The feathers appear to have made it through the first washing. I went to the grocery after cleaning up from painting and there was an older lady in the grocery with feathers in her short hair. GINNY WEASLEY had blue feathers put in today.

Did anyone else notice that a new poll(about what JKR would right next) showed up for a short
time this afternoon. It had 2 votes and no comments when it dissapeared.

Are we all in the mad dash trying for the IMAX tickets? Or are we just going for the regular ones? I just want to know what to do, what to try for when the time comes.

ASTI, I put my hair in a pony tail while painting. You couldn’t see the feathers at all. One of the young women in the shop yesterday said she had them but her hair was braided so they couldn’t be seen. So, you can “disappear” them. I washed my hair after painting today. It was the first wash following a new perm on Tuesday and the feather extensions yesterday. I used my regular shampoo and spray on styling gel and combed it out as always. I was a bit careful combing out the area with the bead that hold the feathers in place. You wouldn’t want to pull it out. I can use my wide spaced pick without difficulty but a smaller spaced brush needs careful use. It is larger than can be combed through with a tight comb or brush but essentially I treated my hair as I always do. When the feathers were wet they were very limp and soft but as soon as they dried they revitalized and look as they did when they were put in my hair.

The older lady with short hair and feathers I saw in the grocery today has had hers a week and she says they bounce back from washing fine. So did the mother of the little girl we saw yesterday. The child has been swimming. My daughter’s friend and her sister have them and they have a pool. They have been swimming as well.

That is a terrible thing about your FIL. I must say I was absolutely thrilled when my DS went part way up the ladder and came back down. I, too, was recruited to hold it steady and it did not seem at all steady to me. It is going to be expensive to pay someone to paint that small area but it is one of the more complicated bits on the house in addition to being so high in the air. He realized very quickly it wasn’t worth the risk and the time it would take him to complete the job competently. It was intimidating for someone not accustomed to that sort of work at that sort of height.

The Chelsea Flower Show sounds lovely, if a bit wet. I’m glad you were able to use it to your advantage.

My daughter has a friend spending the night. We were meant to have tried to play THE HUNGER GAMES game but it is now 9 PM and my DS and I are exhausted. The instructions have still not been deciphered. I think I must go to bed. I’m sure my legs are going to seize up as soon as I lie down.

IRONSOS, unfortunately did not see much of anything today except the overhang and gutters of my house. I think I have had a bit too much sun as well.

I wonder why they too the new poll away. That would have been a recent record, two new polls in about two or three weeks.

LH I loved your little tidbit about the sorting hat lol :D It IS our choices that define us and our house :-)

Lemon I’ll bug MM some more if I get to chat with her again ;-) I caught her on Yahoo messenger. She said that she was trying to get her sisters to go, I think. But I’ll mention her son and DIL too next time. I’m trying to recruit as many castle dwellers as possible to come meet up :-P
I never had a problem at the Orlando airport, but I really haven’t travelled much lately. I went to Argentina in late 2009 and then actually went through security with my Granny last year, but I was just taking her on a wheelchair to the plane, so we just bi-passed the normal lines :-P
PS: I love your custom tag choices :-D I hope you get your first choice!

Graymayne I loved the pic of the wands hand made by your DS! They’re awesome! :-D I’m jealous! LOL!

Jen I’d love to go to Discovery Cove too and the price and time are also what has kept me waiting, although as a Florida resident I think I can get them a bit cheaper, but still, at a hefty price and I just keep putting it off. Hey, aren’t plane ticket prices directly related to gas prices? I think so… I do recommend, though, buying them as much in advance as possible. I think that the closest you get to the travel date, the more they go up in price. Hope you find some good deals! Btw, are you coming alone to LC?

Deanie sorry about the stress of changes at work. I hope the new position does have some positive aspects :-)
I’m excited about the Hobbit movie, but I’ve yet to read the LotR books. I loved the movies, but never made an effort to read the books, and I actually own them. I know, I’m silly… :-P

ironsos I know! I cannot wait for season 4 of True Blood! Have you seen all the little previews?
:D !!! June 26 can’t come soon enough!!! Which reminds me, I need to turn my HBO back on before True Blood starts.

