Thanks Felipe! Do you have anything planned for your weekend?

Ironsos, hopefully your laptop will arrive sooner than they suggest? I’m glad to see you can still get online though.

ironsos yes, 6 days does seem really long. But i’m sure it’ll be worth it!

I’ve been thinking of getting an netbook or something like that, vs getting a smart phone. My non-smart phone’s contract is up this summer.but first I have to think whether I want to be able to check email all the time, since I already spend so much time in front of a computer. Do I really need/want to be emailable the other 8-9 hrs of the day? Most of my brain says “NOOOOOOOOO” but there’s the workaholic part that is saying yes!!!

Sigh. I hate it when my brain disagrees with itself.

It’s about time she baked another batch! I think the last lot are still festering under PB’s icecream freezer in the corner of The Great Hall. I’m throwing a dark chocolate Hobnob in your direction instead. They’re very yummy!

I believe my Mum is getting me a Kindle for my birthday. And no, you work far too hard as it is. You need to relax and detach when you are at home. There are other ways to reach you if it is really necessary.

Nope asti, no plans, but several possibilities. Maybe go out for drinks, maybe go to Universal since my annual pass has been collecting dust for a while now, or maybe just rest. I’d be happy no matter what. Just being off work for a couple of days will be good :-P

I’ll agree with that, Felipe! Having a few days to do as much or as little as you want is luxury! I plan on reading and practising piano, both enjoyable and relaxing, though the reluctant housewife in me tells me I need to get out the feather duster and de cobweb the corners of the ceilings. That’ll be fun!!!. I hope you have a good weekend, whatever you end up doing.

It was good to talk to you too! Yes, my ability to stomp is getting stronger. :) Have fun with the reading and piano… booooo de-cobwebbing! Though I can see the benefit to that, too. Hmm.

Felipe that sounds nice!! Agree with asti – even just a few days helps so much! :)

ooh I just recalled – Jen hope your electricity came back on. Or will come back on, soon! If you do need to toss out a lot of food, though, it’s worth asking the electric company if they can reimburse you for it, esp since it wasn’t your fault it got disconnected. I was in a 3 day blackout years ago, and since it was because of a mistake on the part of the electric company’s repair crew, they had to reimburse those affected. You had to itemize the food that was spoiled, though, so keep a list of the stuff you have/had to chuck.

Evening all! We have had a pleasant day with sunshine and a lot of clouds, some with showers.

I took my list of hospital events to my doctor and explained that the nurse last week had been surprised by some of the information that I had been giving her during my session with her. I made no accusations, just let him mull over the implications. He is happy with my BP and has changed my Simvastin to an alternative and will see me in a month’s time.

BWJen I hope that everything goes smoothly with your Dad’s new housing venture. It sounds as though the family will find the move a distinct boost to their way of life. Nice to have another generation going to the same school which still has a good reputation.

Hufflebug Nice to see you dropping in and having some fun.

Asti I am well into Ursula under, it is very intriguing and the writer seems to be very knowledgeable about deafness. I wonder if she has a family member or friend with this problem. My DS will be away at a ukulele camp this weekend so I can just stick my nose in my book if I want. I bought a copy of The King’s Speech in Sainsbury’s this morning for less than Amazon is currently charging – £8. I want to acknowledge Colin Firth’s achievement and the great team effort which has garnered many awards.

Off to bed.

Hi, everyone!

LH good luck breaking in your shoes. I’m all about wildly beautiful shoes in my regular wardrobe, as my closet attests, LOL, but for the trip, I’m all about functional, comfortable, supportive, cooling. I don’t give a strand of Merlin’s beard what anything looks like if it accomplished those objectives, LOL, and in fact I can guarantee that my family is going to be walking around looking like the most touristy of tacky tourists a great deal of the time. But I won’t care as long as we manage to stay as comfortable as possible. I predict your not-wildly-beautiful Berkies will look miles above whatever we are wearing! You may be embarrassed to be seen in our company. I won’t blame you. ;)

I’m test-driving pants right now for those above-stated objectives, or I should say workout capris. They’re nothing close to special or cute. Black spandex-y (but loose, not the skintight stuff! No one wants to see that!), sort of yoga-y style. So far, so good. No weird seams that rub in unfortunate places, and they handle the six mile walks pretty well. I may just stock up on those, a pair for each day, and add different tops to them. For LeakyCon, of course, I’ll be in costume, so this is just for park days, but I think they may work out pretty well. And they’re cheap enough that if they get messed up or whatever, I can trash them without much qualm. They’re also thin enough to pack easily, lightly and not take up much space. It’s unfortunate that they’re black in that they will suck up that Florida sun and heat like a magnet, but I didn’t like the grey and any lighter colors than that would be problematic on water rides for obvious reasons. So, black it is. The kid and husband will all have cute shorts and capris in different styles and fabrics, but I am sticking to basics.

