There is a confirmed tornado heading straight for this area. I am going into the storm cellar now … BBL…
I’m back… The tornado pooped out as it crossed the river, but the straight line winds were wicked… I have not left the basement as yet… I did hear some ‘clunking’ sounds.. No crashes thank goodness… Will update as I get up and around to take a good look…
My aunt and uncle who lost their tree were evacuated to a church basement. The church was hit. They are physically okay but have not been back to find out what happened to their house. My aunt is not “handling” it well but we don’t know the details. They only have cell phones and the only way they can charge them is to use the car battery. My cousin, the grandson of my aunt and uncle, has been in contact with my mother. He is planning to find them an intact motel room that has electricity so they have somewhere to go. His sister and her family, the place where my aunt and uncle are at present, have no electricity.
WON, if you have a place of safety just stay there. Obviously you are planning to do so. I must admit it seems a bit insane that since we do this routine every single spring to some level that no one around here has anywhere to go.
The doctor is doing a overnight culture for strep. He is also doing a full blood panel on my daughter but he is inclined toward the problem being Mon
Evening all! I just rushed here after seeing the storm footage on TV. I hope you are all safe and well.
Oops. Mononucleosis…She has swollen lymph glands and is spiking high fevers. He says it could be several days before the mono will show up on tests. So, if she is still spiking fevers on Sunday he will want to see her on Monday and check her again.
My cousin could not find a hotel with accommodations that also had electricity and space any closer than 70 miles from the devastation. The place he found was back in my mother’s home town. If they can go that far they could stay with family. My other cousin I talk about frequently and his wife could take them in. The granddaughter they are staying with who has no power is trying to take them to their house, hoping to find it standing, to collect some necessary items like clothing and medical needs.
Oh hurrah! Lady Hawke, that is just what you needed to hear! I hope Little Hawke gets better fast! ;)
Won stay safe! ;)
Break lurk! ;)
I can’t get into Yahoo here and it seems there is a problem there, because I’m having trouble with it on my netbook now. Is anyone else having problems with Ya? ;)
Deanie I got on to CC without any trouble.
DEANIE,
I found my way into CC with no trouble either.
Another reason the doctor is thinking mono instead of flu is my normally sneezing, coughing child is doing none of that. She has not coughed once since this began and she is hardly blowing her nose at all. He says if it was the flu he would expect to see her normals complaints amplified instead of strangely absent.
I’ve been reading about mono. This fever could go on for days or weeks. If it is mono the fatigue could last for months. I am seeing visions of myself pushing a wheelchair around Disney World. Please, oh Please, do not let me catch it if it is mono. To my knowledge I have never had mono.
No problems with cc for me either.
It seems mono is known as glandular fever in other English speaking countries.
WON, it has been long enough. Are you okay? You said you would let us know what is going on?
Good evening. I am relieved to get here…….. it’s been all over the news about your storms. I have been worried. So many dead, it’s horrific. Lady Hawke, I hope your Aunt and Uncle are settled soon, I I hope the house is ok. Won, stay safe and careful, and Everyone Else in the danger zone. xx
Clarification please………. a “straight line wind” sounds like it means what it says, very strong damaging winds but not swirly, not a tornado?
Lady Hawke, your daughter might have Glandular Fever? I really hope not, for all of your sakes. I hope the test comes back clear.
And, for some light relief, and hopefully enjoyment by all, an alternative version of The Royal Wedding………….. thanks to my son for showing me! I hope you like it!
It might have been helpful if I’d included the link……… bear with me……….

I finally got there on the netbook, but by then I had run out of time to play. ;)
At least we only have to justify our existances for another week. I hope they don’t decide that they like knowing whhat we do every blasted minute and extend or make it permanent. ;)
Oh! Yerterday I went past a little market that has been closed for about six months and they have a new sign. It is a banner and part of it got blown loose, so it’s hard to read and part of it never did unfold enough to read. What does it mean? it said, in large letters across most of the sign “Proxemamente”, and around the bottom of a circle, “Carnecer…” I couldn’t read the rest of the word. The top part of the circle never did become visible as it flapped in the wind. I somehow think it means something along the lines of “Coming Soon” “Grocery Store with a Meat Counter”. It is in an area where there has been a marked increase in the Hispanic population. I hope it does. It is a needed resource in that part of town.
I obviously speak very little Spanish and what little I know isn’t even enough to ask for the rest room. But because I like knowing where words come from, I can piece out a little meaning, sometimes. ;)
I am blatently wasting time. I will check my email one last time before I go home. ;)
Hometime in just over 20. ;)
Bbl. ;)
ASTI, I haven’t looked at your link yet but, yes, a straight line wind is exactly what it says. I had never heard of one until one of them took a tree down on our house. We had a GREAT BIG WIND that was very wide and traveled many, many miles and had no rotation, It was just straight wind that blew very hard, hurricane force, for twenty or thirty minutes. Straight line winds can take down trees, rip roofs off houses and knock walls in.
