I found my dress for the ball. It is nothing elaborate at all, just a black halter dress but it actually goes all the way to the floor which is a real accomplishment for a dress on me. It does have 37 geometric squares with rounded edges in a sort of bronze on the center of the chest and up the straps that tie behind the neck. It has a very 1970s look to it, not really my usually style, but when the length was right, the price was right, and it will puddle into a ball about the size of a good size cantaloupe to go in the suitcase I decided it was a go. You can wad it up and it falls out without a wrinkle. So, it will suit my needs for this trip. I would rather it have been blue for the theme or purple, plum, or red from preference but it will do. I am going to need a light foundation garment for it in order to feel a bit happier with myself in it.

I’m glad someone has heard from MM. I go by her Facebook page and check in with her but I never really get any information from her.

WON, did you ever find out what the huge boom was the other day?

LH I was wondering about the care of those feathers. I’ll be interested to hear how it goes in practice once you guys wash them, I’d be nervous! But I guess they have field tested them in the past, LOL.

Felipe I was under the completely wrong assumption &/or misinformation about the Citywalk theater, then, I swear I’d heard somewhere that ALL their screens were IMAX screens. So now we have to worry about which theater with which tickets again. Blast it!

I do have a feeling we’ll be paying the full regular price, not a special one, because the theater would expect to sell out that movie regardless. Us being there is not going to give them any extra revenue or behinds in seats, and in fact may cause them more headaches than usual. I’m sure the locals who would normally expect to go there for their midnight release will be quite peeved to discover we’ve bought out the theater ahead of time, before they even had a chance to buy tickets.

LH unfortunately it IS in 3D, but as Jen mentioned above, if the 3D itself is what bothers you, you might want to check out those 2D glasses that remove the 3Dness from the movies. I hate 3D, too, generally, but it isn’t the 3Dness of it, it’s the glasses themselves, and the fact that usually I don’t think it adds anything to the movie to make it worth the discomfort of those glasses.

Thanks for letting us know about MM, Felipe, I was getting worried about her. Did she say if she’s made a decision about LeakyCon? I would so love for her to be there, even just for one day. Fingers crossed And if CoolG could make it too, can you just imagine? I would so love for her to have everything sorted out to come with us, too. I hope, I hope, I hope!

LH congrats on finding the dress! I know you’ll be stunning in it, and the fact that everything else fell in place for it, too, just makes it perfect. One more thing off the list! I’m looking for magic foundation garments that will turn the body I have into the body of Selma Hayak. It’s been a long, tough search so far, but I’m not giving up yet. ;)

I was wondering why LittleHawke needs an ID card. Is it just that you want her to have one for the trip, or does she need it for school or something? I should look at my kids’ shot records and see if they need anything or not. I ‘m pretty sure they’re all current, but just in case, that’s a very good idea to get them out of the way ahead of time.

When I purchased the airline tickets it said each passenger must present a photo I’d at check in. So, I’m getting a photo I’d. We have never flown with her before. Since the website said to have them I mean to have one for her.

I don’t like the 3D glasses because they always sit wrong on my nose and start to hurt. They don’t improve the movie enough to put up with it. I end up with my finger holding the glasses off the bridge of my nose. If the movie is not good enough to watch I just give up, take them off, close my eyes, and forget it.

I remember the term I was looking for. My dress is 1970s Mod, not my usual style. I can close my eyes and see Jane Fonda in it which sort of scares me, but it serves the purpose. It does the job.

Some stupid auto correct changed ID to I’d and I didn’t notice.

I also need to figure out an evening shoe that will not kill my feet. I suppose I could find some flat evening wear thongs with some 1970s Mod design on them.

