That was a lot of typos. Maybe I shouldn’t be editing right now..
At least dinner is ready for tonight and I’ll have something to feed the DS when my daughter and I are out with my parents tomorrow night. We’ll have it again on Thursday. So, he will eat it three nights in a row and I’ll have a night off.
I went out Saturday and bought myself a brand new copy of another book by Alan Brennart who wrote MOLOKA’I about the leper colony in Hawaii. This one is his latest, now in paperback, called HONOLULU. It is about a Korean picture bride (mail order bride) brought to Hawaii in 1914.
In truth I purchased two additonal brand new books. I nearly choked at the extravagance.
LEW, my late FIL was a huge Chelsea fan. I love the idea of you watching English football in an English pub, yay!
Lady Hawke, has the weather improved? And I feel the same when I buy books new. Most of mine are second hand, but I did have a fab splurge with the money my Mum gave me for Christmas. Even then, it felt naughty to be spending so much money on new books, just for me, lol! What were your other new books?
Football score is now 2 -1. EEK.
I just taste tested the zuchini lasagna before putting in the refrigerator. It was quite tasty. My DS will not suffer from eating it 3 days in a row.
I sliced and pan fried the zuchini. Then, I layered it with crumbled goat cheese, a mixture of canned oven roasted tomatoes mixed with chopped onions, chopped garlic, and pesto sauce. In the middle I put a layer of proscuitto and another layer of proscuitto on top with a sprinkling of bread crumbs and grated parmesan. Then, I baked it all.
Tonight for dinner I’ll slice it, nuke it and serve it with Italian loaf bread. That will be it for dinner.
asti, they even serve Real Ales AND imperial pints! And, on top of that, we catch the morning happy hour because the games are so early. Is Southampton playing Leeds? Because Matt Lewis is going crazy on Twitter…
LEW, if Southampton win, they will meet Leeds in the Final! And please tell me you don’t drink at that time in the morning!!!!
I also chose A RELIABLE WIFE by Robert Goolrick. It was recommended to me by a lovely clerk when she saw me carrying HONOLULU. He is a first time writer and his book has just gone into paperback. It is about a man who advertises for a wife, a reliable woman. The “bride” answers the add, intending to kill him and become a rich widow, but he has plans of his own. It is a historical thriller.
The other is THOSE WHO SAVE US by Jenna Blum. It is about a mother and daughter who are liberated in WWII by the Americans. They go to Minnesota with an American soldier. There is a photo of the two of them with a Nazi soldier. When the daughter grows up she becomess a professor of German history and starts investigating the past of her mother and herself.
“A Reliable Wife” is what my roommate’s book club is reading this month.
We do seem to run to odd coincidences here. ;)
Hometime in less than 20. ;)
I’m out. ;)
Bbl, maybe. Bbt for sure. ;)
Lady Hawke, I don’t know either of those titles, but they sound interesting. Will you let me know what you think, when you have read them? I’m always on the look out for book recommendations, lol!
LEW did you get round to reading Edgar Sawtelle?
I also purchased three more at the used book store last week.
THE WHISKEY REBEL by David Liss, a novel about the American Revolution
BREAD GIVERS by Alice Kessler-Harris, about an Orthodox Jewish girl in 1920s Manhattan who refuses to live by the old laws.
SKELETONS AT THE FEAST by Chris Bohjalian, set during the end days of WWII, a journey cross Europe featuring a romance between a Prussian aristocratic girl and a Scottish POW. Their relationship is secret, except from the third member of their trio and their secret binds them together.
asti, I never finished it.
Sorry, asti, but I definitely drink at that time in the morning on game days. At least this past Sunday I remembered to eat breakfast and pace myself – my first time down for a game didn’t go so well…
*LEW, that’s a shame, I quite enjoyed it.
Ohhhh, Leeds lost on penalties, and Southampton won, 3 – 1, so we now face Carlisle in the final! DS just phoned, he and son are very happy! (I’ll just ignore the fact my son will not be in bed ’til at least 11pm on a school night……..)
Lew, unconscious by midday, by any chance?!!
asti, are you trying to guilt trip me? Because after making that many bad decisions, I feel that I deserve a nap…
Lol, LEW, naps are good for the soul!
And my soul needs a good nap.
……………………..and I am off to bed for my 7 1/2 hour nap. Busy day again tomorrow. I’m still babysitting the new managers. Goodnight all! xx
Asti
That is so infuriating, having to train the person or persons who are going to be your boss or take your job. I have had to do it. There is something inherently WRONG in that.
Night asti! Hope the managers adapt quickly and leave you in peace! :)
It’s raining here… has been all day long. A murky, grey and depressing day. I “escaped” out of work early because I was honestly in no mood to do much and the day was going nowhere… sure I could have gotten the money for the hours if I stayed all the way today, but I just needed to head home early. I haven’t been sleeping well and I feel out of it and have very little concentration. I hope that after I go to the gym tonight I’ll be more physically tired and able to go fall asleep early to fix the aweful sleeping patterns I’ve had so far this week.
Exercising before going to bed always wakes me up and makes it very difficult for me to sleep. I do best exercising in the morning or early afternoon. If I do it after 7 PM I can’t go to sleep.
Hey all. Meant to pop in earlier, but I had left…
Lemon wanted me to say hi to everyone for her :)
Yeah, a hello from Lemon from me too haha.
Hi everyone!!!
At school yesterday, the teacher who runs the yearbook was taking photos of clubs and teams, and one of the clubs listed on his schedule was “Harry Potter club”. I had no clue this existed, so I went and asked him about it and he said that it actually doesn’t exist, but he’s going to start it and whoever shows up for the picture can be in it. LOL So I showed up, expecting to be the only one there, but there were at least 30 other people there who all just decided to come even if it doesn’t exist. LOLOL!!!!
Congrats on the game cup, PB!!!!! Missing the cup already :’(
Accio snow!!! You can send it all here if you like!! I don’t mind!!! Really wants a snow day The irony here is that even if I was getting the worst of the storms, I’d still be going to school…
Evening All
I have been working all day and now I am ready for Lost. I will have to record it because the first hour is the repeat and AI is on that time. I will have to catch NCIS on the repeat. I can’t believe I said that.
I did cook a very large pork roast today. We are going to use half of it for a roast with carrots and potatoes and make up the rest into barbque. That is what we will eating the rest of the week. When we get tired of the roast, then it will be vegetable soup. About every couple of weeks, we make something that can be heated up to eat without doing a lot of cooking. This gives us both a break from cooking since we share the cooking now that the DS is home more. Of course on the days he’s out working, I do the cooking.
Too bad Lemon couldn’t find the time to come by here and say Hi.

HW It’s been snowing here all night and all day. I think we have a foot or more. Anyway it covers up the bottom rail of our fense so it’s pretty high. My Harley dog has been out playing in it a lot today. He loves the snow. Molly only will go out to do her business. Lol
asti, they’re the first team I watched and gave my allegiance. That’s reason enough for me to pull for them, since I don’t have any hometown/town/university connections. I have a friend who pulls for Chelsea and gowith him to a British Pub in Denver that shows all the games (including the 7am Sunday morning Mountain Time games) – it’s a great place and the other Chelsea fans are a lot of fun. I’ve just started getting into soccer/football (started watching this fall), but am enjoying it.
