Usually I’m not one to fall for really artsy type films, but this one was different. I’m Not There is a dramatic version of Bob Dylan’s life. There are 6 actors who all portray a different version of Bob Dylan, although all of their characters are given different names they all represent a part of Bob Dylan’s life. These representations don’t nessccesarly happen during different time periods of Bob Dylan’s life, but different parts. They are also not in chronological order, which adds to the artsy feel. Some of the best performances in my opinion were from Cate Blanchete who portrayed Dylan at the peak of his popularity and Heath Ledger who was Bob Dylan during his divorce. I thought it was a very interesting way to portray an individual’s life. So I started thinking about what six parts of Harry Potter’s life from the book series would be used in a similar film about Harry’s life. Below are the six parts of Harry’s life that I think would make the best movie (like “I’m Not There” this film would have these sections out of chronological order) and would accurately show Harry’s life story.

The Boy Who Lived – This Harry would follow Harry as a baby living with his parents. His parents hiding from Lord Voldemort. It would also explain many things that aren’t made evident until later in the book series. This section would end with the dramatic scene at Godric’s Hollow in which Harry survives the killing curse and his parents are murdered.

Discovery a World – This section would be begin with Harry discovering he is a wizard, and being “rescued from the Dursleys”. It would continue right through Harry’s life discovering the many wonders of the wizarding world. It would not have a set timeline since right up until the end of the series Harry is always learning new things about the wizarding world that are obvious to characters like Ron.

Puberty! – It happens to everyone. This would mainly follow Harry during Order of the Phoenix where Harry makes the difficult change from a boy to a man. It would also show the various love exploits of our favourite hero. Including his relationships with Cho and Ginny, as well as the Yule Ball.

Death – Harry slowly comes to terms with death throughout the series and he experiences the deaths of Cedric, Sirius, Dumbledore, Lupin, Tonks, Fred and many more. This section would show how Harry learns about Death and how he reacts to each of the Death’s. The segment finishes with the understanding that he him self must die.

Alone – This section would show the adventures of Harry, Ron and Hermione throughout book seven. It would include the trio hunting down the remaining horcurxes, and eventually end with the defeat of Lord Voldemort. So it would be a nice transition from being alone with only Ron and Hermione (and at some points only Hermione) to defeating Voldemort with the help of his entire school.

Family – This would show Harry’s constant struggle to find family and his various father figures throughout the series. It will of course finish at King’s Cross where the epilogue takes place, and Harry goes to the Hogwarts express with his three children and wife.

I think this would make for one helluva film! This might actually be a better method to use for a Harry Potter Musical, because it condenses the story in emotions that would not overcomplicate a musical. Love to hear what you all think of this idea. Sam
