photo was taken by many people yesterday and she has spread over Facebook.”

The principal spoke to her today. He told her she had certainly won the School Spirit Award, that he won’t know her out of her costumes. He had spoken to her the day she dressed as Athena. That day after he started talking to her he said, “Oh, you’re the one.” If you remember he had to give his permission for her to have access to the YA library books. After talking to her for five minutes he realized she was the person to whom he had given special permission.

So, she has made quite a high profile for herself in the five weeks she has been in school and this week in particular. She is not being ignored.

IRONSOS, that is wonderful about seeing color again. When my MIL had her cataracts removed she thought I had reupholstered my furniture. She also saw the color of some of the food I was serving for the first time and had not realized how pretty it was. In many cases she did not recognize on sight things she had been served at my house for years.

I hope all goes well as expected and you can have the other eye done and be able to see in color again.

Did you realize you had lost your ability to see color. My MIL did not. It had happened so gradually she had not noticed.