Thanks asti! And I hope too that MM and more of us can make it! I’ll make sure to take lots of pics and maybe some video too. I have a bunch of pictures from around the WWoHP, but none with our castle group peeps in them. Those will be the special ones :-) I already have so many spots in mind for pictures :-P By the Hogwarts Express, by the Three Broomsticks, by Hagrid’s Hut, by the Ford Anglia, by Hogwarts!! … :-D I CAN’T WAIT!!!!
BTW, I loved the videos on the Chelsea Flower Show site! I love nature and also architecture and design, so it was really interesting! It looks like a really cool and also relaxing time visiting the CFS! :-)

LH whatever you guys decide for the movie theatre will be fine with me. I’ll just be happy to go along and watching the movie all together and experiencing it all together. That’s what’s worth it for me. I hope they have a good system for the ticket sales. Maybe they’ll have the option for us to chose IMAX or regular? maybe not? I wish everything wouldn’t be so up in the air…

ironsos I didn’t see that, but I do see it on the poll archives. Weird…

Evening, all! We’re back from pizza and feeling full and lazy. Definitely ate too much. It doesn’t seem to be slowing the boys down any, though, as they are already back at the video games.

Deanie that was quite a way to deal with the jet lag issue! I don’t know that I will have a good block of time like that available, unfortunately, but I will work them in somehow. I do get terrible jetlag going east, probably because my normal schedule is already so late that when I stay up to 3 AM my time it’s already 6 AM east coast time and close to time to be getting up. I’m going to try to alter all of our schedules as much as possible before we leave for LeakyCon, but realistically, I think we’re just going to have a couple of really rough days before we acclimate. We’ll be there just long enough to really get used to it before we have to go home, LOL. I don’t have any trouble when going west, though, so once home we should all be okay.

That’s very odd about the disappearing poll, I wonder what happened there? I seem to remember a poll on that topic in the past, though, I wonder if they were working behind the scenes and maybe things just got shuffled around a bit? Strange.

LH that’s good news on the feathers, I was wondering how they would hold up. I hope the girls are having fun with their slumber party. The boys definitely are here! And I will repeat how glad I am that you’re hiring someone to do that top part of the house. My DS’s father passed away when he was only 14 so I never even got to meet him, unfortunately, but it was a terrible tragedy for all of them. We did finally get to visit his gravesite when we lived in WI, though, as his widow (my DS’s step-mother) was from WI and took him back to be buried there. It was a hard visit, but I think cathartic for the DS.

Depending on how the ticket sales are set up I personally would like to see us try for the IMAX theater if we can. It’s amazing to me what a difference it makes in big production films. I hate paying extra for it, but for BIG movies it has proven worth the extra cost. However, if the ticket sales are wild and wooly, we’d be safer just going for a regular theater. It will all come down to the way the tickets are made available. There may be an issue with Rhi getting hers, too, if they release them Sunday night, because she is camping until Monday. I am dying for information so we can make more definitive plans!

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for MM. I know she would love it so much, it would be a real shame for her to miss it again.

I still need to ride the bike and walk, but I’m so full of pizza right now that I am having trouble locating my motivation. I also really want to watch DH. Not that I will have access to the TV for a bit with the boys playing their games. sigh

Hope everyone has a good night!

Hmm. Well, I decided to run back through between the bike and the treadmill (going to watch HBP tonight, YAY!), and that other poll came up for me this time. There were no comments on it so for a split second I was all excited – had my, “FIRST!!!” all ready to go, LOL, and clicked on the option “I’m JK Rowling and I’ll tell you in the comments”, then the whole page came up blank. Refreshed and it brought me back to this poll. Very strange indeed!

Is anyone else obsessively checking the LeakyCon and LeakyCon Facebook pages many multiple times a day? I know they said the next update would be via email for the movie tickets, but I can’t help it. I check them both, and sometimes the Twitter feed, too, every single time I go through my various emails and sites, often more than once. I’ve been doing this for months and months and months, before registration even opened. And yet, I STILL missed the opening and the initial top 20 RockStar slots because I dared to be out of the house for three hours on the day it happened to finally open. GAAAAHHHHHH!!!! Now I am absolutely determined not to miss anything else like that again. But it has created a compulsion in me that is bordering on psychotic!