Glad to hear you got your dress for the ball LH! :-) I still have to figure out what exactly I’ll wear. I was thinking something with a Hufflepuff tie, but I don’t know if I should go dressy, or more casual, or what :-S

Yeah Lemon, there is only one true IMAX screen, but all the other screens are nice big screens, and all the theatres in the Cineplex are great with comfy seats and awesome surround sound. I double checked on

“Take your pick of today’s biggest movies at AMC Universal Cineplex 20 with IMAX®! The best of Hollywood is showing Universal CityWalk® on twenty screens, including an immersive IMAX* Experience theater. Each theater features all-stadium seating with high backed rocking chairs, and state-of-the-art projection and sound systems. In addition, the theater’s concession stands serve hot foods like pizza and fries, plus a full liquor bar featuring beer and wine, making THIS Orlando’s premier movie showplace.

*Additional fees apply for IMAX, IMAX 3-D and 3-D movies."

I still hope we get a LeakyCon discount anyways, like anywhere where you buy stuff in bulk. It’d upset me a bit to also pay full price because I can get a discount with my annual pass if I was buying them on my own, but I guess as long as I get a ticket, I’m good. I’m curious about how it will be handled and if we’ll be given a ticket with an assigned theatre or what. I want to be together with you guys, preferably! Also, I wonder if we can buy several at once, and for non-registrants, because I’d love to have my family who are not attending the Con also come to the screening with me if they’d like to. I could always make the sacrifice ;-) lol! and go see it again with my family, or again with you guys if we decide to go again as a group.

MM wants to come but work has her tied up. She might be able to come on the weekend because by then she’ll have Fridays off and a weekend is the only time she’d be able. She wants to know what would be the best day for her to attend, but the Leaky peeps won’t release the darn schedule so we don’t know for sure… Also she’s still trying to see who she can come with. I hope someone tags along with her so she can come!! PLEASE COME MM!!! :-D

Wow, Felipe you do have awesome magical powers to summon PB that way! ;) Good to see you, long-lost PB.

LH the Mod sandals sound perfect if you can find them. Do you have a Famous Footwear near you? I know they have a lot of sandals right now that might suit. Which reminds me – we DO have those stores you were talking about before for girls, was it Justice? We even have one right in our very own local mall and I have NEVER noticed it before, LOL. I guess because my girls are long out of that size range, I just turned a blind eye to it, like Muggles who can’t see The Leaky Cauldron right smack in front of their faces. ;)

Having a photo ID for the flight never occurred to me for kids under 16, but the way things are now, that’s not a bad idea. LP has a school ID, but it’s not “official” from the state or anything like a driver’s license would be. She needs to get her driver’s permit, which would be official, but we may not handle that until we get back. Even if we did do it sooner, it might not get here before we leave. Well, crud, now that’s something I am going to have to add to my list! LC definitely doesn’t have one. I’ll have to wait until next week, though. Both of their birth certificates are in the safe and I don’t know how to open it. The DS is out of town. (I know, bad plan that I can’t open it, but I can never get it right!)

Thanks for the info on the theater, Felipe! I’m sure no matter which one we see it in we’ll all be too excited to care if it’s IMAX or not, but I am hoping for the IMAX one, and I definitely want us all to be together! I’ve been somewhat bummed to not be home for the midnight release because we have such a huge tradition built up around it here and this is the last one and we won’t be here with everyone, but of course being at LeakyCon far outweighs that overall, and seeing the movie with the biggest, truest HP fans and fellow Castle members will be one of the biggest highlights of the entire week. WAY makes up for not being at home! But we have to be together!

I wish I knew how they’re going to arrange that so we can be sure to all get together. I REALLY hope they at least let us buy for our whole party instead of each person individually. That would suck because then we could all be in different theaters if they are assigning specific theaters. Maybe there will be a choice of IMAX or not, since the other ones are all the same, and once the IMAX sells out then everyone just goes to whichever of the ones are left, not assigned theaters, until it all sells out. I know they’re having to arrange another theater aside from the one at Citywalk because it won’t hold the entire conference to begin with. I don’t want to have to deal with being bussed elsewhere if we can avoid it, so no matter what, I hope we all at least get into the Citywalk one. And pending the conference scheduling, I am definitely up for seeing it more than once!