LH you’re too right about the building codes, LOL. Although with those other disasters at least no one knows for sure where they’re going to hit (hurricanes notwithstanding; anyone too close to the coast is in the same boat as people in a flood plain, IMO.) A person could live in Tornado Alley and never get a direct hit. With the flood plains, it’s all just a matter of time. Eventually, it WILL flood, even if it’s once every hundred years.

Jen I hope the power is back on and you didn’t lose anything. I know too well how aggravating that is. In 2006 when we had the big wind storm here and were without power for six days we lost everything, and I had just stocked up on all the expensive stuff – meats, etc. That’s awesome news for your Dad, though, congratulations to him! And to you, whichever way you decide, LOL. It’s nice to have the option, anyway, but I know what you mean about the independence. That’s tough to give up.

Asti enjoy your days off! I’m trying to slow down a bit with the exercise, but I’m such an all-or-nothing compulsive, LOL. I’m so afraid of slipping into the “nothing” and undoing everything I’ve improved over the last six months. But it looks like my body is forcing me to slow down, so now I will have to listen, at least for a few days. :)

Hi, Huff! Good luck on the new routine!

Ironsos I hope the laptop arrives sooner than stated. Computer problems always flummox me so much, I don’t even like to think about them in case my computer decides to take advantage of my momentary weakness with a demonstration of just what havoc it can wreak if it chooses. ;) There, there, nice computer, good computer… LOL I will try to heed the exercise warning! It’s just hard because I have this countdown clock ticking in my head reminding me how little time I have left to be ready for the trip. Tick-tock, tick-tock…. sigh

Felipe enjoy your days off, too! But start counting those pennies… you have a trip to plan for! Eh-hemm….

;)

Mother called. Daddy couldn’t walk. She said his legs wouldn’t support him. So I left my shopping cart and headed to their house after calling the doctor to find if they could see him. When I reached their house I could hardly get him up and into a wheelchair and into the car. Then getting out of the car and into the wheelchair at the doctor’s office was a challenge.

Once I got him him into the doctor’s office and checked in I called the school and told them I was working a medical problem and to see if my daughter had finished her test. They said she had and I could have her. So, I left my parents and headed out for my daughter. By the time we made it back to the office the doctor had been in and had ordered blood tests. Daddy was running a fever but no one can tell me how much it was. His blood pressure had also dropped out. When the doctor came back in he said my father’s white blood count was high so he had an infection somewhere. So, they gave him an injection of antibiotics in the office and a prescription for Augmentin. He has pulled my father off his blood pressure meds.

Then, I had to get my father back in the car. I felt and the doctor agreed I needed to spend the night with my parents tonight to supervise the moving around. So I went home, packed a bag for my daughter and me, fed the dogs, pulled dinner together for my DS, and stopped for fried chicken on the way back to my parent’s house.

So, I have my father in and settled and we’ve eaten our chicken. We’re watching my daughter’s new Celtic Woman DVD and later we’re going to watch THE KING’S SPEECH.

Now I have to fish the two blood pressure pills out of my father’s two weekly pill carriers.

Tomorrow is Friday the 13th…
Several theories have been proposed about the origin of the Friday the 13th superstition.
One theory states that it is a modern amalgamation of two older superstitions: that thirteen is an unlucky number and that Friday is an unlucky day.
In numerology, the number twelve is considered the number of completeness, as reflected in the twelve months of the year, twelve hours of the clock, twelve tribes of Israel, twelve Apostles of Jesus, twelve gods of Olympus, etc., whereas the number thirteen was considered irregular, transgressing this completeness. There is also a superstition, thought by some to derive from the Last Supper or a Norse myth, that having thirteen people seated at a table will result in the death of one of the diners.
Friday has been considered an unlucky day at least since the 14th century’s The Canterbury Tales, and many other professions have regarded Friday as an unlucky day to undertake journeys or begin new projects. Black Friday has been associated with stock market crashes and other disasters since the 1800s. It has also been suggested that Friday has been considered an unlucky day because, according to Christian scripture and tradition, Jesus was crucified on a Friday.
Personally, I have always had good fortune on Friday the 13th…

Huff – You put those rock cookies right back young lady!!! I need themto throw the at PB whenever he decides to grace us with his presence.

LadyHawke – I can not fathom carrying someone. Didn’t they think of hospitalizing your poor Dad? Your parents must adore you.

I am exhausted lately. I have been sequestered in an office with the principal trying to fit all the incoming 7th graders into homerooms. It is a tedious project since we have to look at reading scores of each student. That is 1,450 students. I hate the end of the year.

We also have two of our staff that we love dearlybattling cancer. One of them is a social studies teacher that worked as long as he could but stopped working a month ago. Today be sent us an e-mail telling us that his doctors have stopped chemotherapy because it is not helping him anymore. His cancer is still spreading. He will now be in hospice.

The other one is a fellow secretary at another school. She is fighting her cancer valiantly. She is still coming to work despite her weakness and pain. We all have told her to stay home but she refuses. She has lost so much weight we can’t recognize her anymore. She say she rather work than stay home and obsess over her possible death. We all know that soon she will not be able to come to work.

