Evening all!

Happy Mother’s Day! I just got home from dinner with my grandparents, aunts, an uncle, and some cousins. Although we had a reservation, the restaurant was quite backed up and service was slow. The reservation was for 7 pm and we didn’t finally get our food until 8:30! I suppose it didn’t help that there were 10 of us.

I was very excited to return home to the news that the tickets for the LeakyCon event in the park are on sale for RockStar registrants (Lemon did you see that? LH they’ll be available for you next week! And I saw on FB that Rhi has already bought hers). It’s especially exciting to learn that the event includes UNLIMITED Butterbeer (frozen and regular) and Pumpkin Juice! SQUEE!

Lemon, your mention of hating 3D reminds me that I meant to ask: did you see that Hank Green has invented glasses that allow you to watch a 3D movie in 2D? Here’s the website: They sound like they’d be perfect for you!

Now that we’ve made it to page 3 with very few non-regular posters, I suppose it’s probably fine to move over to this poll completely. I’ll continue to check the other one too for a few more days though. :)

The Park Event is on sale for Rock Star Pass holders and for everyone else in one week!

We can get into the park after 2 PM and the park will be cleared of muggles by 10 PM and we will have it alone until 1:30 AM.

They are also feeding us traditional British foods like shepherd’s pie and bangers and coddle. I remember treacle fudge, bread pudding, pumpkin tarts, strawberry and peanut butter ice cream. Also soda bread and butter.

There will be all the frozen or hot butterbeer, pumpkin juice, apple cider, and pear cider we can hold.

Hi, everyone! Jen sent me an email that they’d opened up for the RockStars to buy their Leaky night at the park tickets, so I got mine, and I also got all five of our two-day, two-park pass tickets, since we’re only going to do two additional days at the Universal parks. The rest of our trip will be at WDW. BUT… because the rest of my family are not RockStars, I can’t buy their tickets yet and I’m freaking out, as are they. Leaky is only selling 2000 of these special passes, but nearly 3000 people are registered for the conference. The 1000 LeakyCon attendees who are unable to get tickets to this event are going to be PEEVED, I would think, and if I somehow miss out on getting all four tickets for the rest of my family, they are going to go ballistic. I wrote a note to Melissa about it on the site to see if she has any suggestions about that, there really should be a way to make sure all family members who are registered get to go together and not risk getting split up that way. We’re going to have all three computers up and running at the same time so we can click “buy” on three at once, then just have to re-log in for the last one as fast as possible, but I wish they hadn’t handled it this way. Now I’m going to be freaking out all week waiting for the rest to go on sale. GAH!!! I want all this stuff handled now, I can’t take much more of trying to get everything all planned out! After we get these purchased, then we will have to go through this all over again to get all five tickets to the movie premiere.

They should have set it up so that families were all registered under one heading/account and could purchase everything together. It would still keep people from buying “extras” (to scalp to other people or whatever), but would eliminate this need for each individual person to have to log in to do everything in their own account, when one family member (me!) is the one paying for everything and doing it all anyway.

Luckily, after the movie tix all that’s left is the keynotes and I doubt most of my family will be too worried about those. Unless the keynotes turn out to be people from the movies, then that would be another story.

I’m very excited about the event, though, and all the free food and butterbeer (!!!!) will be great. I just need to get the stress of getting the tickets handled over with and then I can go back to only being excited, instead of excited AND stressed.

LOL Ironsos! My kids and DS tried the pumpkin juice I brought back with me last year and they said it wasn’t too bad. Notice they did not say it was GOOD. ;) I didn’t try it. I’m a chicken and I’m not fond of pumpkin to begin with, but I will load up on the butterbeer!

Have a good night, everyone.

Morning all! We have sunshine and a clear blue sky after three days of squally showers.

Don’t get too excited by “traditional British food” because I had to look up “coddle” on the web only to find that it is an Irish dish, as is soda bread. All the foods mentioned by Jo in her books were completely familiar to me. I had to check with my DS because he is the icecream freak in the family, and he shook his head over the idea of peanut butter in an icecream recipe in the UK. To judge by the supermarket shelves peanut butter as a commodity is a minority choice, just like the maple syrup we were discussing recently.

Ironsos I share your fears over pumpkin juice:)

Must catch up on housework.

GRAYMAYNE, peanut butter is common enough as an ingredient in ice cream here but usually by itself or in combination with chocolate, not strawberry.

I will be setting my alarm so I can buy my park tickets. That is a good idea about bringing up two computers at once and clicking at the same time. That will prevent me from having to log in a second time.

I’m a bit unsure about pumpkin juice myself. My cousin who owns the health food store where I met my DS had a “juicer” back when juicers were all but unknown to most people, probably about 40 years ago. I can remember they juiced some vegetables that one would not generally expect to drink, one of them being carrots. I can remember although I like carrots I was not impressed with trying to drink them. I like pumpkin but that is one of the things Jo came up with culinarily that did not appeal to me.

