New Christmas Trailer Squeeeeeeeeeeee!

If you’ve been keeping track on the Doctor Who website, today’s advent calendar item is a new trailer for the Christmas special, “The Next Doctor.” It gives a little bit more of a taste of what’s to come (and a hint of coordination between our Doctor and the other one, played by David Morrissey). If you’re not in the UK, you’ll have to go check out youtube.com to find it since the BBC website videos are blocked in the US for rights reasons. But it’s worth the search!

Morrissey made an appearance on BBC Breakfast (which you can also find the clip for on youtube.com), basically refusing to confirm or deny whether The Next Doctor really means the Next Doctor, or is just a tease. Fun interview! He describes his character in the Christmas special as someone with “issues”. Hmm. As he says, “You’ll have to tune in.”

Our good friend (don’t I wish) Russell T. Davies hinted that Morrissey could really be the next Time Lord. The issue of Doctor Who Magazine which came out earlier in the month quoted Davies as saying he struggled with why Tennant’s Doctor wouldn’t recognize Morrissey’s Doctor, but the answer was handed to him in the form of last year’s Children In Need special, Time Crash (in which Tennant’s Doctor is reunited with Peter Davison, who doesn’t recognize him until #10 is able to prove he remembered being #5. Lost? Oh, wibbly-wobbley, timey-wimey.) So maybe Morrissey isn’t the next Doctor, but a future one just the same?