If you talk to MM again, let her know that Saturday would be an IDEAL day to go to the conference! Starkid is sold out, unfortunately (though she could get on a waiting list – you never know), but there will be tons of other stuff going on and if she buys a one-day pass for Saturday she could also go to the Ball. Tell her to drop some heavy hints with her son and DIL, they’re both HP fans and I’m sure would go with her! But she has to do it fast because the whole conference is almost sold out!

And speaking of LeakyCon, I am off to get my miles in and build the legs up for all that walking…. Have a good night everyone!

I am awake with a headache so I’m catching up here and at Facebook while waiting for the meds to kick in. I think my DS has been awake too but he hasn’t said anything.

If we can get IMAX tickets and we can be certain to get them for ourselves and our children I would like to do that but, additionally, I would like for all of us to see the movie together. I would sacrifice the IMAX to go as a group and duck into the same regular theater together.

The park event ticket sale really bothered me. We have entire families registered for LeakyCon but you were in danger of a child being left without a ticket. I thought they supposedly had us linked to the minors attending with us. They should at least allow the adult buy tickets for their registered minors. There are a lot of minors like LEMON’S and mine who are registered as full adult attendees. You can’t leave a minor of 13 in a hotel room in Orlando alone while everyone else goes off to the park or the movie.

FELIPE, I’m on my Blackberry so I can’t get into Leaky Friends on Facebook from it. I don’t know why. I am a Hufflepuff at Leaky but I don’t do yellow as wearing attire. I am a dark blond with sallow skin. If I put on yellow I look jaundiced so I for LeakyCon I am going with the idea that it is you want and your decisions that define you. Ravenclaw is the second house I get sorted into and blue is a better color choice for me so for LeakyCon the Sorting Hat said, " Hmmm, you could be a great Hufflepuff but I see a brain there too." I said, “Please, not yellow.” The Sorting Hat said, “You’ll look fine in blue. RAVENCLAW!” I said, “Thank you!”

My daughter did much the same thing. She identifies with Neville and determines if he could manage Gryffindor so could she. She looks like a Hufflepuff but fights her own brave battles quietly and would also like to avoid yellow.

LEMON, if you want a red feather you can certainly have one. The place had more expensive feathers that were larger and in bright true colors. I did not want to pay for them and did not want something quite so obvious in my hair that long. I’m sure you could find some place with a skinny red feather you could tuck into your hair and “lose” when you didn’t want it. This was sort of a spur of the moment thing for us. I went into my favorite bookstore across town after my daughter had her immunizations and ordered URSULA, UNDER. When we came out there was the store a woman in the doctor’s office said they had feathers. So, I just walked in and there they were and we got them.

I had never heard of this feather thing until last week. It seems to be the rage and was surfacing at school. My daughter’s best friend got six of them a couple of days ago. When we went into the doctor’s office for the shots there sat a girl with yellow ones. My daughter was ecstatic to show me some. I had been resisting because I had thought she wanted a barrett with a feather dangling off. I thought they would be one more thing to pick up off the floor or find lost in a drawer in a couple of days. I had not realized they were semi permanent.

The mother of the child assured us they had been in forever and that they had already spent time in the pool and had been blow dried, brushed and combed and put through all kinds of torture.

My daughter had been pleading with me to no avail but once I saw they were something with a long term future I realized they looked fun for summer, even for me. I was a bit surprised when my daughter went more subtle than I did but I think I’m more of a Lbling" girl than she is.

The adult clerk who put the feathers in our hair had them too. She was young and beautiful but I thought, “Why let young and beautiful have all the fun?”

We are back to painting in the morning. Now. I have to make certain when I put my hair into a ponytail to keep it out of the paint I make sure the feathers are inside the ponytail surrounded by hair. I don’t need painted feathers.

