Lady Hawke My DS wants to know what Little Hawke’s favorite color is. Her second favorite would be helpful, too. He is making something for her for August. It’s not big, but it is personalized. ;)

Off to try to get to sleep before too late. ;)

Morning all!

I have to go into a meeting shortly (likely to be one of those annoying ones where people just keep saying the same thing over and over and we just waste time going in circles, ugh), but hopefully I’ll be able to get back over here once that’s done. I know there had been other stuff I’d wanted to comment on when I had to cut my post short yesterday to head out with my dad and sister. :)

It is a beautiful morning here, not a crowd in the sky, but the little red warning on the TV keeps telling me the county south of us is under Severe Thunder Storm Warnings for all day until tonight. I think that must be wrong.

DEANIE, your DS is going to be sorry he asked about color. It is not as upfront as it seems, no simple blue and purple answer here.

Her first favorite color is teal, leaning to the blue side. Her second favorite color is violet, not true purple. It is a quagmire of potential wrong turns.

Her favorite dress is teal, leaning to the green side. So, I know anywhere in the general teal range works. So, there is close enough out there.

We have to take my MIL to the eye doctor this morning. She got new glasses three months ago but they wanted to see her back, I think to look at the state of her cataracts. Do I see a medical procedure ahead?

I need to take my daughter to get a photo ID and she needs a booster shot for tetanus that also includes some other shot she needs that they can do in combination. The nurse said to bring her in before our trips so she wouldn’t go off and get hurt and be given a tentanus shot that would prevent them from giving her this “one shot kills two birds shot”.

I need something to wear to the ball.

Morning All

Lady Hawke Was your sun over bright at sunset? We took pictures and a video but neither showed how unusual the sun was sparkling. I am use to tornado’s in Indiana but here we are close to the AK line, then of course Oklahoma which is to rnado alley is closer too. It’s weird to hear reports from the storm chasers on the news. Good luck finding the right ball gown. Maybe you will find something on sale since it is after all the school proms.

Asti No Mistic is not enjoying all the hours she has been working. She’s taking it now while she can get it because of the problems with her retirement which are in the process of being resolved. If you have ever talked to Mistic, you know you do not have time to get a word in. That’s good for me since I listen easier than I talk. Lol Have fun on your days off.

Lemon How nice you got to see Sirus again. I must be really out of the loop since I usually know when he’s visiting.

I am getting excited for you all who are going to Leaky Con. It makes me wish my affairs were in order so that I could go too. We were planning on going to HP theme park this fall but atlas that also has fallen by the wayside.

Won It might be time to consider getting either live in help or someone to come by every day. There are better uses of your energy than doing housework.

Lady Hawke Thanks for the color info. It won’t really help since what he has are the four basic Hogwarts colors of red, blue, green and yellow and the color part is really just an accent, not the majority of the item. Could you just tell me what hogwarts house she is in and he’ll do the color accordingly. ;)

Graymayne If you have any pictures of the wands your DS has made, would you please post them at CC? My DS has retired and now feels the need for projects. ;)

Any one else who has a wand made by yourself or a family member, please post those pictures at CC, too. He’s trying to see as many as possible in the hopes that he will get inspired to design some of his own. ;)

That takes care of the PSA’s on behalf of the DS. ;)

Aloha! ;)

COOLG, When the storm really started perking at sunset I made a point of going out to look at the sunset. There was a tornado to the north of us and one to the south. What I saw was not as spectacular as what you described but did look similar to the photographs you took. The air had a green cast for awhile and the it turned yellow and pink.

My DS and daughter saw a funnel trying to form north of our house. They stayed out after I went in and said the clouds were beginning to make a swirl and were starting to suck other clouds into the swirl and then it moved off to the north.

DEANIE, after weeks of absolute silence in reference to the Birkenstock order I have received an email indicating they should arrive in around three weeks.

This cames after I have cancelled the order on several voice mails and by email to the company. They have never responded me in any way except now to assure me they are coming now that the order has been cancelled for weeks.

I have sent out another barage of emails and voice messages.

Okay, going to try to finish commenting on all I’d meant to yesterday.