Well, you all already knew I was crazy anyway, so I guess it’s no biggie in the grand scheme of things. ;)

Off to watch HBP, or at least part of it – as long as my legs hold out and my eyes stay open. This may be the latest start time for walking I’ve managed yet. This is not the trend I was hoping to set. sigh At least I got my 16 miles in on the bike.

Nighty-night, Leaky.

I’m up and facing another day of painting. Today is meant to creep up into the low 90s, the temperature the website I looked at last week listed as our average high temperature in July. I don’t know where they come up with average highs when I know we go weeks on end much higher than 92 degrees. Last summer I think we literally had one day that was lower than 98 and I think it was 90 that day.

I would like to be painting while it is cool but the girls are expecting to play the game this morning. When they finally decided they were ready my DS and I had already closed the bedroom door and were preparing to become comatose. The last thing my DS said to me last night before we passed out was, “I’m drooling already.” I had to laugh. I realized I was as well.

The backs of my legs and bottom are stiff and sore. The up two or three ladder steps, balance on a narrow rail for ten minutes with hands in the air, down two or three ladder steps, move the ladder, and repeat that went on for almost six hours really took its toll.

LEMON, I don’t have to watch the LeakyCon websites obsessively. You are doing it for me. Please let me know if the emails do show up. I’m afraid somehow I will miss those. So, much of my email is junk or it belongs to Charles that it is easy for me to miss when I am out and about and just glance at it.

I desperately want the movie and the other keynotes to go on sale BEFORE I leave for the mountains on Friday. Once I am in those mountains I will have no internet access while I am in the park and only my Blackberry while in the room or while in town. I will have to wait until we are settled at the hotel to be able to go over to their internet room to make purchases. This is making me very nervous. I had imagined all this would be settled by now.

Why do you think the movie tickets will go on sale on Sunday?

Morning all!

I’m at work, hurrying to finish my Memorial Day updates so I can head out to my nephew’s party. Today is his friend party at the bowling alley and tomorrow is the family cookout. The weather is now looking like it’s supposed to be gorgeous, yay! (Asti, I hope that’s the case for your picnic as well!)

LH, I was wondering how they calculate weather averages too. I was looking on and found the supposed averages for me, and it says 78 for July. I know we spend most of July in the 80s, with many days in the 90s. The page also says that the highest recorded temp was 98 in 1975, when I know we often have at least one heat wave where we hit 100 each summer. So are the averages wrong or are the temps they’re reporting daily on the regular local weather stations wrong…or are they simply talking about two different figures? Would heat indexes play a part in the discrepancy?

Felipe, yes, I’m heading to LeakyCon by myself. :)

I don’t think they’ll do anything with tickets or info this weekend. They probably understand that a lot of people travel for the holiday. Melissa did say they’d be releasing the additional keynote info next week. Since they had also said that they’d be releasing the schedule in the next week or so, I wonder if they’re just going to announce everything – keynotes and detailed schedule – at the same time, instead of spreading it out like they did last time. I’m torn between wanting the info and wanting it spaced to prolong the anticipation! Lemon, I’ve been checking everywhere too, though I haven’t been commenting. I really should start doing that. I’ve seen your comments, and I’ll recognize a lot of names from seeing the people regularly posting on FB & the Lounge, but no one will recognize me, LOL!

Weather averages are usually based on the previous 30 years. Weather being as cyclic as it is
I usually don’t pay much attention. I love it when weather “records” are set and are based on a
foudation of less than 100 years as if weather did not exist in that area before hand.

Just getting rolling here. LP had an early appointment to get her eyebrows waxed, so we did that this morning and I’ve been making lists and trying to get bills paid, etc., around here before I start the day’s exercise. We really need to get to some trip planning things that need to be sharpened up – more detailed lists and schedules, etc., which would be greatly assisted by Leaky posting the darn schedule! sigh

Jen you’re probably right that they won’t post anything over the holiday weekend. Dang it. I really want to get this stuff handled! Monday will be 42 days to go, just six weeks, and it feels like there is still so much left up in the air. It makes me edgy! However, it will end up being a good thing since Rhi is out of town this weekend, but then next weekend LH will be and that could be an issue.

