Welcome to HarryPotterSeven.com, LeakyNews.com and The Floo Network's comprehensive fan guide to the seventh and last book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This is a fully free resource that features essays, roundups and predictions from some of the most knowledgeable fans online, and contains the kind of evaluation, analysis, speculation, clues, hints and tips to decoding Harry Potter that you cannot get anywhere else.
Do we have all the answers? Heck no! Do we think we do? Heck no! Would we ever dare tell you that anything here absolutely will without-a-doubt happen in the last book? No. Well - in some instances, yes, because some things that J.K. Rowling has said in previous interviews lead to some pretty solid conclusions on what will be in Deathly Hallows. Barring that, however, you should not read this guide expecting to come out of it knowing the contents of book seven. We'd be foolish to even try to tell you as much would happen.
What we WILL tell you is that you will not get better analysis and speculation of the first six books anywhere. The people involved in writing this guide have been working inside this fandom for years; they include Steve Vander Ark, who runs the Harry Potter Lexicon and is the perfect person to sum up what has happened in the first six books, as both a refresher course and prologue to the kind of speculative, investigative work done in the rest of the essays; they also include Lisa Bunker, who runs Accio Quote! and as such is an expert on all things said by J.K. Rowling - and therefore the perfect person to sum up our favorite author's words to try and shake some last-book details and sense out of them. Our Scribbulus Editors Emily Bytheway and Susan Faust have written guides to interpreting J.K. Rowling's work and tying up the loose plotlines in the books. Our essayists bring us, here, an educated look at what will happen to Snape, the Prophecy's role, love in the series, and much, much more. In short, everything that might play a major role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is analyzed and scrutinized here to intense detail, the kind only fans will accept and with the quality of writing and attention to detail fans deserve.
This guide is our way of wrapping up almost a decade of speculation as we head to the moment where speculation ends. At the end you'll find a collection of letters we've received at The Leaky Cauldron from fans around the world, as well as some personal essays on being a fan during the most exciting Potter era of all time.
Everything here will soon be available in downloadable PDF form, as separate chapters as well as one cohesive eBook. We have discussion links set up for each essay, all tied together in its own forum inside our LeakyLounge's massive Deathly Hallows section. We will be discussing these essays on PotterCast, having contests relating to them on Leaky, and expanding this section in the future to include your input, ideas, suggestions and more.
But that's not the only upshot of reading this guide. The writers of this section have all donated their work and extraordinary amounts of time editing, illustrating, fact-checking and more to make sure this is the most comprehensive Book Seven guide available anywhere. And they have all decided to take their selflessness one step further, and dedicate their work to literacy.
Starting today and going through the publication of Book Seven, we will be collecting for Book Aid International the way that Leaky has been doing for the past four years. We didn't do a Christmas "Get a Clue" drive in 2006 in preparation for the ongoing drive that we are introducing now. Book Aid International is an organization that works to set up libraries in developing countries, thereby fostering literacy and education forever in those areas. It's a cause we find honorable and worthy of support, and because you all seem to agree we have given them more than $30,000 over the years.
Edit Nov 2007: This drive raised more than $4,000 for literacy. Thank you all!
This section is a gift to fans around the world, put together by the amazing writers and editors on this team; the donation we make as a group at the end of it will be a gift to those who might have never been Harry Potter fans without it.
Thank you in advance for your support, and we hope you enjoy this guide - we certainly had a great time putting it together. We hope it gives you a little extra Potter to ponder as we await that glorious last volume. But most of all, we hope you find gratification in supporting a publication that has something in common with Harry himself: namely, the power the Dark forces know not—the power to help the world.