My MIL’s eye doctor called me back to discuss her case. We started talking about scheduling a procedure and I was saying what days were in and out based on when I was going to be in town. She asked where I was going and I told her Orlando. She asked if the purpose of the trip was Disney and I said I was going to a conference at Universal but was going to go down five days early to go to Disney. Then, I decided to be brave and tell her exactly what conference I was attending. She basically Squeed! right there in her office. She is not going but would like to. They have already been down there this year and she has promised her husband they won’t go back until next year. She wants photos.

FELIPE, I would imagine you would be fine at the ball in a nice shirt and slacks with a yellow tie. From what LEMON has said you would be fine in a jeans and a T-shirt. I think our group is just dressing up for the fun of it. So, don’t stress or spend a lot of extra money that you could use elsewhere.

Morning all!

Lemon, if I am able to get to the ALA conference and can work something out to make it up your way, I would definitely love to stay with you! It would certainly make it more feasible money-wise, though it will all still depend on where things stand with school and/or a new job. :)

Felipe, I did check out the Discovery Cove website. I was getting really frustrated because I couldn’t find a page that listed pricing – every time I clicked on something that said to click for packages and pricing, it brought me to a page that listed what came in a package, but not what it actually cost. I finally tried clicking on “Begin Purchase” as if I wanted to buy a ticket, and that was when I got a calendar with pricing. It looks like it would be around $300 during the time I’ll be down there. I’m definitely going to pass this time around. I’ll save that for a time when I’m going to have more free days to take advantage of the ticket to one of the other parks.

For pricing on the movie, I’m pretty sure I had seen comments from LeakyCon staff indicating that the ticket price would be whatever the actual cost of the ticket is, with maybe a dollar or two extra if they’re providing transportation. So it sounds like there definitely won’t be any discount.

I had talked to the hotel to ask about the possibility of switching my reservation from Mon-Mon to Tues-Tues, but because the block is sold out, by doing that, I’d lose the group rate for the Mon night at the end of the reservation. The regular price is somewhere around $60 more than the group rate, so it would more than negate the $20 I’d save on airfare. So, I’ll be sticking with my original plans. The airfare bounced up again today…for some reason that’s been happening for the past month and so far, it always comes back down after a few days. Hopefully this won’t be the time that it sticks at the higher price. Once (if) it comes back down I’ll book. I’ll probably arrive very early on Monday (There’s one that gets in at 8:45am and one at 11:00am.) and leave late on the following Monday (I think it’s around 7:30pm.) so I’ll essentially be able to get in full days in Orlando on each of them. Maybe I will end up getting a regular Universal ticket to check out the park for a couple of hours on one of those days. :)

Gaaaaaaah!!!! ;)

I have been informed that I will be changing job duties and responsibilities, beginning Wednesday. The job itself is no big deal, but who will be training me is horrid!!

Asti, I will gladly take your LMG instead of this horror!! ;)

Good! I just found out that even though she will train me, my supervisor will still be my current boss. I don’t have to answer to her for anything like timekeeping or as a supervisor. That is a real relief. I suppose I will have to pare down my personal stuff here in the office. I don’t know how much storage room I will have at my new desk.

On to the practical things. ;)

I will still get the leave that I have already had approved, so that is one less thing to wory about.

I was asked about my job plans for the next five years or so. I told him that i plan to retire in three years and three months! ;)

Back to trying to clean up my desk and wrap up loose ends. ;)

I’m sorry you are being “trained” by someone with whom you have issues. So, do they realize exactly how much work you do when you are in your busy period? Will you still have to do that on top of the new job? I know this is not a nice way to start a holiday weekend.

We rented a 24 foot ladder this morning and propped it up on the front face of our house and it didn’t reach high enough in safe position to reach the apex of what needed painting and it was pretty much verticle and very unsteady. We have contracted a professional to manage that portion of the paint job.

Good evening!

