OMG!!!! WB is selling the Invisibility Cloak!!!!! http://www.wbshop.com/Harry-Potter-Authentic-Replica-Adult-Invisibility-Cloak/HPACINVCLOAK,default,pd.html?cgid=prodnew&AID=10447850&PID=4087690

I WAAAAAANNNNNNT!!!!!! But it’s like a gobzillion dollars, and it doesn’t even work. sniff

Hmph.

I still want it, though. ;)

Thanks, Deanie! One thing I found out by accident is that the flaxseed oil pills I’ve been taking might be contributing to it. I was watching something about weight loss on TV and they were talking about the diet that Kate Middleton reportedly was on before the wedding. One of the drawbacks according to the medical expert being interviewed was any diet high in lean protein is also going to be high in Omega 6, which is also often in pills for Omega 3. I looked and sure enough the pills have Omega 6 in them. Well, evidently, too much of that causes inflammation and aching. I’m going to back off on that stuff for a few days and see if it makes a difference, although it will be hard to say for certain since I’m also doing other things to improve the situation. But I thought it was interesting, in any case. :)

My heels are still really sore today, but not as bad as yesterday. By the time I went to bed last night, both calves had completely seized up as well. I can’t understand it. I’ve been exercising and thoroughly stretching for over six months now, shouldn’t I be passed all this crud? But I suspect the calf problem is due to the alteration in my gait now to try to appease the inflammation in my feet. That put new, different stress on my calves. It’s a fun little circle. Bleh. I am trying to work up the energy and will to go workout despite it all, since I was gone running errands all day today. I always hate getting home late and trying to workout at hat point, I never feel like doing it all so late in the day. And today is my long day. Even if I start now, I won’t finish until after 2 AM. I predict some things are not going to happen.

LH I’m glad you so enjoyed your night out! I’m hoping Celtic Woman comes out here some time soon, I’d love to see them live. That is sad and scary about the flooding, but as you said, not altogether unexpected. After decades of seeing those sorts of images on the news, one place I will never, ever build is on a flood plain! Since the government ends up paying for big chunks of the damage from catastrophic flooding nationwide on a somewhat regular basis, it seems to me the wisest thing to do would be to pass a bill prohibiting building on flood plains. Problem solved. But I know, as available land shrinks daily, that’s not likely to happen.

Jen I hope you had fun at Chuck E. Cheese! I love going there because they have Centipede, LOL. My favorite all-time arcade game, aside from Ms. Pac-Man. I bet your nephew was thrilled! I need to surprise the son with a trip soon. He has a bunch of tickets saved up to get a prize and wants to add to his total before he cashes them in.

I did see that person in the HP costume asking about the pic, thanks! I figured the same thing. If she’s okay, I definitely am. Yay! One thing off the to-do list, LOL.

The Ball is going to be MOBBED, I predict! LOL It’s getting so exciting, the closer it gets, and the more people talk about possibly joining us there… eh-hemm, MM and Felipe! I am keeping my fingers crossed to get on here one day soon and see that you’ve both bought tickets. Then we’ll have to start working on the next round of people we can recruit and make it into one big Castle party!

Speaking of Castle residents, I had lunch with Rhi today for the first time in forever it seems like. We had a lot of fun and did a lot of SQUEEEEING, LOL. We’re going to get together again soon so we can talk more about the trip and everything, and we need to get us attendees together on FB to chat about details as soon as Leaky puts out the schedule. I can’t wait!

Asti I’m so glad the DS is okay! Scary, scary, scary.

Graymayne I have the same reaction to books that are not in decent condition. I do buy them that way sometimes, if they’re out of print or something, but I never do enjoy that feeling.

Hope you all have a great night!

:)

GRAYMAYNE,

Best Wishes on the doctor’s appointment. All the elder adults in my family are on Simvastatin. It seems to be a common medication.

Just got home a little while ago. We had a great time at Chuck E Cheese. It’s been remodeled since I was there last and was much nicer – a lot more spacious and quite a few new games. On my way home from babysitting, I stopped at my dad’s pool hall for their karaoke night. They just recently got their full liquor license and are trying to find new ways to get people in because it’s been really quiet. So, they started doing a karaoke night a few weeks ago. This was my first time stopping in, though I definitely didn’t sing, lol. I got home to find the power out. It’s quite eerie to unexpectedly walk into a dark apartment. I was going to spend some time online, then realized that no power means to Internet. :( So I’m here on my phone. I’ll have to get off shortly though so I don’t drain the whole battery; I’m now going to have to use this as my alarm tomorrow morning.

LD just broke the bike cord, which had already been jury-rigged because the darn cats chewed through it when they were kittens. I’m mad. I know she didn’t do it on purpose, but since I can’t really walk right now with my feet, the bike is the only thing that really burns calories and the DS isn’t back home to fix it again until tomorrow, IF he can fix it again. Grrrrrrrr…

Jen hope you get power again soon!