LH, I haven’t purchased additional tickets for Universal yet either, and I’m not sure if I’m going to. I had figured I would if we had people coming down to meet-up but not go to the conference, but now that Felipe is attending, I’m not sure if there’s anyone else who’s considering it. I may just play it buy ear and buy one once I’m down there (though I don’t know that the discounted ones would be available; I’d probably just buy one at the Universal gate at that point) if I have down time after the conference (I suppose that will depend on whether I stay through Mon or Tues. I’ve never been to the FL Sea World, but the CA one was great; I went with my aunt and uncle when I was in high school. I know there’s also a place in Orlando where you can swim with the dolphins. I think it’s called Discovery Cove. It’s probably pretty pricey, but I’ve always wanted to do that, so I’m highly tempted to treat myself. :)

LH, where did you go to find the average temps? Just one of the weather sites? I’m curious to see what it is for my area. If I had to guess, I’d say probably mid-80s, but I’d be interested to see if my perception is correct.

CoolG, thanks for the update on Mistic!

Asti, I hope you’re enjoying your day at the flower show! I’ve been thinking of you as I sneeze and rub my eyes…my allergies are acting up like crazy today; I’d be a mess there, LOL!

Felipe, for the movie tickets, they’ve said that per their agreements with the theater, they can’t publish the ticket info publicly. So, when they become available, they’ll post a notice telling everyone to log in to the LeakyCon site to get the info. (I think they have to wait for an okay from the theater to do so too, which is probably why they haven’t done so yet. People have been saying that AMC theaters are expecting to begin selling tickets in early June, so that’s likely when Leaky will be able to open them.) As LH, said, they’ve generally been posting stuff on FB first (and also Twitter), but as Lemon mentioned, the tickets will probably be available to RockStars first, so either way, I’m sure you’ll hear about it in plenty of time. :)

Lemon, the Anaheim ALA conference is June 21-26, 2012. When is RWA? That would be so awesome if they were around the same time!! Even if they’re a week apart, if one of us stayed a few days after and the other arrived a few days early, it would be perfect!

Woo hoo, in further LeakyCon news, I just checked my email and had one from the Volunteer Coordinators asking if I’d like to be a General Aide. :) Now that I’ve said yes, they should send me something at some point with offers of specific shifts I can sign up for (in two-hour blocks, I believe they said). I’m excited – it’s a good way to feel like I’m giving a little something back to Leaky in thanks for their awesomeness and also a good way to meet more people! Maybe I’ll even be able to recruit some new poll visitors! There were a few people last time who said they’d pop in, but I don’t think any of them ever did. :(

Good afternoon, everyone!

LH I’m glad you stayed safe through the storms. Very trippy looking skies for you, though, and CoolG. That is SO frustrating on the sandal order! My gosh. I’m glad they finally acknowledged you, though.

Deanie that’s very cool that your DS is also pondering making wands. I don’t have a handmade one, just one from Alivan’s. I love it, though. It’s made from purpleheart wood and has a crystal at the tip and several small ones circling part of the base. If he starts making them, be sure to post pics on CC!

Won I hope the appointments go well. I’ll be thinking of you.

Jen that’s awesome that you’ll be volunteering at the conference! I gave that some thought myself. I really enjoyed volunteering at my local writer’s conference. I met SO many people and it was nice to feel involved and part of the “in” group behind the scenes. But I determined that when it comes to LeakyCon, I am just too selfish. You’ll have to let us know where you’ll be and when so we can come hassle, er, I mean, give you lots of support! LOL

I just checked the RWA National site. The conference next year is at the end of July, not the beginning. :( Dang it, I was really hoping that would work out. It seems like two conferences perfectly made to go together, one for writers and one for librarians! We’ll just have to figure something else out, then.

If you end up deciding to go to the Sea World in FL like LH, I can attest that it is fabulous, or at least it was 25 years ago, LOL. I can only imagine it’s gotten even better since then. The park struck me as larger than the CA one at the time, but it’s hard to say for sure. The Discovery Cove deal where you get to swim with the dolphins is pretty pricey, I think around $350 per person? But it would be SO worth it if you’re able. I was really hoping to add that to our plans as well, but with five of us at that price there was just no way. It would be a memory of a lifetime, though.

I did end up getting the four-day, two-park pass for us. I know for sure we’re going on Sunday and Monday after LeakyCon, and I figured there would be at least one other evening of going, whether the first night we get there or after a wrock concert or something, pending what everyone else is doing. I want to spend as much time with our Leaky people as possible, so if no one else is going in, then I would probably stay with you guys most of the time, but it would give the family something to go do while I’m partying Castle style. :) I’ve been to Universal CA many billions of times, so that park isn’t as big a draw to me as Islands of Adventure, even though I know it’s got different and updated things since the last time I went to the CA one. All I really care about is HP World. I do love rollercoasters and hope to go on them all, but as long as I get plenty of time in Hogsmeade, I’ll be happy.