Morning all!

Lemon, I have a feeling they’d be able to squeeze the rest of your family in if by some chance they were to sell out before they get tickets. I’m thinking it’s probably unlikely that they’ll sell that quickly though; I’d imagine that as long as you get them within the first day, you’d probably be okay. I’ve already seen a couple of comments from people complaining about the price, so it seems like not everyone will want to go anyway.

At one of my HP-MA potluck dinners, the hosts made pumpkin juice. They said it tasted pretty close to the park one, so I took a little bit to try. It actually tasted a bit like apple juice (which is also in it), but there was also some pulp that I knew was pumpkin which made it less appealing to me. It tasted okay, but just knowing it was pumpkin sort of turned me off from it. That’s why I’m so excited that it’s free, though; it’ll be a good way to try the “real” thing without wasting money if I don’t drink too much of it. I wonder if they’ll have it in the cool bottles (and the collectible mugs for Butterbeer) or if it’ll just be in plastic cups. I really want a bottle and mug to take home, so I may end up spending money on them anyway if that’s not how they do it.

I have the same attitude about the food – being a picky eater, I wouldn’t have been willing to spend money to try some of these items, but knowing that it’s free, I think I’ll try to be adventurous and at least try a bite of everything. :) I don’t think I’ve ever had peanut butter in ice cream. I’ve had a peanut butter sauce topping, but wasn’t crazy about it; it didn’t taste like real peanut butter to me. And I’ve had candy, like a Reese’s peanut butter cup, as a topping, which wasn’t bad. But never actual peanut butter as part of the ice cream. I’m looking forward to trying that one; it’s one of the things I’ve heard raved about.

I didn’t buy a regular park ticket yet. I’m not sure if I’ll end up back in the park outside of the event; I guess it’ll depend on whether we’re having a meet-up with people not going to the conference, like Felipe.

How crazy that you mention that Jen (about people like me not attending the conference), because as of a few minutes ago when I checked my e-mail and saw the LeakyCon reminder about pictures, use your real name on your registration, blah, blah, blah… I got really anxious and now it’s eating at me… Why am I missing this chance to go to an HP Con when it’s right outside my door, when my Leaky friends of years are coming, when the last movie is coming out right then and I could go see it with you guys, and so many other reasons now weighing down on me. I wish I hadn’t been such a splinching indecisive procrastinator…

I will be totally honest that my love for HP remains strong, but my interest in the fandom has dwindled. But I think I will regret not going, at least for the experience and to meet you guys. Especially with the Con being so near to where I live. Also, we don’t know what your schedules will be like, and what if we can’t arrange a meet-up? I really wanna meet up and enjoy the park with true fans like yourselves! So I think it would be better if I just organize myself, find the way, and get my ass over there for the whole thing. It just sucks that there are no more on-site hotel rooms available… sigh but ok, let’s see what I can come up with… I’ll get back to you guys about this later today.

Hi, again, everyone!

Oh, Felipe I hope you do!!!!! I was worried about being able to meet up if you weren’t part of the Con, just because I know how very scheduled we were last time and so many things are only for registrants. I do think you’d wind up kicking yourself if you didn’t go. I know it’s a lot of money, but it really is a once-in-a-lifetime event (or twice for those of us who went before, LOL), especially with this one being AT the park, with the final movie, etc., etc. Aside from those of us from the poll going, you’ll also meet all sorts of other fans and strike up friendships and just have a fantabulous time. We were so depressed to leave the one in 2009, I think it took all three of us months to really recover from it. We just wanted to go back! It was such a special experience. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that you will come back and say you are all registered!

Jen you know my pickiness with food rivals yours, so you also know I am in complete agreement with you on the food, LOL. I will try to be brave and adventurous and try a little of everything since it’s free, but otherwise I know I would be staying far from most of it. The free butterbeer is the COOLEST thing though, that stuff is amazing! I didn’t try the frozen version last time because my friend and I didn’t want to stand in the long lines again, but the regular one was fabulous and everyone seems to think the frozen one is even better, so I’m eager for that one. I could probably suck down my weight in butterbeer given the chance, actually, and I know LD is the same way. :) It sounds like the pumpkin juice you tried is probably very close to the park one, since that one mostly tastes like apple juice with a little extra kick of something in it, as well. Like you, though, I am not a fan of the texture thing, or pumpkin to begin with. I don’t really even enjoy pumpkin pie that much. ( I know, un-American, LOL, but I just don’t.)

I do think they will be serving all the drinks in disposable cups, though. Those mugs sell for something like $9, I think, so I can’t see them giving those away for free. I will definitely be buying a set, too, though, I was so disappointed that they were already out of a TWO YEAR (they thought) SUPPLY when I was there less than a full month after the official opening of the park. It seems to me that they seriously underestimated the number and intensity of this fandom.