I was out all day with my parents yesterday and arrived home just behind my DS and engaged in furious dinner preparation so other than my comments on the state of the river here in Memphis I didn’t check any of the links like the one IRONSOS put up. I’m in bed with my Blackberry, trying to wake up, so I see I have lots of links to check now.

I did pick up my new Birkenstocks yesterday and wore them out of the store. They are not wildly beautiful but I think they will eventually be comfortable. It is not the foot bed that is going to be the issue with me as they seem to hit my feet right. It is all the straps across my feet and around my ankles that I’m not accustomed to that will be the problem. I have very boney, craggy feet with lots of angles and very little padding. So everywhere the strap edges touch I am going to be in danger of starting blisters until I build up the skin. I wore them from the shop to the restaurant and home. I took them off after preparing my DS’s dinner and I was ready. Today I’ll wear them on my MIL’s grocery run and come home and take them off. I’m going to try to wear them a couple of hours every day for awhile and spend some time trying to soften the edges of those straps.

I was also going to mention the flooding is almost certain to be worse south of here. The Mississippi Delta is by definition flood plain. That is what delta is, flood plain. There are all sorts of towns south of Memphis built in the Delta. It is farming/cotton growing country. There are already entire communities going under.

LEMON, I would be tempted to agree that no one should be permitted to build in a flood plain. It makes sense until you realize then you might not be able to build in areas that historically are at risk for earthquakes, wildfires, landslides, tornadoes, hurricanes, or tsunamis. Did I miss anything? There are very few places in this country that are safe from all of that. The areas that are safe are not big enough for all of us. We would all end up in specially built cities as apartment dwellers.

I came home last night to discover my DS had replaced my bike seat with a new padded one. When I tried to mount I could barely reach the seat on my tippy toes. There is no way I can ride it until he lowers it. If I tried to ride it and tried to stop I’m afraid I would be impaled on the seat.

Morning all!

Still no power this morning. :( I suppose that means I’m going to lose my refrigerator contents…how long can you go before it spoils? I just went onto the electric company’s website to report the outage. The status has now been updated to say that expected restoration is 9am. I don’t know if that means they’ve found the problem and know how to fix it, or if that’s just when someone will be out to look at it. I probably should have just reported it last night, but it was so late and I was so exhausted when I got home that I just wanted to go to bed. I was afraid that if I reported it, they might call back to ask questions or need me to wait up for them to come in. I suppose I had a somewhat Scarlett attitude of “I’ll deal with it tomorrow,” while hoping that the problem would take care of itself. No such luck. I have no idea what the problem could be because it looks like everyone around us has power.

JEN, when the power comes back up as long as things are still cool to the touch you should be fine. You can safely take leftovers home from restaurants with no refrigeration at all as long as you get it back within the refrigerator within two hours. A refrigerator will hold its own cold for several hours so as long as items feel cool and not room temperature they should be okay.

JEN, if you have cheeses don’t throw them out. Cheeses can be placed out on cheese boards at parties for hours and hours at room temperature. Don’t throw away your cheeses.

Thanks, LH! I was annoyed because I had just gone food shopping Tuesday! Which reminds me…while there I looked for those carts with the kiddie cars and couldn’t find any. I don’t know if I just missed it or if they’ve all switched, but the only special carts for kids (aside from the ones with infant seats attached) actually had two little plastic seats in front of the full cart – so the kids sitting there can hold the cart handle and feel like they’re navigating. The adult then pushes the cart from a handle on the plastic seats. I’ve tried to find a picture, and this link shows Target carts that are similar: http://asktheebayqueen.com/index.php/2010/10/21/strange-thing-to-celebrate-target-carts/ The ones at my grocery store are not quite that big though; the kids seats are much closer to the cart itself – I don’t think you could have another kid sitting in the cart’s actual kid’s seat or its legs would be right in the lap of the kids sitting it the extra seats. But with it being tight like that, it definitely takes up much less room than the big cars and seems to be easier to maneuver.

Anyway, the electric company called…apparently the club’s power was turned off for non-payment. He’s not sure why they touched mine or my dad’s since they’re three separate accounts. But, he needs to be able to get into the club to get to the meters. I have no access to that. I’ll have to wait another hour or so until it’s late enough to call my grandfather to either go over with his key or get ahold of the club owner to get there. :(

Good Morning

Jen Lady Hawke is right. If things still feel cool when the power comes back on, they are usually OK. I try not to open the fridge when the power is off to hold in the cool. Of course if it’s off more than 24 hours, some things will have to be thrown away. Frozen stuff will usually last longer.

We finally made it to the stores yesterday after Jen got home. I bought the dogs new choker collars and harness plus new leashes. I was not going to make the trip back home without them. My dogs harness were pack away so I didn’t have them for the trip here. Harley’s collar came off at a rest stop. Luckily he is not a runner so I was able to get it back on him but I’m not taking a chance going back.