I can’t wait to get our movie tickets!!!! That’s the one big thing left that I really want handled ASAP, plus I want to know the date for sure. I’m wondering if we really will get it for the midnight release or not. There hasn’t been a whisper yet about moving the date back to the Tuesday/Wednesday midnight slot as they have in the past and I’m wondering if for this final one maybe WB is going to make us wait all the way to Thursday night into Friday. On one hand that would make me feel a little better, only because we’re getting in Tuesday night and I’d be worried if our flight was late or the luggage got lost or some other catastrophe had to be dealt with that we might miss it (or wind up with terrible seats if we were not able to be there early enough in line to get good ones.) On the other hand, I REALLY don’t want to wait any longer than necessary, LOL. I’m also very curious to see how they handle the ticket sales. I want to be able to buy my whole party’s tickets at once to be sure we’re in the same theater, but I also want to make sure all of us from the Castle are in the same theater, and at the speedy rate things tend to sell, I’m not sure that will happen. Plus, only three of us are RockStars, so by the time everyone else is able to buy theirs, the first couple of theaters could be sold out. :( So much to fret about! sigh

Hi Lemon! With the volunteering, once they release the full schedule, they’ll send me a list of time slots for which they need help, and I can sign up for the ones I want. So, I’ll be able to make decisions based on the schedule. I could either select something when there isn’t programming that I’m dying to attend OR I could offer to help at something that I know I wanted to be at anyway. I’ll just see what there is. But I do think it’ll be fun.

Darn on the RWA conference. I’ll have to see what my money situation is like then. Maybe I can work something out to come stay up near you for a day or two before or after ALA. :)

Yikes – at $350 I definitely won’t be swimming with any dolphins, LOL! :(

Do you think they’ll specify which theater we’ll be in when we get the tickets? For midnight releases at the theater here, they don’t even go by the theater number that spits out on your ticket. Everyone lines up and when they open the theaters, the line moves forward and they send the first group of people into the first theater, then when it seems almost full move to the second, etc. Once they get to the last theater, an attendant goes into the first one to determine how many open seats there are, and to have people shift to try to get open seats together. So, as long as you’re in line with the people you want to sit with, you’ll most likely end up together. It works pretty well. I just assumed that’s how they’d do it. I’m not going to stress too much about where in the theater I’m sitting. I know I can go back and see it at home and sit wherever I want. For this, it’ll just be about being in a theater full of die-hard fans. And I know I’m not going to want to leave the Wrock concert early just to stand in line. I’m still mad that I left early to get ready for the ball last time and missed Alex Carpenter setting his guitar on fire, LOL! :D

Hi, Jen! That’s very cool that you’ll get to choose which time slots you want, that would make me feel more at ease about it for sure! Maybe I’ll still think about it… I’d love to give back to Leaky for everything, as well, and it IS really so much fun to be involved. Hmmm.

That would be completely awesome if you could come up this way prior to or after your conference! And you’d be MORE THAN WELCOME to stay here instead of a hotel if you’d be comfortable with that. We always have LemonDrop bunk with LemonCharm when we have guests, so guests can have their own room. We got all the kids queen sized beds for that reason when we moved here. Her room even has a little office attached. :) The only thing I ever have to warn people about (aside from descending into Lemon Craziness) is a reminder about the cats in the case of allergies. But if you’re not allergic to cats, do think about it, it would be great to have you here! If you are allergic to cats but would still like to come, there are several decent hotels very nearby. None of them are exactly stellar, but they’re good for a couple of nights. Just let me know and we’ll work it out!

Do double check the amount for the dolphin thing, it could very well have been less. That’s just the number that sticks in my head, but my head is notoriously unreliable when it comes to figures. :) I’d hate for you to miss out on it based on my, possibly faulty, information!