The strawberry and peanut butter ice cream always sounded like the oddest combination Jo could possibly have come up with, LOL, but I do love chocolate and peanut butter ice cream. I’ll certainly give it a shot!

LH I’ll also be up making sure to get my tix on the stroke of the moment they become available. I am very concerned that Leaky is opening themselves up to a lot of complaints by handling it this way. If I was one of the 1000 LeakyCon registrants who will be unable to get a ticket to the park event, I would be insanely upset. I’m going to hope that at least a majority of the people who don’t get tickets actually didn’t want one to begin with, otherwise I think there is going to be a lot of ill-feelings, and that would be terrible for the conference. I just can’t imagine anyone not wanting to go, even if they don’t like theme parks or rides, because that area is about so much more than that, and the opportunity to view it all with seriously reduced numbers and with free food and drinks is very appealing. Even Rhiannon doesn’t much care for theme parks or rides, but she’s outrageously excited about that event, which is exactly how I think most people who are big enough fans to come to the conference are going to feel.

We did also get our two-day, two-park tickets yesterday since I know we’re going in on two more days while there. I’m glad that’s one more thing I can cross of my to-do list as being handled! I can’t wait to cross off a few more!

We’ve had a showery day with a few sunny periods today but tonight we had a very noisy thunderstorm which stayed overhead for about twenty minutes. It was the best storm we have had for ages.

I have been watching two programmes on TV with the theme of Atlantis. The current thinking seems to be that Plato’s morality tale about Atlantis appears to be based on the volcanic eruption on Thera (now called Santorini), which happened a thousand years before his time. There has been much field research on this topic and recent underwater exploration of the sea bed has caused the intensity of this event to be sharply upgraded and it has been realised that it would have caused huge tsunami events, which would explain the rapid demise of the Minoan civilisation on Crete. No bodies or remains have been found on Santorini. Fascinating topic.

I’ve been doing some research on the LeakyCon page and even saw your comments about the Open at the Close event, Lemon! I’m still trying to get more info, but this is what I got so far:

Only those with a full registration can attend the special events, so I can’t get a couple of day passes to save money. Then, even getting the full registration, I won’t be able to do the closing feast since those registering after March 1 don’t get it… capacity issues or something… :-(

Right now I’m potentially looking at getting the full registration ($200), the Open at the Close event ($120), and DH: 2 screening ($?). I would not do all days of the Con, though, or at least I would not be staying at the hotel for the whole Con. I just can’t afford so many nights ($159+tax each!) at the hotel. I’d do 3 days (2 hotel nights) at the most. So I’d probably do July 13, 14 and 15. That would be a good fit because OatC happens on the 13, and the movie screening should be the night of the 14th.

I wish I could see what the actual programming will be, and when each thing is happening. That way I could plan better and be more comfortable… If I only plan to be at the Con on the 13, 14 and 15, but I find something super interesting on the morning of the 16, I might get another night at the hotel, but then if, say, there’s an interesting event happening in the afternoon of the 16, I could just go home the night of the 15 and then drive back the 16.

Sigh Decisions, decisions… Money, money… Sigh

Hi, Felipe! I know, it is really hard to make plans until Leaky gets their full schedule up, and I know it’s a TON of money. There’s five of us, LOL, so I am pulling my hair out!

However, I think you would get the Leaving Festivities now, there was a post a while ago that they had pulled some magic and everyone would now get that as part of their registration. Also, keep in mind that if they repeat history, the movie release may actually be midnight, Wednesday the 13th (line up on Tuesday the 12th.) I think StarKid is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, but I’m not sure. There will be cool stuff on each day, though, so it is really hard to choose.

There are people looking for roommates on the LeakyCon Facebook page, if you’re game for that, to help save money. Just an idea!

Keep us posted, I hope it works out for you!

Good news on my end – our trip is finally fully booked! We had to wait FOREVER due to issues with the DS’s work, but now today it is all done. We ended up having to do the WDW stuff the week after Leaky, but we got our first choice of hotel, most of our first restaurant choices, and all the shows we wanted to see, so I am very happy.

That helped cross off a bunch of things on our list, but there is STILL so much left to do! As the days are dwindling down, I feel in an almost constant state of panic for getting it all done in time, LOL. I know we will, but I wish I could have crossed off even more today.

Now I have to go get that exercise in so I’m physically ready! I’ve been online or on the phone all day today and have gotten nothing else done. Not good!

See everyone later!

