It is a beautiful day here and it’s my day to do shopping with my mother. Having good weather makes the whole process so much easier.
Everyone have a good day. There is no news here this morning. I hope I can still say the same thing next Wednesday morning when the river is meant to have reached its crest. For today we are going to lay in some jugs of water for my mother for in case.
Nothing too exciting going on here. It’s a gray day, with rain expected though it’s dry right now. I wish I already had that darn final exam that is going to be emailed to us Thurs night/Fri morning. Today would have been a great day to just get it over with. Oh well, instead I’m going to go over my sister’s and take my nephew to his library storytime. :)
Hello all… Heading to a big Dr’s appointment. (pulmonary specialist) Hope all goes well…
Lemon, I finally posted the brisket recipe at CC.
Good luck at the doctor’s, Won!
Josie, are you asking for a new poll or telling us there is one? goes to check
Thanks for the heads up, Josie! I’ve posted on the new poll with a comment about the trailer, but I’m going to stay over here for off-topic comments for a while to give the non-regular posters a chance to discuss the trailer. Maybe some of them will decide to stick around and we’ll make some new friends; it’s been so long since anyone new joined us!
Lunch lurk! ;)
Usually by page 3 the people who only post once or twice per poll, and on topic, will be done. ;)
We wet to a local Mexican place last night and the “complimentary” salsa was fresh and very mild. They make it themselves and they do have hot “varnish remover” type salsa if you ask for it. I also got a bowl of queso dip and she asked if we wanted hot or mild. So many places just burn your taste buds off with the salsa and it makes it difficult to enjoy the actual meal. It was very good. ;)
I am still sorting through my closed files and getting them ready to either scan or destroy. Which will happen depends on whether I get a retention schedule. So far none of these fies has ever been destroyed. We have a whole bunch of them on micro-fische. I am hoping we can get rid of the film and free up a bunch of file space. ;)
Back to the grind! ;)
You’re welcome, BWJen. I watched the trailer twice, just because it didn’t load properly the first time. I felt there weren’t very significant spoilers especially for those who’ve read the books already. The other scenes that weren’t in the book I didn’t bother analyzing, much less ponder over it. I’ll know why after I watch the movie.
Don’t work too hard, Deanie!!
Just called the billing agency for my Cardiologist. My insurance denied the claim because they did not exactly match the name on file. Tricare only recognizes me by my first initial and middle initial and last name. My secondary insurance only recognizes me by my first initial and middle name and last name. My legal signature and income taxes are my first initial and middle name and last name. My Social Security card and drivers license insist on my first name and middle name and last name.
I crash computer systems al over the place! ;)
We need to celebrate all of our talents, even the strange ones! ;)
Bbl or bbt. ;)
Oh happy happy day! Joy, delight and happiness! Little Management Girly has been moved to a different department! Now I can go back to liking her, and chatting to her pleasantly without wanting to strangle her. Yay!
Graymayne, thanks for letting me know. I’ll check out her site asap.
Won, I hope all goes very well for you. Let us know how you get on. xx
Deanie, I can’t begin to tell you how much that would irritate me. Our Council Tax bill still comes to us addressed to my maiden name. I have been married for 10 years, and they still can’t get it right. They accept my payments without any quibbles though……..
Oooh, new poll. Off to check it out, then I’ll be back here!
Quick check in before collapsing for the evening…
Asti great news on LMG!!! YAY! Now if MM’s problem person would just get moved, too. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Enjoy your LMG-free workspace!
Won I saw on my little friend slate thingy that the appointment went well, I’m so glad. That’s very good news!
Jen I’ll check it out ASAP, thanks! I’m anxious to try it.
LemonDrop had her last final today, she was so happy when she got home. Now she has nothing but work and working out (getting ready for the trip) between her and our fabulous vacation. Yay! LP and LC still have about six weeks, unfortunately for them (and me!), but I know it will go by fast. The closer the trip gets, the faster each day seems to be going. I feel I am running out of time to get everything done and be ready myself! We got a couple more little pieces squared away today and I am hoping to finally make those last reservations either tomorrow or Monday at the latest. Then maybe I can relax a bit. I hope.