I hope things work out for Felipe and MM to make it to Leaky Con.

COOLG is right JEN, Right now your freezer stuff should be no problem at all as long as you don’t open the door. Even if you have as long as there are any ice crystals left in the frozen food at all you can refreeze them. I’ve even heard as long as they are still cold you can refreeze them.

Thanks, guys. Of course, part of my problem is that I likely won’t be home when the power does come back on, but I guess I’ll just have to use judgement. If something doesn’t smell right, I’ll toss it. I suppose it’s good that we just entered a cold spell after several days of warmer weather. It was only 60 degrees in the apartment when I woke up; I didn’t want to get out of my nice warm bed!

Enjoy the rest of your visit at your daughter’s, CoolG!

Lemon I KNOW!!! I want the invisibility cloak too!!!! But $430!?!?! Geez…

LMAO Won! That hat is hideous, but I think it’s probably one of the most memorable things from the Royal Wedding because everyone was talking about it.

LH It’s so sad what’s going on in your area with the flooding… I am glad your family is fine :)

Hopefully power will be restored by now Jen!

I hope so too Cool G! I get paid Monday, so we’ll see how I manage my money to start to pay for LeakyCon.

Lovely…the guy downstairs can’t meet the electric company until 5, so the power won’t be back on until then. Maybe my consolation in this will be that if he still hasn’t paid and they won’t turn his back on, maybe the club will be closed this weekend. :)

In happier news, it looks like my dad’s finally going to be buying a house. It’s one he had looked at two years ago though it was out of his price range. When the price came down about 6 months ago, he put in an offer but they refused and wouldn’t give a counter-offer. It was still on the market a couple of weeks ago, so he tried again will a slightly higher offer than his original, and this time they countered. He countered their counter (LOL!) and they refused. But the real estate agent called my dad yesterday to say they had finally decided to go ahead and accept his last offer.

It’s a 4-bedroom house with a 2-bedroom add-on, so my sister and nephew will rent the add-on from him. It’s in the town I grew up in (actually, only a few blocks away from our old house), so my nephew will be able to start kindergarten this Sept. at the elementary school my sisters and I all went to, which is awesome. The town’s known for having a really good school system, and my sister had been really unhappy at the thought of sending him to school in the city we’re in right now. My dad has said I can come stay with him until I’m settled in a job and can look for my own house, but I’m not sure I’m ready to give up the independence of my own apartment, despite the issues I have with being in the city and living over the club. We’ll see, though. Either way, it’s pretty exciting that he’ll be back in a real house with a nice big yard. We can hold cookouts and family gatherings there now, instead of always having my married sister have to host everything. I can have a big family dinner with my brisket! :D

Jen Hurrah for yards and brsket! If he has 4 bedrooms in the main house, can you get two of them? One as your sitting room/library and the other to actually sleep in. Then you could retreat to your space for alone tme. That might not be too different than living right next door to him, as you are now. Congratulations to your father, whatever you decide. ;)

Afternoon doldrums lurk! ;)

Thanks, Deanie! I’m not sure that there’d be an extra bedroom for me to snatch. I know he’s planning to turn one into a kids’ “guest” bedroom in hopes that my nephews (and maybe a niece in Sept!) will want to stay over sometimes. (Of course, with my other nephew right next door, they might decide they’s rather be over there, LOL.) And I think he was planning to use another bedroom for his own office space, especially since he’ll no longer be within walking distance of the business, so won’t be able to just pop over when he needs to do paperwork. I’m sure if I asked, he’d be willing to give it up to me, but I’d feel bad. Another factor, however, will be whether my third sister is going to wind up there too. She’ll be starting nursing school in the fall and isn’t quite sure yet if she’s going to be able to afford to stay in her current apartment once she’s not at her full-time job. Lots to consider, but it’s exciting! :D

Good evening!

I am looking forward to three days off, woohoo!

Jen that is good news about the house. I’m pleased for you all. It sounds like the all the family are looking forward to it. Sorry that you’ll lose your food though……… and on that note, if the stuff in the freezer is even partially defrosted, I would NOT re freeze it. Lol, you’ll just have to have a VERY big dinner tonight!

Won, I love that Beatrice is selling her hat for charity! It proves she has a sense of humour, at any rate!

Lady Hawke, lol about the bike! Hopefully it’ll be comfy once the saddle is lowered. And I’m glad you seem to be over the worst of the floods. I hope life, and water levels, get back to normal for everyone affected very soon.

Felipe, I really hope you can get to LeakyCon! I love thinking of so many Leaky Peeps meeting and being together. I’m not jealous at allllllllllll!!!!!! Good luck with finding the money.

CoolG, I’m glad you had a good time. Do you know whether much progress has been made on your apartment while you’ve been away?

Lemon, don’t overdo the exercise if your body is complaining. Could you do a little at a time, several times a day? That would put less stress on your feet and ankles. I hope the pain goes soon.
