Hi Asti! Yes, I should be able to post this weekend – I got an email stating that my hotel happens to be offering free wi-fi to conference attendees. I did get Remarkable Creatures at the January conference. It wasn’t one of the free ones, but was still only $10 for the hardcover. But unfortunately I haven’t read it yet…I think I’ve only read one of the books I picked up there, actually. This weekend I’m just bringing one book with me for the train ride there. I figure that for the rest of the trip’s reading material, I can start on the books I pick up there.

One of the Advance Reader Copies I’ll be looking for this weekend has an interesting little “small world” connection. There’s a new author, Stephanie Perkins, that I follow on Twitter because her agent (who I follow because she’s author Maureen Johnson’s agent) had been posting about her. Stephanie’s debut YA novel comes out in Sept, and there’s a good chance there’ll be copies at the conference. Well, I just found out that her husband is Jarrod Perkins, who is the Wizard Rock group “Gred & Forge”. I thought that was very cool! :)

Hi Rhi! I’m so excited to see more people visiting over here. I’ve sort of been wanting to plead with everyone to return here full-time, but I know that most seem happier at the new site. I just love being on Leaky. :)

Sorry to post and run, but I am eagerly heading out of work! ;)

If I don’t stop in tonight, I’ll be back tomorrow. I’ve actually been spending little to no time online at night because having stuff to catch up on gives me something to do at work the next day! ;)

Jen, I have also been known to take an extra piece of soft sideed luggage folded up in my main bag to carry the extras that I purchase on vacation. ;)

The plus on the Space bags is that they contain smells and moisture and with no extra air inside, they inhibit mildew growth on wet things, like bathing suits and beach towels. I usually take my own bath sheet, because hotel towels are not really adequate for us “queen-size kitties”. Not even if I use 2 or 3 of them, they just do not adequately cover me when wrapped around. ;)

Welcome back, straying Leaky Peeps! ;)

It’s about to storm again. It is getting really dark outside. If the power goes out again….I will scream!!! It is over 90 degrees outside and HUMID…the heat index is near 100. NO AC will just make me feel sick!!

Rant over….:(

It let me post Surpise Surpirse. I thought I would see who all was here. Nothing much to say. Lol

My phone has been ringing off the wall but we are full up for the 4th. Did I tell you we should have about $7000 worth of fireworks to shoot off. The campers raised a thousand and we matched it. Another camper usually has his fireworks at home but decided to combine what he usually buys with ours this year. We get them at a place that matces dollar for dollar is why it will be $7000. We are only paying around $3500. It should make for a great display.

Morning all!

Deanie, I agree with you on the towels, but I usually just ask for extra ones…though I will take my own beach towels to bring down to the pool with me. I hope the pool will be open while I’m there. The hotel I’m staying at recently underwent remodeling. One e-mail I got stated that all work would be done by June 1st, but another I got after the 1st said that the remodel has been completed except for the pool and fitness center. I’m hoping that that just means they haven’t done any work on the pool yet, not that it is closed while they complete the work.

Asti, I will definitely post lists! :)

MM, I hope you didn’t lose power last night; being without A/C on a hot, humid night would be miserable. :(

Hi CoolG! Glad you were able to get your post to go through; I wonder why it wasn’t working before? The fireworks sound great – be sure to take some pics or video!

Hi Hermine! Hope you enjoyed your lunch. Talk to you later.

Hi Cool G, long time, no see.

Jen, my usual strategy is to fold clothes on the way there and roll them on the way back. I am usually able to take everything back home with me using that method despite having purchased lots of new clothes and general stuff while in the States. Weight is always a bigger issue than space in the suitcase. Enjoy your weekend.

MM, I hope the power stayed on. Even though it is past the solstice, summer hasn’t really arrived here yet. I think I will take the kids to the Freibad (outdoor pools in a park-like setting) tomorrow not because it is really hot and it seems like a good idea, but because the city needs the money.

Deanie, is your dental work finished, or do you have to go back for more?

I have been very busy watching muggle World Cup. Why do the US and Germany have to play on the same day? At least this weekend they won’t be playing each other.

So, my daughter was given 100€ worth of gift certificates to the toy store at the mall that sells wooden toys, fabric toys, toys for playing pretend, and board games. The one set of wooden food that velcros together and can be cut apart with a wooden knife costs 30. What else should we get? Any suggestions? DD is 2.5.

Do they have puzzles, Hermine? I know my nephews loved puzzles at that age, and the ones with large wooden pieces were perfect for their little hands. The older two weren’t much into board games at that age, but my youngest nephew was because of playing them with his older brother. He was good with anything that was counting or picture based. Oh, and they all also loved blocks – nothing made them happier than building a big tower to knock it down! ;) Let us know what you end up getting!

