You Get What You Give, Right?

I’m a full-on believer in karma. Karmic retribution and redemption…I believe that you truly get what you give. Put positive energy into the universe, expect positive results. Produce garbage, expect garbage. I don’t look at it as a religious or a spiritual decision to believe in karma…I’ve witnessed its awesome power in my own life and the lives around me. Be the result positive or negative, I believe the basic principles of karma apply to anyone: you get what you give.

So, what does karma have to do with Harry Potter? Or with LeakyCon? Hahahaha, I’m getting there…this is how my brain works. Can you think of any parts in the Harry Potter books where karma played a role? Personally, I can think of several. The first? Kreacher. Harry and Ron were not nice to Kreacher, and they nearly starved. They could have learned about the locket Horcrux MONTHS before they did if they had open communication with the house-elf, and didn’t let their own prejudices get in between them. Another example? Umbridge. She was evil and just incredibly wrong about a plethora of things, and for her effort, Jo said she ended up in Azkaban. A fitting fate for her crimes? Yes, I would say so. Karma…it’s like justice, but with deeper implications.

How does karma relate to LeakyCon? Well, we are throwing a conference to benefit 2 different charities: The HP Alliance and Book Aid International. Two organizations who are beating the pavement everyday trying to make people’s live better. Attending a Harry Potter conference is an absolute RIOT, anyway. If you haven’t thought of attending one, you are doing yourself a disservice. (that topic, however, I will tackle in a different blog). If you are considering attending a conference, why not support one that is throwing its galleons to some incredibly worthy causes? And, who knows? Perhaps a little good karma could come your way. I know that, as I look at the team I work with, karma has blessed me with an amazing team, an amazing opportunity, and some amazing friends. What more could I ask of karma in my life? Oh, right…a sell out response from our community. I thnk that’s coming soon!
