Morning, everyone! We’ve been watching lots of pre-wedding coverage here in the build up to the big event. So far the weather is holding, which is great news! We started off with a Canadian station but have now switched to the Today Show’s coverage. Still nearly two hours to go! LP is the only one up with me. I’m drinking champagne, we played some cards and are now looking through one of her bridal magazines, which she collects the way I did, LOL.

Yes, I was so pleased to see it was not raining, at least yet.

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

I’m watching coverage on TLC. The cable company deleted the extra channels, so I don’t have BBC America, but TLC has only people with British accents doing the coverage. They may be streaming off BBC America for the day. I have no idea who the commentators are.

I thought it was interesting that Kate’s princess title will be Princess William of Wales because she was not born royalty, so she has to take her husband’s name, rather than a born princess who would be Princess Katherine in her own right. I was confused by that because even though Diana was nobility, she wasn’t born royalty, yet she was still Princess Diana. I figure you two know more about that than me. She’ll be a princess by marrying William, right, so will she be addressed as Princess Katherine, but Princess William of Wales is her official title, or will she actually be addressed as Princess William? Or will she only be addressed as Duchess?

No, Diana wasn’t Princess Diana. That is just what people insisted on calling her.

She was HRH Diana, The Princess of Wales. So, she was meant to be referred to as The Princess of Wales, not Princess Diana.

Catherine/Kate will be HRH Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge. She will also be Princess William of Wales just as the wife of the Queen’s cousin is Princess Michael of Kent.

People are supposed to call her The Duchess of Cambridge now. Technically, she could also be called Princess William but not Princess Catherine. Unfortunately, she isn’t a princess since she wasn’t born one and neither was Diana.

That’s so confusing! LOL But so won’t Katherine be princess of anything? She is a princess by marrying William, isn’t she?

Oops, off the phone before I read your message. I’m certain my mother and I will be talking again.

Alexandra’s throat is really sore and she ate nothing but icecream yesterday and only had two servings of that. She couldn’t even drink water or suck on ice. The icecream seemed to go down easier than anything but she couldn’t even consider eating anything with any consistency.

Morning all! I’m on the PC. I have posted the wedding bracelet on CC. I haven’t really settled down to watch yet as I have been getting ready and my DS has gone off to his picnic with his ukulele friends. I am wearing my treasure bead bracelet and and necklace.

The Queen has given Prince William three new titles, Duke of Cambridge and an earldom and a baronetcy, the names of which didn’t register. It means that Catherine will be known as HRH the Duchess of Cambridge. It is the same situation as with Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, their wives became Duchess of York and Countess of Wessex respectively.

I’m off to watch the fun. I’ll take the laptop with me.

Well, she is Princess William. She won’t be HRH Catherine, The Princess of Wales until Charles becomes king and vacates the title of Prince of Wales and hands it over to William.

It is Catherine with a C but they got “Kate” out of it. I suppose I’ve never seen “Cate” as a name.

Ah, okay, so once Charles becomes king, then she will be Princess of Wales? I want her to be a princess, LOL. She’s marrying her prince, she needs to be a princess!

Yes, one would imagine Charles will relinquish Prince of Wales once he is king. Then, that will free the title Princess of Wales up for Catherine. No one wants Camilla the Cow to have it, even on a technicality.

You do realize Camilla the Cow is actually Princess of Wales even though she doesn’t “style” to that title. The wife of the Prince of Wales is automatically Princess of Wales, even if she doesn’t call herself that.

Charles will have to do an investiture to make William Prince of Wales. It won’t be done quietly. There will be a bit of a coronation.

I’ll look forward to the day that Prince William becomes Prince of Wales and Catherine becomes Princess of Wales. And absolutely on Camilla the Cow, LOL. I would NOT want to refer to her with that title.

When Charles was invested Princess of Wales I think he was 21 and far from being married. I remember the ceremony was outside at Caernarfon Castle, Wales. It was in 1969 so you don’t remember it as you were an infant.

Yeah, no, LOL. The only royal occasions I really remember are Charles & Diana’s wedding and Diana’s funeral. I vaguely remember Fergie’s wedding, but I don’t think I stayed up to watch that one. You know way more about all of it than I do. I need to spend some time learning all the ins and outs. It interests me so much, but I have never taken the time to really get into it all. I envy your ready knowledge!

This is the first royal occasion that I am old enough to remember. I was 1 1/2 years old on Diana wedding. I’ve been awake for about 5 minutes so I’ve missed the first hour of the bbc special but luckily I’ve DVR’d it.

So far my favorite detail and, I don’t know if this is correct, is the reason she’s arriving in the car is to arrive as a “commoner” and leave as “royalty”.

There appear to be no commercials on the channel I am watching so once the coffee consumption starts kicking in I am going to have to make strategic choices about when to run for the bathroom.

Yes, KOREY, that is the symbolism they have attached to her mode of transportation. I sort of took it her family is paying for the limosine that brings her to the Abbey and once she is a Royal Duchess she will leave with her Duke/Prince in a Royal carriage.

Most of the people in the Abbey won’t be able to see anything except the procession in and out. As I recall the Abbey seems to be essentially a series of rooms with a central aisle and each one is pretty much obscurred from the next one. So, one the bridal party passes they will not be seen again until they pass out. The only people who actually see it will be the family and friends in the last section where the alter is.

My aunt and uncle are at a Motel 8 in Florence so they must not have had any power at their house. That is inconvenient to be 70 miles away but at least they can go hang out with family.

Here I am on the laptop.

Lady Hawke I don’t agree with you that Diana was a commoner. Her father was an earl, she was Lady Diana Spencer. The consolation is that any children that Kate and William have will be princes and princess by virtue of the royal blood.