Today has been very busy, catching up on washing that I wasn’t able to do on Tuesday due to being at the concert, and trying to get it dry to take away with us tomorrow. I even turned the heating on so I could use the radiators to hang it on! We’re all sat here in minimal clothing, the house is so hot. I can hear the environmental police massing outside……….

The Chelsea Flower Show yesterday was AMAZING. Everything is absolute perfection. I took about a squillion photos, some of which I will post, but if you are interested, there are videos and better pictures than mine here…..

The weather was as predicted. The thunderstorms got progressively heavier and lasted longer as the day went on. We used it to our advantage……… every time it rained, everyone piled into the Pavilion. At which point we went outside and viewed the Show Gardens with ease without the crowds. When the sun came out, and the crowds headed back outside, we looked around the Pavilion. Yes, we got soggy, but it was worth it, and if the journey home, with damp, steaming feet and clothes wasn’t particularly pleasant, lol!

Oh, and gosh, the traffic in London just gets worse and worse. It took 2 1/2 hours to get back, and half of that was just getting out of London.

Off to go and turn clothes on radiators and get a fan. Back to catch up soon I hope!

Asti I know they aren’t as common there as here, but why don’t you take the clothes to the laundromat or laundrette or whatever you call it? Just one cycle in the dryer will get them to the mostly-dry-but-still-damp-in-the-seams stage and they will be completely dry by morning, without the heat being on. ;)

Luckily this means a demotion in authority for the woman who will be training me. She will still be paid more than I am, but the irritant is her attitude, not her salary. I plan to learn fast so I can tell my boss to tell her to butt out. She is supposed to be there as my back-up during the busy season. I am planning not to need a back-up! ;)

On the plus side, she is older than I am and may just chuck it and retire. (Cross your fingers!!) Or they may see that she causes more problems than she solves and just fire her. She does not have the job protections that I do, she has only been here a bit over 10 years. ;)

Hometime! ;)

Afternoon, all!

LH I agree about getting us all in one theater, I hope it works out that way. I can see potential planning nightmares depending on how they arrange the ticket sales. If it’s anything like the park night, it’s going to be every man, woman and child for themselves in a massive rush of panic. Now that everyone has seen how fast the other tickets have gone, and adding the fact that absolutely EVERYONE is going to want the movie tix, whereas some actually did not want to go to the park, I’m envisioning a ticket feeding frenzy. I hope I’m wrong!

I love your Sorting Hat description, LOL! Luckily for me red is a good color and I wanted Gryffindor anyway, which is what I always get, but Ravenclaw is always second in line. I also like to wear blue, so I’m good to go. :)

I don’t think I will manage a feather, unfortunately. My hair is so curly and snarly to begin with, I’m afraid just adding one more thing to it would make it completely unmanageable, especially in the FL humidity and heat. I’ve already decreed to the girls that other than specific events like the Ball, this trip is about NO MAKEUP and NO HAIRSTYLING. We are going French braids and sunscreen and that’s it. My fashionista was having heart palpitations over it, but once I explained the effects of sweat and humidity on her makeup and the same on my hair, for sure, and potentially hers though it isn’t as curly as mine, she was sold. LemonDrop has stick straight hair and doesn’t usually wear much makeup in any case so she doesn’t care. But for the other two of us, this will be a big departure.

That’s so cool about the eye doctor person! You never know where/when you’re going to meet a fellow fan! Especially where you live, I know. Here it’s a lot easier. Since I don’t have to worry about the reactions the way you do, I wear my HP shirts a lot, and I always end up in conversation with someone, whether it’s a teenager who would normally be “way too cool” to talk to an old lady, a kid, someone my age or older, there is always at least one person. Now once I get my new license plates, I’m sure it will happen even more often! I ordered them last week, so they should be here before we leave. Our top three choices (we had to list in case one gets taken in the meantime) were: 2HGWRTS, GRFFNDR and WEASLY5. I’m hoping for the 2HGWRTS one because I already have a license plate frame to go around it that has Gryffindor on it. I love the Weasly5 one, but 2HGWRTS is really THE ONE. It’s where I want to be 24/7, after all. One of my good friends here, who is also a huge HP fan and really wanted to come with us to LeakyCon, calls us her Weasleys, which I admit I really love, especially because I know she means it. Since Molly is the other character I would want to be most, other than McGonagall (unless I could just be Harry, LOL), it makes me happy. My kids know that, as well, and when they want to butter me up over something they make sure to reference how much I remind them of Molly, LOL. I raised no dummies! ;)