In other news, I finally resigned from 1st Turning Point, the website I was helping out on. With everything going on here and the trip and everything else, I just had to step down. It sucks because it was a great vehicle for getting my name out there more and I feel guilty about leaving them because they have all helped and supported me SO much, but it was really time. I have too much other stuff to focus on right now, and too many stressors. I needed to cut down a bit. But I will still be their ultimate cheerleader. :) I’m also putting several of my email loops on digest to cut down on email, I want to clear my slate as much as possible over the next several months. The upside to all of that is I will have more time to spend here, gearing up for, planning and being excited about the trip together. Only 68 more days now!
Felipe I had some questions for you about the hotel and the park and a couple other things, but I completely forgot to write them down when I thought of them, so of course I’ve forgotten them all now. sigh This is NOT a sign of aging. (It’s not, it’s not, it’s not! I refuse! LOL) My memory has always been bad, which is why I rely on lists and writing everything down. Unless I forget, then I’m messed up. But I’ll be sure to post them when (IF!) they come back to me.
The new poll appears to have died already, or else no one has noticed a new poll question yet. I have a feeling that it’s been such a long time that no one even looks at the box any more. I do every day, not just to get here, but because the daily quote/question is usually right next to it and I get a little charge out of answering correctly, LOL. I am easily amused. Unless I get it wrong, then I’m just irritated! ;)
I got an email from Leaky about uploading pictures to our name badges for the conference, did everyone see that one? I’d already uploaded ours a long time ago, but signed in to them all just to double check. The email stressed that it had to be an actual photo, nothing cartoonish or anything, so I ended up changing LP’s. The one she had in there was done in the Mac imaging deal where you can get creative with the pictures. It wasn’t exactly a cartoon, but it was done in black and white and like a pencil sketch, so not a true photo. She’s so picky about her pictures that I know I will need to get her approval for the one I chose to avoid a meltdown later, but I think it’s a really cute one. I just used the pic I use as my “author photo” for mine. LD has her senior pic and LC has one from a ren faire like mine, in his pirate gear. I would have used a regular one for him, but we don’t have any of him by himself that are recent where he’s actually smiling nicely. All three of my kids have gone through the phase where they grit their teeth or don’t show their teeth at all or some other weird thing that makes their pictures not turn out that great. LC is the last one, I can’t wait until he gets out of this phase, it drives me crazy. He’s such a cutie, but his photos do not reflect his best smiles at all. The DS has one he uses on his photography website, so he got that one. Hopefully everyone is happy with their badges! Such complications! LOL
Have a good night, everyone!
Josie, for me, the spoilers aren’t so much about what will happen, since, as you said, I do already know that from the books. It’s more about not wanting to know how it’s being portrayed on-screen – knowing how it will look, how lines will be said, what will be changed, etc. I want as much as possible of it to be new the first time I watch the movie, because it’s the last time to have that one first reaction. After that, I’ll watch it over and over, and yes, I will spot new things each time, but I will already have an overall impression of the film. I’ve found in the past that watching all the stuff ahead of time and reading interviews or reviews tends to make me already start forming an impression before I go in, and then I’m sitting there judging everything against that preconceived opinion. Also, if it’s a scene that I’ve seen over and over again in previews and accompanying interviews, I tend to zone out during it in the movie, like, “Yeah, yeah, I’ve seen this a million times; get on to something new,” and I don’t want to feel like that with this one. I completely understand the people who want to see every little bit that’s out there, and it’s tough restraining myself and not giving in to temptation, but hopefully it’ll pay off when I finally see the movie. :)
Deanie, hope you’re able to get your insurance issue resolved easily. I had my first issue with an insurance company recently. I received letters saying that the charges for my appointment and bloodwork were being denied as not covered under my policy. Since I do this every 6 months, I know that it’s covered, so I called to see what the problem was. They said I had to fill out a form describing my “injury”…I told them there was no injury; it was a regular medication-check appointment. They said to just fill out the injury form and explain that. I did; they still denied it, saying that since it was submitted as an injury, that’s how they had to treat it; my explanation form couldn’t change that. (Why have me fill it out then?) So, I called the doctor’s office, and they said it looked like it had been submitted under the wrong code and they’d re-submit, but that I had to contact the lab about the bloodwork coding. I did, and they said that my file had mentioned “joint pain” so they had interpreted that as injury. So, I had to go through my whole appointment, explaining that the doctor had asked if I’d been experiencing any neck, leg, or back pain – a standard question asked as these med-check appointments. I mentioned the leg cramping and back pain I’d been getting, though I doubted it was suddenly caused by the medication I’ve been taking for ages. She said to take a multi-vitamin (which, incidentally, does seem to be helping), but that she’d do bloodwork to check iron and potassium levels, since the meds can sometimes affect those. No injury, no reason for this to be treated any differently than the dozens of other times we’ve done this same thing. (I’ve never had the back pain before, but she does periodically do the bloodwork anyway.) I just finally got the letter from the insurance yesterday, 3 months later, stating that they will cover it. Such unnecessary hassle!