I was reading about mono and came across an article that indicated mono was what Americans called a illness the rest of the world called Glandular Fever. If it is Glandular Fever/Mono it could finish off the school year and compromise the summer substantially,
Fortunately, the school has already divorced itself from following a regular curriculum and is focused on the state standardized tests in two weeks. Even if she is ill she should be able to manage to get to school to sit for those. By then the fever should have ended.
I still have hope it will just be some unindentifiable virus that will run its course over the weekend.
Checking in. The devastation is incredible, I am so glad to see that our people, as far as we know, are safe. I’m keeping prayers ongoing and fingers crossed for those we’ve yet to hear from. One of my writing friends’ best friends lost her daughter in Tuscaloosa. She was a student at the University. It’s just awful. I don’t know what to do except continue praying. You are all in my thoughts. Please stay safe!
LH I’m so sorry to hear that LittleHawke is so sick on top of everything else. :( I hope, hope, hope it is not mono. My mother had it in college and it wiped her out for months afterward. I’m sending the strongest Protegos I know to keep you or your DS from getting it, and just hoping against hope that it’s not what she has. Not to make things worse, but does she have any sort of headache with it, or sore neck? Can she touch her chin to her chest without pain? That is my first-line test for meningitis. As bad as mono can be, especially the long recovery period, it is still preferable to meningitis. I assume the doctor would have asked and/or checked for that if she had further symptoms of it, but I always worry about that one. Lots of prayers are coming your way. :( Please give her extra hugs from me.
I am off to bed early for a change, but I will be up with the lark in the morning and will post my photo of the Wedding Bracelet. I will be wearing the smart design number 2, with a minor change as a necklace.
Sleep well and stay safe and well everybody.
Sorry, my internet has been out till just now… No real damage here… Just a missing mailbox, and some busted up lawn furniture.
WON, glad you are okay. You took more damage than we did. The storms really seemed to intensify once they passed through here. It wasn’t a pleasant night here but not the worst we ever had. It is horrifying what happened after it left western MS.
My mother has still not heard from her brother’s excursion back to his house. If by some miracle they reach the house and have power I would not leave.
LEMON, I don’t think meningitis is even a thought. There is no problem with the mobility of her neck and she only has a touch of headache. As you know she has migraines so she would know what a bad headache is like and that does not appeat to be an issue. All she is complaining of is an incredibly sore throat and achiness. She also goes through rounds of chills and then perspiring profusely.
Won it sounds like you came through with minor scratches comparatively, though damage of any kind is always unsettling. I’m glad you stayed safe.
LH that’s a relief! Now on to just praying hard that it’s not mono. Have you heard if anyone else in the school is out with it? Poor baby, she must be miserable. :( It’s the worst thing to have a child not feeling well. I hope you are both able to get some rest and that she gets some relief. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}
LEMON, some boy in her class went home with a sore throat last week and has not returned. So, who knows what is wrong with him, whether it is strep or mono? She says he is the class clown and tends to get right in your face.
I am going to bed soon. I want to get some sleep before morning. I did not sleep very much Tuesday because of the tornadoes. Then, I didn’t sleep well last night with a sick child and the whole 3 AM call to the doctor and the staying up for an hour to try to break the fever. Then, by the time I made it back to bed and started to relax my DS’s alarm went off and although I drowsed I never really slept. I’ve managed to force myself to stay awake all day so I would be sure to sleep when I finally lay down tonight. I can make it if I can get some sleep soon.
I hope you get some rest, LadyHawke. See you in the AM for the wedding!
Protego spells for LittleHawke may she recover quickly. I am waiting for some laundry.
I have seen the video of the tornados. O.O
Those looked so scary!
“Senior Clerk” has been working lately. I had to tell the principal that this person I can work with. She is friendly, helpful, and hard working. I am flabbergasted. It has been two weeks and she is doing well. Unfortunately I have to document good and bad behavior and she gas been really good. I don’t know if she will be transferred or fired. I seriously doubt she will be fired. She has been in the district too long. Like Deanie she is practically rooted to the job. I don’t think she can be fired.
I want to watch the wedding. :(
Tomorrow we leave for Peoria to attend our annual soccer tournament there. I am looking forward to the mini vacation. That will be so nice.
Have been watching a few episodes of a BBC show called “Doc Martin” on Netflix. It is on instant watch
and I highly recommend it.
There is a tornado in VA just on the opposite side of the Potomac heading straight for my area… heading for the storm cellar now as the alert just went off…