And YAY for a professional to do the top part of the house! I am always extremely nervous about anyone having to do anything that high up. I have a dreadful fear of heights to begin with, but on top of that my DS’s real dad actually died falling off a roof (he was a contractor), so that is always in the back of my mind. It was so tragic.

Jen I would LOVE for you to come here, if it works out with your schedule that would be fabulous!!! Yay, something else to look forward to! I will keep my fingers crossed!

I’m sorry you’re going to miss out on the Discovery Cove this trip, but it sounds like a good plan to do it when you have a little more time. For your extra park days, if you decide to do any, we’ll be in there from the end of the Leaving Feast on Sunday to closing, probably. I’m thinking to go to the regular Universal that day, being that it’s a weekend and Islands of Adventure will probably be mobbed. Then on Monday, we’ll be in the park until about 2 PM when we’ll need to go back to the hotel to meet our car over to WDW. That day will probably be Islands of Adventure, which hopefully won’t be quite as insane on a Monday.

Also, for everyone flying into and out of Orlando – keep in mind that that airport has one of the WORST waits for getting through security due to the huge number of crowds they deal with on a daily basis, especially in summer. Normally we plan to get to an airport two hours ahead of the flight. For Orlando, I’m planning three. Now, when I was there for conference last year we actually got through security fairly quickly. Or, well, my one friend and I did. My other friend had some issues to resolve with her ticketing, which held her up a bit, but she’s a pilot’s wife and flies standby and was upgrading her seat to first class with us, but still. I’ve heard lots of horror stories from other friends at that conference who missed their flights because of the security waits and not allowing enough time to get through the lines. I don’t think it’s as big a deal during other times of the year, but summer is another animal. I arranged our car to get us there three hours ahead and we’re just going to get through security immediately and then have dinner in the airport while waiting for our flight.

Oh, and if you pick up any bath products, be prepared to have your luggage ruthlessly gone through and made a mess out of. When I got home from LeakyCon last time, my entire suitcase was an absolute disaster. I’d purchased some Lush products while out shopping in Boston with Jen and they evidently triggered quite an alert. So just FYI. I know there are several places to get really nice bath products in WDW at Epcot that are hard to resist. French milled soaps, etc. So be prepared if you decide to purchase them. :)

Deanie sorry to hear about the new training situation. Hopefully you’ll be out from under her thumb quickly and painlessly. Is this new position going to be more frustrating than your current one or about the same, do you know? I doubt it will be less so as that never seems to be the case in switches like this. I will hope for an even trade.

Ironsos that is SO CUTE about Fiona Shaw! She will finally get to be a witch. For some reason that actually made me teary, LOL.

Asti I’m so glad you enjoyed the flower show so much! Taking advantage of the weather that was was brilliant. That mirrors my plans for the theme parks in FL. Most people there, when it rains, all run inside until it stops. but being from WA, we’re too used to rain to let it stop us, so we’ll just continue on our way and take advantage of temporarily shortened lines. :)

Felipe, I’m glad the inspection went well, and some of the pressure is off your shoulders. It’s lovely to see you so excited about LeakyCon, and I’m sure you’ll look fine in your Hufflepuff tie. It’s good to hear you’ve been in touch with MM, she’s been gone a long time. Hopefully her work will ease up soon, and I really hope she’ll be able to get to meet you all!