Oh, that is a VERY good point about the theater! I didn’t think of that, but because every theater inside the cinaplex is an IMAX there is probably no reason to designate theaters per ticket. Here, we only have one theater that’s an IMAX one, out of 16 in the complex, and only two or three others that have the nice big screens. The rest are all much smaller theaters and smaller screens, so people definitely want the bigger and better ones. Our tickets are always based on which theater we get to go into, with the people who buy their tickets earliest getting the best ones. But you’re right, that most likely won’t be the case there. Good, one less thing to worry about! LOL

As far as seating goes, I’m with you on not caring as much about where we’re at inside the theater because the main thing is definitely to experience it with all those rabid HP fans for the midnight release. In fact, depending on what times Leaky programming ends each evening, we might even be able to go back and see it again another night if the release is Tuesday into Wednesday… just a thought! LOL

However, I do have to say that for the midnight release of OoTP we were in one of the front rows, and it really did negatively impact my impression of that movie. Not that it’s my favorite anyway, but because we were so close, any full screen shots of the actors’ faces or things like that almost became comedic, because they were just SO huge that close up, plus it gave me a headache (which would be exacerbated by its being in 3D – I really wish they had not gone that route!), and a neck ache from having to lean my head back so far for 2 1/2 hours straight.

So I’ll just hope that we at least get seats somewhere in the farther back section of the theater, though like you, I definitely don’t want to miss any Leaky programming in order to just go stand in line for hours. I’m betting most people will feel the same way, so we shouldn’t have too much trouble. Fingers crossed!

Oooh, I’m still mad at myself for ducking out of that concert early, too! sigh Well, we definitely learned our lesson, I guess. We know not to leave anything early even again! ;)

Time to head home! I’ll be back in a bit! but before I go I just wanted to mention, I’ve been wanting/planning to go to Discovery Cove for a long time. I have done some research and it’s worth the price. It’s all inclusive, meals, and you even get a ticket to one of the other Busch parks (SeaWorld, Aquatica water park, or Busch Gardens Tampa) “for the duration of your vacation” (I think it’s a two-week max). Check out their website: http://www.discoverycove.com/ OH! And they’re opening a new exhibit this summer!

They’d probably be perfect for you! I’m on my phone right now, so don’t have the link readily at hand, but I believe LeakyCon tweeted about them recently, so if you check their feed, you should find it, but if not, let me know and I’ll get it to you after! :)

I have inadvertently made a decision on my House for LeakyCon. My daughter wanted feather extensions in her hair and I ended up getting them too. LH I need pics of those! I’ve never heard of feather extensions, I wanna see! Sounds like fun. I am NOT going to show my girls or I’m sure they will want them too, LOL. I’m surprised LittleHawke didn’t go for Gryffindor red for one of them, though!

Jen, thanks. :) I remember you talking about those, and did see the Leaky tweet actually – when I was waiting impatiently all day for the not-a-real-update update, LOL. I actually don’t mind the 3D-ness of it, I just don’t think it adds to the movie in most cases. For example, in Pirates4, anytime there was a 3D effect, like sticking the sword straight out of the screen toward the audience, I just thought it looked lame. I did like the 3D effects they did at the end of OoTP, actually, I thought those were well done, so if it’s like that all the way through it won’t bother me as much. I thought they wasted it in HBP. Yes, it was cool in Slughorn’s muggle house, but if they were going to do it in only one spot, IMO, it should have been the cave.

The only movie I have seen recently where I thought the 3D was both necessary and extremely well done was Avatar. It was so seamless and beautiful, it was amazing. But that movie was shot in 3D, which HP was not. I think that makes a difference in the quality of it on screen. Then I look at absolutely incredible movies like Inception, and all the amazing effects they employed, the richness of the film, the depth of the scenes, without a scrap of 3D anywhere, and wonder why anyone would mess with it. If Inception could be that spectacular without it, no one needs it. They just need to shoot well and get the effects right.

But what really bothers me about 3D, other than often looking corny, is the glasses themselves. I don’t know if the 2D ones would be any better in that respect. I have a slight astigmatism in one eye which makes it really hard to focus in those non-prescription glasses. I can’t look through binoculars with both eyes for the same reason. I have to close one eye in order to see. And with the 3D glasses, which usually are well-used, they’re scratched and messed up, plus I find the film covering on the lenses darkens the movie. So for all of those reasons, they really bother me. The Real3D glasses, which look like RayBans (okay not really, but that sort of Risky Business style) and come new in packaging are a little better, but I still have a hard time focusing through them.

Anyway, thanks for thinking of me about that! I did look at them, I just don’t know that they’ll help my main problem. I probably need to go get prescription glasses again, but I am rebelling against it after paying all that money out for LASIK. sigh

Felipe you and Jen are making me wish all over again for unlimited funds, LOL. I so wanted to do the dolphin swim!