Felipe, I echo everything Lemon said; it’ll be so awesome if you can come because it’s going to be an amazing conference! A couple of things that might help you: about two weeks ago they announced that they had done some “layout magic” and that there were now a couple hundred additional spots available for the Leaving Feast. I haven’t seen another update after that to say they had sold out again, so I’m fairly sure that if you get a full registration right now, you will get to attend the feast. There’s also a chance that you could still purchase special event tickets with a day pass; if they don’t sell out to full registrants, they’ve said they’ll open special event tickets to day pass holders. And I believe (though I’m not 100% positive) that they said that if that happens, you could buy a ticket for the event regardless of which day your day pass is for. That may have just been for the movie though, so don’t quote me on it.

I’ve been keeping up with the lounge postings ( to stay on top of info (though I’ve got to actually start posting again; I haven’t done it in a while) and the LeakyCon Formspring is pretty good too: On the LeakyCon2011 FB page, you can also get a lot of info, especially if you read the comments to people’s posts. It would have been on one of those three places (or the actual LC site) that I saw the stuff about day passes and special events.

For the hotel, I don’t know how comfortable you are around people you don’t know, but a lot of people are finding roommates over in the lounge. You might want to check out the roommate thread to see if there’s anyone you think you’d hit it off with. I’m personally too nervous to do something like that, but I know a couple of people who swear by it; they say it’s an awesome way to make new friends. (One girl in my HP-MA group actually met her boyfriend that way, and they’ve been together for a couple of years now; he just moved out here to be with her last year.) I suppose it’s sort of like being plopped together with a college roommate you’ve never met, except that with this you already know you have a love of HP in common. :)

Good luck! I really hope you’ll be able to work it out to come! :)

LOL, I see Lemon beat me to it on some of the answers. :) So what days will you be at the Royal Pacific, Lemon? I’m still waffling over whether to switch from Mon-Mon to Tues-Tues. If no one’s going to be around on that Tues at the tail end, it may not be worth doing that, even to save $20. At least if I arrive early and no one’s around, there’s a possibility I could offer to help with LC prep stuff since I’ve signed up to volunteer.

Evening, everyone!

We went out for my Mother’s Day dinner tonight since yesterday didn’t work. red Lobster, yummy. :) Now I’m in between the bike and the treadmill and just checking in.

Jen we will be at the Royal Pacific from Tuesday to Monday, then moving over to WDW. Our flight doesn’t get in until about 6:30, so by the time we get our luggage, the car, get over to the hotel, check in, etc., it will probably be at least 8 PM if not a bit later on Tuesday night. If that’s the movie night, I imagine we’ll have to go line up almost immediately (or find you guys if you’re already in line, LOL. Not sure how they’re going to work that with conference goers, but I know here, we line up by 5 PM at the LATEST to get decent seats), but if it isn’t we can all hang out and get ready for fun! I can’t wait!

Ironsos I’m always in favor of taking things out and banging them on the table, LOL. That’s my favorite maintenance technique. ;)

MM it would be SO AMAZING if you could be there, too! I hope, hope, hope you go!!!!! As far as what days to do the day passes for.. gosh, that’s a tough one to answer, especially now when the full programming isn’t set yet. There are going to be great things going on each day, so it will depend on what you want to see, your schedule, etc. There’s a tentative schedule listed on the LeakyCon site somewhere, I can’t remember exactly where. Jen may know. If you dig around you ‘ll probably find it. Of course, none of that is set in stone, so if you make your plans based on it and it changes that wouldn’t be good. But it would be so great to see you there! Whichever days you choose are sure to be amazing and we’ll all be together so it’ll be fun no matter what. I will keep my fingers crossed!!!

I am still in the process of changing the son’s pic for his badge. I took a new photo when he got home today and tried to upload it for half an hour but the site was down, then when it came back up it said the file was too big, so now I need to DS to reduce the megabytes, I don’t know how to do that. I also sent a message to them about my photo, since it’s technically in costume. It’s my author pic. I don’t think there’s any question that it’s me, but I wanted confirmation from Melissa. Well, someone else answered and said it was “probably best” to upload a new one so there’s no confusion, but clearly had not actually looked at the pic, which is what I was hoping Melissa would go in and do. I LIKE that photo and I never like photos of myself. I don’t want to upload another one, I don’t have another one, so I’d have to get another one which would involve more than just snapping one like I could for the kids. They always look gorgeous. Mine requires strategy to just be okay. I wouldn’t have even worried about it if they’d just said nothing could obscure the face so it’s clear we’re who we are, because it is clear. But they made the point about no costumes, and technically I am in costume. Now I don’t know what to do. I guess get a new one, but that is going to be a big production and not something I have time or the inclination for now. Grrrr…

Off to work out some more. sigh Have a good night, everyone.

I was able to find a reasonably priced compaq laptop at best buy for $275. with tax and shipping it came
to $308. not to bad of a hit for me. It has a 15.6" screen, 2G of ram and 250G hard drive. Also comes
with windows 7 home premium. Not as many bells and whistles as my present one but I never really
used the web cam and gaming softwear anyway.