To all of you going to LeakyCon, please please please take lots of pictures, and write as many detailed accounts as you can! I am looking forward to being a little tiny part of it through hearing about all your experiences and excitements.

Lemon, it’s nice to hear you had fun with Rhiannon and Sirius. I wish they were both still posting on here. I miss them both.

CoolG, I’m sorry that Mistic is having to work more than she wants to. I was unaware there were problems with her retirement…..I hope it’s worked out soon for her. Please pass on my love to her. And what is your news? How is your apartment coming on?

Won, I hope your appointment went well. xx

Jen, sorry to hear your allergies have been acting up. I was surprised at Chelsea……I thought that when we entered the Pavilion, we’d be hit by a blast of scent, but it was quite subdued. We only got strong, heavy scents close to certain stands, like the lillies, and a strawberry display. I was fine, but I’m sure it would have bothered a lot of people.
And that is really exciting news about you being a volunteer, and how lovely of you to want to give Leaky something back. You’re practically Leaky Staff!

Lady Hawke, I love the idea of feather extentions. (And it looks really pretty in you FB pic.) I havn’t seen them here yet, and I wouldn’t be allowed it at work, but I might just get away with one if it could be tucked up into a ponytail and hidden. Can they really be washed/brushed/treated as normal hair? If so, it’s certainly on my wish list!
I remember about 15 years ago, I had a very thin plait just back from my fringe, at the bottom of which I wore a silver bead, similar to Graymayne’s treasure beads.
I think your gown sounds very elegant. What is your daughter going to be wearing?
I also think your decision to hire a professional for painting the house at it’s height is VERY sensible. My DS did ours; he is very blase when it comes to ladders, having had a teenage window cleaning job, but it puts the fear of God into me to be at the bottom holding it. I can feel every movement he makes, and am constantly expecting him to take a dive into a flower bed. For reasons of sanity, getting someone else to do it is GOOD!

Nice to see a PB in passing!

Graymayne, I’m not a huge fan of cherry tomatoes, especially roasted. I dislike the texture of the cooked skins. But in a salad, or as a snack, I adore baby plum tomatoes. They are so sweet and crisp. And speaking as somewhat of an inside expert, I agree, the retail choice is insane, completely over the top and unnessessary, resulting in waste for the shop and the shopper alike.

Deanie, wow, that’s short notice on the change in job duties! I hope it works out ok for you, especially dealing with the trainer! You have my utmost sympathy for the time you have to spend with her.

I don’t know if I’ll get a chance to pop in tomorrow, and am going to be Internetless all weekend. So, have fun, and I’ll be back soon!

Deanie, there isn’t a single launderette within a feasible distance of me. When my machine broke down last year I had to beg for the assistance of my neighbours! It doesn’t help that a lot of our clothes cannot be tumbledried.
I hope the new position works out as you plan!

Lemon, I love the license plate, good luck on getting it! And how awful about your DS’s dad. Please tell your fashionista she is naturally beautiful! (And you too!) When I was her age I wouldn’t leave the house without full makeup. Now, I wear it about once or twice a year. I don’t mind the putting it on so much, it’s the taking it off that makes it all seem so pointless!

Evening all! I just watched a film on Film 4, The Secret Life of Bees because it had Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning in it. In fact there was also Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keyes, Sophie Okenado and Paul Bettany! It was set in the 60’s and there were a few unpleasant scenes involving racial abuse, but mostly it was in a much kinder place. Excellent performances all round.

I have decided to re-read The Hobbit because I am logging onto a fan site regularly now that the film in underway in NZ. My memory of the story is very hazy.

Asti I’m glad that you enjoyed the Chelsea Flower Show yesterday: I have watched one or two of the broadcasts from there this week. Have fun this weekend.

I’m really sleepy, I think I’ll turn in.