Hooray, Asti! I hope work will become much more pleasant for you now! (And I will now begin crossing my fingers that whoever they bring in to replace LMG will be a much better fit so you don’t have to start all over with this stress again!)
Lemon, I think cutting back on your email groups and stepping down from the website was a good decision…not just selfishly because it means you’ll be here more, but also because it would mean you’d have more time to focus on your own writing. How is everything going with that? Which projects are you working on now?
Thanks for the heads up on the LeakyCon email; I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ll go look. Like you, I uploaded one originally, but I will double-check that it’s still all set. I used that same one I have on FB & Twitter, which, appropriately enough, was taken at the last LeakyCon! :) I wonder if they ran into problems last time with people using each other’s nametags to sneak into events and that’s why they’re doing this? I think I also read somewhere though that they may put together a program book with the people who attended (unless you select the “opt out” to prevent your picture from being used on anything other than the badge)…I think that would be a great idea, so that later when I see names online and am not sure if I met them, I can take a peek at the book to remind me. Plus, it could be like a yearbook, where we could have people write notes next to their pictures – sort of like that one girl who was having everyone sign her book last time, except now with pictures. :) I can’t remember where I read it though, and it was just something being considered, so it may not be happening.
Yikes, this is longer than I’d intended. I suppose it would be a good idea to get some work done now. ;)
I really want to go home, but I will stick it out here and save my leave time. ;)
Break lurk! ;)
Wow, it is quiet, isn’t it!
I’m a bit surprised there hasn’t been a bit more activity at the new poll. Then again, we only got a few randoms when this one was new.
HW is our “newest” person, and she seems to have disapperated……….
I am so glad we don’t have to deal with insurance companies for medical care. Jen and Deanie’s stories show them as needlessly petty. I also read a very good book called “So Much For That,” by Lionel Shriver, who deals with the emotional and financial cost of a US woman facing cancer. It’s very good, and surprisingly funny in parts. I really am becoming quite a big fan of hers. I love the way she writes people, with all their quirks and foibles.
When DS and son went to The Ryder Cup, they had to have photo ID tags. As son was not classed as an adult, he had to wear his Dad’s face on his ID all day. He was not impressed!
Graymayne, I bought The Hare With Amber Eyes today. Daughter had some Easter money and wanted to buy a book, and there was a “buy one get on half price” offer, which included both. So I treated myself.
Afternoon, everyone! Wow, it is quiet here, and at the new poll. Must be almost-end-of-the-week fatigue or something, or else nice weather and everyone’s outside for a change. It’s overcast here today (what else is new) but warmer than it has been, and we did actually have a bright sunny day yesterday.
Jen the yearbook idea is FABULOUS, I hope that’s what they’re doing! That would be a great way to keep everyone straight and really help us all keep up with each other afterward. I know I fell off with everyone we met last time, except Lianna, and even her I only check in with once every six months or so. Did you know she is on staff for LC2011 now? I was going through the Board positions last night and exploring the full website since I was signed in and hadn’t really checked absolutely everything out before, and there she was! She’s helping out with content. I thought that was very cool, like you being a Transcription Elf.