Hermine, I have to go back on the 12th of July to get my permanent porcelin crowns, but I have temporaries now, so I can at least open my mouth and eat. ;)

Since i won’t be here tomorrow, I need to get my desk clear today. ;)

I will be lurking. ;)

Ohhh, conferences are generally a good time! Are you presenting anything?

I have only two teams in the right spot on my WC bracket, but I’m having a great time with the upsets. I’m really upset New Zealand couldn’t pull off a win to advance to the group of 16, but it was fun to see Italy lose (even though I had them playing in the final). And I had USA coming out second in their group, but I’ll take 1st (though I’m not thrilled to be on the same side of the bracket as Brazil).

Gaaaaah!

I hate dealing with insurance policy changes! ;)

The child i was just talking to seemed unable to actually do any of the changes and had to put in a request for a “work aound” just to get the new Car’s VIN entered into her computer.

I might be able to print my new insurance cards tonight unless the moon is in the wrong phase.

I need to sacrifice two virgin moths and three aged lightning bugs to the Insurance Gods first, though. At least it feels that way!

I knew there was a reason I was reluctant to shop for a new car. ;)

Bbl. ;)

No, I’m not presenting anything. This will be my first annual conference – the one I went to in January is just a mini event compared to the annual, I’m told – so I’ll just be taking it all in. There are literally hundreds of different panels and discussion groups, and so many are taking place at the same times; I don’t know how I’m going to choose. For each time period, I have about 5 or 6 different ones I’m interested in…and they’re mostly all on Saturday; the Sunday list isn’t as impressive, so that will probably be my down-time day to maybe get out and do something touristy.

Oh, but Sunday morning I do have an event I’m excited about – it’s called the YA Coffee Klatch. The description says that we librarians will sit at tables enjoying coffee and every 3-4 minutes, a young adult author will visit the table to talk to us. They’re all authors who have won one of the ALA awards or been on one of their “Best of” lists. There’s a huge list of authors participating, so I don’t know if we’ll meet everyone, but I’m especially excited about John Green, Libba Bray, and Simone Elkeles, so I hope I’ll at least get to talk to them. :)

That’s so strange, Deanie! You’d think an insurance company would be used to dealing with requests like that every day – it’s not like purchasing a new car is a completely unusual event. Good luck getting the insurance cards!

I suppose that’s one good thing about MA – we don’t have insurance cards. We can’t register a car without insurance, so the insurance company sends proof of coverage to the RMV, and then there’s a stamp on our registration form to indicate the insurance info. Of course, to pick up your registration from the RMV is a project-and-a-half thanks to the ridiculous wait times I mentioned the other day, so it’s not all a piece of cake! ;)

Jen, that sounds like a great conference. Big national/international ones are generally a lot of fun – as long as you aren’t stressing out about having to present research or anything. Great networking, usually there are a few good talks/sessions (though I’m always surprised by the lack of quality on some occasions), and a great chance to see friends in the field and people you only see at conferences. I hope you have a blast and get a lot out of it!

Good luck with the heat, Mistic.

Jen, I’m glad you’ll be able to post…. if you have the time! But if you do, it’ll be lovely to hear how it’s going.

MM, I hope all was alright for you with the weather.

CoolG, wow, that’s a lot of firework money! It doesn’t sound as though you’ll have much time to relax over the 4th July. Don’t overdo it!

Hermine, Germany get to play England on Sunday! I’ll think of you as we watch!

Deanie, I hope the sacrifices work.

DS and son are actually having a night off from football, (Gasps in shock.) And…. are watching some kind of scary film. I think I’d rather have the football!

Jen Your Sunday event sounds a lot like speed-dating. ;)

Our insurance information is also sent directly to DMV, but we have cards, too. If we get stopped this weekend, the insurance information may not be entered at DMV yet, so having the cards is an extra precaution. ;)

This afternoon has taken forever to get to this point. I fully expect to run out of time now as the next hour passes in about 10 minutes. ;)

Bbl or bb monday. ;)

Asti today is a good day to skip watching World Cup. I watched part of the Denmark-Japan game only because DHusband had it on. I will be thinking of you during the match on Saturday, yet hoping that Germany wins. Everyone over here will be terribly deflated if Germany loses.

Deanie, it is sad that your auto-insurance company has such troubles doing what should be common tasks for their company. Did you ask to talk to a supervisor when the “child” couldn’t help you? Do you have a bug-zapper for the necessary sacrifices?

Keep cool, Mistic. One day of that much heat sounds wonderful, but just one. After that, I would need a couple days of our chilly summer to recoup.

It is well past bedtime here. Let’s hope the kids stay in their own beds tonight. Last night, DSon crawled into my bed a little after midnight, so I went and slept in his bed to avoid having knees and elbows in my back all night.

Enjoy the rest of your Thursday, everyone!