Evening all! We had quite a few showers today but we had to go food shopping, the fridge was bare. My DS has been fighting a cold that he picked up in Wales. We went to a large branch of our usual supermarket today and I found it really frustrating. They used to supply a particular type of tomato, on the vine, which had a really good flavour and a modest size, but suddenly the cherry tomatoes are all the rage and I detest the flavour. After that irritation the rest of my shopping just became a drag, the bigger the store the greater the choice, and the whole retail business just seemed completely silly. It was such hard work seeking out my own modest choices. I’ll stick to the smaller premises in future. We went to that one because we needed to buy printer ink, CD wallets and two types of envelopes at a nearby store. That was a much better experience.

Deanie There is a photograph right now in my personal album which demonstrates my DS’s approach to wand making. The wood, found in local woods and hedgerows, and left to dry for ages, is what dictates the end product. The only tools he uses are a saw and a knife to whittle the main body, followed by several grade of sandpaper. He frequently retains the bark for the handle and polishes the wand several times with a beeswax polish.

GRAYMAYNE, we have tomatoes on the vine here. They are really nice. I have only recently come to like tomatoes raw. Tomatoes on the vine and Romas are my favorite. I do not like cherry tomatoes at all and they do not slice for sandwiches or to stack on mozzarella cheese.

LEMON, my daughter did not have the choice of a red feather. We had a selection of primarily more natural colored feathers. Her black one starts at black and trails down to auburn on the tip. There was one orange feather but it wasn’t a bright orange, more subdued, but most of the feathers were blacks and browns. I dug down and found the one that had the blue mixed with black and a long thin black one. Apparently, we are meant to be able to treat them like hair and shampoo them and brush them.

Did I miss something on my catch up? Do we know what theater we will be seeing the movie? Are all the screens IMAX?

I HATE 3-D glasses. PLEASE let it NOT be in 3-D.

I also took my daughter today to get her last boosters of tetanus, meningitis, and another one I can’t say right now. Fortunately, two of them were combined so she had three shots in two. They said she might feel bad later but so far it hasn’t hit. I wanted to get it done before the trips we are taking so she would have the immunization for tetanus for in case there were any accidents or cuts. The nurse said to bring her in before the trips because the tetanus shot had something else in combination with it that she needed and if she needed a tetanus shot away from home then they wouldn’t be able to give her their version with the extra shot. So, that is one thing off my list.

I also tried to take her to get her photo ID. I took her birth certificate but not her Social Security Card so we have to go back. Sigh…

Found it! ;)

He is interested and w do know at least one acknowledged Pagan. I am sure that a wand made from one of our oak trees would be loved and appreciated. So I’m sending him out this weekend to collect a few acceptable specimens in the hope that one of them will dry without major cracking and be useable.

Our yard has quite a few oak trees and so does our land in Oklahoma. I actually named this house Silver Oaks. We can’t get mail addressed that way, but it is our private name for it. ;)

Sweet Gum trees have great twigs and small branches, but as the name implies, they almost do not dry thoroughly because the sap is thick and gummy. We have a number of them here as well. They do have beautiful red foilage in spring, but the fruits (balls that are covered with little spikes) are huge pains, physically and metaphoricly. ;)

I got to chat with MM for a bit and she’s not been able to drop by because she’s been quite busy, working from home. Poor MM is swamped with work :-(

Deanie that’s so cool! I wish I could get a handcrafted wand :-) I actually have some I’ve bought from Allivan’s and from the WWoHP. I guess Allivan’s is as handcrafted as I can get. I love wood work and crafts. My grandfather who lives in Argentina is actually a carpenter and he’s made me thing before when I was a kid, but I didn’t get into HP until a few months before moving to the US, around a decade ago, so he never made me a wand. I wonder if he could make me some wands and ship em internationally :-P Haha!

LH about the Cineplex in Universal CityWalk… There is only one IMAX screen and the rest are regular screens. The seats are super comfy and they even recline a little. I love that movie theatre. I hope they give us a special price for tix because they can be quite expensive there, especially the ones that require RealD 3D glasses… I don’t remember exactly how much, but I saw Priest in 3D with my family the weekend before last, and the tickets were definitely over $10. I wanna say something like $13-$15? Not really sure though… I’ll have to find out. But either way, I hope we get special pricing.

Won I hope everything went fine at the lab and doctor. Take care! :-)

Cool G I wish affairs could be all sorted out soon. It’d be so cool if you could come, and it’d be nice for you to take a trip for stress relief and fun too ;-)