Thanks on the stepping down stuff. :) It is REALLY hard for me to do that, but I’ve gotten a lot better about not signing up for anything new. I still have the membership chair duties for two chapters, but that’s really it. Hot Summer Nights fell apart for this year, mostly because I didn’t step up to run it again after telling them I couldn’t, which is true. We’ll be in Florida when it would normally be held! Since that project was sort of my baby, it was really tough to sit back and watch it die, but there was just no way I could do it a third year in a row with very little help. They’ve set up a new committee now to handle it or another program like it starting next summer, and I also stayed off of that. So I’m getting better. At the end of this year my term as membership chair for Seattle will be over and I’m definitely not running again for that one, so then I’ll only be membership chair for Everett, which is a MUCH smaller chapter, plus they don’t do a conference or anything, which seriously adds to the duties for Seattle. However, I did essentially promise to be chapter president for my Olympia chapter in 2013 (their Board positions are two-year terms and we just voted in a new Board, which I also stayed off of, with the caveat that I would serve next time, since they’ve been asking me basically since three months after I joined, LOL.) But that is also a fairly small chapter, so it shouldn’t be too bad.
I’m taking a long summer hiatus on the writing until after we get back from LeakyCon. Between the exercise (which is taking anywhere up to about 6 hours a day now) and everything required to get five people ready for the conference and the trip as a whole and everything going around here, the writing just wasn’t happening and I was feeling very guilty about it. I decided that was counterproductive and I should allow myself to take a break to focus on the two biggest things we have going: my own health and fitness, and the first, biggest, most important family trip ever. I still work lightly on the world building and take notes whenever an idea hits, but other than that, it is waiting until August.
My main project is still the fantasy series, which I am really looking forward to getting back into, and also revising the contemporary romance that I finished last year. I’m not in a big hurry on that (obviously! LOL It’s already been about eight months!), but I will be happy to finally have that in publication-worthy form after putting so much effort into writing the darn thing.
So that will keep me pretty busy and out of trouble once we get back, and if I’m lucky will also help me get over the post-LeakyCon doldrums that we all went though last time, especially given the final movie will be out and over and all of that. I have a feeling that depressive state might be even worse this time, although one piece of good news I found while trolling around the LeakyCon site last night is that they do definitely see more conferences in the future, just with a “slightly different focus.” So hopefully we’ll still have more to look forward to!
Deanie and Jen those insurance hassles are just infuriating, I have NO patience with that kind of jerking around. I had some health stuff come up in February and dealing with the insurance and all the bills since then (remind me again why we even HAVE insurance when they hardly cover anything???) has been a nightmare, so I know exactly what you’re dealing with. The worst time I ever went through, though, was when I took out my ACL in my left knee while hiking up in Yosemite. We had an HMO at the time, and that was the worst process I have ever dealt with in my life. My DS, who is extremely mild-mannered and calm at almost all times, actually threw the phone into the wall at one point. I’ve never seen him so angry or lose such control in all the years we’ve been together. WE have a PPO now, and even though it costs more and it still doesn’t seem like they cover anything, it’s worth it to not have to go through the HMO nightmare again. It was awful. Jen I’m glad yours finally got sorted out, and Deanie I hope it doesn’t take them as long as it did with Jen to get yours dealt with!
My timer went off, time to get offline and get back to the exercise! See you guys later!
Hi Asti! I thought the new poll might bring in more people, since the trailer is a more “discussable” topic than this one, with things to debate about how stuff will be portrayed, but it seems like Lemon’s probably right; people probably aren’t even looking at the poll box anymore. I know I usually don’t, despite checking in on the home page every day…after I look at my “Wizarding Wireless” and the news stories, I usually just come here directly through browser history. LOL at your son having to have his dad on his badge. :)
Hi Lemon! I didn’t know about Liana…and I just asked her today if she was going, and she said she’s negotiating with her husband, but didn’t even mention being on staff! That’s very cool. I was actually just looking at my transcription stuff today. I haven’t done one in about 6 months, and I haven’t received any emails, so I don’t know if they’ve just stopped sending them to me because it had been so long, or if they just haven’t been doing anything with it because of LeakyCon. I’ll have to email them soon to see what’s up.
