Arty Farty and the Future of Quibbler

And so the cycle begins again with the release of the Quibbler. If you
hadn’t noticed due to the ranting and raving over the breaking news from WB
about HBP being moved to a new release date, yes we did deliver on time, as
advertised and somewhat streamlined.

We did away with the flash page turn gimmick – it was causing more aggro with
readers than it was worth. I have to say I am particularly proud of the
work put into this issue by the people behind the scenes, the articles are
fantastic, the artwork inspired and the general quality of the whole is just
going up and up. And considering the first edition was great; I am soon
going to be running out of superlatives to describe it.

I should mention at this time the artwork in the adverts. Adversing was
added in to the mix a ways into the whole process; hence one would notice issue
3 has much more adverts than issue 1, and it really happened in such a way that
I am almost inclined to believe it was fate. One of the people working on
issue 2 said “I have an idea for an advert but cant do the artwork…” and we
jotted the idea down for the advert in a thread and thought, well when someone
has the time we’ll see what we can do. Within days, I was talking to a
reader of the Quibbler via e-mail about something unrelated, when they said ‘well
if there’s any way I can help, I did graphic design and, and and….” and all of
a sudden we had a new Quibbler staff member who took the vague ideas of someone
else and made the most amazing adverts out of it. It literally went from

I also had a few
ideas for advertisements. I’ve been wanting to write a spoof Scribby essay on
“things you never knew about our great wizards” but never came up with quite
enough material. However, some of these things could be used for advertisements.
For example:

Not sure where your loyalties lie?

undies an indecisive shade of grey

So it should be apparent that even if all you can do is come up with ideas, we
can use them 🙂

Looking ahead to the next issue, I am going to try something a bit different and
give you all a sneak peek as to what’s in the works. We are looking to do
a special Wizard Olympics edition (Wizolympics for short) which means there will
be quite a few themed articles. We will, however, have more … normal articles
(for a lack of a better term: this is the Quibbler we are talking about…) fo
those who are, like myself, allergic to sports.

Memo to me: Next time we do a themed paper, lets try and choose a topic that
does not involve physical exertion. Thinking about it makes me tired.

We will also be rolling out a new feature or two to keep things fresh and
interesting, but more on that in a later blog.

On the topic of new features, I would love to hear what you all thought of the
classified ads section of the paper… 🙂