Cancer has been

MM, I did not have to carry him, thank goodness. I took the wheelchair as close as I could to him. Then, I got hold of the waistband of his pants and hauled up on them, helped him pivot, and guided him down. Then, we did the same thing from the wheelchair to the car, from the car to the wheelchair, from the wheelchair to the car, from the car to the wheelchair, from the wheelchair to the chair. I need to be here when he needs to get to the bathroom and then to bed.

I am hoping when the antibiotics start to kick in he will start feeling better and get his strength back. Since he has had an antibiotic by injection and orally and will have another orally before bedtime I hope he will be much improved by morning.

MM, I know you will be so glad when school is over. That is so sad to have so many people in such dire straights.

We are so glad to see you, MM.

LH I hope your poor dad feels much better soon. Try to enjoy the extra night out with your parents and daughter like a slumber party as much as you can, and do try to still get some rest yourself. Love and {{{{HUGS}}}} to you all.

MM I hope you get your energy back over the weekend. Be sure to rest, young lady! You need it. I will keep your coworkers in my thoughts. That’s so sad. I wish someone would find a cure already. :(

I am back from running errands, nothing terribly exciting although I did pick up two more pairs of wildly beautiful shoes for summer. :) Since we were discussing their opposites earlier, LOL. I won’t bring them on the trip, since trip shoes are all about function (except for the ball, of course), but they’ll be great for the rest of the summer. Now I just need a pedicure so I can dare to wear them. :)

I also picked up a new memory card and battery for my camera to have for the trip. It’s a decent camera, not great, but the battery has not been holding its charge at all. My DS has a fantabulous camera that he really wants to bring, but it’s big, bulky, heavy, requires lots of special equipment (extra flashes, lenses, etc.), and there’s no way he’d be comfortable storing it in lockers during certain rides or leaving it in the room, plus I’d worry about it getting wet if it rained or knocked around in the crowds or whatever. We’ll have slightly less nice photos out of mine, but much less trouble and worry. So that’s one more thing off the list of things to do for the trip. Yay!

That’s a good idea, Ironsos! I think we will. I would hate to have to worry about our good cameras on this big of a trip. :)

I’ve wasted the evening (and lots of $$$) away online tonight, shopping for HP related items. Whoohoooo!! LOL We finally decided to do away with our personalized license plates. We got CHZHEDS when we moved here, in honor of being Green Bay fans, but since we’re not going to be Green Bay fans again until certain people who shall remain nameless (Rodgers, Thompson, McCarthy…) are gone, it was time for a change. And I don’t know why we never had any HP-ness on the car anyway, as obsessed as I am and as much as I love to have absolutely everything accessorized just in case there are three people left on earth who can’t tell absolutely everything about me from 50 paces… LOL Well, there’s a reason they call them vanity plates, I know, but I can’t help it. I’ve always had personalized plates (my first one was JBBRJAW! In WI we had LUV A LMN and it was nice because WI actually put the spaces in there to help it make sense, where a lot of states, like our current one, won’t.)

Anyway, we’ve narrowed down our top HP choices and will be handling that next week. The best ones were already all taken, of course, but I think we came up with good options. SO I had to go get some HP license plate frames to go with, and a window decal to replace the Green Bay one. Now we’ll be all set! One I found on Cafe Press and just has red and gold long stripes top and bottom with a red “G” in the middle of the top for Gryffindor fans, and I made the other on a custom site. It says, “Favorite Teams: Gryffindor… and Whoever’s Playing Slytherin” on a red background with black font. Yay. :)

The other thing I made up tonight is for the DS for Father’s Day. We were talking about his work stuff – chickens, remember – and one thing and another and somehow landed on him being something of a “Chicken Whisperer” LOL. So I made up a baseball cap that has three little chicks with “Chicken Whisperer” across them in black type. I know it’s one of those you-had-to-be-there things, but at the time it was so funny, and I know he’ll wear it. Industry people will get a kick out of it if no one else does, especially when he’s working his booth at the local fairs.

That’s about it for me tonight. Between that stuff and the shoes earlier today, I have successfully blown my budget all to smithereens and need to go recover! Hope you’re all having a great night!

It was a rough night here. Daddy managed to take himself to bed and to the bathroom during the night but every time he got out of bed and went back he moaned and groaned very loudly for a long time. This morning he was sleeping but I went to check on him before taking my daughter to school and he told me he thought he was doing better and was willing to go to the podiatrist appointment we had scheduled.

After I got home and had a shower my mother called. She had gone back to take him his antibiotic but he couldn’t sit up to take it. So, she managed to take his hand and pull him up and when she told him to hold onto his walker so she could hand him his medicine he just fell backward. It took four tries to get his antibiotic down him.

We have called a private ambulance to come after him. It must be a private ambulance to cross state lines to the hospital. I need him down there with me where he is easily accessible instead of halfway across town.