I agree about the post-con depression; at least last time we knew we had this year’s to look forward to. Hopefully stuff will work out with that class I need to take, because if I’m facing having to take a year off from school, it’ll be even more miserable to come home from the con. I suppose at that point, I’ll need to turn my focus to the upcoming library conferences and figuring out who I can meet up with at each of them! ;)
I have to admit, I havn’t seen the trailer. I enjoyed DH Part 1, but am having mixed feelings about Part 2. I know they’ll change it, and I know I’ll be an emotional wreck when I see it. I’m a little worried about seeing it, to be honest. I cried so very much at the book, I’m afraid of making a fool of myself in public………….either that or it’ll be tears of rage…………
What are your plans for the summer? Do you have stacks of books lined up to read? Or will you be working as much as you can?
I’m working overtime tomorrow. I have £200 of extra bills this month, which, while not unexpected, is hurting a bit, lol! Daughter’s ballet fees, a school trip, I finally got my credit card paid off, (yay!) and DS and I are going to The Chelsea Flower Show at the end of this month. I am really looking forward to that!
Lemon, I would be delighted if you have more time to spend playing here! And I’m really impressed at how serious you are about exercising. I’m sure you’ll come back to your writing refreshed and full of new ideas.
Okay, I’m here. I had to take my MIL to the hair salon this morning instead of to the grocery. Unfortunately, I found I had my mother’s toilet tissue, two bags of her oranges, and her wallet in my car. So, after I left my MIL at the hair dresser I went to take all my mother’s belongings to her.
While I was there I liberated my 35 year old bicycle from my parent’s garage to take it to the bike repair shop to be refurbished. Then, I went back to pick up my MIl and take her home.
When I walked into the repair shop the man said, “Oh! That is a good old bike!” He was actually quite excited about it and told me it was well worth repairing. He said the bike is no longer made and if one were to try to by something new that was of a similar quality it would cost $400. He is going to replace the tires and some other old rotten parts and have it ready by tomorrow.
Then, on my way home I went to pick out some summer shorts. I chose a few pair and when they checked me out the price was FAR less than I had expected. They were on sale for Mother’s Day! I now have a pair in every color they had on the rack.
DEANIE, I have cancelled my order with the Birkenstock Company. I have called many times to receive no answer but have managed to leave three messages and have had no reply from them. I called my credit card company and they never put the order through. I did get an order confirmation with a confirmation number but they don’t seem to have processed the order and no one is answering the phones or returning phone calls. I fear they may not be in business anymore. So, I am going this afternoon to the local Birkenstock store. You might call them before placing another order online.
Hi, LEMON, I owe you a real email.
I have gone to the LeakyCon website and I have confirmed my photo and changed my daughter’s photo. I had one of my daughter I really liked but it was a 3/4 face and not a full face photo. So, I became paranoid now that the email specifically said “full face” and not just that it had to be a photo of the face. I did not have a current photo in the phone that I really liked so this morning as I put my daughter out at school I called her back to the car and popped a photo. So, I have fulfilled the requirements for the photos for LeakyCon.
I hope there is a yearbook. While I was there I noticed that the instructions asked what you wanted on your name tag. It said if you didn’t put something in the blank it would automatically be your first name and last initial. I think it just automatically fills itself in that way so I had not paid attention that I could have something else.
So, I put “my real first name, Lady Hawke”. That was I’m covered if anyone there at LeakyCon has ever come to Poll Comments and is just dying to know who I am.
Have to go pick up the child and head to the Birkenstock store.
Oh, ASTI, that is wonderful news about LMG! I hope she stays in the other department, never to return to yours.
This came from our IT staff. Keep safe.

Won Didn’t you say you had seen one of these pictures? I hope your information has not been compromised. ;)
BWJen, I also prefer to watch the movie without the bias that one gets from the spoilers. I usually look at the preview only. I never read the reviews because of the reasons you already mentioned. For me, previews are just appetizers. Less is more.
Just passing by to flurk.
I saw pix of the Compound & the 3 other men that were killed… There are NO pix of Bin Laden out there… The pix I saw were from Reuters… So they are legit and clean.