I don’t know why I got it in my head they might finally release the movie tickets this weekend. I guess I was trying to figure out about how far in advance Fandango usually pre-sales midnight release tickets and it seemed like about six weeks, but then someone else said only a month. I’d be happy if we at least got the official schedule sometime over the next couple of days, even if the tickets for the movie and keynotes don’t go on sale just yet. I just want to know what we’re doing! Rhi wanted to set up that FB chat for us on the 4th (when LH will be gone anyway), to talk about schedules and planning, but if we still don’t have those final details I don’t know how much we’ll be able to accomplish.

LH had fun painting. Or try. :) And Jen have a great time at the party! Sounds like fun.

Jen I have started commenting a bit more on the FB page, but I haven’t been to any of the Lounge pages, have you? That’s where I hung out before the last LeakyCon, but I just haven’t gotten over there yet. I don’t know if I will. FB is so much faster and more convenient.

Well, I better get on to the work around here, I’ll check in later. Hope you all have a great day!

When they’ve released things to sign up, has it usually been on weekends? Maybe LH you can trust someone with your LC login and they can purchase it for you? But we don’t even know how they’ll sell it, if they’ll sell IMAX and regular separatelly, and maybe they’ll have a third option of an off site theatre? I hate being clueless… makes me anxious…

If they release anything about LC next week maybe we can manage to have an impromptu chat then. That way LH can be part of it. I would prefer if it was a Yahoo messenger chat, though. Facebook chat can be so unstable sometimes… But either one is fine if it works out, it works out :-)

I finally started watching AVPS yesterday night and stopped at the end of Act 1 because it was 4am… Now I’m almost done with Act 2. Why did I go so long without seeing this? :-P I’m getting more and more pumped for LC!!! :-D

I got that psycho weird mystery poll again. I keep trying to answer it and have it go through (and get my FIRST!!! HA!) but it doesn’t, and then refreshing the page brings up the right one. I don’t get it, but…

Awwww, chocolates in my office! For me? MM you are too sweet! Gobbles chocolate in three big bites… it’s been SO long! Yummy, yummy, yummy, thank you! And cookies, too, wow. We have really missed our Lady in Green. :) Any hope of a LeakyCon experience in your near future, MadameMinerva? We’re all on pins and needles hoping you can make it!

And a ladybug, too, this must be a special day in the castle to have two special ladies visiting at once! Waving to Huff Enjoy your time off this weekend!

Felipe it does seem like most of the announcements and ticket sale-type things have gone up on Sunday nights, although I think registration actually opened on a Monday if I remember correctly. However, after Jen reminded me about this being a holiday weekend, I am betting now that we may get the actual scheduling update this weekend or this week sometime, but probably no more ticket sales until next weekend. That’s not good news for LH, but maybe she and I can work out something like you suggested or I will at least contact her by phone immediately if anything goes up.

I think the chat is a good idea. I know I’m signed up for a Yahoo chat dealie, but I don’t know if I remember how to access it, LOL. And I think it’s through my author email, but I will double check.

I haven’t done any exercise yet. This is not good. The later I go in the day before I get started, the higher the probability that I won’t do it at all. I didn’t want to take any days off this week since last week wasn’t so great, and I already technically didn’t do any cardio on Monday, though I did get in the weight training at least and have been doing extra miles on the bike all week to help make up for it. Normally Saturday is my day off, but I really need to get going.

However, I did manage to go through my (nearly FULL) notebook on notes for the trip, as well as all the little pieces of paper and sticky notes in the accompanying file, and organize and condense them all. They’re almost down to a manageable level, which is the good news. The bad news is there is still a TON to go through/condense/organize and a TON left to do! The original to-do list was front and back and scribbles all over on a big sheet of paper, though. At least the new one is just front and back and is neat and organized. Much better. :) I can’t believe that a year’s worth of planning, reading, note taking and more planning is about to come to an end. Hopefully all this work ahead of time will make for a worry and stress free trip for everyone, which will be the reward for all the time, worry and stress ahead of time, LOL.

I think the DS and I are going to go see Bridesmaids tonight. I’m not sure if I’m really looking forward to it or not. I did not like The Hangover at all and I have a feeling it’s very much in the same vein. But we need a night out and there’s nothing else to see, soooo… I guess I better get moving!