Hi, again, everyone! This is just a quick run through. I’ve picked up the kids and managed one grocery store. Now I have to finish as much of my exercise as possible while the kids clean up in anticipation of LemonCharm having a friend spend the night. We’re going for our usual Friday night pizza for dinner, then Walmart to finish the shopping, then home to finish the exercise. sigh Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are my looooong days of exercise and I find I am counting down how many more of them there are before the trip. I will keep it up after we get back, but not quite as insanely as I am now when it leaves me little time for anything else.

Asti I will really try to get a lot more pictures this time! I’m so bad about doing that, but I will have extra people with me to charge with that duty this time. My DS is actually a photographer, but he does scenics and doesn’t do enough of the “happy snaps” as he calls them, unless I nag him. Which I will! The majority of the photos we had from the last LeakyCon were from the photo shoot the four of us did in Salem, which was SO much fun. We couldn’t stop laughing! But I do wish I’d taken a lot more of the conference itself, and all of us running around. I hope you have a terrific time this weekend! Be sure to take lots of photos, too! :)

I’m very hopeful on the license plate, as long as the person who processes the application has at least two brain cells to rub together. I made a mistake when I filled the form out online and put the GRFFNDR one as first choice (we have to fill it out online, but then print it and mail it in – so silly!), so when I mailed it in, I put little arrows between that one and the 2HGWRTS one and put “1st Choice” over it. Hopefully that is enough! It was really hard to choose, and I wouldn’t mind the GRFFNDR one, but now that I finally made my decision, I want the first choice, LOL.

I’ve told LP that she doesn’t need the makeup, but she absolutely doesn’t believe me. I’m not a great role model in that regard since I prefer not to go out without it, either. I was always very girlie and into the makeup and jewelry and having my nails done, all that stuff, but I really lost that part of myself for a long time. Between having three little kids, being busy, working, gaining the weight, etc., etc., it just felt like too much effort and like a waste of time given everything else. I didn’t realize how much I’d missed it until I felt like trying it out again. Now I’m hooked again! But I so hear you on the taking it off part, that is definitely the worst. I’ve had to go to waterproof mascara at all times because the regular stuff just runs on me like black water. I love not having raccoon eyes all the time anymore, but it is the very devil to get off, and I really don’t like the oily residue the remover leaves behind. My DS doesn’t actually like makeup very much, but I told him I don’t wear it for him, I wear it for me, LOL. But he refuses to kiss me if I have lipstick on! That’s okay, though. I refuse to kiss him after he’s had a gyro, which he loves, so I figure we’re even. :)

Graymayne I finally bought the full LOTR series. I tried to read The Hobbit when I was pretty young and just couldn’t get through it. I think it was the first fantasy-based story I ever tried to read. Now, though, I’m sure I will enjoy it all. I just need a good window to be able to get through the whole thing. I’ve got one romance novel I’m reading right now, by one of my friends, then I’m going to reread Harry in time for the conference. But LOTR is on top of the list for when we get back. I’m very looking forward to it!

Off to exercise, catch you all later!

Move west 7 or 8 time zones! When we moved from Virginia to Hawaii, the jet lag just about killed me.The couple assigned to show us around had the set The Hobbit and the Ring trilogy and I borrowed them. I read all four books in about a week. I would read until I could not keep my eyes open, then sleep. Immediately on waking i would start reading and only stop long enough to get a shower and if my hands were in water. My DS would have to go to work and cope as best he could while I read all night. I came out the other end of this time fully acclimated to the new times.

I don’t seem to get jet lag when travelling east, just west.

Luckily we were still basically in a motel, waiting for the car to arrive. So I did not have transportation or expectations to run any errands. I was basically trapped in the motel. Once the car came off the ship, I had to go apartment hunting. ;)

It is a method for getting through the books, but because whole chapters were read while very tired, I am afraid that some of the finer points were lost. As a jet lag remedy it was excellent! ;)

I think I need to go in search of sustenance. ;)

Bbt. ;)
